Pretty cool, and definitely minimal. I like the actual bass better than the sample about "bass in your face." Enjoyable listen to my ears. I guess I think the percussion has plenty of high end to it, I'm guessing that this is just not as volume boosted as most people are used to. For some reason people don't like to just turn a song up any more, like it's too much work or something... they want it loud to begin with. Oh well. Cool as heck outro! Nicely done!
Very interesting interpretation of these vocal parts! I agree it could be a good introduction to a track or bridge between two tracks on an album. Reminds me of what Alex(promenade) could be achieving with some more tonal enhancement and mastering. (not important, just listened to one of his songs so it was in my mind) Very trippy vibe to my ears. Had fun listening. Well played!
Hi Spiv, thanks for the comment.
I find it interesting (and I am honored) that you compared this track to Alex's work: he is one of the musicians here I admire and respect. So I consider a kind of "appraisal".
Thanks again!
Ciao, Domenico
"Does 'rock' mean only fast and loud?" ha ha, that's pretty much what I thought when reading the comment by SN! I grew up on mellow groovy psychedelic rock like this. Reminds me of some earlier live recordings from the likes of the doors or zeppelin and similar groups. Nothing wrong with that. I really wish you were more open to the possibilities of digital processing, as your songs could be taken to a very different level. I know you are going for specific vibe though, so I won't obsess over it... :) I enjoyed listening!
haha. yes there's some literal quotation here from one of your earlier comments on my other 'rock' track. sorry for not giving you the full credits! I really liked that comment. haha. but seriously I only tried something new here - my 'drumwork' here was inspired by SN but I do not think I was going intentionally for any specific 'classic rock' sound-image (I like that 'sound-image' term). there's some long, quasi-melodic delays and it is about 86 bpm and eb flat minor...
thanks a lot for your nice comment and listening to my music. A.
Very unique and enjoyable to hear! Pleasing sounds and mix. This sounds deceptively minimal, if you get my drift. I like that in a song! Sounding great it my headphones this morning. Extremely euphoric melodies in here, you should be proud. Big fave!
mmm tasty! I like the dynamic vibe of the mix, and the vocal recording has a cool crisp feel. Interesting downtempo style! Nice sound effects scattered in the too. Good jazzy break later in the track. Dig it man! fave!
Well, this is better than I could do with the funktastic samples for sure. The quick changes are a bit hard on my brain, but I hear what you were going for. I started working with those samples, but found them FAR too effects wet for my tastes, and scrapped it. Definitely a jazzy experimental journey to the fusion realm! Fun to hear!
Thank you! Yes, it is just a compilation of loops from the contest but the idea here was to make some jazz-funk fusion journey using also the best instrumental loops from the site. You're right about very quick stylistical changes but if you listen closely you might see that I tried to find some connections. There are some samples playing much longer phrases than 4 bars, it is a real glue for this song.
I agree with the effects on loops, I didn't like them also but in such a short time I had for make this track I didn't notice them even. Just trying to turn the single loops/samples/sounds into a coherent track.
Thanks again for listening!
Hey buddy! Really despise xmas in most every way possible, so it's cool to hear a deep punk sort of xmas conglomeration. Far better than what I was doing 20 years ago! You rock!
Thanks a lot for your friendly words about this little track Spivkurl.
:) We had a lot of fun makeing it. And it was recorded in parts in Padaborn and at my hometown. Never more then 2 "worked" together at the same time. But it is still some of my personal most loved song to xmas time ....
If you like to know how it sounded when it mostly realy began, then you should follow this link. It brings you 30 years back in time. My/our real first band - the tacktless once/die Tacktlosen - in a shed somewhere deep in the german north. Let it be the 3rd time we 3 played together, maybe it was the 2nd. You will hear a song about a guy, with black shoes, black glasses, black gloves, on his way to "his" girl, cause she cant see his black shoes ......
very raw, but very cool stuff and realy 30 years old.
If you scroll thw side down you will find 3 more -tacktless ones/tacktlosen- songs ...maybe 29 years old :)
And btw, i dont believe that you did it realy bader then me or i better then you - we all just do - and i just tryed to do music so the way, i had the most fun. Fun is a good power for good things like good music :)
Refreshing to click on a "garage" song, which isn't some kind of crap dance/dubstep conglomeration, but real garage rock. I honestly expected to see something newer on your page, but it is nice that your comment wasn't just fishing for comments on your latest track like is so common. All of these short ideas are pleasing in different ways. Of course the recording/tone on each is a little different, and some I like better than others. I like the crisp tone of the last section a lot. Would definitely be more enjoyable if it wasn't panned all the way right, but in both speakers... doesn't have to be stereo, just cetered mono. You have a cool style of playing that I enjoy. Nice old recording, thank you for sharing!
