I feel like my words can't express the feelings which this song induced, so I won't say much... it's mercury retrograde any way! I thought the song was excellent and pleasing to the ears! Just noticed there were lyrics posted... reading them gives me thoughts of The Cure, which is pretty much my all time favorite band. I like the strange sound design, and it's good to not hear the same sound which are in almost every song released out there. I thought it was really good! Fave!

I am trying to wrap my head around how this idea of future bass is set apart from other genres. Since you seem to think yours did not turn out to be that genre, then I haven't learned much more. I suppose that this simply sounds like a hip hop instrumental to me, but what do I know. I could see this being extra good if there were more variation throughout, but I feel that about nearly any style of song, so don't mind me. I think the mix is pretty good though, so keep at it!

Fun to hear this differently styled take on the original! This reminded me quite a bit of eighties synth/electro stuff, what with the standard sounding bass lines, although I am far from an expert on deep house. I though it was pretty cool considering the minimal nature of the mix. Cool stuff!

on Im on my grind by wordybum
From the beginning, the beat is classic in style. I realize that it is not your work, but it sounds good. Then we move on to your performance, which is equally classic! If I still was doing loop radio shows, I'd be all over this in the set list. I feel a bit of christian undertone here, which I can fully forgive since there is also a heaping teaspoon of artistry added to the recipe. All in all, this has been a great listening experience, so much so that I played it twice. Great work!

on Wishing by Jeffiedillard
It was so good to see a featured song from you today, and this is a good way to relax for me. Something I really need. The electric piano is well created, and this is no small feat, considering my possibly incorrect assumption that it is virtual. Electric piano is a dedicated hard instrument which I have always wanted to have. If I go for a hardware version, it is either a console or combo organ which can mimic this, or a classic Casio synthesizer (which are quickly failing me, sadly). Either way, it sounded great, just like your vocals did. I enjoyed this thoroughly! Fave!

I must give you an initial congratulations for actually inducing me to turn UP the speakers, instead of turning it down before the fifteen second mark! That is something to be proud of in this desensitized culture! I'm really digging the flow of this track, and I haven't heard a DnB track such as this for a while. It actually reminds me of some of the things which I just dug off my old flash drives to hear while setting up "studio B" today. That can't be bad! It sounds just hard enough, and well underground to my ears. For some reason this brought me back to the Matt Johnson/The The line - "While the ##### of this world are standing with mouths wide open, while we turn the coins we throw at them into worthless little tokens." Possibly it is the state of the city I am in today, or maybe you have touched a deeper internal frequency with this song. Either way, you should be proud. It rocks! Fave!

This is a very unique and unusual take on the original! I fins myself drawn to the drum groove which you've incorporated in the first half. All in all, I like the sound of the mix as well. I enjoyed listening this one!

on Victorian Waltz by DanGoldstein
As someone who, long ago, fell in love with someone from further south, I can identify with the feeling of this composition. I do not, however, generally identify with victorian sort of classical. I like what you've done with the composition on this one. I'm not sure if it is the victorian style or something else, but I found myself wishing for more variation in the velocity of the instruments. It seems that I am alone in this, as the recent MIDI stems I have downloaded are all static in their velocity. It is probably something I must adapt to, along with a list of other things. I think your composition is improving greatly, as well as your mixing abilities! I enjoyed listening! I had no idea that there was some sort of competition going on... I'm assuming because of my absence from social media. If there is time left, then let me know, and I will try to get involved. Good track!
DanGoldstein
DanGoldstein replied 21st Aug 2016 - 9 years ago
No - I think variation in velocity is pretty important if we are going for something expressive. There is lots of variation in velocity but I suppose primarily to achieve sustained, even lines. There is not much dynamic variation I admit. Still a chance on that as I have one more session on this in the morning before I call it quits. Glad you had a chance to listen to it, Pat and yea - contest is on and I will suggest something to you. I know the site does not cooperate too well with your Linux for some reason. Dan

