on ILL SPEECH OF THE BROKEN FREE by FACELESSIWONDER
You speak like a god, said it before, still true.

Not a genre I care for, but I listened to it because it was you. You have a lot to say, and you say it well.

I enjoy this track very much. I hate some rhyme, but yours were very interesting and engaging. I've never heard anything from you that seemed contrived or empty.

Music sounded good and allowed everything to flow, with some atmospheric garnish.

Impressed. You are necessary.

I dig it.

on GURU Zee BLUE HORNET s Unreleased Rock Song by NiloyMorshed
Hello

I liked this track very much. Mostly the vocals. The music was good, but nothing really new or inventive being done. Pretty basic formula.

The vocals were the highlight for me. No clue what is being said, but it kept me engaged.

There were several editing pops and stuff like that, and the vocals sounded a bit autotuned, but really I enjoyed it all the way through. Adding it to my Favorites list.

on Beer Can Blues 2014 by Willyum1984
Why are there no beer cans in your refrigerator? Warm beer is pretty atrocious.

Pretty good blues voice, except when you say "Pretty", and clip super hard.

Guitar sounds experienced and pretty used to playing bluesy stuff.

Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed it.

Wow. This is the happiest track I've heard here in a long time. Maybe ever.

Very bouncy and infectious. Impossible to be angry while listening to this track. This will now be stuck in my head for the rest of the evening. I can't fire up my DAW now. Impossible to write something when another thing is stuck in my head.

It's been a while since I listened to anything from you, only because electronic is not my kind of thing, but thought I would check this out. Very glad I did. Fixed my mood.

Hey Evan, it's cool to hear from you on this track! Your comment pleases me, as I made a promise to myself to make my next album considerable more positive than the last one. "Impossible to be angry while listening to this track." I can't help but laugh when reading that, because I was immersed in anger most of the time I was working on this one. It's cool to hear that it didn't contaminate my art! It's better to be stuck in the head than to have your head stuck. I realize we make different sorts of music, but I appreciate you leaving your comfort zone for a few minutes. I'm fairly proud of this one, and it's 2 plays away from 1000 now! Thank you, and I hope that you are well!

So here we are again, listening to another one loop track that keeps everyone engaged,.... somehow.

Vocals are great as always. Some very beautiful imagery, poetic and imaginative.

The layering in the second half is tasteful and soothing. Strength of relationship seems to be a common subject for you. You seem to have found someone very special to you, and that is the greatest thing in life. I lucked out as well.

Good to hear something new from you. I always look forward to it.

I enjoyed the original, as with nearly all of her stuff, so it was good to hear this with some drums and vocals moved about. Hi-hats are pretty effective. The one thing that's bothered me about this track is the original acoustic loop sounds like it doesn't loop perfect, but it's character.

You did good with an already good song. You didn't bastardize it,.... you accentuated it. Nicely done.
aelmen
aelmen replied 6th Jun 2015 - 10 years ago
Hi!
The original loop was slightly offset to the beat, so i had to adjust it which causes more adjustments to charlene's song to fit in to the new adjusted beat. I glad you mentioned the Hi-Hat as the drums was played by myself.

Thank you!

Was not done with my first comment when video ads locked everything up and I had to send it early, or lose it. I apologize for the double comment. My blinking curser is gone! Writing this, there is no blinking vertical line showing me where I am in the text. oh, well.

7:00-7:24 has some beautiful moments of squawkiness and attitude-ness. AHHH! I have no spell-check either! Your low end has broke my fucking computer!!! Please send your rowing butler with a replacement.

Here comes my negative comment.

7:48 drums don't seem to fit. I mean they fit, bit seem too happy and carefree. That changes at 8:24. New hi-hat that really changes the room feel.

9:24 distortion brings whores of a different color. That's the expression, right? I like the inserted attitude it brings.

You end by revisiting the beginning. If you had made some heavy stuff after the intro, like what's before the outro, you would have a palindrome track here! Though you really don't "repeat" things.

Your nice track has been thoroughly dug by the Evanator, bro.

As for "holding on to nothing", there seems to be a whole lot of waveform that disagrees.

Delicate beauty is not meant to be whored around. I don't go for the chick who shows me her tits, I go for the one in the corner, by herself, reading a book on tantric sex and has a pocket full of alligator clips, and she knows exactly how to place them.

