Very strange fusion here! I've downloaded the stems now, since you put them in archives. I don't know if I'll get to it or not, or if I'll be able to do something good... we'll see. I do like some of the sounds in here, and some of the others would benefit from using the midi to switch up for hardware. I'll see if the inspiration hits. Fun to hear!
I really wanted to put lots of stuff together, and with the different vsts I found, I got this outcome, and was satisfied with it. Super happy you downloaded the stems, and I'm hoping you'll be able to participate, man! I have no doubts you'll put something good together!
Very cool and interesting piece! I liked the minimalism of it, which kept the loudness of the mix at a good level, while still being able to hear the intricacies. Fun arrangement and sequencing as well! So, can you explain what I should look for which differentiates "future bass" from "trap" or "dubstep?" I've never really figured it out. I like the song a lot, I'd just like to learn more about what makes this genre what it is. Thanks for sharing the piece!
Thanks I'm glad you liked it. I'll see to keeping my future productions minimal to some extent and intricate. And I'll give you a quick rundown for each genre and give you an artist to look into so you can clearly listen to the difference.
Dubstep - Loud and dirty (Excision)
Trap - Minimal and more focus on bass (Troyboi)
Future Bass - Much more melodic and synth focused (San Holo (my fav artist rn))
The first drop for the song I made can be considered future bass (more focus on melody and synth) while the second drop is pretty much trap (more focus on bass). Hope this helps clear things up.
Man, what have you got scraping across my brain now?! This is cool and experimental, I dig it! The gated stuff you've got going on really drives this into modern times, but there is a lot more to it than that! Something touching deep into the past, something of importance. Pain on one side, and the pleasure of the cause of the pain... then there is the pleasure of watching it all go down, and the pain of fear. If death were the end, things would be so simple, but things continue... Well, I'll shut up now... Songs like this keep on making me think of Looperman as the domain of the most underground musicians in the world! I can't believe some of the things which have been made public around here, and I love it! Very very good song! Fave!
Wow man....your description of track is different from what I had in mind but music can sometimes really feed your brain and create thoughts which enhances the track itself. I am glad you feel the music. Listening to alternative music is one of the things I love on LM. You wont find a lot of underground music on soundcloud but here are so much talented producers just trying out stuff. Sometimes it fails but more often you hear unique sounds here as for instance your track!
I'm happy that I came across this today! It has the moderately aggressive and rebellious nature which I expect from reggae. Love the synth solo parts! If you need help with vocals, solo or duet, let me know, as this is the sort of thing I would love to get in on! Very pleasing to the ears so far! Total fave!
This sounds pretty cool so far! Pleasing vibes, and a good minimalism going on. That's a nice piano part, I just wish it was played on an acoustic piano... would sound extra nice then. While I think that my vocals would probably fill out a range which is wide open in this mix, I also think it would be hard to imagine a lyrical performance for a song like this. Who knows... Either way, it was fun to hear!
Thanks! :D I know what you mean!
1) I may make an acoustic edit soon (aren't I kind?)
2) I was thinking of maybe removing some of the vocal chops if any vocals were to go in it, that would make it sound better and easier to sing.
Thank you for the detailed reply to my comment! It helps me to know that I was not just trippin out, and that there were in fact some mp3 components to the mix. The guitar sounded top notch to me, so you should feel good about that right away regardless of any other aspects. I think that the vocals, and the cymbals and snare were the main areas where I noticed the mp3 aspect of thing... though my ears may be fooling me. I don't really know how my ears have help up this well over the years... had a whole bunch of head injuries, plus years of very loud concerts and stereo use, then the playing of instruments and mixing. The listening and commenting on looperman has definitely helped me tune my ears, since it's nearing 6000 songs now. I find I notice it much more when mp3 and uncompressed is mixed together, rather than, for example, a wav mix of all uncompressed sources being compressed to mp3 for playback. I do however occasionally use mp3 source for very short voice clips, when I have no other source available. I think I turn off a lot of collaboration, as I am very strict about uncompressed audio to work with. I know it sounds like ego to say that it isn't worth my time, but it is more like obsessive/compulsive feeling involving music which bears my name. Not good, not bad, just what I try to restrict myself to. And, this song is totally cool, no matter the sources! I love hearing some real instruments, and people who know how to use them. It was fun to hear it again! I'm going to fave this now!
