Alright,.... straight off, this is the best intro to a song I've heard on Looperman in a long time. Phenominal timing and combination of sounds. That first guitar sounds like guitar loops, but I like the tone. Second guitar sounds more live. Good blend of distortions.
Synth in this is rather tastefully done. Something I'm working on. Sounds killer here.
1:26 buried snare soaked in reverb is awesome. Would like to hear that louder. Glitches are neat, and thank you for not overdoing them.
Somewhere between 2:00 and 3:00 needs some kind of guitar solo or prominent lead. Killer riff, but that is where it starts to get old. Just needs something new going on there.
This definitely sounds like a Deftones track in the distortion and the vocals.
There is a lot of mud in the heavy guitar parts. May be able to eq that out. It's in the backing rhythm guitars. The vocals are a bit watery and non-distinct, but it kinda sounds like that was you plan.
This was a good listen. Kept reminding me of "Change(in the house of flies)". Well written. Good stuff!
Deftones is always an influence for me , so that's awesome you say that!
I am still learning the ins and outs of my software, most of the eq work seems to do little or nothing to my tracks, so i am still hit or miss with that. Any advice from you guys would be well appreciated !
The vocals were kind of a stream of conscious fade in and out sorta thing.
Thanks for the constructive criticism , as well as the compliments !
Intro made me think of Gin Blossoms, then Counting Crows. Could easily hear Adam Duritz on this. Sounds like something Ratridge from here would do, just not as much cheese here.
Hand-claps are effective. Pretty solid song. Acoustics recorded well. No middle 8 that I heard, just some well done verse/chorus business. Ready for vocals, indeed. With it sounding like this, expect some soon.
I appreciate your kind words. And not as much cheese? I love cheese :c Even though its bad for you in large amounts. Can clog up the internals, if ya know what I mean. And thanks, I didnt achieve the sound I was going for with the claps (I dont have the room or acoustics to achieve it) but I do appreciate you noticing it. Thanks for the listen!
I never listen to Hip-Hop because it's always the opposite of this track. I really enjoyed this. The chorus vocals are really great and sound professional. Very good.
Phrasing and lyrics were very good also, and really I couldn't find anything negative to say about your track. I try to give constructive criticism, but I dug this thoroughly.
Hey Evisma, thanks for the feedback! Believe it or not this was recorded with a flipping Kareoke Revolution mic! All the 'professional' sound you hear is all my post editing (mastering) that I do to get it to sound it's best. It was a part of an album so I had to try and do my best.
I got irritated with the popping and didn't have the funds to order a pop filter when recording the album, and so I made one with a wire hanger and a kleenex. And that's the setup I had when recording this. I'm currently saving up for a mid level mic that will provide a more crisp sound than this. When I get it, I'll be re-recording the entire album. And anyone who's purchased the album thus far will get the remastered version free of charge!
I'm glad you enjoyed it, I worked pretty hard on this one.
And again we get another captivating track with a single loop and it works incredibly well when you add your haunting and sentimental vocals. A joy to listen to. Still wishing you some "happy" in your life. Your songs seem hurt. The emotion is thick in your stuff.
Some damn fine drums in the intro. Minimal, modulating guitar line is very fitting.
Followed by grinding, fuzz-covered guitars,..... then bass. Very nice bass distortion there. I've always lusted over distortions. This is a fine one.
Chunking guitars at 0:46 are very clean and the rhythm is awesome. Best part of the song.
We get pretty heavy with everything together at the end there. I dig it! Heavy with attitude, but not thrashy. It has intention and precision. Very well done!
Greetings, O Deep one. Your chasm may be deep and impressive, but like all others, it's littered with pennies, gum wrappers and a few shoes at the bottom. And one old tire. Always and old tire at the bottom of a chasm. Mandatory.
Trrrack!
Intro is muffled chunkiness, followed by a lead that reminds me of Tom Petty's guitarist. Airy "Don't Come Round Here No More" sitar intro kinda feel. Nice tones.
0:55 very lyrical phrasing feel to the lead, like a vocalist's inflections, though I know it's not the vocal part you speak of in your description.
2:53 Another part from you that makes me think of a beach at sunset. Your music has given me that visual before.
The 4:00 area is different for you. Sounds polished and rather professional. Nice.
