Description : Working backwards here. Programmed this beat (Hip Hop 7 from the drum machine handbook) on the hardware sampler and then transferred it into a Drum Rack in Ableton. Boosted with Beat Slammer.

Description : Continuing my drum machine odyssey by trying to learn every famous pattern (impossible of course but anyway) so that I can program my drum machines with more variety and panache. This pattern is the basic boom bap programmed into my SP-606 sampler with the vinylizer and compressor turned up. The drum hits are all sampled from 80s hip hop records and processed on the SP.

Description : RD-9 for the kick itself and the clap. SP-606 for the hats, with a janky swing effect on them. The whole lot is recorded through an overdriven and compressed pair of inputs on the mixer. No computer FX added.

Description : While I have been messing with drum machines I have been learning lots of famous patterns to throw though the drum machines. This one is the basic Miami Bass pattern. I have added vinyl crackle and a hit FX from the Edge to the basic loop to spice it up.

Description : Accidental riser made with the FX600 pedal. I noticed the super long tail on the kick track I recorded and simply reversed it for this riser.

Description : I can't get enough of drum machine action at the moment. I've been learning many famous patterns in the process of messing about. This one is called Mother Popcorn (Funk?). Anyway I have destroyed the RD-9 with industrial noise from the Edge and overdriven the lot through the mixer.

Description : Take the amen break midi and put it into the Juno-D percussion engine and you get this. OK I squashed it too with NI Driver and Breakshaper. Finally a touch of NI Replika as well.

Description : Techno bass made with the Yamaha V50. Side chained to a 4x4 kick so that it will sit nicely in your techno track. Deep bass with a groovy rhythm ready to rock. BPB Bassaturator thickened the sound up.

Description : Roland SP-606 Sampler. Using the feedback ripper FX to make a polyrhythm that would be near-impossible to play or program. Then I filtered the result through my FX array. Comes to life when layered with other on-grid percussion.

Description : The perc sounds in the Juno-D are perfect for a bit of house/tech-house. This pattern was sequenced using Juno-D samples in an Ableton Drum Rack with Breakshaper FX and finally a Replika delay.

Description : Another psytrance FM lead, this time embedding the stutter into the pattern instead of using an effect on the loop to make it stutter. I think this way gives more control and is a little more musical. Sound design experiments continue.
