Sweet. Just nicely tasteful reggae style from the late sixties early seventies sound. I used to go to a reggae night back in the day back in the states and watch this band do covers. There version of ¨Hey Joe¨ kicked ass, and the lead singer could also play a soprano and an alto sax at the same time. quite a feat. What I love about this is the bass work is awesome. The first part of the phrase is traditional reggae and you end the second part of the phrase with scalar jazz, brilliant composition. I did not realize you released a tune with the word Dread in it as I put out an ambient tune called Dread, But ever since Halloween we have been on a mental simpatico that is a bit spooky. My song was about the dread people might be feeling after the US election. Your dread song is much more uplifting and musically equates some hope. Congrats on another great piece of work Dave.
Hey Steve thanks mate!..same track names different inflections, haha when I hear the word dread it's always pronounced with a Rastafarian lilt, no wot I'm talkin about mun (accompanied by sound of big spliff getting lit up in background)....it's kind of sad that Dubstep has replaced what used to be occupied by reggae but that's life, a cousin of mine recently spent two years working in the Seychelles and sent me heaps and heaps of their local music which is very reggae based but way more pop oriented, sort of reggae without the ganja! lol...ah me no partake of de erb dees dayz mun doze rastas wud tink I'ma crazy mon mun!...cheers mate Dave :)
Steve! Thanks so much for stopping by and taking a listen. I am happy to know you enjoyed the 'pella. I had to actually YouTube Junior Vasquez. That would be awesome! At the point when it's finished I will definitely contact you. I have to check to see whether I will need an additional mechanical license. I believe you might have my contact info? If not, send my a PM so that we can touch base via email.

Good point about the snowflakes and pronouns. We've never talked about it but I actually think about that annoying subject quite a lot and have been following the case of your fellow Crunadian Professor Jordan Peterson with great interest. See him defending his refusal to capitulate and be forced to use made up pronouns here (and in many other videos):
Chubby Checker may well have fisted the night away but perhaps just didn't sing about it. I don't think Elton John was singing "Yeah, I'm totally gay" when he was married to a woman in the 70s.
Anyway, back to the fist bumps, which are much more fun.
Good decomposing grandmother joke. For that you get as many drum hits as there are in this brutal track. So, about 10,000.
"BTW 3.25 reminded me of something New Wave or Van Halen like with the drum tom solos. "
Perhaps though that section probably is a bit too open and needs a little something else (bass?) to go over the top, as pointed out by The Evanator.
"I was Banging my head by the end of this and I loved the ending. "
Good as it deserved that extreme ending. I had to take it even heavier than before and I managed it.
Brutal Primal Nomad, brutalising Crunadian ears primarily for the fun of it.
Love the beginning 7th progressions. Then we get dissonant.....nice. 1:03 is a foreboding pad. Then a dissonant piano section. Then back to the mighty pads 3:12 has an atonal Piano-bass line, cool. Then a vibrato synthoid instrument to express emotion. This one is all over the emotional map. 4:19 sounds like you coming to terms with the music and your psyche as it has a positive vibe. but wait...you end on a sinister minor note....curses for making me emotional invested...lol. this is a great work. i enjoyed my listen.
Cru
Hey Blue Sky. First off congratulations on some really nice acoustic guitar playing with an awesome melody. What I hear here is a need to fix the mix a little bit and to add a bit more percussion. Also I would like to hear the bass more in the mix as that will enhance the awesome acoustic guitar playing. If you have the stems available I would love to work on this one as it made me sit up in my studio chair tonight. PM me if your interested as I saw your collab request.
Cru
Dude, again a strong piece of work from you. can you PM me your Antares auto tune settings if you would be so kind? I have some ideas as well of expanding that vocal sound to make it wider in the mix and even more compelling. to me that vocal effect reminds me of a human cello. The cello is the most expressive string instrument and can convey emotion. This is awesome cinematic work. favd.
Cru
thank you. I dont have autotune, this was a loop I got here. looperman-t-0150050-0180678-futureanalysis-farewell. I just edited and messed with my vox a bit. it is a really good loop.