The following lead onslaught is a fine show of badassery.
Thick and deep guitar tone in the last movement. Leading to an outro lead that makes me think of slowly swirling blue and white smoke.
This one is down with the thickness. Melodic, and more upbeat than I expected.
Name is not befitting.
My suggestions:
Moonbeam Tonnage
Submissive Denominator
Piss On You -a love song
Monkey-Curse Lifted
(and my favorite)
God On God Pornography
The last one is a gem I've been waiting to break out. "Mean Motor Scooter" is a contender, as well.
I hope all is well with you. I should have Hypnoculars done before December ends. I've got a lap-steel intro, an "A" part and a "B" part. I'm repeating the "A" part with a new lead and extras, repeating only half of "B", but then I've got a whole later chunk to write. We'll see. It's at 4:20 at the moment.
Take care.
Evan, robs the grave to snow the cradle, then burns the evidence down.
My vast chasm contains no pennies, gum wrappers or shoes but it does have one tyre, which I use as a toilet. The main detritus is trimmings of timestretched guitar parts, left over from making this epic track bro. Some are miles long. There are also some Nomad beard shavings scattered about.
Lead doesn't make me think of sitar though it's quite "chimey". I did check out the Petty song. Won't Back Down is still my favourite.
First few mins are my fave section in this, mostly cos of the lead chillout guitar (whose timestretched parts are scattered throughout). The chunky rhythm one is also great and does a lot and is sometimes pushed forward as the lead part.
0:55 lead is just some nice, expressive slide playing. Don't think I bothered trying to timestretch that part but did so with a few other bits of slide playing.
2:53 yes like a beach at sunset. My music's all about wide open spaces and far out imaginings. Places I'll never go (eg deep space, Heaven etc) but try to capture in sound.
2:53 is also first of two bass g sections.
Second is the heavy, distorted bass arriving at 5:00 to thicken shit up even more. Makes a big difference and sits on top of the sub bass.
I assume you don't think everywhere apart from "the 4:00 area" is unpolished and unprofessional. Lots of female vocal guitar sounds there.
6:47 has a vocal tune I can sing along to. No idea how timestretching creates such clear vowel sounds.
4:18 badassery was some dark, joyous fun to make. Came up with that section before the first few mins.
"an outro lead that makes me think of slowly swirling blue and white smoke"
I'm guessing that starts at 7:35.
Down With The Thickness could be a cool title. Not keen on your others (for this track) but I'm damn hard to please. You're better at coming up with title phrases when not asked ie just in your general words. Thanks for having a go.
I like the idea of gods getting it on. Poseidon beating off Jesus as Shiva observes with glee. I'd watch that.
This Mean Motor Scooter was a definite contender for this but it lacks the beauty, which is the standout element here for me. More so than the badassery.
Maybe Hypnoculars will be my Xmas present. If so, make sure to gift wrap it for me.
Nomad, pissing all over The Evanator's black kettle.
Not into the electronic genres, but couldn't help listening to such a controversial track. Quite merry and jovial. The kind of stuff that keeps you in a positive frame of mind while peaking in jail. Aahhhh, good times. Highschool was fun.
Good stuff here. Pay the "Darkside" no mind. The force is strong with you, young Spivkurl.
Thank you Evan for the kind words! I honestly don't know what the big deal was either way regarding the song. None of it was the biggest deal for me, aside from being used as some kind of symbol for the downfall of an online community. I may have been guilty of the same in past times, but I can't disagree more these days. Sounds like your high school experience was far different from mine, but then I didn't finish... positive frame of mind is always a good thing when you're peaking though! I went into making this new album with the intent to make it far more supportive and positive than my last couple, and after hearing it all the way through a few times, I think I mostly succeeded. There is a definite shift onto the B-side any way. Well, I appreciate you stopping by!
See you got yourself a Roar Stone. Nice. With several hundred Roar Stones, you could build yourself a little Rorschach. Maybe the first ever Roaratorium. Just a thought.
Trrrrack!
Intro has some serious sneer to it. Zeppelin, maybe, if Page had more modern sounding stuff.
Synth takes it back to "How It's Made" show's music, like I've mentioned on other tracks. Building drums are nice in this section.
0:59 - Slight riff change, same feel. Echoville follows, and sounds pretty spacious and epic.
