Listen To Lifes Last Ember - An Interlude Ambient Song By ValveDriver At Looperman.com

25th Sep 2025 23:52 - 1 month ago
Description : EDIT: I adjusted the ending as per Paperkup's suggestion. I like it better. Maybe you will too.

The realization, and inevitable acceptance that the last ember of life is smouldering into obscurity. Then finally, and peacefully, exhaling the final breath of life.
This is a dark ambient track that will go between two of my other tracks. A good pair of headphones/earbuds are highly suggested for this one.

Opinions and criticisms are welcome. Enjoy, and take care. V.

Hi ValveDriver, I think it makes much more sense now and you have ended really nicely. I had to double check with myself, after your reply (nothing you said, I just have the tendency to presume I'm in trouble, prob from school. I got that lump in my throat - lol. But cool job! Thanks also for the mention. I don't know, I managed to pick up a midi guitar recently (I could have got it before - kicking myself), I'm loving it even with it's quirks. Maybe it's a solution for you as well?
ValveDriver
ValveDriver replied 5th Oct 2025 - 1 month ago
I know what you mean about feeling like you're in trouble. I've been out of school for 30 something years and I still get that lump when I get called to the office at work.
I'll look into midi guitars and see if it's a good fit for me. Thanks for the suggestions. Both for the guitar and the track.
Take care.

This is beautiful, thought provoking music. The intro with those dark textures is excellent but the star for me is the acoustic guitar play with it's slightly unusual melody. Real guitar? It's beautifully recorded and played if so. Amazing really. Cheers Chris

Chris, how are ya, man?

Here's the thing with me and guitars. I have a guitar, I can knock out some decent riffs and ideas, but my actual playing ability is.....not good. So, I come up with the ideas on a live guitar, but then replicate everything with VST's in my tracks. that way they actually sound like it does in my head...not in my amp. I know it's a little disappointing to hear that they aren't live in my tracks, but at least they originated on one. That's gotta count for something, right?
Anyhow, I'm glad you liked this one, and thank you for such kind words.
Take care.

This is a good listen, loving it. I like reverb a lot and here I hear the elevation of the guitar play, it moves from good play to something special. A "bit" longer duration and it could have been a piece in itself for a ambient album.
ValveDriver
ValveDriver replied 29th Sep 2025 - 1 month ago
Frenz, hello.
I'm gad you liked it. Funny thing is, originally, it was a "bit" longer. By, like, 8 minutes. This was going to be the intro to a much larger piece. But once I got to rollin' on it, it didn't quite fit the track anymore, so I decided to just make it it's own piece.
Thank you for listening and commenting. I appreciate it greatly.
Take care.

bro you are Darth Vader himself always dark and menacing lol but there is a beauty to this, a depth, i felt it, a catharic verse or two could sound ok, you are commander of your own style Aaron and always deliver for the community

Thanks, Paul. It always means a lot when you stop through, my friend.
I do enjoy the darker side of art and music. There's a particular beauty in the details that most people don't see because they turn away too fast. I love that shit. The details. The textures, the layers, the lines, cracks and crevices that make the bigger picture. That's where the true beauty is, man.

The fact that you could feel it in this one let's me know I'm doing something right.
Thanks again, Paul.
Take care.

Hi ValveDriver, just to my ears, around 1:35, where it hits and there is also a thud. I would have liked to hear it a split second later. But that's me being extremely critical. I hope the feedback helps
ValveDriver
ValveDriver replied 26th Sep 2025 - 1 month ago
Yup. I hear it now, too. That extra hold gives it a heightened element of tension. Good call. I went back in and changed it. Not only that, but I added a new element that I think helps put the period at the end of the sentence, so to speak.
Thank you for your suggestion, I wish more people would do that!
Let me know what you think of the new version.
Take care.

PaperKup 26th Sep 2025 19:26 - 1 month ago
Hi ValveDriver, I like it. Just only one element, the final "blow" to me at least needs a little more time. But I'm prob. on my own there lol. Nice job, it got me thinking.
ValveDriver
ValveDriver replied 26th Sep 2025 - 1 month ago
Hello PaperKup, First, thank you for listening and offering some feedback. But, I'm not entirely clear as to what you mean. Do you mean the final chord needs to be sustained longer, or do you mean the fadeout of the effects need to take longer before they go silent? or both? I'm totally open to suggestions on this. Ambient isn't my normal thing, so any input is good input.
Either way, thank you again for offering some critique. It's greatly appreciated.
Take care.

Hi Robin.
Thanks for taking a minute to listen and comment. I do appreciate it. Honestly, I look forward to the other two as well. Mainly because I haven't even started them yet. This was originally part of an intro to a big-ass metal track, but I liked it so much by itself, that I decided to just keep it as it's own piece.
Anyhow, thank you again, my friend.
Take care.

Thank you, Glenn. Ambient isn't something I normally do. I've tried in the past, but they always end up becoming some kind of Metal or Industrial type track instead. I always feel the need to keep adding.
Thank you again. I truly appreciate you taking the time to listen and comment.
Take care.

Description : Depression and sadness can sometimes serve as motivation for creativity as in the case of this track. A few months back I went through a period of loosing a few friends and co-workers. Attended a few funerals and as a result found myself reflecting on life. One night I had the urge to try to transfer my feelings into music and this is what came out. Some baratone guitar accompanied by synth and accapella.
Final EDIT: Further tweaking on levels and a slight change up in the timimg of the choir section.

Description : I intentionally made this song minimalistic. The drums I spliced together from some drum loops I had, there's one other loop in the mix, the rest of the instruments are played by me (bass and synths). I used the excellent (and free) Cakewalk z3ta+ vst and the BBC Symphony vst. My intention was to create a very simple and dream like ambient track. Feel free to download or comment. Feedback is always welcome. Thanks.

Description : Hello,
this is a track between composition and cover.
Amandine (Sova Berry or Dine on soundcloud) made a cover of the a cappella "Song of Sophia" by Dead Can Dance.
I liked it very much, so i decided to make an instrumental with her vocals.
Hope you'll like it and if you want to comment, you are welcome, whatever you think.
