Prech that mate. Twas at the peak of my demo track experimentation days. I'm kinda suprised that it hasn't gotten that much feedback. Glad ya dug it. Later on!
I like your reference to Bob Ross. You are the Bob Ross of music. Except I'm not convinced that anything you do is accidental. Maybe a tiny accident every now and then for inspiration, but your end result is always spot on.
This is another example of your extreme skills at composition and production. It also shows how all of your brain cells are firing at once :)
Oh, you'd be surprised mate. Best example I got now is how I broke away from my current pyramid style build-up/down w/fades style on my older track *Rip It. I had copied everything from the first 5 or 6 channels & had positioned them slightly down the timeline (so I wouldn't have to worry about it later). When I finally built the song up to where I had put 'em everything just seemed to fit together perfectly (and it was a pretty sweet fade-to-a-boom-backatcha way of building the song back up).
The Ross ref is something I've grown fond of due to my experience with 'Art-snobbery' in school. Everyone acting so overly serious with it sometimes (ie, never use this color with this other color). In a way, that kind of thinking leads to very stylized, even cold/mechanical works of art. And to me, that betrays the very essence of "Art" or should I say, creativity, ya know? IMO, making art should be relaxing & pleasing, a fun experience (kinda hard to do when we're being all rigid about it). In a way, 'Happy Accidents' has become my sort of mission statement (go forth and do, eventually it'll seem right). I just used it below to point out the same thing that Flynn did to Tron in 82- "There is no grand plan..." Its how I normally fly, ya know? Mmmkay, thanks for stopping by & later on!
Hey DV, I think I reviewed this one the last time I lived at the Loop. I still get the same emotions today as I listen to it. With all of the stuff we have to work with - virtual instruments, fx, automation, loops, etc. it is nice to hear a piece that was played on the instrument in front of you.
There is something about the intimacy one can achieve using one single instrument to make a track. This piece shows that. Thanks for sharing a special moment in time.
I can't recall Bar, it was so long ago. This was done in my relative infancy with music. Didn't know much about programing & looping. I also didn't know any musicians that were into the same styles as me. All I had was they keyboard & the one soundfont (it was also recored at around 5am too). In that moment I was out on my front porch sitting on an in-table using the arms of an Adirondack chair as my stand with old clunky Koss headphones to drown out the sound). Took me about maybe 2 hours of tinkering and around 3 takes to get it the way it sounds now. Glad ya dug it. Later on!
Nice toon mate, thanks for suggesting it. As for this one, yeah I had a whole mess of fun making it. I kinda had a feeling it would be going all the way back (years ago) when I first heard Elaine's original. Glad ya dug it mate. Lates!
This is my fav track for today!
I haven't seen you before ,I think,but,I like what I see!
Great work,interesting and captivating!
Altogether,I like it!
Yummy!
This track evokes so much imagery, I would be tempted to call it cinematic. This is only enhanced by the variation in mood you bring about withe changes in instrumentation you make. Vox doesn't hurt either :-)
Cinematic might be a fair categorization, because this was made for both a general audience (the class) and was a large homage to the film, Tron. Funny thing that, because I have the most fun doing tracks like these (maybe its in my blood). Glad ya dug it. Later on!
This is not your typical rap track. I like the backing track and the effected vocals are very unique. I see you say it isn't complete yet. Are you planning on doing anything with it soon?
Yeah, this was somethin I was playin with ages ago. I was kinda wantin others to play with it, but that hasn't really happened so I might go back n tweak/extend the vox I added (just so it can be more finished, ya know?). Glad ya dug it. Later on!
Talk about a great track for a game. This would be awesome for a fast paced game where you running through a large building killing zombies and other assorted nasties by the hundreds.
I heard that. Course the movie that inspired this was about a guy trapped in a computer world playing video games. The game you described kinda reminds me of the old NEO-GEO game, 8 Man (based on the Japanese comic/movie). Glad ya dug it. Later on!
This is really nice Donnie. If not a full orchestra, this one is really suited well for a nice string treatment, and tymponies, and maybe a big bass drum.
But then you could add a brass section as well.
Man, now I can hear an entire orchestra on this. I think Dave hit the nail on the head. It is rare when a single instrument can carry a piece, but you accomplished that and did it well.
Prech that mate. Ya know, this one is open for collab. So if you were wanting to take this & add those things ya mentioned above, you'd be more than welcome to. I also love how flex this is (stand alone or with other things). Glad ya dug it. Lates!
Hey DV, I think I have to concur with the others. First off, great mix and treatment of vocals and drums. Everything is setting nicely in the mix. It would be awesome to hear this one filled out a bit in the middle section of the song with horns, strings, maybe even a bit more percussion....
make it sound like a huge party :)
But it works really well the way it is too. I would say your first use of pellas off this site is a resounding success. Maybe it's time to play with a few more (just a suggestion, ha).
Great advice mate. This was more of an experiment than anything else. Was mostly wanting to get the gist of the 'flow'. Now that I've got that down the next one I do will incorporate a wider range of stuff. Glad ya dug it. Later on!
Hey Man! Almost didn't recognize you with your new username.
Wow this sure is a very cool production filled with power and energy! :) Haunting atmosphere and mysterious sounds designed to take us on an epic journey! Reminds me a bit of Infected Mushroom stuff.Keep up the good work man! Happy New Year! Added this to my faves as well!
Yeah, it was just a spur-of-the-moment kinda thing (expanding off of the old one). As for the track, cool comparison mate (woulda never thought it). It was a break from the main (bulk of what I was mixing back then). Glad ya like it. Later on!
Yeah, I think we're all in agreement there (this needs moar, haha, but srsly I will be here in a few days... as it needs something extra). Glad ya dug it. Later on!
Ambient, cinematic.......... This is a great sound and you have created some very pretty phrases. Like the errie sound of it. Funny, errie and pretty at the same time.
A very sweet listen
I may revisit this one after I get my life back in order
Sweet deal mate. Def give it a go if/when ya can (it'd be nice to hear someone do a mix of this). And I defo had fun when I was making this (like, how often do you get to jam out while lyin in bed). Glad ya dug it. Later on!
I like your treatment of the vocals! The drums are sweet! I'm not very partial to that sound font you used though, maybe it sounds a little too artificial. I think you should add horns and strings like you said, it would lift this song to a new level. Well done!
Yeah, I can see where yer comin from there in relistening. When I go to rework this I might punch them down some and add a mirrored layer of something softer to act as the main instead (or might just flip-flop between both of 'em). Glad ya dug it. Later on!
This is great. To expand on what Planet stated, if an instrument can stand by itself in a track, the music has got to be great. This piece stands very well by itself.
I may revisit this when I'm better situated and play with it a bit.
Cool deal John. It'd be really nice to see what someone could do with this (since there hasn't been any takers yet).
As for the track, since I don't mess with my instruments nearly as much as I do my DAWs the solo'd thing stands out a bit more coz I don't have anything else accompanying what I'm doing (not even a metronome, which is kind of apparent in this one). Glad ya dug it. Later on!
Reminds me of boards of canada or something - one of those ambient groups. Its jazzy and funky, technically really great. I like the use of the vocal, it kinda sounds like the music is parodying the seriousness of the message and the sincerity of the words. Nice work mate!
Yeah I hear ya. I guess that's was my way of commenting on how 'history repeats itself'... All you can do is kick back, smile, and accept it (no sense of trying to ice skate uphill, ya know). Cool comparison BTW (woulda never thought of that). Glad ya dug it. Later on!