2:13 - Change gets a touch darker, with thicker strings and less cymbalage. Nice squalling in this part. A pleasant distortion. Grinding.
4:16 - Change of cymbalage is very nice. Whole new atmosphere.
4:48 to 5:09 - A needed transition, though seems out of place and empty.
5:09 has a very "Hot Air Balloon" feel to it. Some rather happy guitars follow, with pleasant offerings and merriment.
We leave with a very Nomadic riff, then a thing of beauty. Outro is very nice. Agreed that you should be quite proud of it. I don't use the word "lovely" very often,... so I won't. It's fuckin nice, man.
Started a new track tonight with the Lap Steel. Won't see it here for a few weeks at my new rate of speed. A working title of "Hypnoculars". We'll see.
Saw the first snow Saturday. Good and bad. Work slows down, but I have more time to write and record.
You were the first commenter to not make this a favourite. For that I damn you for all eternity. No, not really - "just sayin'", as the trendy phrase goes.
I did indeed get myself a Roar Stone. A Roaratorium would be nice and I would put in it a death metal singer and a lion and let them have a roar off, see who comes out on top. Actually, I'm not happy with this title. Too much like meaningless pun-based wordplay, even if it is an anagram of the main instrument in the track.
Serious sneer intro riffage was just what seemed like a bit of a weedy riff left sitting on my Cubase timeline from another track a few years ago. Adding distortion really brought it to life and then things developed when I added the unusual bass arp underneath. I know that's not really your sort of thing. I appreciate Led Zep but have never been an actual, regular listener. However, Black Dog, Kashmir and Immigrant Song are awesome songs.
"Slight riff change, same feel"
Yes, lots of little changes and edits because I'm just stretching out old resonator parts played in very different tracks. None of the original resonator playing is balls out rocking - that vibe has all been added using plugin distortion. Very pleased to give old, unused material a new purpose.
" Nice squalling in this part"
That's the end little bit of guitar with the delay turned up loads to make that part ease us into the pretty mean distorted bass synth riff.
3:12 I thought you might love that thick distortion.
"4:16 - Change of cymbalage"
Yes, moving from open hat to closed and adding a new "trash" drum kit. Also synth bass changes.
"4:48 to 5:09 - A needed transition"
Everyone else seems to love it but I appreciate your criticism as I'm not sure I've got the transition into it quite right. Nice, timestretched guitars though. Would be interesting if you liked them at the end but not in that breakdown.
"5:09 has a very "Hot Air Balloon" feel"
No idea what that means. That section has the only proper bass g riff in this.
I expected your fave riffage to be the 6:15 riff. That's the previous happy triplet guitar of merriment, now with added HyperNomadDrive.
"It's fuckin nice, man."
A bit of fuckin' niceness is an essential ingredient in a nice track bro. Glad you felt it, though I expected you might.
Hypnoculars is a cool title, even if it is just a bit of wordplay. Should be a hypnotic track enabling the listener to see for miles.
Get on that slide and unlock your inner Sliderman. He's in all of us, if we look hard enough.
Nomad, surprised to find himself reading out a tearful eulogy at The Evanator's funeral, following a tragic brush hogging accident.
You've got some heaviness here. A bit odd and loose till 0:50, where you create one of those moments that makes a fella say "aw, shit!". That is good stuff right there.
Interesting distortions being used. I like the rhythmic interplay with guitars and drums.
The center shines, book-ended by good chunkiness that could serve the middle better. A few more elements in the intro may help hold the interest.
I like what you have going on here. Not too many other Rock or heavy music players on this site. Nice to find a new one.
Love the guitars here. Some good tones. Acoustic sounds very nice.
I think the lead that comes in at 0:20 should be a little more quiet, and not get loud till 1:00. Outro could be quieter as well, with the fade throughout instead of being kind of abrupt.
Dang, not much else to critique! Sounds pretty good, though repetitive.
Thanks man! Yeah I have done another version where I did almost exactly what you recommended. I had a learning curve with garageband as far as fades and track levels. I am tempted to upgrade to logic X pro
I do like the bass sound here, but this is more of an intro or verse idea. Drums sound alright, as well. Just needs to go into an established guitar riff after about 30 seconds. I like the feel of it. It just needs a melody of some kind.