This is a cool divergence from the songs I expect to hear when visiting your profile! Feels like something which may have shown up on "Sandanista," which is definitely my favorite Clash album. So I guess that means that it has a sound which I identify as one culture being interpreted through another person and the culture they were born into. I don't think that living things strictly choose where they are born, so it is not your fault if someone were to say that it does not sound authentic. Something which I would not do in this case! I love the bass and guitar performances very much, and the hand drum and other percussions add a lot to the enjoyment of this song. I'm assuming you have no idea what these words mean, but I would be happy if you give me some idea of what they mean to you. Was a very fun listen, from beginning to end! Fave!
Hey Pat thanks for stopping by mate!..I have absolutely no idea what the lyrics say, it's probably content any small community would talk about, sex, chickens or the weather! lol...I totally agree with your premise about cultural interpretation through the medium of personal experience, my grandmother used to have this old zither that I used to play with as a little kid, I couldn't play it in the traditional manner but somehow figured out to try hitting the strings with spoons, I'd spend hours hammering away making crazy sounds, don't know what ever happened to that old zither but I was thinking about it during the making of this track funnily enough...glad you enjoyed it mate!..cheers Dave :)
Very unusual piece you have created here! Gives me some feelings that I associate with cold-wave or industrial, which is cool! I've been experimenting with those sort of styles a lot as well. I like what you did with both vocal components! Sounds pretty cool so far!
Wow, very cool! You definitely have the hip hop flow in a far more serious way than I ever will! Groovy, a little bit ghetto (compliment), and full on. I like the sounds you chose to use, and the mix is potent. Very fun to hear, and I would love to hear it expanded. Sorry it took a couple of hours to come back to your profile. It's probably worth it though, as I feel much more calm now. Have a good day!
Thanks Mr. Spiv! Actually, this was expanded on. It's the song featuring YBigg. Probably my favorite attempt at hip hop that I've done.
If you want to hear what I was really "known" for prior to me finding Looperman, and you are a fan of bands like Black Sabbath and early era Judas Priest, or just good old fashioned real instruments, Cobwebs is my attempt to slowly test the metal waters here.
I have come across some of the remixes already, and have enjoyed them all so far. This personal remix is also quite cool! Super groovy and relaxing! It has some classic electronic vibes which bring me back about thirty years, yet it has a modern pop aesthetic which could bring it to the attention of a lot of people! I too have watched your skills improve, and I can only wish you the best in your efforts! Keep doing your original thing, and I know that you will prosper! Great work! Fave!
Was that a serious response? I ask because, I also deal with cunts on a regular basis. If you are being defensive regarding my discussion of the guitar recording, then I can not understand that. I complimented your skill, and that was sincere. I complimented the exercise in classical playing, and that was sincere. I asked about the recording, because I was sincere in wanting to know how this became hot. No insult was intended, but only mutual communication and learning. I apologize if I unintentionally hurt your feelings.
More of a deflated, I can't be bothered with this, response..
I can't tell if your comments are sincere when followed by "I don't usually expect auditory pain" kind of comments.. I interpreted an amount of bitchiness, imagine a high school queen commenting on some girl's nice hair only to disarm her for a coming insult or a boss coming at you with the dreaded "compliment sandwich" XD
I wouldn't say I'm becoming defensive, you are the only person who riles me up in such a way.
Clearly, meaning has been misunderstood.. Forgive me.
As to your question: I recorded a somewhat cheap twelve string (with only six strings :D) with a Behringer B2-pro via a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, in very unfavourable recording conditions. From the exception of reverb there was no mixing involved. Mic settings: High pass filter and -10db switched on and omni-direction switched off. It may be worth noting my mic stand is a tall lamp combined with parts of a TV mounting kit, a walking crutch and some duct tape.
