Your talent is showing MisterCh....this is a good listening song very nicely delivered...love the acoustic accompaniament and you did a great job on the vocal delivery....I agree there a few little production things that could make this one shine even brighter, but that does not detract from an enjoyable piece of music...its damn good in every way...the technical things will get better with experience so jusy keep doing it...you have much to offer....Hope to check back once in a while and listen to your progress...A big WELL DONE to you...really like this one...fav.....Ed
Hey, Ed
Sorry it took me so long to answer, but I really appreciate your input, as always! I am glad you liked it, and I will try to work on the song again to improve it!
Thanks for listening and for commenting :)
The quality is fine...production sounds good....A study by The American Music Society says that 50% of people cannot tell the difference between a full Cd (wav) file and a 160 kps MP3 so no matter how we debate it here...you`ve got all you need....nice smooth chill mix...hope you get the vocal you want......well done...(the ending was a bit sudden).....Ed
Thanks for the comment tumbleweed, I talked about the ending a couple comments down and explained why it was a little sudden. Also, I am getting what I think are some good vocals on here. So I hope you like it!
You should be taking your music on tour guys...guess that would be a bit difficult...but you definitely sound like you should be playing at some expensive night club...very pro (as always)...everything playing the part perfectly...and I`m sitting here enjoying the result....another great track....Ed (PS:buy Aleck an extra drink...great organ)
Thanks so much for your kind words. I certainly wish we could tour, but the thousands of miles are a bit tough to overcome. Hell, I wish we could just be in the same room!
I agree about Aleck. When I heard the organ for the first time I was blown away. I hope he'll continue work with us.
Well Static....since I think genres are useful when one is looking for a particular style of music to listen to and something that would often be best disregarded when creating music, you get my vote on whatever genre you want to post under...really like the swinging beginning....I would have been happy to listen to it the rest of the way...and then it starts evolving towards the wild side...introducing the chugging guitar....drop to the cool piano...bring in a bit of Hendrix.....turn the rhythm chuggers back on & let er fly...enjoying the ride...and then back around 6:00 to the smooth...and damn...I`m enjoying this again too...like the clean guitar...and notice the well programmed softer style drums with just the right amount of meat... (wish I could do that)....very seldom listen to mixes of this length...but have to confess this flew by....must have been damn good....and I`m not surprised...and the whole thing hangs together like a good film.....Bravo......Ed....PS LM seems to be working a bit better for me on Chrome that it did on IE or Firefox....my thanks for your comments on my track..I was getting a bit discouraged trying to reply and taking 5 minutes to get a few words to enter while the graphics played....
Yes, fun swinging beginning. I'm totally with you on being happy to listen to just the swing throughout ie no metal. But you know what I'm like and I constantly feel compelled to do stuff that's different and hopefully something I haven't really heard before. So, the metal middle could be removed as its own separate track but then I wouldn't have jazz metal and I'm pleased that I've finally managed to pull that odd merger off.
It was really coming up with that evil synth horn sound around 2:55 that I decided it must go into proper badass metal.
It has to return to the smooth stuff around 6:00. Mostly because I just had more of it and didn't want to wait too long to get to the heavy #####. I could have done, say, smooth swinging for 6 mins and then a couple of minutes of heavy. But making them more integrated I find more fun.
You may be interested to know that all the clean guitar playing (ie everything other than the metal middle) was done in one single 11 min take, which I then extensively edited and moved around and layered where necessary. I simply found that I'd done everything I needed in that one take and didn't need to bother picking the guitar up again (except for the heavy #####). It's this type of approach that I've suggested many times for you to try though I doubt you will as you're probably too set in your ways.
So, you still get to do a single take but you then chop it up a lot more to come up with unusual stuff. If I find a cool riff in that long take, I might copy and repeat it a few times and then get other instruments to play the same/a similar thing. This really is how I compose! Just jamming with good riffs and fills over 8-16 bar loops and then seeing what good stuff comes out and building everything up.
"well programmed softer style drums with just the right amount of meat..."