Hope all is well with you. I'll send a link and let you download from my account at Samplephonics. My password for there is not used anywhere else so all is good. There is also a Leeds Organ there that is just too big for me to take. (if I had a nickel for every time I've said that). It's in three parts and probably sounds amazing, but that's something for an external hard-drive.

Take care, and I hope you can pick up a bow soon and feel a little better about your purchase. I'm sure you'll be rockin that shit pretty soon! I'll be uploading something this week, maybe, and you just might like it, though I'm having trouble working in the six-string. It may stay minimal. It has a great name though.

Peace, Piece, Peas, Goose!

9,000 additional greetings as I return for more reply-based joy.

"I apologize for the double comment"

Shame on you. It's so painful to have to read your drivel.

Rowing butler has been dispatched with a replacement computer, unfortunately it's a ZX Spectrum with 1MB of memory. That's all I could find lying around my Nomad lair. It can't play back audio any faster than 2BPM so you'll have to work exclusively at that tempo from now on.

7:48 is where I take the drums into ride cymbal swinging jazz. Pretty much the only example of double drums in the track. Are they too happy and carefree? Maybe but I wanted to shift the mood a bit before descending back into the straighter groove 80 BPM fat beat hat stuff. I don't strictly need that section and it could probably be removed without anyone missing it. Maybe I'll keep it. I like to think the psychedelic female vocal synth keeps stuff still mysterious and slightly dark rather than too happy.

"whores of a different color"

is an interesting phrase. I like that distorted section a lot. Gotta go badass a bit. I simply took pretty much the same bass parts from 9:00-9:24 and added plugin distortion. No need for an extra guitar part. Distorted bass g functioning just like a guitar, plus fat bass synths underneath.

I do a lot of track bookending, which isn't quite the same as a palindromic track. You won't be surprised to hear I'm a big fan of palindromes, which is why I have to eventually title a track Rotavator. Needs to evoke the mood of chopping shit up in an agricultural way.

The proper palindromic track would need to be just the same thing from the mid point to the end but in reverse. Damn, that would be hard to plan out. And making half the track digitally reversed would probably sound pretty shit.

You may have heard that there are even a handful of odd people way too into palindromes who really have written palindromic novels. I've read some excerpts and they're absolute crap. I can remember that one starts "Revolting Isla..." and then (somewhat predictably) ends "Al, sign it, lover!" Yes, you can still have punctuation if you're doing a palindromic novel.

" you really don't "repeat" things"

Oh I certainly do but I always present sections in new ways, partly because I can usually find a cool, slightly different way to do any section. Lead bass g section from 0:28 returns later but with new drums and synth bass underneath. Great to hear it return.

I must say that I'd rather see tits than alligator clips but each to their own.

I don't know what a Leed Organ is but I'm sure I can cram it in.

"Peace, Piece, Peas, Goose!"

I still can't work out what goose is doing at the end of that. Too clever/dumb for me.

Bye bye you have been bid.

Greetings, cellovater.

Odd I can comment on this track, seeing as how I'm negative 8,968 years old, but I had a desktop computer and headphones in utero so we're good. My internet connection has always been a bit shaky. Fucking AT&T.

Man, I do like the bass guitars. You seem to be using less high-end string rattle than I do.

Something is going on in the background that I REALLY like around 0:30 and on. Atmospheric swells that almost sound like reverse cymbal that has been slowed and softened. I dig that a lot.

Around 2:30 is some of the best bass playing I've heard you do,... in my opinion. Your kind of guitar line but on the bass.

I'm really liking this track. I like to hear how others handle metric shit-tons of bass guitar.

4:12, all these elements are great together, then the shuffling snare. Lovely.

4:48 bass synth is killer. Croaky, and what god's voice would sound like, since he smokes a carton a day.

6:12 change is subtle but very nice. Guitar line with the delayed 'ascending' notes is just the right fit, and paints the picture of the boggy swamps of heaven.

6:36. Consider my fancy to be tickled! That revers stuff in there is small yet tastfuly effective. Smeared a huge grin on my face.

StaticNomad replied 13th May 2015 - 10 years ago
21st century greetings, O anciently* immature one.