This has a good feel to it. It seems that your playing and your mixing abilities are both improving consistently, and that makes me happy. I don't think I could do a pop song like this justice, and I would just take it to a "bad place," but I'm sure that you will find someone interested in working with it. Much artistic merit in this, and I'm sure that it was artistically satisfying to create. It is always a pleasure to visit your page and hear what you've been up to!
Thanks Spiv! I'm glad to hear my mixing and playing is improving! And it was extremely satisfying to hear it come to life. It just needs words now, we shall see what happens.
This is pretty well written and composed rock song! I'm enjoying it! I'm curious about this feature of wikiloops... does it allow for uncompressed audio file transfer? I can't help but think that some of the stems in this were using some sort of compression (ie mp3, ogg or whatever). I may be wrong though. I only ask, because it seems that there are a lot of missing frequencies in the tracks. It may be something totally unrelated though. I like all the performances in this though, and it's cool to hear some "real" music on the Loop. Thank you for sharing this! Great work!
Hey man, thanks for listening and commenting, sorry it took so long to answer...workworkwork
When I read your question, I have to say I was first WTF, how did you notice but then having listened to a few of your tracks in the past months it is clear to me that you have n exceptionally good ear! At wikiloops you can upload an MP3, but also your single Instrument track in HD quality. Generally people just upload an mp3, and others add to it, and slowly the quality goes down. When we do a band project we try to have at least good quality single tracks. As we are not really comercial, most of the time a single instrument in 320 MP3 is enough to get a reasonable song mix in the end. Now for this specific song, I recorded my guitar through a VOX multieffect straight into the analogue mic socket of my old computer, so I have a pretty dirty sound. The vocals were recorded on a Boss BR1200 with an AGK 310 microphone, but came to me as an MP3. The drum tracks were mostly HQ. But in addition to that, I do the mixing and I am not that experienced so it could be that I have overdone some filters. And I am an old biker with too many years of loud music and loud bikes, ears are fucked :). Anyway, you should pay wikiloops a visit, it's not a bad place for jamming. TG
I enjoyed your playing in this, and it definitely shows skill. I too love playing classical guitar, especially now that I have one again. I am wondering how you recorded this, as the guitar sounds very "hot." I don't usually expect auditory pain when hearing a classical guitar piece, so it made me wonder. All in all a cool exercise!
Enjoying this very much, and it helps me realize that you probably have some indication of what I mentioned in my reply to your comment on my song. This makes me happy! Your song also reminds me of my recent participation in a city council meeting... before the meeting, they had everyone stand and repeat the pledge of allegiance. My wife and I were the only ones in the room who did not recite it. It is thoroughly offensive to me to pledge allegiance to a god I do not believe in, and who has no place in politics... not to mention pledging allegiance to a government which does not hold the well being of it's citizens as dear. They do not deserve our allegiance any more. Thank you for sharing this inspiring song! I like it a lot! Fave and DL!
This is definitely something I would think of as trip hop! I love the psychedelic edge to the sound design, and there are many other flavors present which make it a pleasure to listen to! It has been good to see the spread of more sensible mixing and mastering techniques here on Looperman, and I think that this song is a great example of that. It is loud enough to hear everything, yet not so loud that I was forced to drop the volume in order to protect my ears. Very well balanced frequency spectrum. I enjoyed it thoroughly! Fave!
It's been like 25 years since I played Zelda on NES, so I'm having trouble recognizing the theme... however, I do like the chill vibes of this! Classic trance bass and drums, and some cool experimental synth lines. Can't find anything to complain about in this remix. Very fun to hear! Dig it!
This is pretty cool progression in your musical style! I'm liking the sound of it! I must ask, regarding the guitar parts... Do you use a DI of any sort? Mostly curious. I like how you blended the guitar in the mix, and it compliments the synthetic parts well. I like the late section where the harmonies and solo get more complex, has a cool feel to it. Very fun to hear! Fave!
thanks spiv! Regarding my setup - my guitar runs into a FX box\pedal (a BOSS ME25) and that output goes into my Roland Duo-Capture EX. That Roland is a wicked little unit, and has served me well over the few years i've had it.