I think you might be referring to the penultimate section starting around 7:30 where I bring back the emphasis on the tritone and metal but without any guitar or banging drums. That's an attempt to give a metal feel to jazz but without the distortion or smashing drums. Rhodes gets distorted again there (wah too). I also use a snare in that section from an EZ kit which is supposed to be for drum 'n' bass. Quite a distinctive sound and not heard anywhere else in the track.
"have to confess this flew by"
That has been said quite a few times on my lengthy tracks and pleases me. Probably something to do with the number of changes and constant new developments. Very important for me not to have a boring moment. If something's dragging I either shorten it or just add more elements (normally the latter, plus lengthening things when the new elements present even more options).
Hey Elena...you were wondering about the drums....they are right on...I spend more time trying to find the right drums than anything else (so I am not a got source of advice)..I use loops for drums about 90% of the time and seldom get what I really want....everything seems to fit just right in this one...so your first rock post is all good...keep doing it your own way...it just keeps getting better..maybe you will get some more ideas from more of our Loopefriends too..Ed
I`m just listening on my PC speakers this afternoon mpoppitt...but as far as I can tell the mix sounds nice and clean and nice to hear all the dynamics intact...sounds good to me...Ed
Spiv...you are your own brand I think..so you can post under anything you like & I`ll still admire the creativity...I dont have the knowledge to give you useful observations on the genre or synths ...and I dont know anyone that is better informed and more capable in both than yourself anyway...so I just listen & enjoy the trip.........right on...Ed
Hey Ed, thank you for your listen and the kind comment! I'm happy that you enjoyed the trip! Your words make me happy. I'm no expert, but I'm finally feeling some understanding of what goes on inside the circuits I build, and that feels good. I'm in the middle of updating this song, taking the reactions I received here into account. I have recorded the bass part with a new modular patch; better tuned and more bass. Weakened and killed the detune on the Korg DW synth. Building up some live instrument recordings and stuff. Got all the lyrics written. Haven't advanced a song after release like this for while. Thank you for listening my friend!
I am familiar with Stacy`s a capella Domenico...thoughtful instrument choices and composing Domenica..carry just the right knd of emotion to compliment the vocal (which is really well done)..nice job onthe guitar and bass....No surprise...I always know I will be listening to some enjoyable music and big talent when I stop over at your place....another good one...Ed
Thanks for the kind words Ed: I am kind of "ashamed" because my guitar playing is really minimalist compared to yours. And for this song I was using a "Smith'ish" approach to guitar (I know, he is not what we can define a guitar hero but I like his music a lot).
Take care, Domenico
Hi X...any time I do anything that is a bit mellow I just post it as Chillout...never even heard of it till I found Looperman...so I dont know much either...But...I know what I like...and you`ve got something really good going here....I`m hinestly not sure I would add or change anything..the minimal approach really lets the individual instrument parts do there thing...and you have them all nicely EQd and placed....Go with what feels right..and if that means you cross genres or drift between them just go with the flow....there are no coincidences...your creativity will just keep growing along with your diversity.....well done...Ed
Our friend Bear is always a great source of inspiration...nice patient build in this one..lots of time for those warm sounds to wrap themselves around the mind...just a good relaxing trip...it was a pleasure to listen doudei...well done...Ed
geez Patricia...I must have been in hibernation to have missed this one earlier...this is indeed special....(and thats not a surprise to me)....just an absolutely enjoyable piece of music...a big well done to both you and Baggadub....more please......Ed
Got it to play this time Alex...glad I did...I think this is one of your best...really nice smooooth R&B flavour ...the music mix is really well done...the right panned vocal is not really a big distraction as it only involves a small part of the mix....do not worry too much about the technical things (they will come with experience)...but there should be a pan control on each of your tracks and it is just a matter of moving the one with the vocal on it to the centre position (or close).....well done....this is a very good piece of music.....Ed
Thank you again Ed. Actually I have to say that I adjusted very carefully the panning of each separated track in here, I always pay much attention to the placement of instruments in the mix. No difference this time, I decided to leave the vocals as they are though. For me they sound ok like this. Also my tracks are not mastered to the modern standards as I do not make commercial music at all. Therefore the only thing to care about is the clarity of the arrangement and final mix. But thanks for pointing all that anyway and some nice words. Basically this is only a sketch based on the short guitar idea sent to me by ferryterry but we want to make another version soon. So I won't be reworking this version here anymore.
