hi, it's pretty funky. you might only consider developing some melodic themes... or taking off the excessive and crazy panning... or just running the drums next time and building the entire song around it which is always a good start.
I don't think 'why' is a correct question at all.
hope you don't mind this comment haha.
I liked the track. alex
hi Steve, just to let you know I am enjoying this again. much beauty and very cool old-styled synth vibes here. I wish I had more time now but I think I should come up with remix soon cause this is just an amazing track. Alex
hi, I like the special colour you achieved here and some old-styled manner in your voice. This is very nice. Is it inspired by some specific songs or style?
Anyway I really enjoyed your song - I had that impression something was missing on this competition track and you filled it up very well.
Very nice work, Alex
I am happy that you enjoyed the listen and found it nice.
No, this isnt inspired by someone special. In fakt it is realy made just for (or maybe by) this minimal master of SMB´s track that i made. I had the words already in my mind when i done the last version of the mastering comp.
Cool to hear that you believe that this filled the comp track very well.
So thanks for your friendly words and the time you spent.
hi, again nice song... have you made any significant changes on this track over last months? For me it just sounds quite the same. No need to change anything in there of course...
Could you elaborate on who is doing the piano by the way? I like when meter changes at 3:36. I guess Planetjazzbass have over 900 but your score is very impressive. Congratulations, Alex
I have made some changes over the course of time, and this is the same one i put up before, which is why it sounds the same. And the piano is a loop from Chanho17. Thanks for stopping by :)
hey, I love the speed of this track - the bassline is kind of funky. dreamy vocals! very nice syhth pad(?)echoing the vocals at 2:48... but the entire song sounds to me like filtered or something like that - simply so different from the sound-image I get on my tracks!
I enjoyed your production. Alex
Thanks Alex. The vocals are a friend of a friend. I don't know if you've heard of Sheep On Drugs? I'm good friends with Lee, the bloke that writes most of the songs and plays and produces the music. She turned up with him one day just before I'd finished doing the D&B tracks of mine. I was listening to the latest mixes of them and she said, "I like this, who is it?" When I said "Me" she offered to sing on them. So she ended up singing on "Love n Hate" and this one. Then she disappeared! Otherwise we'd have probably done more together as I love her voice and she was so easy to work with. Both tracks were finished with just 3 takes each! Lee lost touch with her as well, sadly, so that was that. The only effect on the voice is reverb. A touch of echo here and there too.
hi, this is some enjoyable music. Are you using real retro instruments or just loops? Anyway it sounds very fine and yes - from 0:52 it gets really funky for me. Nice work. Alex
hi, I really like this one. There's again some long reverbs, phaser and other effects I recognize from your other productions but here it sounds just ok to me. For sure the track might need have better mixing if you want it sound good in the club but I can't comment on this cause I do not make this type of music. Anyway the song is very nicely put together but still you can experiment to find some more rational choices when managing all elements inside the song. You might consider to remove some of them even and have a shorter track but with more powerful structure - I know it is difficult when working with acappellas.
Nice effort. Alex
I was just checking your tracks list and noticed that you'r making songs in a furious speed! There is a new track every other day from you since you joined the loop. Talk about a super musical mind and devotion there!!
Amazing.
Yes, I'm hoping to have the patience to go back to this track and do some of the Changes adressed here and try to sort out the mixing issues. It could probably benefit from having it shortened also.
Thanks for listening and taking your time to comment!
/ SJ =)
Thanks Alex. This track was planned from the very beginning to have vocals. It was a task I set myself as all my other tracks are instrumental, or the vocals were just an afterthought. I wanted to see if I could write music for someone who wanted a song to sing on but never found anyone to do it, lol. TT
it is great to be able to experience the different moods of this music when I realize you made it just using those synths - I love the sound-image!
my favourite part is from 4:41 when voco soloing starts - it could last even longer...
Your track definitely reminds of the older electronic which I am really enjoying - unlike something I can hear in the mainstream nowadays. It was a good therapy. Thank you. Alex
thanks for your comprehensive reply. I am very impressed by the engineering work you did here and on the competition track.
I said this only because of the perspective of my personal temporary preferences regarding to music as a listener I have... thanks for explaining the details - it is much appreciated! Alex
I appreciate you getting back to me. I always try to keep in mind people's preferences when reading their comments, and I'm not usually offended by what people have to say... especially if I didn't compose the track. So, no worries. Between the first mix/master, and this new one to incorporate Mark's parts, a lot of hours went into this song on my end. Thanks for taking a listen!
interesting... but not really the way I like. Guitars and vocals really follow the overall feeling of this track which is a good thing... I enjoyed it!
I am not a fan of this song but from 3:15 it sounds very fine. I imagine myself jamming to this hahaha.
how about make it mono by the way? Or at least remove the reverbs?
very nice work,
Alex
Thank you for your comment! I see what you mean, but the vast majority of reverb and delay effects were present in the stems themselves, both from ShortBus and Mark. I used a subtle reverb in the master at 5% wet and about -13dB, which is actually less than usual for me since there was already a lot present in the wavs. I did tame the reverb in the main percussion/drum track with a gate, and that helped it pop more, but to go any farther than that would have ruined the whole feel of the percussion. I wanted Mark to be able to have control over the effect levels in his parts as well, so I just did my best with what he sent me. It definitely seems more pop than you would prefer, but that's just how it's supposed to be. Do you mean make the whole track mono? I prefer to make certain channels mono, and induce a wide stereo field. I always give a listen in mono before I decide that something like this is finished, and I found that it kept most of it's character, so that made me happy. I appreciate your feedback!
your tune instantly transports me to the higher realms. this flute has the american native meditation-music vibes. the slightly detuned synth lead from 3:13 is always reminding me of Tycho. I would compare your track to the spiritual 'Mantram' of Steve Roach.