on Idle Mind by wordybum
I've always admired those who can lay down raps like this. You've done it well. I guess it's something to aspire to, even though I'm old now. This goes well with my hand made clove pipe smoke and Russian ale. My first time making soy milk from scratch and drying okara in the oven has made me feel hardcore, or I should say even more... so this sort of track is just what I needed to hear. I pressed play again, hoping I could focus on the lyrics better this time, but I see that you have allowed downloads, so I will be doing that! I did not used to believe in demons, however with the state of society now, I can't help but believe that demons are what control our system. I have even been toying with the ideas that the are demons which have been purged from an alien society who saw an opportunity on earth. (Star Trek TNG anyone?) Either way, this is an exquisite expression, and you should be proud! Dig it! Fave!

wordybum replied 24th Aug 2016 - 9 years ago
dude, thanks so much for listening to the track and appreciating the lyrics. this is one of my favorite tracks to-date. it's not your every day run of the mill hip hop track and the attack was meant to be happy/positive, almost as if the narrator is inviting these little demons to stick around for a bit.

after reading your thoughts and outlook on this subject i think i may write a song from that perspective, from the aliens acting as inner demons.

thanks for the inspiration.

Ha ha, I read "sneakers" as "speakers," and related it to turning it up as high as I could... So I did, and I must give you congratulations for a mix/master which can be turned up all the way and not hurt my ears! This is one thing which I look for in music of all kinds (except maybe folk music). This is one of the best DnB jammers I've heard in some time! Deep, dark, and energetic! Perfect sort of thing to hear when I'm taking a break from the painful process of recording neo-folk music. It's seriously amazing! Once this comment is posted I will fave, and then download! Thank you for sharing!

on Whats Love by KnightHeir
I really enjoyed the vocal work on this one! It also went well with the instrumental. I went and looked at your profile because of the previous comment by itiyati. As someone who has never used a smart phone in my life, and some one who has never had a driver's license, I couldn't help but think of it in a different way. The only aspect of your CARE acronym which applies strictly to mobile devices is "E" or "Ease of travel." If you are traveling without a mobile device or a vehicle, then it is no longer necessary. Then the really interesting part... without the "E," the acronym becomes "CAR!" It makes far more sense to me this way, as my feet are my means of travel, and the items under the other letters are all done at home, yet they still apply. All in all, I found it to be an interesting intellectual puzzle, and it satisfied me... just as this song did. Thank you for sharing your work and experience!

on March of The Orange AssHat by topvega
This a sweet one for sure! You must have worked with quite a few real drummers to get this sort of vibe from AD! They sound extremely believable, which is something I don't hear often with those sorts of drum software! Your guitars are always jammin, and this one seems especially rockin! The asshat reference gives me thoughts to a piece of visual art I've been slowly forming, and I thank you for reminding me of the importance of finishing that before the feeling is gone... though I pray (something I don't do normally) for the feeling to be gone. Had to listen to this one again right away, and I see that it's up for download... so here I go. Fave!

I tend to use the better MIDI drum patterns over and over and try and work on the tone to add variations. Thanks though because I feel the same away about these. They sound pretty realistic. I hope you get that visual art done. After November we will no longer have an Orange AssHat to deal with. Appreciate the Fave, download, listen and comment.

Well, I came to your page hoping for a recent addition, but instead for something which is new to me! This is very excellent, especially when taken as the end of side A! I like compact disc releases which are obviously intended to be on a more appropriate media such as record or cassette. It leaves it up to the listener to imagine the intended experience, but there is value in that as well. I liked every bit of this song, as it was out of the ordinary yet pleasant to hear. The title seems very appropriate, and at the same time it makes me think of the name of a reverb preset (ha ha). Very trippy drums throughout. Thanks for sharing this one! Fave!

mrwolf14 replied 19th Aug 2016 - 9 years ago
Hi Spiv,
Thanks for your kind words... the title of the song is actually "strongly inspired" by the reverb preset name, good catch :-)
I have not been recording anything in the past months... simply too busy.
But I still enjoy listening to good music, this is why I still come back here at looperman.
Take care, Domenico