Thanks again for reviewing my track - it is much appreciated. Best to you, Alex
the production sounds good....I think the way you compose with the backing warpped around the piano prog gets it into that pop cross-over you were going for Steve...you already know I`m not a conniseur of the genre but its always a pleasure to stop over here and admire the way you take hip hop to a level that was likely never considered in the old days...and you do it well...always good listening....Ed
Hi vivk...first of all Welcome To The Loop...its great to have an artist with your knowledge and obvious talent around the place.....there is no shortage of good musical company and the suscribers are a really diverse lot that seem to live in peace (for the most part) with one another HaHa....This is the kind of music that could wash away the cares of a long day....very mellow...and enjoyable easy listening....well done to you....keep on.....Ed
(PS: you should check off the "featured" box in the upload form..that way it will bounce to the first pages when you comment on other peoples tracks...this deserves a lot more listeners)
yes ...it is a bit dark in both music and song Joe...but you have accomplished a lot with just one vst and it follows your intentions well...good job....Ed
That was right the point i try to go to. Make a track with just 1 vst and let it sound mostly so that it fits to the idea behind.
Nice that you think it works in a way.
-When i started making music (at least 35 years ago) we did all our music just with 1 cheap yamaha keyboard (i forgot the name of it, but it was a mini key one, with a very easy ADSR thing) and it works well) So i think it isn“t to hard to do a track just with just 1 vst ......
You`ve got the whole vibe down to a T Lee.....and I know you have been a bit self-critical at times about the vocal...but man...it totally fits the bill....Lee: its about the way the voice & the delivery fits the music (I have always felt that) more so than some perfect operatic abilities.....congrats my friend...this is friggin great in this ol boys opinion...fantastic job on the lyrics...and the accompaniament follows the Floyd concepp with the chord progs.......bravo.....we`ll do another one some time this year if I have anything to do with it....just gotta find some time over here at my place later on.....Ed
well...I always know its going to be good when I hit play on this band M...and I am never wrong....interesting combination with the two very different voices (I have an R&B track using Farisha`s pella but have never posted it)...this is, as always top class music performed by top class musicians...always an enjoyable listen...Ed
I`ve been listening to several of your tracks on my MP3 player the last while Steve (Dust & Bones, Solitare, Forgetting You)...so just had to stop by & see/hear what you`ve been up to lately...Glad I did...guess I somehow missed this one ...Must say you use some of the most tasty chord progs I ever hear in much of your music...Lots of power in this one, but you always seem to get a great combination of instrument clarity, catchy melodies and beautiful clean mixes...Great job by you and Behnam on this one....You have a big fan up this side of the planet....keep on & I`ll keep tuning in.....Ed
Nice to see this one getting some attention TG...I know I commented before...but I was thinking that all that snow & winter storms you guys have been getting down your way must be keeping a lot of folks homebound...good time to do some more music...I have a brother down in your Prov.and I think his place is pretty much burried......I would help you shovel, but my chiropractor is already getting rich by my just trying to keep the driveway clear here...keep on & all the best...Ed
Yep..been digging for days now, that's just around the house
drifts up over, all the windows and doors...MF'er...
Driveway my boy comes by with his Tractor Blower, 300ft driveway
wouldn't even think of doing that...
But he can't get close to the house, wish he could...
Got a few big young guys, down the road they got girls friends
and need money, if we get anymore they'll have the money... :-)
Then your brother knows how I feel...Cause I feel his pain..
very cool domr...very nice stereo effect on the organ..I have never done a raggae track myself althought I have listened to several raggae songs (Bob Marley and others ) that I like...this is very well done...It often seems like a happy music genre to me...this is a nice happy listening piece of music...we could use more of that....good job.....Ed
