Pretty intense! Good job conveying the aggression. Super heavy with some easier moments help with not getting too repetitive. All loops, but it's harder than one thinks. I can't do it.

After 6 years of no love on this track, I hope this bit of respect makes it good for another 6.

There is no doubting the allure of this track. A sarcastic metaphor about world hunger and the plight of farmers in drought stricken areas, with a few political jabs and some existential musings, slyly camouflaged as a song about cunnilingus.

....clever.

This is short, but awesome!

Every time I open the door and walk into my music room, this is the tune that goes through my head. I need it to play, triggered by a motion sensor, every time I go into the music room. Thank you for posting this,.... 9 years ago!

This is damn good! Everything is well done and sounds professional, but the vocals are fantastic! Reminds me of Ghost Lit Kingdom.

Good stuff all around. Favorited.

on THE THING I FEAR by CitizenMofo
Slow, heavily reverbed drums are always a nice way to start. Very nice, clean bassline. Vocals are great without a lot of actual singing. Delivery is fantastic. Some lyrics supplied would be cool. Mix is really great. Guitar starting at 2:30 has a few distracting moments, but that's not too much to complain about. Maybe just a bit too bright there. Man, this sounds SO much more professional than anything I've done. Really good stuff. I don't favorite much, but this track gets it!

Take care.

Thanks for listening and for the comments and favorite, Evan. Interesting - the guitar at 2:30 is a cigar box guitar loop from this site (which I should have mentioned in my intro but forgot), which we kept (instead of replacing with Sunny's guitar) because the chorus emerged directly out of it and so fits like a glove. I wish I could claim credit for the mix but, after I do the initial loop mix on Audacity, I get the final mix done professionally at the studio where we record the vocals and guitar. I'll start posting my lyrics. Thanks again, man!

I'm digging this a great deal. Some of it reminds me of "Gravity" by A Perfect Circle. Great guitar tones and a good deal of power. Distorted bass is nice as well.

Good stuff. There is not a lot of heavy on this site.

This is rather good for assembled loops. Drums are a bit too dry, and there seems to be no bass guitar supplying any real low end. Left channel has a bit of mud or bad midrange,.... but this is all really, really good. I'm not knocking it at all, just mentioning a few things that could make this even better. Good stuff. Guitar is mean as hell!

Right off I'll tell you, Dub is not something I ever will seek out, but figured I'd give you a listen. This is really very good. Everything is clear as hell and there are no cheap feeling sounds. Too short, but man I really enjoyed this track. Vocals are clear and not negative, and for some reason made me think a bit of Ed Sheeran in the phrasing.

Really, some of the more professional sounding stuff I've heard here. Good stuff!

Take care.

Some thickness, indeed!

Not big on djent, but you got a good sound here. Doom filled chugs and clean dissonance. Sounds like a beast conveying it's displeasure with all around it. I can't fault anything here, just not my thing. Very evil, but I like aggression in my evilsoup. Production is awesome and sounds like there is a lot of money behind it in studio time. Rather well done!!!

Hey Evan, I hope I haven't scared everybody off with my last few uploads. They are somewhat dark and evil sounding which is of course the result of such low resonance. And for that reason its easier to compose these type of tracks. I'm working on some more melodic stuff and hopefully will have something a bit more appealing next time. Thanks for the comments man, always appreciated.

Damn fine job in this intro. Timing issues sound like two guitarists playing together without a metronome.

Vocals are haunting and very storyteller like. Reverse elements are pretty well placed and rather effective. This is like a sad moment sung by a soul in limbo.

All I can add is that you should continue this with some new additions. Give us another minute or two. Good stuff. Not polished, but I think some things are better patinated.

Greetings, Mr. Toast.

Well, ain't this some happy shit! But it's the kind of happy shit I really like. I love happy sounding music with dark and twisted lyrics. This is just great! Mix seems fine. No real complaints.

3:15 pluckery is fantastic. The ending section is a real highlight. Fadeout seems like it should be more gradual, with lyrics continuing through the fade. Thats all I can add. I really enjoyed this. I dig the sense of humor.