This is, like has been mentioned, very relaxing - It fits well in the chill out genre! The unusual percussive elements really deepen the whole theme included here. Could be an excellent soundtrack to some closed eye visuals! The jazzy elements, while few and far between, really add a lot to the whole artistry of the piece. This is very well mixed to my ears, and I'm enjoying it a lot! By the way, it's cool to see another avatar picture with a smoke in hand! Excellent work on this song! Fave!
Yes the smoke Spiv has become a real no no it seems.
Picture of Tom Waits of course not me and even he has packed it in .... me too I must admit.
Closed eye visuals I haven't had for quite some time now but yeah I'm with you on that one.
Thanks for stopping by mate.
Yeah, this is damn cool! Gives me Public Enemy vibes for sure. While I don't respect the sell out nature of where Public Enemy's members have gone, I do still respect their original works. I liked the chip tune sounding elements in some sections! You did well incorporating dubstep vibes in a hip hop based song, especially considering that it did not turn into trap! Very fun song to hear! Fave!
Hey this is pretty sweet, and an intense ride! Since you ask about genre, although I have little experience with music in this specific mutation, it sounds most suited to psychedelic or possible fusion to my ears. It isn't that important of course. Your guitar work is impressive and refreshing to hear, in this time of virtual everything. It was jamming and fun! My cat had an upchuck accident while the song was playing, but I don't how that is relevant... ha ha. I liked hearing this very much! Fave!
LOl I almost had an accident myself reading about your cat, made my day :D :D :D . Thanks for your input, I guess psychedelic is probably right, I mean I grew up on late 60ies music, and I do like to incorporate weird sounding scales... Thanks man :)
Sounds like you've put together a very cool theme for continued enhancement of this song! I like the ideas that you have put forth in your description and lyrics. I am in this process locally, of joining together/ bringing people together, in order to change things for the better. It is great that people are beginning to stand up for how things should be. I like this, and you should keep working on it! Keep making music!
Thanks For Listening. Maybe We Could Collab Sometime On A Track Supporting This Concept. Hit Me Up At Phantomcash23@yahooDOTcom . This Track Actually Is Longer, But I Need Someone To Fill The First Verse. You Could Possibly Be That Person. Much Love
Hey this is pretty fresh stuff! I like the energetic bass line very much! The varied and intense collection of synth lines really flow together and add up to a potent listening experience! I would agree that there isn't much sub action going on, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Much of the instrumentation is more low-mid frequency. Possibly a more sub heavy kick could be used instead of, or in addition to your current kick in certain sections? If you did use both in certain areas, you could EQ or filter the new one to handle the very low frequencies primarily, while the other has some low cut going on. Just a thought. I really enjoyed this, and I could see it being expanded further to good results. Very fun to hear! Fave!
Very cool hard stuff here! I have to think that this is good "music to drink beer to," as I've got a glass in front of me, and that rhythm is doing it for me right now! I'm guessing that the lack of reactions you've gotten on this song have something to do with people's lack of attention span... after all, the song is longer than a usual pop song, and has breaks in the beat... people can't sit through anything which doesn't pump their hormones any more, so don't take it personally. You've got a real talent for hardstyle, something which is rare indeed any more. I like your songs much! This one is another fave!
Very pleasing song you've created here! I am not a house expert by any means, but from what I've heard, this is really good! Definitely the sort of song I like when I need something to inspire energetic action. I like that in a song. Some very classic sort of sounds you incorporated in the mix, so it's familiar yet fresh. Dig it. Since I try to read the previous comments while listening to the song, I found some of them very entertaining, such as.... "This is excellent mud" and "Very professional finish to this Mud." They both sounded like people calling the song "mud" as opposed to a nick name or term of endearment to you... I don't know, I just thought it was funny. Very cool song! Fave!
Hahaha...I know what you mean. The name Mudhoen is a frisian name of a fish and actually has something to do with mud. I chose it as a joke but now been using this name for 2 years already :p. But I am glade you liek the track. I tried to make a classic sound with some nowadays techniques. thanks for the comment and fav!