Thanks Cru! this week end, i went to hear a friend reggae / dub band. So after the concert, i gave us all my dub tracks. They listened to them and they told how they were surprised by the mixing: Only the kick should be more present.
i think i'm going to ask help near a friend who's job is sound engineer :)
Ahh, late night back from work. I make a nice gin and tonic (perfect mix of gin, lime and tonic water.) then I sit back and listen too this. I think my blood pressure has fallen to an acceptable level, and I can finally relax. mate this is some fine work weaving Ed´s guitars and composition with the beauty of your Piano playing. We have reached Nirvana! Only Gabriel, and Ferry and maybe Gilmour have reached this level of intimacy in there arrangements. Bravo...Bravo
Steve
Wow Steve...this is incredibly generous my friend ! As if
Peter, Bryan and David were there because of too much gin and tonic...haha...Joke aside my friend...I'm sure our friend Ed would be delighted to read this too, and personally I like the idea of music as blood presure leveling tool..:) Thank you so much for your kind words and the fav as well...means the world!:)
sounds like a great idea but I will leave genre 'covers' to guys that know what they are doing like you. as for me - i will just keep taking the drugs and hope for the best with these tracks! best regards. Dan
Nice Mix, Alexx Marie´s vox reminds me of the Canadian artist Allie X just a bit. My only critique is that the beat is more like a 2 step and so might be harder to dance too. (unless you developed a volcano line dance?) I was almost waiting for a section where you drop a 4 to the floor beat with the same rhythm and bass structure. But technically the mix is great.
Cru
Thanks for commenting. Believe it or not, I hardly ever do records like this because I know there are other producers who live and breathe this genre of music. I actually tried the 4 to the floor beat but it didn't work the way I wanted so I stuck with a 2 step as you descibed it. Normally, I just make more Pop/R&B and Rap records when I feel froggy. I've even tried my hands in a couple of Rock records that I have on my page but Dance/EDM or Electro have not really been my expertise. I tried to do some things outside my comfort zone but sometimes it doesn't translate well. But thank you for the feedback, I'll take your words for consideration if i decide to tackle this genre again.
". I am assuming that you are suggesting automating the cutoff point on the filter to progressively cut back on the high frequency content as the phrase plays? "
Exactly my friend I am experimenting with VST's as well lately in my songs, have fun with them ehh?
Hey Mod. I love how this builds. For some reason while listening to this was a fantastic experience, which means to me technicality aside the artistry took hold and transplants you somewhere else. That´s what we as artists are always striving for. You did that here so congratulations on a great piece of art.
Cru
I like this one and how it meanders along building subtly. Reminds me a little of Roxys dream-home heartache in how that style of writing just builds tension in the listener. Also a little Radiohead Kid-A like as well. I enjoyed my listen.
Cru
Thanks a lot Cru, glad to get your take on it. I'm not familiar with the songs you mention so I will have to check them out. This is just basically a result of playing around with some Hall reverb and Delay to push the limits of decay time from the effects.
I agree with mosaic. great mix, nice stereo seperation and clarity. And I agree with you about the high frequency issues. Have you thought about adding a cutoff filter for that High synth stab that could slowly descend as you play the phrases?
Overall nice job.
Steve
Steve: No, that actually didn't occur to me. I did try EQing that track, but I do have some other filter plugins that I could experiment with. Good idea. I am assuming that you are suggesting automating the cutoff point on the filter to progressively cut back on the high frequency content as the phrase plays? I've never actually automated anything in my tracks other than volume and pan. This is a good opportunity to learn something new. I think it's pretty simple to do. Just need to read up on how to do it in Logic.
If I'm successful, I'll post a new version and, as suggested by Mosaic, I'll remaster the track to give a bit more oomph.
Thanks a lot Steve.
Nice to see that you give this one a try after one year :)
Good to known that you like it and also that you get the irony of this little one.
I love the intro you made, and then you bring in Burton´s dirty swamp guitar, except you cleaned it up in the mix. Needless to say, it´s a great mix. 4:02 we get a hint again with the creepy opera sounds. truly haunting and cool evil chorus ending. nice job on this remix.
Cru
i am glad that you noticed that hint at 4:02, Cru. you know very well as an excellent composer that it can be an effective technique - to bring back just a taste of something that came before. thanks buddy