Take care.

I like this quite a bit. Wishing the first half was as loud and clear as the second. The guitar solo is pretry quiet, but really, the solo sounds kinda sloppy and needs to be hidden. Sounded improvised and could be made much better with some planning. Overall, I dig it. Good feel throughout.

Ahhh,... tracks like this are what I love about this site. Simple, but it will be stuck in my head all day.

You may like the song "The Creature Lives" by Mastodon. Equally quirky. It's about sympathizing with the stigmatized creature from the black lagoon.

Great example of Less Is More. As a constant violator, I need to learn from this. Your instrumentation is always pretty exposed and what it should be,... recorded properly. These tones are not "fix it in the mix" tones. Sure, some eq and other touches, but this hasn't been manhandled and bastardized by radical eq. Sounds very natural, organic. Something I've yet to achieve. Good stuff, indeed.

Take care.

on Fist Bumps Of Fury by StaticNomad
Greetings, to the synthless and loopless.

Quite a bit of chuggery in this first section. I like the steady rhythm with the lead guitar barely able to contain itself. Followed by the drummer declaring himself to be totally ape-shit nuts.

1:20 the badass is gone, replaced by a jaunty character, twanging out his pleas and declarations.

3:00 alternate picking moment is delightful. A lot of strength in the distorted tones,

3:23 Drum break seems to need something in the background. Bassline? A palm muted rhythm? Something.

A lot of this is actually pretty happy music, while still being heavy at times. Major scales when a lot of heavy stuff is minor.

5:22 on is fucking phenomenal. Peeling back the leads and having mostly the bouncing rhythm line going is awesome. Yes, way more up my alley than your past half-dozen.

I dig it. Love the heavy stuff. Aggressive, yet positive. Reminds me of Volbeat's music. Can't stand their singer, but the music is ok at times.

So,... first time we spoke since the whole Trump thing happened. So,........ yeah. I keep laughing at the sky, unable to believe we were hateful and fearful enough to do it. The popular vote went the other way, but we end up a joke anyway. Appointed cabinet will be a circus of creationists and buffoons.

I have at least 1,500 days of hanging my head to do. Sad shit.

I hope all is well with you.

Take care, Alex.

Furious greetings, head-hanging sad shit bro, with your bullshit three ring circus sideshow of freaks.

First you got Trumped, then you got positively brutalised by The Nomad. It's been quite a week.

It's mostly the same sort of chugging for the first minute as the mental drummer progresses through his ape-shit nuts beats, eventually settling on a nice swing metal groove as the first "proper" riff kicks in on 1:20. I think the jaunty character comes from the swing vibe.

"3:00 alternate picking moment is delightful"

I think you must mean the distorted rapid bass g fill. Yes - a nice one there.

"3:23 Drum break seems to need something in the background"

I agree but I don't know what to put there. I wanted a comfortable break from any intensity before kicking into the funkier guitar stuff on 3:35 but you're right that it does sound a bit empty. I should go back and try adding something subtle.

"pretty happy music, while still being heavy at times."

I don't think of it as happy but certainly joyful and exuberant. I know there's only a fine line between joyful/exuberant and happy. Can you believe that my mum actually liked this track? Because of the joy. See my reply to Neo for more on that.

Yes, the ending is fitting and the most badass section - just what was required.

"way more up my alley than your past half-dozen"

It's just as well I don't work on commission from you to make music that you enjoy hearing. I'd get fired. You know it's mostly just my rocking shit that you're into.

Never heard of Volbeat.

So, a furious fist bump to the DTrump if he visits you. But watch out for dark-suited, earpieced types hanging around him. They might shoot your fist off.

The Evanator says we'll see Armageddon soon.
The Evanator certainly hopes we will.

Piano section is nice, then becomes more of a lead. You need something in the background in the second half. Pads in the background would help fill out the sound and make this seem more cohesive. Seems like parts now, not meant to go together. Each part is enjoyable, just very bare. Layers,... give us layers. This will sound awesome.