This really just needs leads, like mentioned. A guitar lead, then a different instrument, then back to guitar. I like what you have here, it just sounds like a backing track after 30 seconds.
You've gotten some awesome feedback from the people before me. I'm excited to hear this once you've made some additions.
I see now that you didn't do the music. I guess you can't pan the guitars. Sorry, I should have paid more attention. Vocals eq and panning would help, and disregard the guitar feedback.
Thanks for the suggestions. But, ya, there isnt much I can do with a downloaded instrumental. I will try to put a smoother eq sound on this one though as soon as I find the correct tool. With regards...
The issue seems to be the vocal's mix,eq and pan. Vocals sound like there is a lot of low end in there that is distracting and muddying things up. The vocals sound more spread out than the guitars, which sounds kinda bad. Vocals themselves are good, just overwhelming the guitars/everything in a bad way.
I'd say to try to take some of the vocal's low end out, and boost the bass guitar to compensate. Spread the guitars more and keep the vocal's more centered. The two don't sound properly connected.
Now, that said, I really like the writing of the guitars and lyrics. Not so much into the message, but it sounds like you have a bit of experience writing. That's big.
I love the heavy shit, and your distortion sounds pretty chunky and good. I'm jealous.
I hope you appreciate constructive criticism. Only wanting to help.
1:07 lead's timing sounds off. Sounds like you're going for an odd rhythm there. The wild flanging effect is pretty cool. I hear it mostly on the right.
Bassline sounds more advanced than the main guitar, but the rhythm guitar is quite solid.
Yes, vocals. ALL of your stuff deserves vocals. Always solid riffery.
Hey Evan thanks for checking it out and for the feedback. The lead does sound a bit off in timing at the start. I was trying to go for an odd "catch up" Lead and it sounds better with the vocals I had present in the track. I Muted them when rendering because they were far from done. I will see if I can't move them a slight bit to sit better. Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it.
Your verses remind me of Goo Goo Dolls' Iris. Mostly the strummed rhythm. Sounds really well recorded.
What can be said about this that has not been said? Cleanly done and pretty slick sounding. Nothing I've never heard before,(not unique or exciting), but I could not pull it off sounding as good as you have here.
This track just needs unique vocals and lyrics to make it special. Sounds great as is, but needs something to make it stand out.
I hope I was not too negative. I like receiving criticism, though I'm learning that others are not as receptive.
No worries, Evisma. I love the Goo Goo Dolls. Their guitar work is quite inspiring for me since it has such a timeless sound to it. Also, I like criticism because it makes me want to improve :P Thanks for the listen. This song is pretty common I agree, only because I couldn't find a melody I liked for this chord progression haha.
I like warble you've got on it. Automation? Took a second to realize it's a bass guitar. I also like the tremmed vocals. The higher ones are pretty neat. The ending would make a great intro for the next track. Cut this track when the music ends, and make the last bit of vocals be an intro to the next track, which would have to be some hardcore Speed Waltz, naturally.
Hey Evan, thanks for leaving a comment on this! I'm pretty sure there wasn't any automation on the bass, though it was several years ago. I'm thinking it was a combination of a Boss flanger and time stretching which arrived at that sort of tone. The high vocals are me as well, obviously manipulated! The next song on the album was actually fairly high tempo drum and bass, so I guess speed waltz is close (aside from the time signature from what I remember). I'm thinking about getting a new bass soon, but mostly for my wife to play, as she's getting back into it. I'd like to play more as well, I just think I'm far better at guitar (6 or 12 string). Thanks again for the listen!
Man, these are some of the best vocals I've ever heard on this site! You have a REALLY good voice. Reminds me of the '90s and anything that does that is just awesome!
Very well written, it's just the sound quality that is lacking. I'm really impressed. I tend to listen to heavier, darker stuff, but your voice caught my attention.

There is a bit around 2:00 that reminds me of something StaticNomad would do. The filling of a transition.
I dig it.

Take care.

Take care.

A pretty upbeat little tune here. Good stuff.

Very well written, it's just the sound quality that is lacking. I'm really impressed. I tend to listen to heavier, darker stuff, but your voice caught my attention.

This sound really good. 4:27 timing sounds a tad off, but that is a really nice guitar tone you have there.
Rather hopeful and upbeat track. Good stuff!
