Cool combination of sounds that are uplifting and positive sounding. Sounds like music for a commercial or a film. Interesting intro, like it. Well done, neat idea!

Thanks Wayne! I agree with you this could really be used in a commercial or a film, which was my exact intentions for this track.

Thanks for stopping by, have a good one :)

on 1981 featuring MStokes by deciBel
MichaelStokes has been reviewing my songs since day one and probably most people's tracks since the day he joined. He literally has thousands of reviews and most are uniquely thought out comments. I have downloaded more of his songs than anyone's tracks on the loop, to give you some indication of how much I like his music. Much respect for this track and to you as well Benham.

The track is hauntingly beautiful and painful at times. I listened to this a few times, it's emotional. I like the guitars, there is a certain tone to them I cannot recognize.

Everyone takes time off from the loop for one reason or another. One guy just came back here after spending a few years in jail. It's good that people are missed and recognized for their input and for the genuine character they are. Hope you both are able to rejoin us here at looperman at your full capacities soon!

Well done both of you!

Sorry I missed this one when it came out, must have been all those porters and whiskeys!

Keep up the singing, you keep getting more innovative and unique. The lyrics are well written and very cool and fun to read.

The music is well produced and with the vocals make a rather upbeat, quirky, fun, interesting, awesome.... Whatever you are doing, keep doing it. Great track and I will be dl'ing this one so thanks so much for sharing!

Hey buddy, thanks for listening and commenting! I appreciate the compliments on the singing, means a lot to me! Interesting that you you found it quirky and fun... that's part of what I like about industrial stuff, it's open to interpretation. I've got more ideas, so there will be more to come! Thanks for Dl'ing! Hope all is well!

on Sweetest Sin by Mosaic
Great job doing a rock track my friend! I like the guitar sound and the vocals, they work pretty good together. There are times it gets a little trippy like when the guitar lead rolls and the song quiets down and the girl sings. Reminds me a bit of the Doors Robbie Krieger guitar in the song The End at times.

I like the open feel of the song, lots of space. There is a cool bluesy feel going on here with nice changes throughout. Working with vocals opens up some new challenges as far as mixing. I know you have used vocal samples before but mixing in a whole track is different. Listened on my headphones and the vocals sounded good in the mix.

Dig the track dude! Keep challenging yourself, you will never know what you can do unless you try. Look forward to hearing some new songs!

Hey Wayne

Thank you for the feedback and the review, must say did enjoy doing this one, while taking a short break from trance, currently working on a acoustic type of rock track, it is more laid back then this one, more like a chill out track, plus also start a few different styles...Thought working with vocals would be a bit hard but found them fairly straight forward, suppose if you have the right vocals makes it easier...Thank for the fav too mate...Peace n Respect...Mosaic....Listening to your piece I reviewed other day...Still stand by what I said about it being my fav of yours...Excellent track....

Always loved this song and this band. I like your version, a bit more to the jazz/lounge side of things but I love lounge music. I thought about singing and found the lyrics and tried to sing along but there are too many high spots I can't hit. They had great singing and harmonies on their songs. I hope you find someone, I'm sure someone will jump on this.

Nice one!

Thanks allot, Wayne. Nothing beats the original, so didn't want to try to duplicate it, so with the help of Franco, it turned out a bit jazzier.

Sorry it's a bit high for you. Would have liked to have you aboard. Usually vocal requests are unsuccessful, so doubt we'll get any takers.

Cheers,

on Track 50 by FreeRadical
Have you ever been a dj or done any dj'ing? Just wondering because of the mixing different beats you do. The transitions are well done and each part sounds a bit different from one another but there seems to be an underlying feel to it all. Were you able to get those synths running on your comp?

I find if you delete a handful at a time it's easier rather than 1 at a time. Either that or upload 500 loops this week and get some bonus tracks. hehe

Well done!

Wayne

FreeRadical replied 6th May 2014 - 11 years ago
Never been a DJ. Used to hang around with a lot of them in my 20's but i was always much more interested in creating the tracks.
I guess i should take it up really as all i seem to do these days is muck about with loops.
I did get those synths running in the end and they're really bloody good (But i only used one right at the end of this track, the rest was all loops and one shots)
Yeah, i should upload some loops really. I did plenty as Nick Q but FreeRadical has so far contributed a grand total of zero.
I might even make some right now.
Cheers for dropping in.

on Random Acts Of Human Kindness by StaticNomad
Kinda trippy and laid back blues. Lots of effects. The first few seconds of the intro reminds me of a Godfathers intro on one of there tracks but I can't think of which one off hand. What make of bass and electric guitar do you use?

To me some of the best guitar solos are ones that feel the music and play to the groove. An old timer musician once said to me "play the music". He didn't mean just play your part, he meant play along side the music, feel it out and add to it rather than over play and showcase your talents on every part you play. I think you did that here and most of the time for that matter.

I like it, shorter always works for me but in this case I am looking forward to hearing more. Like the splashes of the resonator guitar, damn that's such a cool sound.

Wayne
StaticNomad
StaticNomad replied 6th May 2014 - 11 years ago
Greetings. Very laid back blues and first proper deep shuffle blues I've done.

Not really that many effects. Not sure if you mean on guitar. Mostly just delay, reverb, a little distortion - nothing unusual.

Not sure who Godfathers are. A band, I guess.