I think you're able to comment on this because you somehow have internet capability in your primitive era that can communicate many thousands of years ahead. I added your name to the track description as I know you Oogle it daily and would eventually be led to this, what we in modern times call a "nice track bro". My crafty plan worked and your primitive version of Google led you right here.

Since about 1951, the human race has had something called "the bass guitar" and I thought you might enjoy its sound as there is quite a bit on display here. It's a bit like "the guitar" but bassier. Much better than the coconut shell banging and animal gut twanging you're doing. If you ever make it to 1951, you should give one a go.

"less high-end string rattle"

Oh no - I struggle hugely with my bass sound and get shitloads of fretbuzz, distorted notes and so on. Carefulish playing and more careful editing produces a better final result.

Your atmospheric swell thing is one of just two pad sounds used in this. Would have used more but kind of ran out of computer processor power so couldn't comfortably add more active synthstruments. The track is actually minimal on synths.

2:24 is a cool little layered bass breakout, still with pads in background.

"I like to hear how others handle metric shit-tons of bass guitar."

How do they? Perhaps some feel it creates a sense of a whole lot of nothing happening. I don't know.

3:48 funky programmed wah VST guitar I thought you might like. Not my fave part but decent.

4:12 synth choir is better. Enya should really contribute some vocals to this. Believe it or not but I'm a big fan of hers.

4:48 killer bass synth is new sound here. I heard God smoked 2 cartons a day but maybe he/she has cut down.

6:12 is a multi-chord guit rise. I have been concerned by you pointing out my frequent rising riff thing (must descend!) but it seems to work here. I wanted a key change there. Not quite though that comes later (7:36).

I wondered if you might notice 6:36 reverse. Not necessary but cool. And cool beats necessary every time.

Grin smearing and fancy tickling are fave hobbies of mine.

"the boggy swamps of heaven"

I was pretty sure it doesn't have any - all clean surfaces and verdant greenery and so on. But maybe you have visited and know better.

More nice words bro in my next reply...

* I just made that word up

Been a minute,... Bro be missed, yo.

If John Wayne Gacy was in the Underworld movies, this would be on the soundtrack.

Wow, dubstep that is actually,..... enjoyable. Sounds more like what I would like to think of as "gettin freaky" music. Something slightly dominating about the feel of this one. Not whips and ball-gags, but burlap and elbows.

1:09 lead line seemed a bit odd at first, but you stuck with it and I really dig it after hearing the progression a few times.

Some dense "digital biscuit batter" moments. Damn, that is some really clear, well mixed badassery from 3:09 on. Awesome when cranked.

The abrupt stop, as mentioned, is all I can say. Friggin awesome.

I paid no mind to the labeled genre. I saw something from you, and hit play.

Hope all is well with you and yours.

Bro been busy as a mo fo fo sho, yo!

I'm glad you liked this. I know you're generally not an electronic fan, so it means even more that way.

The lead at 1:09. I was trying to go for that "chime-y" thing they always had in all the themes to the old horror flicks in the late 70's to mid 80's. I'm not sure which flick that originated in, but I know it's heavy in Halloween and Hellraiser.

I'm not exactly sure why the ending came out abrupt. But, Like Static said, it's probably an easy fix. I'll check it out when the house finally gets quiet. I already have a pretty good idea what the problem is. The abrupt ending should be, ahem.....Dead By Dawn.

"I paid no mind to the labeled genre. I saw something from you, and hit play. "

Thanks, man. That tells me I'm doing something right. I appreciate it.

If she's sleazy, take 'er twice.

on Land of Nod by EazyBeatz
Not a chill out fan, but the track name brought me here. Great oddity in the story. Cain kills Abel, and is cast out of the Garden of Eden, and goes to the land of Nod and joins the peoples there. With four people in existence, Nod should be pretty vacant. The work-around for this that I've had fed to me was that they didn't count females at that time, so Adam and Eve had several daughters that they also cast out,... but Nod can't be all women. Did Cain or Abel impregnate then on their way out?

Anyway, I dig the sounds you have going on. It's a bit too sparse in the beginning, but I heard absolutely nothing objectionable. Calming and soothing.

