hi, this song has a lot of space which is very cool and calming to my ears. You can turn this one into a very powerful chillout track by adding a bit of the vocals to all of what you have already or maybe I'll wait until the proper vocals will appear. Anyway great and relaxing sounds! It's completely different from your other productions. I enjoyed it. Alex
Hi Alex!
I really hope I didn't ruin the spacy feeling for you now, with the vox...I think I might have. Well, still have the original in my DAW so I could always take it to an other more calm direction later on.
Not really sure what I'm aiming for with this song! It's sounding more and more corny!!
I'm planning on working some more on it and see where it lands.
Thanks for listening!
/ SJ =)
hi Scott, this is a very cool funky compilation. Some loops like the clavinet-one reminded me of some older music. Nice guitar soloing. It is definitely the synth at 1:36 which is reminding me of Herbie Hancock. I enjoyed different bass-lines, even the Moog-styled one from about 3:28. Nice old funk disco. Alex
hey, I really enjoyed your song. the arrangement has this warm and groovy old-styled vibe. I like the 80's-styled reverb on drums.
Your vocals are super nice here - you might try to mix them even better here (add some processing, warmth, presence and this overall old touch). Still it feels unfinished but it is a really great song. Alex
hi Twanna, I love this one. it is so loud mixed and probably there are many things to fix in the production but the funk disco vibes like this really relax me. very stylish 80's style bass groove and vocals. I really enjoyed this song. Alex
hi, I love that particular soothing tone on the keys. Your playing is really smooth and soft - excellent funky guitars! This is some beautifully arranged and performed composition - probably one of the best tracks from all what I've heard last time on this site.
Very relaxing and calming vibes, impressive keyboard and guitar playing. Alex
hi,
this is really good music. my only sugesstion would be why do not find the proper balance between the arrangement and the vocal part? Some 'harmonic consonance' and 'proper chords' so to speak. I hope it makes sense. I mean there's really excellent vocals in here but all the rest seems to stand out or just maybe there's too much elements in here, I do not know. Myself I will put the main focus on vocals and the overall message instead developing the other elements. Let us say a very 'minimal' approach - but it is still only my personal preference.
I enjoyed your track, Alex
you will not believe how i record the vocal :D
my cousin Sara (The Vocal) in a different town now so i sent the music and she recorded her Vocal by mobile phone and whatsapp it so i had to lower the vocal volume to hide many mistakes
i needed to have the vocal just as a rehearsal how it will be. so next month i'm going to re record the vocal (not by mobile phone) :D
hey Anders, this is really a powerful track. I love the energy of the mix and the simple fact that I can turn this very very extremely loud. I much enjoyed it! Alex
excellent production. The vocals makes almost the entire song but your arrangement is remarkable - smooth, groovy and so nicely performed. Great track! Congrats, Alex
Thank you for taking the time to stop by and post comments. Really appreciate it. Glad you like the production and you have a real insight into the way I intended it to be. Yes, I like the vocal to take centre stage and try very hard not to ever swamp it with anything that take away from a fine vocal performance.
"Smooth" and "groovy" are compliments indeed. Thank you.
nice vocals and music so far. I sort of assume it is already finished anyway because I cant imagine the rest of the song.
Are you going to add some synth solo, or?
Nice work so far and looking forward for the continuation. Alex
This is actually the only part ive done. The actual song is done, just not the lyrics or recording. I plan to add a few different things when its all said and done though. Be sure to look out for it :)

agreed with Xachan comment.
keep up the production! good luck with collab on this and any future projects. it's a kind of an ultimate track anyway!
Best to you, Alex
hi again, the other day I had a chance to hear this improvised track from slapjohnson with his guitar and sax made in 10min! I love his works. I am just curious what would you actually consider as a 'fusion' genre. For me it's definitely 70's jazz/rock/funk mixture like Mahavishnu Orchestra (my favourite band), Wheather Report, Al di Meola and like. But somehow I find that this term is used for a 'world' music in general when combining many musical styles.
Anyway I love improvised music and your track sounds great!
I will write you a message so we could keep in touch for the collaboration. Here's my newest fusion song: https://www.looperman.com/tracks/detail/161996 just to let you know how I work - it's quite jazzy. Best to you, Alex
hi again, this is some excellent work. Reminds me somehow of Astral Projection (Ambient Galaxy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvhYvcv46MA ). I was listening a lot to music like this 5-6 years ago. Maybe the overall programming work you did here on synths sounds a bit similar, I do not know. Anyway your track is much more chilled and really funky, with lots of complex textures. I like a kind of a steady drum groove and slow tempo.
I can't make some longer comments and listen in details now but this song is definitely worth listening again.
I listened 2 times to the entire song. Love it! Alex
Hi. I do like this one but I’m still not completely happy with it. But it’s quite different for me as it’s only synths, the structure is unusual (3 or 4 drum-free breakdowns) and it's really quite a short track for me. And I really like the didg and pad sounds. Oh, and the arppegiated leads.
I checked out your Astral Projection link and thought it was OK. I’m familiar with lots of music like that but find it a little boring. Hard to explain but it’s maybe too much psychedelic drug music and lacks musicality for me.
“I like a kind of a steady drum groove and slow tempo”
Me too. That’s the kind of thing I’m best at playing along to. I never seem to start fast tracks. There are fast sections in my tracks but they always comes from making the drums go double time. I can play along to fast stuff but I’m much happier at a good slow or mid tempo groove.
