I love the shuffle like beat that reminds me of of Germanic oompah like sound or tunes. This is an epic undertaking indeed. Drums and percussion were awesome. As well as using the reed instruments, and yet it comes across with a very hard edge indeed. Best sound of Midi usage I have heard so far. And I am not a huge fan of Midi sounds. Like a spiral of darkness descending down layers of your soul!!

Awesome, Very 2002 house with trance elements, stuff Paul Oakenfold might play back in the day.

"Dirty Euro" is ironic on the eve of the Brexit Vote, dontcha think!
I'm gonna use it in a sentence.
That sleazy FIFA executive paid that high class ho for a hand job in "Dirty Euros". Herself being from Wales asked instead to be paid in "slimy pounds".
"Salisbury steak was invented by an American physician, Dr. J. H. Salisbury (1823–1905), an early proponent of a low-carbohydrate diet for weight loss"

So instead of fading out the instruments, just slowly reduce the instruments measure by measure till you're left with percussion, that sometimes works better to get to an ambient feeling in the track.

Nice use of a almost 500 year old progression used for practice and study. And also used in Final Fantasy IX.
enjoyed that.

Hey Cruce, be sure to check out my newest track coming out soon, it's called Master of fucking Puppets!

I get the impression you think I'm trying to pass this off as an original track, but, meaning can be lost via this medium so excuse my outbust if this isn't the case. If it is, do you not think I would have at least changed the name? or perhaps uploaded it to a place where no classically trained musicians dwell? Seriously dude?

on KSE - Arms of sorrow COVER Ruff mix by Mahloo13
Honestly, the vocal work on this cover is so much better than the original. Great job covering this tune and giving it a euro-power metal bent to it. my only slight complaint is that the groove of this song is ever so slightly less than the original. But great job on the cover!

Yeah this is good. I agree with silverman as this does have a billy dragon like sound. Commercial, absolutely, but smartly put together. Great chord combo. Almost not a fan of the sidechaining, takes away from the brilliance of the chord structure. Thanks for sharing.

Veryv good, I was aghast when meatloaf passed out last night in Edmonton, I mean not another one , he is 68, but he is recovering. I guess the reality of this existence is that at some point we don't exist anymore, so cherish the time you have!

Sorry to hear about your loss. Music is great therapy. This is awesome trance. I can feel the emotion. That's the best music. You just getting back to the vibe that you love the most and just putting out there, raw and unfettered. My Dad will turn 80 Aug 13th. I am planning to surprise him by going to see him in NY this year from Ottawa and he doesn't know I am coming. I know that Time is working against us at this point. I am here for you mate ! great work

Many thanks Crucethus. Music definetly helps me a lot now. I tried to put in some emotion without overdoing it. Although the heavy saw synth might be a bit much I found it good for bringing over the emotion if you know what I mean :p

on The Denim Clad Monk by silverman
This is a cool trip. The bass line almost mirrors a snare drum pattern cadence used by the military bands of the west. Then we have crazy sitars backed by a soft drone. Then a sino like modal pattern with those midi guitars. 2:30 is like new age pattern from the late eighties early nineties. 3:22 those monks return with real snares. cool convergence of sounds very creative and I like how it's like a journey. Nice "ting" for the end.
Great job.
thoroughly enjoyed that one.

on No Love No Trust Feat Lily und Wolf by 7venth12
This is brilliantly put together. ie, 1:48 when the singer is silent you add a melodic line (synth pipes) works awesome and follows the rules of pop songwriting to a T. Nice male vox at the end quietly introduced.
really good work.

on Everything Where It Should Be by StaticNomad
Not wanting to interrupt your Whale Voyerurism ( The urban sport of searching for whale tails (thongs that have peeked out above the waistband of a woman's skirt or pants.)
"Let's head down to Post Office Square for some whale watching")

Right now I am just absorbing the vibe of this tune before I detail it. Nice Dr Dre California intro.
Fascinating chords after 3:05 Bb to Dmin to Aminor. cool progression and different from your other works. I like the Sax, Reminds me of that gritty seventies style Roxy Music would give you in the early works. Don't put anything on them they sound great dry. This is a fun tune you made and you should be happy and proud.
Ending was a little cloying but why not, it's Christmas.........one day.
Willy would be proud of you if he wasn't freed.
I once went to Seaworld in Florida and saw the Orca's and stuff. I went to the food commissary and was disappointed that there was no seafood on the menu. I mean I had my fish all picked out and stuff but they looked at me funny and cursed something like (F**cking moron) under there breath. Whatever; I mean it is a giant fish store ! terrible customer service.
I shall return:

Word up, Crustapher (F**cking moron)

Are you amused to see there's a guy on here called that? You should work together, perhaps calling your little group Crustethus or Crucepher.

Sure, I enjoy a bit of whale voyeurism. I like to feed that whale so usually slip some fresh fish in there.

"Nice Dr Dre California intro."

Ha, I had to go back and listen to that total classic again. No, this piano bassline isn't similar to California. What you're thinking of is another Dre song but I can't remember which one, which is annoying. I've never before used piano as the predominant bassline. Works well, I think.

"Fascinating chords after 3:05 Bb to Dmin to Aminor. cool progression and different from your other works."