I like the distortion you have one the guitar. Drums are good but don't sound like they're coming from the same source as the guitars. Lead squalling lines are pretty nice, and the kind of thing I'd like to incorporate into my music. You've got a good, mean sound here. Good drum fills and tones.

hey thanks for your support, I understand the lyrics on the vocals are different but that was done intentionally, I also know the quality could be a tad bit better but I'm working on it, logic pro is a pain in the ass to try to get great quality vocals without melodyne in it but melodyne doesn't work with 9 or logic x it just makes it crash so Im screwed at the moment, any how yeah don't be afraid to check out my other stuff too... if you don't mind what is it about the vocals you don't like the most, is it the lyrics or the quality? That way I can improve if it's the quality because I can write badass lyrics anyhow... thank you...

Wow. Quite weird. I liked it a lot. Not rock, but progressive as hell!

Definantly heard 0:40 riff before. Santana's "Smooth". If it's not a total lift, it was close.

Seems a bit shady to have riffs so close or identical to famous tracks. May want to do some altering.

on Emperor Tritone by StaticNomad
Nice swell in the intro, and you give us some keys this time! I don't recall much of that in the past.

1:00 you settle into a smooth, laid back groove that reminds me of the Pink Panther. Solo trills and slides are tasty.

2:55 shows the entrance of the electric frog from outer-space. Bass is thick and dense, almost too much,.... or maybe it's my new headphones. Aggressive guitars make an entrance and air their grievances.

5:53, we calm back down considerably. guitar line seems to be telling an interesting story about a past experience.

Not a fan of the monster-owl sounds in the last bit. Maybe too shrill for me. Can't place what it is. Surely it's not the cello making an early appearance. Hope that is going well, by the way.

A ream of dirt cheese.

Metallic greetings with a jazzy overlay.

I would not have you down as a jazetal (jazz metal) kinda dude. Then again, I don't know who I would have down as that, including myself. As usual, I'm just trying to make something I haven't really heard before.

Intro swell is decent though I spent ages on it (ie the length and getting the drop into the Rhodes right) but still don't feel that drop is quite right. Good intro sound though.

Don't quite understand your "non-keys" point. There's shitloads of keys playing in my stuff though perhaps it tends to have more of a programmed feel rather than conjuring up the image of someone sat playing a keyboard, as this track does. I've used Rhodes in loads of tracks and here it's me playing all of it plus a lot of correction and moving notes around afterwards. Maybe it has a more fluid live feel than my usual synth work.

I know what you mean about the Pink Panther. Some sort of 60s jazz theme going on there (from guitar) though I have no idea why.

2:55 is my evil synth horn. Doesn't sound too froggy to me but I know what you mean. All part of my unintentional skill (?) in making various creature sounds with synths. Yes, bass may well be too heavy there. Will check back, possibly readjust.

I don't know if you actually liked the metal in here, as you didn't say, but I'll just assume you did. I'd expect at least half a brick shat somewhere in that morass of riffage.

Cello playing is minimal in this one but you can hear it goin badass between 5:04-5:23. No one in the world will hear that distorted riffage as cello. 5:14 screechy slidey squeals.

Still struggling with cello, still not got a bow so mostly playing it as a double bass/guitar. It'll only come alive as a cello once I get bowing and get half decent at it.

Fretlessness is unforgiving on imprecise notes around where the fret would be. Thank Buddha, Allah and Mohammed I have lots of dots as fret markers. I don't understand how people get by without any markers. Exceptional accuracy required for any fast playing.

Yes, back swing chilling 5:53. Gotta return to the jazz. Could have had that section earlier but wanted to not take too long to get to the metal.

Sorry you didn't like the monster owl sounds. That's a rising pitch sample-based string instrument (violin maybe) not my cello playing. Can also be heard playing a haunting melody in the synth horn pre-metal section starting 3:14. Don't know if it also bothered you there.

Not sure if you liked my nice track bro (only expected you to like the heavy shit anyway) but thanks for the thoughts.

No dirt cheese, thanks. I don't eat regular cheese so adding dirt won't help.

P.S. Moved mostly back into house today. Nice having a sofa again. Shed music is over. Think I might come to miss it slightly, especially the sound of a rapid squirrel roof scurry...

Howdy!

An odd and interesting reverb on the opening drums. They sound very different from the other elements. Being panned a bit to the left helps separate them.

There is/was a band called "Snot" that had a particular jazzy/ominous movement of music that they put sporadically throughout their best album, "Get Some". They have a fantastic song on it called "My Balls, Your Chin". Hilarious. They are a kind of rap/rock, and their singer died back in the day.