“lots of complex textures”
I never come up with those as planned things. They just come from experimenting many, many times with different layering of sounds. I try to get things to fit together in interesting ways that I haven’t really heard anyone else do.
hi, I agree: the 'eclectic' label fits perfect here. It is a bit strange combination of sounds indeed but I really like it. You are simply able to achieve some original and unique atmosphere sometimes just blending together apparently far-distant sounds.
Nice polyrhythmic piano loops make this beat really interesting. Good work. Alex
hi again, it's just to let you know I enjoyed this track.
very inspiring fusion stuff. there's some things I do not like (fanfare, out of tune bass guitar and more) but overall 'feeling' is great. usually I do not paste the links to my recordings but you might check out my fusion song anyway: https://www.looperman.com/tracks/detail/160477 it is 'driven by a keyboard player' kind of track. Your guitar playing is really interesting - I will check out if there's some bass guitar sounds available from the thousands of your loops uploaded.
All the best to you, Alex
sounds nice. I would preffer some more straight played chord progression on keyboards to all the atmospheres added here. I really like the slapjohnson's playing - it sets the composition more in a specific tonality. there's some unnecessary (to me of course) 'harmonic ambivalence' at parts over these fine bass grooves you've played. the track seems a bit 'over-fused' even, if that makes sense. from about 4:38 mark it sounds much simple to me and that's my favourite part (with acoustic guitar). I can hear double bass loop and bass overtones at 0:22 - nice jazz feel.
nice work, this type of mixing is not my favourite though.
I enjoyed your track, thanks for allowing downloads, Alex
Hey Alex..thank you for the great candid review! much appreciated...I think sometimes a fork in the road appears during the conception stages of a track and looking back one can sometimes think, hell I should have consulted a map first! lol ...I hear what your saying and mostly agree, but this track was always going to be a little provocative tonally, and yes we (I) probably over cooked it,next time I'll be setting the oven at 160 degrees for a slow even baking.haha ;).....again thank you for the honest appraisal,it means a lot mate!...cheers Dave :)
really interesting dark-ambient kind of thing. Overall the song sounds quite strange and unusual, especially panned drums - very unlike of anything I could hear in the mainstream. nice work. Alex
overall I enjoyed this tune and a kind of old-styled vibes in here. that applause in the background was too much for me though... very cool guitar playing. Alex
niice, basslines are definitely sweet, my favourite one starts from about 3:38. still I see your work more as an experimental compilation of loops than a fully realised 10 min long track. I am curious about your inspirations on the electro retro-styled tracks/sets like this - I really like older music.
I enjoyed this one. Alex
Thanks Alex. I used to make everything from scratch but I was pretty limited in what I could do so I started using loops to add some flavours that I can't make with FL. It's hard to say who my influences are as I like so much different music. It's just a case of finding something I like the sound of and then "trying" to paint around it.
I'm glad you could drop in and leave your thoughts.
FR
your vocals are great here. Maybe I might help you with this project, I have far too much music going on at the moment though... Anyway I agree with comments below and think you should just stay with the acoustic sound-image - so even more piano, some drums and strings or soft pads that in my opinion will 'amp up' this song. Again the vocals are super nice as is your piano playing.
I will send you a message. Alex
hi, this is probably the first time when I have a chance to hear the 'jazz' kind of piece from you, at least about 0:45 - 1:52 when there's typical 'jazz piano trio' drumming - it returns again many times throughout the track.
I love the intro - it's a bit ambient-like.
I heard some song on the radio this morning when driving my car https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xnn7dNPDZlw
and I thought that (southern?) beat reminds your playing from 9:42.
Some nice jazzy keys at 10:04 - I like them. They appear just for a moment but it's very cool.
Again some piano from 4:45. From 6:19 really fine jazz guitar playing with a bit of a piano.
Probably I will need to listen to your track once more to find more jazz elements.
I enjoyed it - it's quite different from your other songs. Alex
Yes, I don't do so much jazz, as you know. I'd like to do more. I started out as a bass player in in my teenage years and also played for a couple of years in a jazz quartet, mostly playing walking basslines.
Playing jazz for me is all about playing along with jazz grooves. If it's a jazz groove I like, I can play some decent jazz. Otherwise, my playing is more along the lines of blues, funk, rock or metal.
This track's entire foundation was that cool intro that is just leftover recycled slide guitar playing that I turned into a bassline. It's interesting how much it plays in the track (most of it). I used to enjoy just listening to that intro over and over again. Very ambient, indeed.
It turned into a jazz track when I found some suitable jazz MIDI files in the EZ Drummer Jazz expansion pack. I, of course as always, modified them a lot to get what I wanted. Yes, like a 'jazz piano trio' 0:45 - 1:52.
I listened to your Polish (?) blues track and quite liked it. I can definitely see the connection to my playing towards the end of the track. Some pretty standard blues slide playing from me there. But, in this track, I think it's quite a cool surprise.
9:41 I could have turned the ending here into a new track as I love this end section. Or made it much longer. Lots of beauty and cool grooves. There are even two basslines, starting at 10:15.
There's jazzy keys and piano quite a lot in this track but usually quite subtle. 5:04 I really like. 4:55 check that heavily delayed keyboard part.
6:41 is my favourite piano part. You can dance to that. Makes me think of old Cab Calloway sort of jazz.
6:19 guitar I also like. Took lots of editing to get that right. Very tight, controlled stuff. That was important to make it funky. And I also had to not interfere with the groove and the piano behind it.
"it's quite different from your other songs"
Yes but I think there are lots of typical elements from my style to recognise. All the jazz playing makes it different for me. Other tracks have shorter jazz moments and much more blues, electronica, funk, metal etc.