I like the lead cello in this section (which sits on top of two other cello riff layers). If you think it's different from my other stuff, that's probably cos it's a new instrument for me in a different tuning so I'm not altogether sure of which notes I'm playing. I'm bound to discover some new things that way.

Yes, I think the mostly dry sax works fine. You'd expect me to put loads of reverb on it but I've tried to be different by not doing that. Delay just comes in occasionally.

"This is a fun tune you made and you should be happy and proud."

I agree and I am.

"Ending was a little cloying but why not, it's Christmas."

Sorry - I just tried to give it a conclusive, definitive ending rather than some of my lazier, more abrupt ones from the past year.

See you later for more thoughts. Perhaps on this track but perhaps also on whales.

Intro gets right into it, love that. 1:02, nice clean g- sound nice slap verb. This one could use some vocals. 2:01 awesome breakdown. Sort of a cha cha cha beat here, nice. I think your swamp is very clean and not murky at all. Your melodic structures always carry this appalachian modal feel in your work. 3:556 heavy and reminded me of Cult of personality from In living colour for a moment. Shit and 4:26 reminded me of old old faith no more (We Care A lot).
Don't like the main fade so much at 5:03 and the bass following as you drip into ambient fields. It's like I walked into Bed Bath and Beyond and just accidently found the Beyond! But really intriguing song. It's definitely an Evisma song but more dimensional and new ideas which is cool to hear.
Good Work.

Ah, Mr. C. How are you?

I appreciate the kind words about my swamp. You're a hell of a fella. It's not really muddy, but dark and crickety.

Appalachian is a comparison I've never heard before. I believe I mostly play in a harmonic minor pentatonic type scale. Never got into blues or jazz. Always stuck with minor rockish vibes. Played tuba in marching band but it doesn't translate here.

Never a fan of Faith No More, so hit YouTube to hear We Care A Lot. I hear a bit with the thumb slapped bass. Not the same vibe, but I get it.

Any suggestions on what is wrong with the fading transition? Your thoughts are always appreciated. Too sudden? Ill-fitting parts?

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it.

Ha ha, yep the genre has changed to hardcore. As I mentioned to someone else, the way I figure it, if I were to replace the synths with brass and play the guitar myself, it would probably make believable ska... maybe I am wrong though. What is the difference between "digital hardcore" and simple "hardcore?" I have listened to ATR a good amount over the years, and I do enjoy their stuff quite a bit. Thank you for giving this a listen, and leaving you comment!

on Something You Said by Planetjazzbass
Percussion, percussion, percussion. That is the delight to me in this track. Oh and the fretless bass. Yes the vox may be gibberish to my syntaxic brain, but the melodies are divine. Very nice guitar with a classic Aussie (historically) reverb on the slightly distorted guitar twangs. Syncopated percussion and the overdriven guitars give me a mid seventies progressive era vibe. Tastefully mixed. Excellent ending on the vox. Overall a pleasant journey and a great job PJB. U get 2 turntables and a microphone for those efforts. ;-)

Hey Cru thanks for the cool review mate....I mostly always spend the majority of my music constructing time on the drum track and sometimes it can deflect the original inspiration into an endless search for a certain triangle ding! lol, it's sort of frustrating but gratifying in the end I suppose, but that's why they invented drummers (and percussionists) I guess!....I already have one turntable (no scratching) and a microphone can I please swap it for an electronic expert to fix my two Tandberg reel to reels which need some work and are gathering dust in a cupboard....then I can splice vocals and run them backwards and leave subliminal messages in my tracks!...cheers mate Dave :)

Love this sound structure. I was just thinking how it would sound paired with blast beat drums from the heavy metal scene. Or some kind of massive syncopated percussion. But then i am always thinking about percussive elements .

on The 9th Planet by Planetjazzbass
I wish I could put my finger on the exact sound part I am about to describe. But there is something about Australian guitar music that is just so distinct to that continent. Whether it be yourself, Dave, Or Icehouse, or INXS, or Pseudo Echo, or Crowded house or Midnight Oil, Or the Sherbs, or the Little River band, or many others . When you introduce the guitar in your works. You create a soundscape that is reflective of the vastness of Australia. There is a tinge of melancholy, with a dash of vastness of the desert and bushlands, a moment of beauty of the land and area you live on now. And a feeling of nature. I cannot explain why I feel that way when I hear Australian guitar, but being a science based logical guy, I'm sure there is an underlying reason for my assuagement of the Antipodal guitars!
carry on!

Hey Cru, thanks man! I can't speak for all those guys you mentioned but we're all pretty much from the same generation and I guess it relates to something that influenced the musical thinking of the time here. Australian musicians really suffered from an inferiority complex pre 70's, not so much from ability but rather exposure to what was happening in America and England, all the cutting edge stuff (I'm speaking broadly here) I mean all the blues anyone played in the 60's was 12 bar and apart from widely dispersed jazz aficionados the place was a musical wasteland...Hendrix happened (I'm only mentioning guitar bands) but nobody could emulate him obviously but then Pink Floyd came along! people could really sink their musical aspirations into that, I wore out their records and so did most of my friends playing them over and over...David Gilmore saved us! haha...your way too kind in your review, my guitar playing is always a work in progress, being a bass player I never use a pick so I steer clear of heavy metal it would cripple me! lol...thanks mate!
Cheers Dave :)