My bass is a Vintage 5-string (can't remember the model) though I rarely play it so I'm not very good anymore. Used to be much better in teen years when that's mostly all I played. Little practice these days means no stamina in left or right hand and picking fingers get blisters so easily.

But there's some nice bas guitar in this track.

Main guitar is still the first I ever bought (in 1996) and it's small and light and comfortable and cheap. It's the Epiphone Les Paul Special II (Vintage Sunburst). I also use a Variax but don't like it much and find it hard to play but it still pops up in my tracks.

Main resonator is the Ozark 3515bte and other one (that I don't like) is a Republic Resolian Steel Antique Brass.

You confused me by saying you enjoyed the resonator on here as there is none! The splashes you heard must be the sitar bits during the second half solo. Can't think what else you could mistake for resonator. I almost always say I track description if its in the track.

I do my best to feel the music and play to the groove rather than just widdle about all over the place. This is a wonderful groove for laidback playing and even more so in the later parts (that you haven't heard) when it appears to pick up pace and get more insistent.

I could do blues playing over this type of groove all day. Comes very naturally.

I hope you noticed that the drums are mostly just the EZ Americana kit. If not, you will now!

Good to hear you want to hear more. These 4 mins are really just an intro..

A pepper mill.... I like it, creative for sure. There is something about a vocal and an acoustic guitar that works for me, especially when it is as beautiful as this song. Gave this one a few listens, love the lyrics. The chorus is great, nice change. Simple and beautiful, thanks, glad to have you back!

Hi Wayne and thx a lot for your warm review on that humble cover.
I discovered Woodkid recently (they're French :p) and was so moved by their video clip that I tried the song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQu8FOjJXdI

"Today I will tell you the story of a man who drowned in the cold waters of the ocean after losing the one he loved. This is the story of a man who died twice." is the translation of the priest's words in Russian.

There are songs that become unforgettable and will always convey a special feeling or memory.

Although awkward, I put a lot of heart in that cover and I'm very glad you liked it, Wayne.
Merci for your time and attention,
Peace

on Psychogenic Sammich by Spivkurl
I've never had a psychogenic sammich until now but it was tasty! It has the signature Spivkurl sound but it sounds like something you are releasing on your new disc, your new sound so to speak. It is a little dark and almost cinematic, a bit angry and confused at times. Guess that's where the psychogenic part comes in, lol. It's a crap shoot what genre to put this in, maybe industrial or maybe you are right with fusion. Either way it wasn't the usual music my ears are used to hearing.

Well done Spiv!

Thank you for being the first to listen! I always appreciate your reviews! I didn't even think about cinematic, I guess you have a point there. The psychogenic part was kind of funny, as the word just popped into my head, I didn't remember where I had heard it before, but I looked it up and it seemed to fit... something which is manifested by the mind, and not physiological. The sammich is between me and Spivkurl...heh. Interesting that you hear industrial with this, I guess I just can't avoid industrial ha ha. Thanks again my friend!

on Just Another Day by Cestevens1783
I like music like this, a bit whimsical and fun. The short breaths or effect that sounds like that starts around 25 seconds is cool. Maybe for some additional vocals you could do some more vocal sounds like that. Maybe some scat type sounds, short vocal noises or phrases rather than singing full lines. Just my 2 cents.

Trippy rock but with driving Stuart Copeland drums. I must say the drums are outstanding. Damn man, you are a freekin' good guitar player, it's got a meaty tone and great attack. Real cool changes, as expected.

Wait a minute...holding it in.....exhale, cough, cough, lol. What a cool psychedelic trip, goes good so close to earth day and all.

Are you using a resonator guitar here? Sounds like one with some effects on it. I may have to ask you for a track or two sometime, I love the sound of them.

I must say it's well put together and interesting. Always a pleasure!

Yo. I'm a big fan of Stewart Copeland, but mostly for his playing in The Police (great band). I'm aware of his TV and film and other work but haven't heard much of it.

I'm surprised by the comparison as I didn't think he played this loud or with as much double kick. Or with blastbeats.

Killer drumming in this is mostly thanks to Superior Drummer and the excellent kits and great performance MIDI files. My skill is in arranging those drum parts and layering them and choosing kits and when playing moves from one to the next to provide the drum variety I like to have in most, if not all, of my tracks.

I'm a good and slightly unusual guitarist but only add the 'freekin' good' through careful editing together of the best takes in my loop recording guitar jam sessions.

See my reply to Extraball for more details on my guitar cheating. Not as good a player as I sound on record!

"goes good so close to earth day and all"

That's odd. Not sure what this might have to do with that environmental protection celebration day. But cool if it trips you out. Maybe 'psychedelic grunge' is the best simple genre name for this.

Yes, slide resonator guitar is kind of my speciality and it features a lot on my many tracks. I'll play it over metal, blues, electro, funk, whatever. Lots of shorter touches of it here to provide unusual variety (clean guitar sounds over heavy ones is odd) but no proper solo. There isn't a proper solo in this - it's just riff, riff and strange textures all the way.

Lots of slide in my track Debt Black Hole, which is a favourite of yours.

My greatest chillout blues slide resonator track:

Slide jazz. The main bassline is slide resonator and there are other slide bits at various points.

Electro slide blues.

Cutup slide blues drone grunge weirdness.