Hi MrEvan,
The drums are a loop: I usually don't use drum loops (anymore) since I find the EZDrum approach much more flexible. But this song was meant to be a "different thing".
I heard a couple of songs from "Get Some": these guys are crazy... maybe not my favorite type of music, but fun to hear.
Thanks!

Gotta say, the guitar tone you got here is pretty sweet.

Hey bro, always nice to hear your opinion and get some feedback. Yeah it needs some chord changes and maybe a change of tempo towards the halfway mark. Unfortunately this is one of the tracks I lost in my PC crash. I wish I had at least been able to access the effect settings on the guitars because I spent a lot of time working on guitar tone on this one. I need to be less lazy and save the tone settings as a custom tone. I just tend to want to just let the juices flow. I will be saving my settings from here on out though.
I appreciate you taking the time to give it a listen.

Excellent guitar lines! I love the chunky riffage and I've been trying to get that tone you use here.

Chorus part is a very nice change. Needs more bass guitar, but I liked it.

With how the vocals were, I'm kinda glad there weren't any. I love the heavy shit, but not the suffering cookie monster stuff.

Sounds like you were going for a Five Finger Death Punch kinda sound.

Great guitars and a great verse & chorus,... but now what? That can go so many awesome places, and it sounds like you are very able to take it to any one of them.

Good stuff.

on A Little Bit Of Infinity by StaticNomad
Yo, Cellovangelist

Odd keys in the intro that I like, then some twisted bass which is nice.

Soft and groovy around 1:30, with some glidy bass.

2:05 guitar makes a much welcome entrance, gets flashy, then walks out the opposite door.

3:03 is extremely well done and placed. Awesome for how simple yet effective.

This is some really relaxing stuff.

Your parting movement sounds a bit,......Asian, till it glitches.

Plenty to dig here, including the odd tones at the end telling you to flip the tape in your Teddy Ruxpin.

Take care.

Yo. Is a Cellovangelist someone who gets up on TV, does a bit of bowing and plucking and then asks viewers to donate so that they can gain entry to musical heaven? Y'know - to hang out with Hendrix and Mozart etc

Would not have expected you to get much from this one. Too much sleepytime, not enough badass.

Anyway, the odd keys thing (it's Rhodes) is because of one chromatic note in there which makes things a little unusual though still quite melodic, I believe. In trying to come up with some changes, I decided to explore that chromatic note and then the track ended up being dark swing jazz. And then metal, with a big emphasis on the tritone (the flattened fifth).

But, as you can hear, I've since removed all the jazz metal though I'm still far off finishing that strange track.

I think you find the bass 'twisted' because of the wobbling from the LFO (low frequency oscillator).

Yes, I agree with your accurate phrase about that guitar flashing its stuff briefly then walking out the door. Probably to my next track as that's pretty standard sort of playing for me. I really considered getting rid of it entirely as I didn't want the track to be too rocky but decided that didn't matter so it should stay. Just a brief bit because sometimes that's best. Not extending some cool bits is all part of what I have to do to prevent tracks being 20 mins. Inevitably there will be bits that some people would prefer to be longer. I had to resist playing a whole load of guitar in the second half, just going with one slide solo. That seems to be enough.

Yes, 3:03 delicate clean funk is some groovy shit. Take note of the high grooving bass g entering a bit later.

"Your parting movement sounds a bit,......Asian"

As I said to FreeRad, I do some intentional Asian stuff (not that I actually know any of the scales/modes, I just make them up) but sometimes people get an Asian feel from stuff I do that I have not noticed. I can still barely notice it in this track. I love that end string stuff and somehow the Rhodes fifth chords underneath remind me of some Tool song sections.

I had never heard of Teddy Ruxpin so looked it up and it's a toy bear. Presumably that plays tapes. The final two notes in this are an export error and will be removed when I get around to it.

"Plenty to dig here"

I like to think there is in most, if not all, my tracks. Last thing I want is to make boring music. I'll try not to even in old age. Will just have to get more badass then.

No new uploads from me for quite a while as I'm working on a few difficult heavy ones.

I am taking care. You do likewise.

This is really, really good.

I'll sit down with it and see if I can add a bassline.

Best thing I've heard from you.