I like what you have here. Reminds me of Frampton. Songwriting is good, as is the instrumentation.

The only constructive criticism I have for you is in the vocals. Sounds like the signal is clipping a lot. kind of ruins everything. If the vocal track were cleaner, this would sound rather professional, though I like what you've written.

To be completely honest most of our songs and 100% of our demos are two best friends of 20 years getting drunk as fuck, avoiding family duties on the weekends and writing one take shit that we may or may or come back and refine. At this point we are just having fun and writing.

Here are some lyrics I wrote that I'm wantting to put down on another rock or metal track.

I'm the evil that sleeps
that creeps up on you
I don't speak, I spit venom
unhinge this torment upon you
My jealousy and greed is what feeds my anger

I'm spillin it

Greetings, Mr. F.

Vocals clip pretty hard, though I do like them.

I'm usually a rock guy, so maybe you could tell me, with the ducking, is there a filter on the compressor that can effect less of the low-end? It was pretty extreme and off-putting, though I liked the line that was being played.

This is coming from a non-edm guy, so don't consider this as real criticism. Just wondering.

Take care.

on Navigating The Neversphere by StaticNomad
Sup, skillful sculptor of sound & song, sitting in solitude.

Very cool intro. Then going into another section that reminds me of the theme music for '80s detective shows like Columbo or Murder She Wrote.

How are you getting the volume swells around 1:30? The delay effect on that lead is very nice.

2:24 guitar is tasty and fitting, then we abruptly have an interruption with half the band stopping. A new idea and direction.

3:07 kick is great. Kind of makes the section.

Your wicked experimental shit after 4:00 is killer. Sounds like there is a woodwind or some kind of flute breaths mixed in there. Sounds awesome.

7:30 lead line sounds like some smooth bass guitar in sections. Then an outro full of breath and ghostly feeling.

Middle section was my favorite here. No section was a dud.

Not a lot new here. Started a new track on Monday. Trying to make it a little different, but we'll see.

I hope all is well on your end.

Word up, alliterative a*hole.

Surely your greatest alliterative intro ever. Your true calling may be as an alliterative greeting card writer. The land can go scape itself.

"sitting in solitude"

Very true.

Cool intro is a mixt of spiccato playing on the high string and regular bowing on the lower strings. Tricky switching between different bowing techniques.

"theme music for '80s detective shows like Columbo or Murder She Wrote."

That's a surprise. They don't have any Eastern vibes, do they?

"How are you getting the volume swells around 1:30"

Careful bowing, with emphasis at the right points. That cello sound is really muscular. Deep and moaning.

"abruptly have an interruption with half the band stopping"

Yeah - I told them to fuck off and let The Nomad do his thing uninterrupted. They never returned so I finished the rest of the track on my own, playing all the instruments simultaneously in real time. Genius me.

"3:07 kick is great"

Not much skill from me as that kick is simply part of a drum loop. My skill is just in choosing it. And then letting it breathe, with the somewhat minimal instrument playing around it.

"experimental shit after 4:00 is killer."

I agree. Most of that is "beyond the fingerboard" harmonics. You just roll a finger to move up a semitone as the distances between notes are so short though it's pretty damn haphazard so required lots of editing. Very alien sounding.

4:19 I think that's the start of a cool, distinctive lead line. That's the "beyond the fingerboard" harmonics.

"woodwind or some kind of flute breaths mixed in there"

I think that's all just cello. I keep finding new connections on the cello between bowing and blowing. I even got a bit of a bluesy harmonica sound out of it in one of my new, unfinished tracks.

"7:30 lead line sounds like some smooth bass guitar in sections"

No, I can't hear anything to do with bass g there. That's when a new, dark guitar part enters. Maybe some of its lower notes sound like bass g.

"an outro full of breath and ghostly feeling."

The breathy stuff is partly cello, partly ominous pad sound. Nice chillout, dark stoner couple of final minutes. Could have gone heavy but never even tried it. Ominous chillout seemed quite sufficient.

