Description : Here's a totally unscripted piece in the vein of Slap's 'create a track in ten minutes' thread....this one took about fifteen-sixteen minutes using Ableton..it's also worth noting this is a jam with an old school mate of mine Felix who's dropped in for a few days (he's playing the keys)..he's never done any computer recording before..I sat him down in front of the keyboard..plugged in and away we go...a few loops, effects, mastering presets all just a click away...I dig Ableton!

This fusion track was uploaded by Planetjazzbass. They retain full copyright and you are only entitled to listen and in some instances download. For further details on how you can use tracks see the terms and conditions and the tracks section of the help area.

hi again, the other day I had a chance to hear this improvised track from slapjohnson with his guitar and sax made in 10min! I love his works. I am just curious what would you actually consider as a 'fusion' genre. For me it's definitely 70's jazz/rock/funk mixture like Mahavishnu Orchestra (my favourite band), Wheather Report, Al di Meola and like. But somehow I find that this term is used for a 'world' music in general when combining many musical styles.
Anyway I love improvised music and your track sounds great!

I will write you a message so we could keep in touch for the collaboration. Here's my newest fusion song: https://www.looperman.com/tracks/detail/161996 just to let you know how I work - it's quite jazzy. Best to you, Alex

promenade2239 13th Nov 2014 19:27 - 11 years ago

hi, the tone of your guitar reminds me of jaco pastorius, even some licks sound familiar to me. just nice improvisation without any pre-defined structure or changes but definitely I'd say this is a 4/4 feel or whatever.
Anyway very nice abstract programmed synth sound texture and some cool free improv.
I will check out more of your tracks for sure. this one was really nice. Greetings, Alex

Very ethnic sounding!
I love the bass (i think it is bass).
Its like..a strange kind of high pitched bass, but i love it!
Real good feeling and vibes coming through this. Chills be out a bit will keeping me alert with the bass lol.

Thanks for the good listen!

First of all, I can't believe I already haven't listebned to a track called Felixville, lol, just because of the title alone.

Anyways, this is a pretty cool piece of music. Did you really do it in ten mins???

Yep mate....well actually 15-16 minutes...start to finish...Felix his brother Cam and I grew up together..we've had thousands of impromptu jams over the years, sadly Cam died a few years ago and Felix moved to Queensland about a thousand miles away!...land of the Cane Toads. lol cheers Dave

theHumps 8th Jan 2011 12:47 - 15 years ago

I was expecting an all digitally made track but your bass rings out and gives a nice live feel to this atmospheric gem. I am having a blast with Ableton myself mixing live with digital. It can breath life into us old guys who never had the opportunity to make music in such a way in days gone by and open up opportunities to create great electronic music is such a quick time.

You never seem to let the listener down, thanks Dave, nice track!

Planetjazzbass replied Unknown - 2028 years ago

Hey mate..thanks for the listen,I had an impromptu jam the other day at a friend's house, the only difference being these days is I don't take along a slab of beer any more!lol...oh by the way,I found a package for you that I'd forgotten to mail..I've just mailed it today..I can't remember what's in it! hehe...cheers Dave :)

DJSchmeeJ 29th Dec 2010 12:10 - 15 years ago

PJB...sounds like you threw this together in 10 minutes man...what? Oh...sorry! Great jam. lol! Not really sure what to think about this one, but the bass is superb. I love the jazz fusion sound on your bass parts. It always makes me think you are playing a fretless because of the "boing" factor. And I agree with JFW, very "Zappaish".

Planetjazzbass replied Unknown - 2028 years ago

Hehe...thanks man,I always like what you have to say...you've been around the musical block a few times and know the score...the weird thing about this track was the get together with Felix,he'd come down from the top end of Australia to stay with me and fulfil his younger brother's last wish (Cam..probably one of the biggest influence on me musically...a keyboard player and life long friend) of spreading his ashes at a local race track..we played this with Cam's remains sitting on top of my piano........anyway here's to the 'boing" factor! lol..cheers Dave :)

Yes, I remember this bass sound. Pastorius used this sound. You play really well.
Each time I click on a "PlanetJazzBass" button, I except something great. Always true....and I put my freind in the garden, to have a taste with the music.

