Completely agree with. DJSLTUK on this one. It's not disco is almost a Hard house electro hybrid. And it has some cool elements to it. It needs some variation and I think in the percussion is where I would play around with this one a bit. Do that and you may have an anthem for the dance floor.
Cru
Hah, That song was from the Canadian band LEN, circa 1999. You chopped it well as I could barely hear it in there as it's sickly sweet sticky buns melody made it the summer number one in both the US and Canada.
Instead you chooped it into a raw sinister industrial sound which I liked as well.
good on you.
Cru
Thanks Steve! I attempted to make it a little more dark than the original track, as it was for rap. I can actually hear the industrial sound you mention.
I listened and immediately threw down my cheaters. This one's got the goods! You didn't send us on a trip for biscuits. A copacetic song I could get zozzled too. Hep hep hurrah!
There is a very retro-futuristic sound you convey here. I get Depeche Mode in the Verse. But your voice is distinct gruff and very good for this song. This is just good pop. great job.
congrats on your work.
cru
Thank you so much, really appreciate it! Not my usual sound, glad it's translating! And now that you say it I can definitely hear some Depeche Mode in there
I like that particular album too. Basically all the instruments are virtual ones (there are live-recorded real guitars on 2 tracqks though) - a very impressive and effective programming work. Also I like the conceptual vision of the album as a whole thing, each single composition is very carefully designed. I checked DEVO refference and you are right - Toax's music is just that kind of pastiche I guess.
Thanks again for nice comments!
The "A" game has been brought to the table. Beautiful Minimalism with hints of atonality and dissonance. Spooky vocals. Pure genius. A koto as well. 4:56 has a nice percussion and jazz sensibility. Then some nice clavs. And a cool movable bass and then the vocal ghosts. And a minimal arpeggiated ending.
congrats you nailed this one Alex.
Fav'd and downloaded (thanks)
Thank you Steve!
We did intense online collab before ('Toax' as other virtual persona as he had few different musical projects) but this is definitely the best one. I asked him for original midi files of 'Neberwirkungen' and layered them using virtual epiano, guitar and a little bit of 'ghost' drumming in the background. I transformed some sequences applying a 'groove delay' plugin to get the interesting rhytmic movement too. All the rest is simply a Roland JunoDi synth. I created 0:00 - 4:00 section first - he added vocal and funky bassline. Then I developed this final version. He stretched the vocal which I processed even more afterwards - the idea was to get a kind of 'afterlife' vibe (because he is obviously speaking to us 'from there'). I really liked that idea.
Funky bassline created by Toax on virtual bass guitar.
I made everything directly on Roland. Drums around 5:00, for example, are from Roland's 'Jazz Brush' drumset and it is actually a random linear pattern I recorded. It is layered with the other pattern with snare accenting 'four'. Epiano and clavinet are also Roland sounds - those are just few riffs I managed to record in a short time and mix along the given funky bassline. I didn't use arpeggiator for that sequence at the end - it is a 'Tri Sine Lead' Roland patch played in a real time with huge reverb and a delay by using the pitch bend wheel.
So this is basically a result of working with given sounds and sequences. Very much experimental and it is a colorful soundscape basically but has more dynamic sections too. Surely the most complex composition I ever made considering the amount of elements used.
I am glad you liked few jazzy flavours I introduced. Thank you for all good words and your support!