This is not a bad remix! Interesting choice of the stems to use. I guess for me this sort of hip hop/dancehall influenced trap is just not complete without a good vocalist. If it had one it could be pretty intense! Just had to stop by and hear the other remix which has been posted to the thread. Thanks for sharing this!

on Fourteen parsec by HumanPotatoHybrid
I was a bit skeptical at first, as the intro didn't remind me of most goa I've listened to (no expert of course). As the song progressed it really did give me those sort of feelings though. If I didn't have it in my head that it was going to be psy/goa, then I would have definitely thought of acid tech or house instead. Maybe it's just the mixing that makes me think that, and that's not important, as I mix my psy/goa stuff in pretty odd way. I like what you've done here, and the pace is really nice when the arrangement is set in motion. Good to find this one! Thanks for sharing!

on Max Volkoff - Laughter In The Dark by max13976
This is really a sweet track! Definitely my sort of trip hop, with an industrial and cinematic side note to it. Has a good drive to it, and some very interesting instruments chosen. Since the other commenter brought up the drums... I must wonder how they were taken from the film for use. Was the film ripped to audio somehow, and if so was it ripped from DVD to WAV? If it was ripped from online or a poor quality copy, or ripped to mp3, then this may be part of what the other commenter was hearing. Sometimes we do the best we can do, of course, but DVD directly to WAV is definitely a great way of getting the full power of a film soundtrack. I know well the hazards of trying to filter background sounds and the like from video rips, but I think overall you have done well, especially for this style of track. It's a very creative and enjoyable effort, and I applaud you for it! Keep doing your thing! Fave!

Hey, man! I’m a big fan of trip-hop genre, and I often try to reproduce that dark, dirty sound in my music, with varying success though. For this track, I recorded the audio directly from my sound card with Audacity. That’s the way I usually record the sounds I like, but I’m not really sure if it does any harm to the audio, since my sound card is not a high-end one. The initial audio was 48 kHz/24 bits, 5,000 or something kbps; I guess, that’s quite a decent quality. By background noise I mean the natural environmental sounds in the movie. In this particular case, there was this mechanical squeak you can hear in the background; my compressor would catch it and make it louder whatever the settings are. Besides, the drums had way too much low end, that constant low-frequency humming. It sounded cool in the movie, but was inappropriate for the track, so I filtered it out. I actually tried to reinforce the drums with some kick and snare samples, but in the end everything sounded just too clean. So I decided to live with it, mixed the other elements in, and waited for some feedback from my listeners. Anyway, I’m glad you liked the track, and I really appreciate your comment. New tracks are coming soon, so don’t miss. :)

Damn, this is quite trippy! I kept finding myself waiting for the lead everyone spoke of, and then there it was. I'm guessing some of the distortion was intentional, and some was from clipping in mastering or exporting to mp3. Didn't really take away from the song, but did lead me to turn it down a bit (got to protect those ears). I love the creative instrumentation you involved in this song, it's not like much I've ever heard! PJB's mention of aluminum foil in his context was interesting... has to be my least favorite method of ingesting substances. I don't even put it under my arms any more. The expansion of the glass industry has been a boon to use of substance. I can't say that I couldn't go for something crystaline these days, but I know what it has done to me in the past, and I am bankrupt, so life goes on. Deeply shattering song you've made here, and it has made me think of times gone by. That can't be bad, can it? Thank you for sharing this! Fave!

This is killer man! I would have instantly though jungle or hard DnB, so I think you nailed it with this one! The sound design was spectacular to my ears! It was also quite cool seeing you mention Fugazi! I used to listen to them so much in my punk days... now I don't even know how I would be treated if I went punk. I was always fond of "Repeater." You make me want to do another fast paced song, so I thank you for that. Cool all the way through! Fave!

