RichardShekari
I am Richard Shekari, a multifaceted artist and humanitarian based in Abuja, Nigeria. Born on 11 April 1981 in Bauchi, my musical journey began in the early 1990s when I joined the church choir as a tenor. Those years shaped my sense of melody, harmony, and the spiritual depth of music.
In the late 1990s, a season of youthful rebellion led me away from the church and into secular rap. Through rap, I discovered and developed my writing skills, experimenting with rhythm, rhyme, and storytelling. I released two underground rap albums, though that chapter of my life was relatively short-lived.
Today, my style reflects the meeting of those two paths. The choir gave me melody and reverence, while rap sharpened my lyrical voice. Together they shaped my identity as a gospel songwriter who blends heartfelt worship with thoughtful storytelling. Beyond music, I also write books, using both sound and story to connect with people on a deeper level.