I am suprised that your song is not so exposed on this site as it really deserves!
Love the chill vibes you've created on this one.
very enjoyable tune. interesting choice with the vocals. I like a lot that particular kind of chillout vibes. Congratulations to all musicians involved here - very nice work! Alex
hi EazyBeatz,
perfect intro, very gentle production... I was listening to the Pete's song the other day and I really appreciate what you did on this track. Very nice work with finding corresponding vibes! I really enjoyed it. It's a favourite of me! Alex
hey, this is a kind of a dreamy track, very soft and relaxing - I really like the vibes. NIce vocals and funky bassline, good choice with these long reverbs and laser sounds, interesting atmosphere. I enjoyed it. Alex
hi Renz, this is very fine remix - I am a fan of the original song but still it is not my favourite one from Spivkurl's album. I really like some old-stylish synthesizer you've added.
Inspiring! Maybe I will try this epic tune as well!
Alex
this pad from the beginning is super nice. The combination of mellow piano and trance vocals may seem bit strange at first but in the context of entire track it is really fine like this for me. Interesting atmosphere you've created here. Nice effort - really good chillout vibes! Alex
(PS. I updated my track - it's quite different now. You might check it out again if you like.)
hey, I listened many times again but couldn't write so fast as the track goes on of course and put accurately my thoughts into the en lish words. Anyway perfect intro - lower guitar and bass sampled from your playing and looped so nicely. Fine a little bit of a reggae-style drums used there (?) Lower (?) guitar combined with some synth at the end of the intro. After the intro and the first part starting from about 0:30 (3 x 4bars) comes my favourite section(!): excellent guitar playing (0:59 - 1:36 - 4x4 bars section this time). But still you manipulate so many elements of your musical language that I find it just great but really hard to comment at the same time! I agree with Phyruis comment on finding some some different (more realistic?) drums. I mean maybe getting some basic and natural (acoustic?) 'richness' instead of keeping them so 'compressed' throughout. But it is only my projection on what he actually said cause I preffer acoustic drums.
Still the beautiful background pad from about 4:00 is keeping my attention. Reminds me of 'Seascape' by Robert Rich: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3SOAHSwZ3g
Yes, my tracks contain so many elements that it’s difficult to mention even half of them in a review. But that’s OK – you don’t have to. There are probably at least 5 or 6 different things going on in most sections though I do, of course, sometimes strip things back and make them simpler and more powerful. Hey, I like layers! I’d actually like to incorporate many more layers though it’s always important not to crowd the mix too much.
I like to think I make music containing so many elements that you can listen again and again and find new small layers and parts and understand in new ways how all the layers interact with each other.
“a little bit of a reggae-style drums”
Yes, I think you mean the timbale sound. That’s just a single hit sampled from my old Boss drum machine. I would like to use more of that kind of sound but I need more than just a single sample to work with.
I can understand why you have chosen 0:59 - 1:36 as your favourite section. I’m not sure I have a favourite section in this track but then I’m not really supposed to have one. As the composer/player/producer, I feel I have to try to make every section as good as every other. That’s the aim but it’s always very hard to do. I guess some sections can’t be quite as good as others.
“finding some some different (more realistic?) drums”
Well, I use EZ and Superior kits in most of my tracks as well various drum loops. There are no drum loops in this track though there are some sampled single shot hits eg the pitchshifted hat in the intro. I’m not sure my drums are very compressed in this track. But then I don’t really understand compression and use it as little as possible. Maybe they are compressed, I’m not sure.
I do like acoustic drums but also many other types of electronic sound. I only care about things sounding right in the track so don’t mind mixing different types of acoustic kits with processed electronic drum sounds.
“the beautiful background pad from about 4:00 is keeping my attention”
Yes, I have two pads around that section playing the same thing. Lovely, evolving sounds. I know of Robert Rich, who mostly (I think) does big ambient music.
wow! pretty funky track. it is a kind of a song I really like - loops are combined very very nicely - but you've also added your vocals! Could you elaborate a bit on how you get them stretched from 2:02 to 2:53? I agree with crucethus comment of the vocals being a bit lost in the mix - but still it is only from the 80's dicso-funk perspective so don't worry!
Love the vocals and feeling on this track.
Alex
Heyyyy, sorry for the late response! To answer the question on the stretching, I didn't actually, I started a strings loop there and just faded my voice out ha. Thanks for listening I always appreciate it!
-Charlene
nice one Scott, I really like it! It has this fine funky cool vibes. NIce combination of loops. I sort of assume you're playing the drums in here.
Very enjoyable tune, Alex
It's me, my friend. I love the fact that I can create music or collaborate with friends, and add my drums to it. Since retiring, I don't do much live playing now a days, but still love to play, so this really offers a great outlet.
cool! it is more chillout and relaxing track than really fusion for me. very fine guitar lines - reminds me of widescreen 'High Plains Sunrise' by Tumbleweed. Very good synth lead in the second section also! Some very gently female voice elements added - I really like that.
Good chillout vibes and excellent production. Probably the best from what I've heard from you so far - I need to check out some more of you music!
Alex
Yeah, I could have used different tags on this one since this track isn't stylisticaly fixed. Comparing those guitar lines to something from Ed's repertoire I can only see as a big compliment. Also thanks for recognizing the value of production which is probably the only aspect I'm really satisfied with personaly...
Ofcourse you're most welcome to check some more of my music..:)