Your feedback is really positive and generous and ofcourse thank you for the gif link...It really has something to go with!:) And of course I must not forget to say big thank you for the 'fav'...means alot!:)
So this is a hybrid of Disco (4 to the floor beat for the most part) and the occasional wakka guitar and a moving bassline, but the Robbie Robertson like vocal approach the guitar soloing (phenomenal) and the bluesy edge make me feel this is a less of a true "Disco" song so we will create a new Blues-Disco hybrid we will call Blissco from now on? See if that catches hold. Otherwise a magnificient listen and production was awesome. Fav'd for sure
Cru
LOL, his last name could be Dover, 'but that's all I know about him!'
Yeah, sometimes it's hard to select a genre with the limited selections here on LM. It's usually moot, anyway, because different people hear different things. When someone notices something, like you noticing the Robbie Robertson approach, I say, "yeah, it does sound like that." Midiman suggested Charlie Daniels, and it does sound a bit like him. I hadn't noticed either of these till it was mentioned. Funny how that works.
Anyway, thanks for your kind words; always appreciated.
listening through the mixing issues there lies the beat of a really creative song that has a really strong message. I also love the vocals and they need to stand out more. This is like a raw demo of a Kate Bush cloudbusting era tune from a male perspective! Keep working at this one.
Cru
Thanks for listening Crucethus. I've only recently started listening to Kate Bush. Although I remember seeing the video for Experiment IV as a kid and having nightmares for weeks. Anyways, I love how every song she makes has it's own unique signature. They're always engaging, but never sound like Pop from a can :P
I think I may put this track aside for a while and re-evaluate it at a later date. Otherwise I may end up making it worse and I'll lose it anyway. Thanks again.
Gloomy and melancholic but in almost a afterparty kind of way. Hypnotic and psychedelic in like a quaaluded version of Roxy Music. I had to fav it. I just was compelled to fav.
Cru
Oh, thanks a lot Cru. I bet that Burt will be same happy then me to read this nice and friendly comment.
Good to hear that this little track compelled you to give us the favor of a fav.
And you are right, in a way it IS a afterparty song :)
Much better my friend. Hey just a thought, when you say down for the second or third time, could you add a delay on that in stereo, that would be cool. I love when you say "I see sound". I love the I fall down @ 3:44 with that filter process. Also another silly idea, what if you got a female vox to say "get your ass up" every time you said I fall down. That could be a fun juxtaposition ehh?
Steve
Thanks for taking another listen to this track my friend! While I do dig the style of mixing and composition which you have mention as suggestions, I must admit that I really wanted to try something different regarding spot delays. I have used them a lot lately, and wanted a bit more consistency this time. The back up vocals is a funny idea, but maybe not appropriate for the intentions of this project. The microkorg really came through on vocoder duties this time, and helped me be a bit spontaneous. Again, I enjoyed reading your comment on the update! Thanks!
I am truly a fan of Waldorf now.
So this is the first attempt at a deep house tune using those stems you sent (Merci). https://www.looperman.com/tracks/detail/175338
I won't lie, it's weird and very dark but makes sense to me.
Steve
Hello Steve. I listened many times to the track and I think there is nothing really that 'weird' about this version. I buy it entirely and I love it!
Some of your other works were much more fragmented or eclectic in my opinion being kind of sound-collages of electronic dance music elements, so to speak. This one is incredibly coherent to me and it is morphing very very gently. Especially it the middle area of the track with it's dancing power. Extremly pleasant music to listen to me.
I was inspired by electronic works of german artist Pete Namlook and Blofeld is a perfect synth to make music like this. I will be exploring further the synthesis and posting more tracks in the future. Hope we can make something together again.
Thank you for making such a nice tune! Alex
Hey Alex. Fooking Brilliant Lad, if I were a euro soccer fanatic, but I am not, so I want to add the proper drums to what should be known as a deep house tune. If you will humbly allow me. It would be my homage back to you for (I Wish I could Fly). This has such incredible potential as a deep house tune, that's just missing the percussive elements. but the synths ahhh there gorgeous. and the atmosphere is incredible.
I want a shot at this.
Steve
hello Steve
I am really glad you liked my current synthesizer explorations! Not a fan of a soccer myself either (I am not quite sure what you mean - is that maybe something language-related regarding certain expressions(?). It will be great if you can take it and turn it into something more proper house-sounding. Thanks for that! I know you can make some really progressive music. I have stems ready to go to you and am just about to write you a pm.
Thanks again for your nice comments and the idea of developing the track.
Till then, Alex
So I listened with my wife. And I and she felt the mix is crowded. I wanted to hear your voice in a more grande effect. There needs to be more compression and stereo reverb on that exquisite vox that separates it from the electronic muck. It's a really good tune, but it needs a better mix IMHOP.
That's my honest take and I would hope you would want nothing less my friend.
Steve
You and your wife are entirely correct, and I kind of realized it before uploading. It's been such a strange few days that I just could not wait any longer. I honestly feel like I have no idea what is going to happen next, and that is an unfamiliar feeling for me. I too feel that the mix is not complete. It has been a challenge. Will work on it soon. Thank you for the honest feedback!
I should have spelled it
Cruetaceous for the Cretaceous period in our evolutionary histoire! But I was not spell checking myself in relation to the cru prefix.
Mea Culpa (as you love latin so much)
I think what I was asking for this specific song is a caution to the wind approach because I have heard you do that before as you have linked (very good PR you will do well on the chat show circuit) us with a previous song. When you get to know an artist's work, sometimes you start to think of things they should or could do, but ultimately it comes down to will they? Or why would they? So in my humble Canamerican opinion with a sprinkling of (loads of) sarcasm and no hatred whatsoever of the British tyranny that made us all Mega fat in North America due to you're duplicitous tea and making us fur trap and club baby seals and cadbury as if we needed to indulge in chocolate covered baby seal fur! ...I Digress...........
Great Track Bro!