This is fun and freak throughout! Those vinyl sounding vocal hits are extra cool! Very enjoyable dips and peaks of action, which make me think "dance floor." Energetic, without being aggressive! The drums sound good, though I'm not sure if I heard the old version or not. Definitely a nice track! Fave!

Oh yeah, I definitely remember this theme from way back! I spent WAY too many hours playing zelda on NES! This is super cool, groovy trance rendition of the idea! Very fun to hear! The atmospheres and FX give a really deep touch to this one. Classic game sounds used tastefully as well, which gives a nod to the past! You are one of the few looperman users of whom I have bookmarked their profiles for deeper attention, though I admit that I haven't been attentive. I have like thousands of bookmarks at this point, so it becomes a rare thing when I actually find something specific any more. Either way, I always enjoy hearing you sort of trance! Great work! Fave!

on trappin by SurvivalTactics
It's a good start to a song, for sure. Regarding your request for advice... It seems that not only is the same melody repeated, but the chord progression is the same throughout. If you know what key you are in, you can drop the chords for a while and experiment with different intervals for the piano melody. Or you could change up some of the chords for others which benefit the key and movement, and then play the melody to go with those new chords. Sometimes even simple changes can make a big impact on a melody as well... Going in and simply deleting certain notes can give an openness, and a slight shift in rhythm. Transposing certain notes can also make an impact, often without destroying the feel of the melody. I get a noticeable difference by, for example, selecting the lowest notes in the melody and transposing them up an octave or two, or selecting the highest notes of the melody and dropping them an octave or two. My best advice is to not let yourself be constrained by a chord structure, but to hear the nuances of the note intervals, and draw emotion from it. Sometimes changing one or two notes in a line can have a drastic effects on the listener! Finally, there is the very simple option of changing what sound is playing the melody at certain points. It will change the impression while keeping the theme. Hope those help a bit! I enjoyed the song so far!

Very strange fusion here! I've downloaded the stems now, since you put them in archives. I don't know if I'll get to it or not, or if I'll be able to do something good... we'll see. I do like some of the sounds in here, and some of the others would benefit from using the midi to switch up for hardware. I'll see if the inspiration hits. Fun to hear!

Very cool and interesting piece! I liked the minimalism of it, which kept the loudness of the mix at a good level, while still being able to hear the intricacies. Fun arrangement and sequencing as well! So, can you explain what I should look for which differentiates "future bass" from "trap" or "dubstep?" I've never really figured it out. I like the song a lot, I'd just like to learn more about what makes this genre what it is. Thanks for sharing the piece!
sheensheep
sheensheep replied 7th Aug 2016 - 9 years ago
Thanks I'm glad you liked it. I'll see to keeping my future productions minimal to some extent and intricate. And I'll give you a quick rundown for each genre and give you an artist to look into so you can clearly listen to the difference.

Dubstep - Loud and dirty (Excision)
Trap - Minimal and more focus on bass (Troyboi)
Future Bass - Much more melodic and synth focused (San Holo (my fav artist rn))

The first drop for the song I made can be considered future bass (more focus on melody and synth) while the second drop is pretty much trap (more focus on bass). Hope this helps clear things up.

Man, what have you got scraping across my brain now?! This is cool and experimental, I dig it! The gated stuff you've got going on really drives this into modern times, but there is a lot more to it than that! Something touching deep into the past, something of importance. Pain on one side, and the pleasure of the cause of the pain... then there is the pleasure of watching it all go down, and the pain of fear. If death were the end, things would be so simple, but things continue... Well, I'll shut up now... Songs like this keep on making me think of Looperman as the domain of the most underground musicians in the world! I can't believe some of the things which have been made public around here, and I love it! Very very good song! Fave!

Wow man....your description of track is different from what I had in mind but music can sometimes really feed your brain and create thoughts which enhances the track itself. I am glad you feel the music. Listening to alternative music is one of the things I love on LM. You wont find a lot of underground music on soundcloud but here are so much talented producers just trying out stuff. Sometimes it fails but more often you hear unique sounds here as for instance your track!