After doing my cameo too many times as a lurker, I thought I should tell you just how much I like this piece. Sure you could map it out and orchestrate it fully, etc., but the Spirit is in this one. I love the bass in this!

Rockym778 24th Aug 2009 01:09 - 17 years ago

very good track, love the beat and over all effects, Great job on this one...

06BentonMcKenzie06 1st Aug 2009 17:13 - 17 years ago

This one is crossing lines here. I kind of feel like singing in spanish, but then i kind of feel like old school classic rock type feel. The percussion is steady and that large *Boom makes me feel like something exploded in my house. Okay, Okay, Nice video Game music.

Bioscape 31st Jul 2009 17:05 - 17 years ago

First of all cool synthetic lead pattern. Like the time-sig..the bass is nice..cool tone (nicely used reverb). I like the percussion as well and the verb on the bass drum.

Planetjazzbass replied Unknown - 2028 years ago

Thanks MrAD9..your very kind...I wasn't sure which way this one would end up..it's an interesting exercise to ad lib and get spontaneous...cheers planet :)

i like this!

(ps .. i know this is my double-review-on-a-double-post)
but i haaad to add!

Haha...we both know it's an inconsequential little pothole on a backroad leading to the musical highway...but thanks for listening man!..cheers Dave :)

jfw 30th Jul 2009 22:22 - 17 years ago

This reminds me of Frank Zappa's album "Jazz from Hell" on which he composed and played everything on a Sinclavier. Interesting and unusual bass work.

Planetjazzbass replied Unknown - 2028 years ago

Hey thanks man..I love all Frank's stuff,to be mentioned in the same sentence is an honour...cheers planet :)

Hi Dave,

Been wanting to get to hear some of your latest as I have a couple days off now.
Sounds like a fretless bass here. Something I have never owned. Has a nice sound. Kinda of gives a warm mellow feeling.
The piano parts fit in nicely from your friend. Very nice production overall.

I have Ableton live that came with my Pro Tools, but have never used it. I did open it up and experimented with it for about 1/2 hour and decided it was too much to learn all at once, as I was learning PT. at the time too.

Later then and have fun,
Randy

alividlife 28th Jul 2009 04:14 - 17 years ago

it's odd to me how you are always in there Dave!

You definitely speak in volumes!

Is this in the Key of Black and White???
lol

this is Jazz for a new generation in someways!

I did hear something going on-- IN whole notes over this in my head which would have opened up the feeling --- at least in my mind. Just my opinion

Despite my criticism, the break was ENOUGH for me to fall in love with the track.
all in ten minutes!

You like any Squarepusher? You would LOOOOOVE squarepusher Dave.
seriously. Check him out, if you haven't.

Faved, Downloaded, Recommended.
(seriously, what key is this in?-- I love it, it's like a digital chameleon???)

Planetjazzbass replied Unknown - 2028 years ago

Hey Abe..good question! lol..I'm sure in an expanded and scrutinized version a more repetitive key signature would emerge..I'm dabbling in Fsharp and A with a lot of flats thrown in...In these free form sessions I suppose I'm more concerned with timing..but I like to get the apparition of unexpected chords within the music by trying to play fifths in conjunction to what I'm hearing...in these sort of things I'm winging it..which I suppose in some ways is necessary if you want to fly..lol..ps...I'll definitely be checking out squarepusher..cheers mate :)

Description : I'm gonna file this under Drum and Bass due to the beats I used. Though it's probably not DnB in the strictest sense of the word, as it starts off with a Cinematic vibe till the beats kick in (apologies for that, as I don't have a vast knowledge of DnB!). Apart from the beats and a couple of other loops, all synth/bass parts are played by me using ThornCM, Poly Max and Z3ta+ vst's. Let me know what you think? All feedback is always appreciated. Thanks.