"the Cretaceous period in our evolutionary histoire"
Do you think you and your music may be seen as the key driver of evolutionary change in this current period of histoire? If so, it should indeed be named after you.
"Mea Culpa (as you love latin so much)"
Much better that than the shockingly incorrect and childish "my bad" that I'm always hearing in movies and on TV. My French cousin even says it, having picked it up from TV. It's so fantastically wrong and immature.
"I was asking for this specific song is a caution to the wind approach"
I guess the wind must have thrown it back to me. It can do that as it's very good at picking items up and returning them to you, provided you're standing in the right place.
I was just a little more conservative and concise on this one but may try to get more extreme sometime soon, just for you. Quite possibly on my latest dance/chill/metal track based around my electric cello playing. That's something you have not heard before from me. You'll like it.
"you will do well on the chat show circuit"
Probably not as this Nomad is unlikely to ever be on a single one. If I ever am, I will come armed with extensive plugs (and plugins) including possibly one for The Cru.
"making us fur trap and club baby seals"
I don't know if my cultural ancestors did actually make you do that.
"chocolate covered baby seal fur"
That's very nice in Cadbury biscuit form. They also do a very tasty Blubber Bar, which is seared baby seal blubber covered in chocolate and biscuit crumb.
Guitar sound in the intro had an "Edge" U2 quality about it. Good sound. I love the guitar solo, reminds me ever so slightly of Tom Cochrane (Lunatic Fringe, circ Red Ryder)
Die Antwoord would be a nice compliment but I'm not sure the (vox) delivery and intensity follows that mode, you have your own style. But I now know you are very thankful, and that's nice, we don't get enough manners these days from people so that's (tongue in cheek) appreciated!
Very nice listen
Cru
Thanks mate, appreciate your comments. U2/the Edge - absolutely, that's the sound I wanted for this song.
Got to admit that I did not know the other names you mentioned, but I will check them out.
Regarding the vocals, it's not me that is singing, it's HEMANIFEZT - but same as you said, I too appreciate his sentiment and his manners. So thanks again for listening! TG
I really like the intro. Almost gives you this Queasy vertigo feeling leading up to the track core. Builds really nicely with the drums and percussion layers and yet keeps a nice groove. 1:19 we get a change with the same synths but now some staccato percussion, I like this. 1:56 a break and then some obligitory 90s snares. And then it goes on for a bit and ends. I like the build it shows great promise, but I wanted to hear more diversity or a new change as the song progressed. you were doing that in the beginning but I think by the mid point we needed some harder sounds and more arrangement to drive home this d & B song. But all in all for 6 mos out your are doing a fine job and keep at it, you have some really cool ideas in the beginning of this track! I will be paying attention
Cru
This is just awesome my friend. Such a great fusion of sound. I like the vocals as well. Is that Janis(carole)? the dissonance of it works well. Soundhound has not trained his ears to hear that yet me thinks! The chill that this song evokes is breathtaking. And the cold ending with two chime like sounds is great as well. Thoroughly enjoyed searching out your work this evening. I was listening to what you remixed with " I wish I could fly" and each time I listen to it I love it more and more.
Cru
hello Cru
Thank you so much for playing my music and writing such a nice comments! I have to go through some hard times at the moment and your words really helped me to stay sane today. Not sure when I will return with something new regarding my music-making - for now I keep uploading some loops on this site only.
Vocal is by TaraToxic http://www.looperman.com/acapellas?mid=TaraToxic Those are 2 tunes I made with a german guy who skilfully programmed that guitar solo. The drumming is a midi performance of EZdrummer with some single additions of mine. I was aware of the 'different key' thing of the vocal part and I am glad you liked my vision - it surely might appear as something obviously unusual for some other people. I much appreciate your opinions and am happy that you like that special airy musical style I am doing.
Mentioning 'I wish I could fly' brings some nice memories - I really liked some of your older tunes I came across the moment when joining this site - especially 'Bedroom Games'. I think I might be able to make some better 're-orchestrations' as I progress with my arranging work (still learning a lot) in the future. Some themes from your songs are great - your synth work was really inspiring to me as well.
Truly I am doing all this stuff only because of this site - in 'a real life' I sometimes take a chance to play and record church organs (as it is a part of my work by actually restoring them). The music became a hobby to me but I plan to do something more with it at some point. We will see...
Thank you once again for your support and very nice comment. I much appreciate that.

"I think you're saying you want it to be longer. Yes - there's loads of music in this genre that goes on and on, seemingly forever. I guess the idea is you get really stoned and headnod along for ages."
No not at all what I meant. What I was saying was I wanna hear you build the track to the point of no return. You tease us with a massive buildup, then you back it down which "lengthens" your song. I'm saying throw caution to the wind and just keep making it chaotic and mayhem and massive walls of sound and energy as far as you can go. That would be a fun experiment to hear from you. I believe there is a certain restraint button you have deep in you that prevents you from doing that. Wouldn't it be fun to explore that side of you you have not expressed yet?
Crueactious period!
It took me quite a while to work out what I think you might be suggesting.
So, instead of me making the track longer by adding in lots of extended craziness, you want me to not return to the chill stuff on 2:36 but instead extend the heavy middle madness.
But I like the return to the chill!
"keep making it chaotic and mayhem and massive walls of sound and energy as far as you can go"
I could fairly easily do that but I've done it loads of times before eg in
The obvious thing to do here would be to also take the drums double time in the heavy middle and then see if I can manage some fast kind of widdling leads. Shredding, as some might say.
2:17 I do quite a nice, simple bluesy mostly two note short solo but I could probably manage more of that.
Overall, I quite like the track this length and structure and enjoy the ambient chill mixed with the balls out heaviness. Thanks anyway for the suggestion. I will bear it in mind, as I do with all (sensible) suggestions.
"I believe there is a certain restraint button you have deep in you that prevents you from doing that"
Yes and no. Of course you should always exercise restraint in music making otherwise things will get too extreme and ridiculous and lack finesse and skill. I have to use the restraint control to not make things too ridiculously long, heavy, layered, bizarre and so on.

"Crueactious period!"

Tastefully restrained, Concise Nomad.