I hope you're exceptionally well.

I had a real tough kayaking journey the other day on my own. Got one leg stuck in the mud up to the knee. Tried to dig it out with the paddle. Broke the paddle and then had to leave my sandal behind just to get my leg out. River current was later so strong that I couldn't paddle against it so had to get out of the boat and pull it upriver. Stepping barefoot on the river bed was not fun. Then decided to put a spare shoe on that bare foot. Had to wear one soaking shoe the rest of the night out around town but it was OK as the weather is warm right now. Crazy Nomad adventures...

on The Mythical Gates by StaticNomad
Sup, sound stretching and string sliding savant.

Drum intro leads me to believe that some funkiness is coming. It's not. Very chilled, stretched sounding underlayment.

Guttural bass at 1:38 is cello, I presume? Cool tone. Fits the space well. This is a "big chiller". Great for someone who, at this moment, may be incinerating and inhaling a particular variety of flora.

3:52 starts a nice run, picked from your many layers, surely. The track I'm working on has a lot of that, thanks to you. You should notice a bit of difference in it.

6:17- You stretchy bastard, you. Fucking cool shit right there.

6:55- A drop-out that I am envious of. It's so hard for me to pull everything back and let it drop to the empty spaces that lay beneath the leads. Air...., My stuff lacks a lot of air compared to yours. I need to work on that.

Well, man, this is odd. I'm writing this to you, sending you appreciation and a "Nice Track, Bro", all while the city around me is exploding. Mortar shells and the general sound of distant war is pounding through the night sky.

Fireworks.

Odd, because it's all celebrating the freedom of being really far away from you, and no longer contributing to your taxes. What is it now? 240 years? We're still blowing shit up, sooo fucking happy to be separate.

A veiled celebration of hate and intolerance, maybe? Whatever it may be, I'm glad looperman is around so I could show some appreciation this evening.

Hope all is well, instead of just most.

Oh my, my mythical gate keeper...

You have reviewed another of my nice tracks bro. It was no longer a featured one so you may even have tracked it down all by yourself.

Not too much funkiness here (a shame for a funk soul brother such as yourself) though 4:31 double time shuffle is kinda funky.

"stretched sounding underlayment"

That sounds like stretched underwear (eg a wedgie) but I think the "underlayerment" here is the long, legato synth bass notes. There's also an 800% timestretched female vocal starting 0:50 that I love.

"Guttural bass at 1:38 is cello"

No, something I like to call "bass g". I couldn't get that low and with that tone with cello. I like that bass playing. Nice high note fills 2:20 and 2:30. No cello in this track. There was some but I removed it and used it to start a new, Eastern dance track.

"picked from your many layers, surely"

Yes, lazy fucker that I am, I only vaguely know what I'll play when I record so I get down loads of stuff and then spend ages editing it, doing some very creative things and making it sound like I was actually clever enough and fluent enough a player to come up with it all in one go.

3:52 is a nice load of Eastern guitar playing. Very spooky and moving.

"a lot of that, thanks to you"

I've got to encourage you to try new stuff. Some you won't even try, some you might, possibly resulting in some new coolness.

"6:17- You stretchy bastard, you"

No timestetching there, but that is a dark, dark section. I think it's a flattened fifth riff (the devil's music).

"6:55- A drop-out that I am envious of"

Yes - nice drop. I keep the same sort of drum groove but switch from a heavy kit to a lighter one and let the delay of the string part ring out, which really eases the transition down. The waveform shows that I'm dropping the energy there, kind of floating down into something else after a dark, relatively heavy section. Then beauty follows.

7:34 is another good drop.

"My stuff lacks a lot of air compared to yours"

I recommend wearing a pair of Nike Air Jordans when mixing.

"all while the city around me is exploding"

Damn, I thought you'd moved to a proper war zone. That or the Missouri-Iowa Meth Wars have finally kicked off. Methheads do know how to blow stuff up, even if it is mostly themselves.

All is mostly well, thanks.
