Description : For the Indaba remix competition, this is covered by the Creative Commons License agreement and while free isn't public domain. Original song by Peter Gabriel circa 1980 CE.

For my version I added a couple of percussion tracks and two live genggong overdubs. Tried to tease out the desperation in the mix by emphasizing certain sounds while minimalising others.

Comments and suggestions welcome. Enjoy!

Thanks Stina1. For me, Peter Gabriel really helped me in understanding that my love of World Music is shared by some great artists. It's good to know that we're not alone in the things we love. Thanks for reminding me to come listen to your music, too. There are so many artists and tracks here that it's easy to forget tracks we mean to check out. Cheers!

I have recently had a chance to listen to the original, great track for a remix, this is a brilliant take and has the nomad23 familiarity.
I read the stems provided weren't the best of quality but it seems you got around it, the quality is there on my end for sure. good job and good luck, i will be sure to check out the link for a bit of voting.

    cheers

    Hey nOmad23

Great take on this and so different from the version I did....a pity the comp is turning into a popularity thing but oh well!....I really like what you have done with the effects on the bass and everything....and I know what you mean about the original stems....maybe thats why I didnt as many of them

    well done

Yes it's pretty amusing watching our remixes sink lower and lower in the popularity ratings, but I'm still thinking if PG actually hears our tracks then it's worthwhile. It's been really cool hearing how many different interpretations have been done with this track, and that in itself is pretty exciting. Glad you enjoyed this remix - I certainly do yours (voted for it btw). Cheers.

    Play 2 now...

    The random:
The name makes me think of astronauts without spaceships, haha (don't ask me why). Like the monologue to star-trek being changed to read/say- "Boldy go... To the bus stop."

Actually fits the song perfectly given how off-the-wall it sounds. I absolute the bass, whistles, and higher toned singing bits. Might haveta see if I can't snag the loop package for this just for 'em (especially the bass). Lates!

Thanks mate. I think you'll be disappointed by the stems provided for this - I spent 1/4 of my time manipulating them in Audacity before being ready to actually use them (I think they were taken from vinyl). The bass here is rather tasty, and I used quite a few effects to achieve this. The free vst "BassPhaser" was the final tweaking that got this sound. If you don't have that one, it's certainly worth the search!

    I like this!
First time I have heard you work with vocals.
I am not a big fan of Peter Gabriel, but ... I am a whore for sound.

    Very Trippy!
Bass is weirding me out in a great way!!
Naturally Guitar modifications are my favorite.

    Your levels are soo low???
    is that intentional?

I don't feel too right commenting as I am just not too familiar with Peter Gabriel.

    You have undeniable style!
    :)

I wondered if the levels weren't just a little too low here, but that was actually deliberate. An idea I was drawing from was the idea of ideas echoing into the future. Whispered warnings...science fiction. The song's really about fascists and normalized violence, and I thought inverting this sonically might be more interesting than SHOUTING, you know? It was a good exercise, this remix - and if nothing else it's given me tools and insights that should translate well into my new works. Man, it's a true delight seeing you on this site again!!!!!

    Hey Sean

Matey very good remix, of a older track, not one of my fav performers or tracks, but really love what you have done here, almost a tribe sound to it, brilliant, this is second version of this cover I have heard here on the loop, must say that both are diff from each other, but I love both the versions that I have heard from you talented peep's here, if the original sounded more like this then I might have liked it, stunning work again from you my friend...fav'd...Peace and Respect...Estefano...

I was beyond impressed when this album came out in 1980, but honestly this was never my favorite track on the album. I really liked "Not One of Us" and "Through the Wire" much better. What I really liked about P. Gabriel in the early days was his use of ethnic instruments and sensibilities. I suspect he's one of my deeper influences, though unexamined. Glad my remix worked for you, mate! Cheers.

The intro was great, I loved the ambience that surrounded the drumloops. The vocals (I think they were vocals) before the proper vocals come in are great. The actual vocals fit in really well, and I love the whistles. Very nice song, gotta move on to the other remixes as well now.

Actually the first vocals heard are audio hallucinations created by a combo of reverse delay and the Supatrigga glitch vst. It was from those initial sounds that led me to bring the bamboo mouth bows into this to try to create the illusion of an impression of further vocals - in this case the angry muttering of a baboon troop. This was a blast to mix, and I'm now an advocate for the occasional remixing exercise as it's a really useful thing. Thanks for the review!

Yes this one was a combo of heavy hand and empty handed insurrection. It DOES sound n0madish while retaining the Peter Gabriel original vibe somehow. I find that headphone listening is really rewarding as the genggong baboon muttering really comes through. Glad you enjoy it too! Thanks for the kind words and review! Peace!

Thanks for the good wishes and vibes! This is actually one of my all time favorite Peter Gabriel tunes as well. I used both reversorator vst and supatrigga vst in send channels to get the glitchy dub thing right. Great stuff for freeware! Cheers.

Description : Here is my most recent song, and one which I considered keeping under wraps until my album was released. With the Halloween thread, I thought this may be a chance to raise up the "funny ha ha" or "funny strange" vibe, and tuck under the nervous laughter. It was not made for this holiday or the related thread, but simply to express something which I think about regularly. I'm sure you'll get the impression!

Any masking, distortion or cross modulation is entirely intentional. This is, after all, intentional electronic brain manipulation.

All three were made by the excellent MrRobot! I ended up using this track as an opportunity to try out the Parallel Killer Guitar that I finished putting together not long ago. These are amongst the first recordings of the guitar. So I guess this turned out like what I would call "hard dub" or maybe it's just dub-glitch... totally not dubstep...heh. I was going for a tape recorded feel on this one for the most part. Hope you enjoy it!

Description : Here is the long overdue "culmination" of a collaboration between Promenade2239 and myself. Not too long ago he uploaded an inspiring finished version based on this song idea, and it is located here... https://www.looperman.com/tracks/detail/171320

Included here is Promenade on synthesizers and samples, as well as quite a bit of rhythmic, vocal and arrangement manipulation. The vocals and guitars (classical and electric) were recorded by me, and I did some synthesis and the initial drum loops.

We spent a lot of time and effort developing the idea together. This became especially apparent when I gathered all of the stems I wished to incorporate into this version, and they totalled 85! All in all, it was an extremely valuable experience for me, and I learned so many things (even about myself).

Please leave your comments if you have any, and I will try to reply as I get caught up! Thank you for listening!
