I use mostly Korg products for my synths, and those were so recognizable as Korg sounds. Turn those wah sounds into basslines, add some stereo reverb, and you have created my basslines from my early days. This is a fun track you have made.
nice job
Cru
It is most likely the most minimalist work of D&B I have ever heard. You use the whole spectrum of human hearing which is a good idea, but keep it so simple and minimal. And drive it completely by the percussion. Most intriguing in it´s sparseness. It will be under-appreciated for a bit, but I think you are on to something. Keep at it.
Cru
Thanks man, I love percussion and want to do a lot more with just that.
I'm happy you noticed the mixing side of things, I'm trying to hone my mixing skills, it's difficult with the kind of music I make as you can probably imagine, so I started with the basic stuff.
I appreciate you stopping by, good luck with the Halloween competition :)
I love this one. Feel like a Martini just listening to it. What really intrigues me is how you mixed it. The opening Rhodes piano is compressed to the DB limit,But used in a staccato like way which works well and the percussion is so subtle. And then we have the heavily chorused organ, which almost gives it an old rotary cabinet feel. The bass also fits in nicely just adding to the sounds and not dominating the melody. good work.
Cru
You know Dave, just an aside, I just did a Halloween tune, that has that New Orleans funeral kind of drone to it on a funk basis, and I had been listening to this tune (your tune) earlier in the day before I made that tune, so there is definitely an influence in sound strategy going on subconsciously and I did not realize that till you commented back. Music is awesome sometimes ehh?
Steve
Jeez Steve talk about six degrees of separation, just before I made this track I was listening to some Dixieland (probably the only form of jazz that I'm not particularly endeared to but their my father's old records so I make a habit of listening to them) and I got the feel of a New Orleans funeral procession, must have been the tempo or all the bodies piling up in Narcos! lol... music certainly moves in mysterious ways brother...I'll be over to check out that Halloween track mate..cheers Dave
I like this one. There is a lot of space to explore in this one. Always a fan of alternative percussion. Song just takes you along at it's own pace. At 2:37 is a tasteful piano string bridge, invoking the emotion of the wreckage in the lives of people around, near or using drugs. I feel the bass line represents the never ending progression of time and is the anchor of this tune.
great work as always.
Steve
Hey Steve thanks man!..you totally got where I was going with this piece, the second half nearly developed into a quasi funeral march at one stage.lol I had thought about using some lyrical content with a hiphop artist but that fell through and on reflection I'm glad it did, it would work better as an audio accompaniment to some film footage I think, thanks again for your comments mate very much appreciated!..cheers Dave :)
You like that guitar ha? ;) Same one I played on Time for work blues, the black one in the center http://imgur.com/gallery/QZBjOoT Doom-Blues, perfect! Two of my favorite genres!! I need to make some cigar box guitar black metal now. Thanks Cru :D
I love whole tone atonal music, and this is nice, plus the midi makes it sound spookier in like a seventies-eighties way. I love the fact you are exploring all the flavours music has to offer in the theoretical world!.
I'm happy you can dig the whole tone approach, Cru.
and yea - I'm so behind on synth sounds and techniques that I will probably be stuck in the 70's-80's for the duration of my writing career. But hey, it's a great tradition to keep alive. LOL! Thanks for stopping by and glad you liked the track. I'm about to check out some of the tracks here in Wobbin's Halloween thread as well.
Oh My! really really good Awesome production on your voice, esp the harmonies. and a great arrangement, and as usual buyoed by your incredible talent.

Lovely dark intro. typical guitar mode from you. you need to explore some other modes (scales), but I am happy that you split them up with different instruments. It´s a better version sonic-like of what you have done in the past. but it sounds familiar. though much more sophisticated. if that makes sense to you!

I've been working on some different stuff lately, but really it still sounds like me, so I'm probably not exploring enough still. Working with more acoustic for chord progression. Something I've never really had. I appreciate your constant nudging me forward, expecting growth. My life knows few like you.
There has been a palpable jealousy of Canada at my house this week. Can you guess why?
War, when is it coming? War by computer, destroy the infrastructure using code. starve the people by decimating the digital experience. You have captured that here.

That made me laugh Cru!
What a description.
I'm 63 years old.
Old before my time with multiple spinal problems and it would seem it's showing in my music.

Thanks. You are probably right about the dnb. There was a time where I think this would have been considered Jungle. Everything has splintered off into so many sub genres that I don't know what's what anymore. Digital hardcore is fine with me, since I grew up listening to bands like Fugazi, Suicidal Tendencies, Black Flag and Agent Orange. Yeah, I used to skate....poorly....and my knees hate me for it!
Just needed to get inside of people's heads for a bit, I'm sure you understand that need! Now I've been composing on classical guitar and wondering if the sirens in the background are meant for me... Sold a Casio for the first time in my life today... life must be real crap! So how is Canada? Seems like things are looking up there... realtors here are advertising Canadian properties in defiance of Trump gaining leadership, but to be honest I'm just as fearful of a Clinton future. Maybe I should just move to Russia, to be on the right side of WWIII. Thanks for taking a listen!
I love the percussion with this one. Nice Harp. Bass is cutting through my studio speakers. Good mix, ethereal sounds never get boring. Jazzy at 2:43. Really cool stuff you made there out there in Cymru! 4:00 is another nice breakdown with some nice and loud synths. Two thumbs up, a bag of twigletts and a lion bar!
Cru
Pete is spot on with the Belew reference with a hint of Fripp. Your work on guitar work is awesome. Then at 2:12 that little melody line, was just exquisite. Loved the ethnic percussion underneath. But the melodies were awesome. Favd for sure. great work and a great listen.
Cru
Hey Cru, see what I wrote to Pete below, both of you are so kind in your comments. I can't deny that Fripp is a great influence, although I can't play any of his stuff. 21st Century Schizoid Man is a song I love, always listen to it, that guitar sound...and the distorted vocals...yes! So thanks for listening and the lovely comments!

Well, I'm a late bloomer, maybe the most promising 43 yo in my genre ;)
Korg has some tremendous sounds that can be used as effects in almost all genres. It took me about 43 years to get that.
Thanks for listening.
