BeatMaker... what a masterful track you've produced. Who says HipHop can't be soulful. This track proves it certainly can be-- Smooth but so so groovy. HipHop isn't usually something I listen to unless it's intelligently done; and, for me this fits the bill. Well done!
Hiya, my friend in music. The composition is wonderful. You seem to have caught everything that needs improvement, so no sense in going over any of that. I will say that I love the "texture" of your voice. To my ear this is an obvious nod to Steely Dan, as someone else pointed out. I hear it in the music composition, and the way you deliver your vocals. I'm digging it!
Thanks Mykael! We know each other's taste and that makes a comment like that extra wonderful.
I'm not sure I could actually do it, but I'd love to try to write something for you to record. Drop me a DM if you would consider that (and no worries if you have your own sources).
BaoBou, it isn't a race...steady as she goes, and you WILL get there. I am confident about that. The more music you churn out, the better it all gets...that is what the folks from my Distributor tells us. From my experience, it's true.
Very nice melody. I'm wondering what it would sound like without the vocal layering. I like the character of your voice, there is a faint hint of Bowie in it. You might want to try this to get a better vocal: Divide your song up into parts, maybe one or two lines, breaking it up where it seems natural. Then record each part individually (each multiple times--one or two). When you are done, cut and paste together the best of each part. Sometimes, depending on the vocalist and how well they sing, it's just easier to concentrate of bits rather than an entire song. I hope this helps!
Thanks a lot Mykael! You know I love your vocals, so I'm going to give that a try.
I record now section by section, although I try to make the sections long enough to be coherent but also short enough that I can easily sing them without mistakes.
In any case I need to get rid of the layering and trust my voice more... But I also wouldn't mind to understand the production side of that a bit better ;) I'm taking lessons but I'm such a slow learner...
It's a tragedy that track is so short!!!! C'mon, man, give us more. It's sounds like a chorus to a great track. Top-notch production. The groove is soulful and gets ya wanting to sway. Seriously, get this made into a proper song! Well done.
WOW. If you are gonna start off acapella, you have to bring the chops, and you've brought the chops!!! What an awesome way to start a track. Great beat, wonderful lyrics, and top notch production. The vocal reminds me of Adele. The revisit of the acapella is brilliant. Well done!
Wonderful little track, it reminds me very much of Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop The Feeling." We need more good feel songs like this. The production quality is in the pocket. Awesome vocals. Great job all around.
FANTASTIC!!! Beautiful song, beautiful vocals, the chorus is extremely catchy (the mark of a good song), and the production level is top-notch. Sincerely, I'd purchase a download in a nanosecond. Well done!
WOW! This track is Sigala GOOD!!! I'm quite sure you are familiar with his work. A voice like Elle Eyre's (who he has has worked with a number of times) is exactly the kind of voice you need to send this track into the stratosphere! It's fresh, fun, uplifting, and totally danceable. You have nailed this one!
Awesome! Vocals pair nicely with the instrumentation. I think you have elevated the genre a bit! That ending is pure sweetness. And, now for a bit of a critique (If I may)... there are parts where you vocal races ahead of the music. If you were to re-record your vocal and get it in the pocket, you'd have a flawless song! Well done, Wayne.
It's interesting you mentioned the timing of the singing, good feedback.
I actually did that on purpose. I've listened to countless live performances on youtube and watched so many performers do the same thing. Whether it's done on purpose to break up the monotony of singing the song the same way every time or just the breaking up of everything coming in on the beat, it is commonly done. To sing a song and break up the phrasing so that it isn't always perfect and on time is perfectly acceptable. It just makes the ears work a little harder to hear something that is expected but isn't necessarily wrong either. It's just how I chose to sing it and I re sang it twice to get it right, he. Just my interpretation in the moment. But thanks for inquiring about that.
If you listen even closer, every thing is moving in the song, delays and phasers were put on everything but the drums and automated to some extent.
Thanks Mykael! Hope my explanation helped you see into why I did that.
Great throw-back to the 80's. My only wish would be that the vocal was more clear. Some words I could catch, some I couldn't, and I even played it three times as a challenge...LOL. The guitar solo...brilliant, very fun! This would fit so perfectly in a movie that is set in the 80's. I can see being played in a club scene with two main characters chatting over the loud music while standing at the bar. LOL. Well done, you!
thank you for your stop Mykael, it's not the original voice, by tapping the tempo and the tone on LM, there was only this voice, full of reverb and others, just for fun!
Michael
If the Talking Heads and B52's got together and had a love child, it would probably sound similar to this. Great feel good music. It's a perfect vehicle for the vocals. Well done!
This is, in my humble opinion, one of Theeeee best compositions ever uploaded to Looperman. I don't think I have ever heard of a jazz piece that was influenced by Halloween. You have captured the drama, and horror flawlessly. It has a subtle cerebral vibe which, again, in my opinion, lends itself to being enjoyable whether it's Halloween. The tension you set up with the piano at :55 is perfection. It's a definite fav!
Well, it may not be the British way, but you have definitely captured the spirit of Halloween in an early 80's horror motion picture kind of way. Good job!
This song would be blasting through the stratosphere if the brass was real!!! It's just that good! We are in desperate need of feel good songs, and this track delivers. You guys make a great team. One of my favorite bands is No Doubt. This track brings them to mind. Well done!
Hey, Ed!! I had to scroll through the comments, because I couldn't believe I let this one get past me; but, apparently I did because I saw no comments from me! LOL. Well, it goes without saying that you are one of handful of geniuses on this site. I was captured by the interplay between the guitar and sax--Brilliant! Without you mentioning it, no one would believe that your composition and the vocal were done independently of each other; it's a solidly cohesive work. Well done absolutely.
Hi Mykael...good to hear from you my friend and thank you very much for the listen & comments...I should really print out your comments and pin them on the fridge so I can tell the kids...see.HaHa...,uch appreciated...gotta head over to your page & see what you`ve been up to...Ed
I am faintly familiar with the genre, but I love the epic vibe of this track as well as the manipulated vocals. It's hopeful and it soars. Well done, you!
How I wish horns were back as strong as they were in the 70's. This track brought to mind Jerry Hey, who was huge in that era. I discovered him through groups like Rufus (Chaka Khan's former band). It also brought to mind Chuck Mangeone. I really enjoyed listening to this track, I love the lightness of it..something sorely needed these days. Well done, you!
What a beautiful track! The instrumentation has an incredibly lush vibe. Nice vocals as well. You really should turn this in to a proper song. I'd stream it!
Hello Austin! I have NO idea how this hasn't gotten any comments. It's a hidden jewel for sure. Beautiful vocals. I love the paired down instrumentation. The vocals and lyrics shine. I only wished you didn't layer the vocals at the end because your voice is so pure on this track that absolutely nothing is needed. Well done, you!
I'm not sure if you are as active here as you have been, but I'm praying you are. I actually sought you out because I have a project I'd love to collaborate with you on. It's an original song titled "Why Can't We Be Friends, and will feature five vocalist, including myself. I'd be honored if you could help me flesh out this song and make it proper. I'm thinking Pop-Country, which seems to be in your lane. I can't think of anyone better than you for this. The proceeds from the track will entirely go to an organization called "Feeding America." Anyways, I'll send you a PM here (hopefully you'll get it) with my email info.