Well, firstly, the autotuned dance pop thing is not my listening preference, but I can appreciate the talent which went into putting this one together. I would have to agree with EpicRecord regarding the stereo field, things seem a bit cramped especially in the intro. After the intro I got the distinct impression that everything was a bit "left heavy" if you know what I mean. The strings later in the track had a decent stereo spread. I think the stereo effects on those vocals were pretty wet for this style of music, and you might have more luck with a more centered vocal vibe. There is the chance that those effects were present in the vocal pella, and if that's the case then don't listen to me! As the song progressed, I began to enjoy it more though, so with a little love this could be a winner! Nice work so far!
Thank you for taking the time Spiv. I am trying to get this "cramped" stuff worked out. I've also got a female vocalist working on adding her vocals on top of this. This may be what I need to drop some of that background noise.
I will keep you posted. And as always - thanks for the feedback.
Well, it's interesting to say the least. I guess I'm not at all fond of the vocal effects. To me this sounds a lot more like borderline rap/hip hop, but there's nothing wrong with that. Found your "1:07 minutes too long" comment quite amusing. I see what you mean, but it could definitely be taken to another level with some more work. Good job so far!
Hey buddy! It's good to hear this WIP on looperman! I think you have some really cool concepts in this one. Apologies that I have not gotten to contribute to it as of yet. Hope to find some time today. You asked about the stereo/mono thing, and I guess I'll start by interpreting how I hear this one. Within, I definitely hear effects which are stereo in nature, and possibly stereo samples or synths (though I can't say for sure because of the effects). Beyond that, there is very little actual placement (panning) within the mix, which is I think where your question comes from. Even if you've used a stereo sound or plugin, everything will seem very centered. That doesn't mean it's mono, but I also wouldn't consider it a finished mix. With just this one track, that's all I can really say, and I realize it is "in progress" so don't take it too seriously. I will try to send you some contributions by the weekend! Great work so far.
i'm glad you had a chance to hear this version Pat. It was the first one to place the elements about where I want them. now, as you point out, the devil is in getting a final mix to be happy with. thanks. Dan
They don't call you digitalmusicmaniac for nothing! This does sound very digital to me. That's okay I guess. I think that the actual sounds could be perfected while keeping the overall composition intact. Like vary the envelopes of the amplitude or cutoff a bit maybe? I do appreciate the use of the fusion style for fusions of different sorts of genres. On the other hand, I think of "trap" as a fusion of dubstep and hip hop on it's own... so it seems a bit silly. ;) I'm enjoying the last section very much, things get very cohesive and direct there! Interesting listen!
Hey thanks for the comment Spiv and giving this a ear! And much thanks for the compliment. Yeah towards the end that's my favorite bit too. Thanks again my friend! ^__^
Hey, this sounds pretty cool. Not exactly my favorite style of music, but I can still appreciate it. I liked it quite a bit soon after the break especially. I think the intro sounded a little cramped and messy. By that, I mean the vocalish sound and the lead synth were really fighting for space and interfering with each other. They seemed a bit out of time as well. Mostly throughout, everything besides the high hats and that little drum hit in the left seemed to be flowing at me right from the center. A bit more planned separation might help. I thought that this was a cool theme though, and enjoyed listening!
Thanks Spivkurl! I'm not hearing all of what you've pointed out, but I appreciate your input. Maybe this type of track just doesn't suit your taste and that's fine, but a lot of the things you stated is what makes this track work, imo.
Even though you don't really enjoy this style, you sat all the way through it and that's what counts. Thanks for stopping by, take care!
Hey, this is pretty groovy! I like the guitar work very much! Is that a keyboard solo around 2:45 or so? Wasn't fond of the actual patch used on that part, though the playing was awesome. Very dynamic jamming all around. Has lots to love!
Thanks Glad you like the Guitars...
Well the soloI did a while ago, not being a good keyboard player
I gave it a shot...I think it may not be my best solo, but I don't
mind it...At this point the song done, as far as I'm concerned so
be it as it may, that's the way it's going to stay...
Hey, I'm enjoying this one! Really found the minimal groove to be intoxicating around 2:10 or so, those drums were nice and punchy. I'm guessing that maybe you were going for a very quiet low end in most parts... I won't judge you for that, as the parts that do have more bass have a lot of impact comparatively. The vocals aren't really my cup of espresso, but I like that you've used them in an inventive way. Fine work!
Pretty cool little groove here. I like the basic synth and drum theme you've created here. I think the funky bass thing around the 2 min and 2:45 mark could definitely be changed to something more suited to the track. I like the subtle piano part late in the track, gives a nice variation. Could probably afford to make the high frequencies a bit more gentle, but that's just personal preference. Nice song!
Much appreciated man! I am glad you liked what I made. The bass arp is very funny. It's the most talked about thing in the track. Very few like it, while others weren't really feeling it. I suppose I'll edit it someone one day. Same for some other adjustments. Thanks again!
Hey, this is fun to hear! I don't think of this as a brick waveform. I downloaded it to check in an audio editor, and there is only subtle clipping in a couple places. I think the mastering *level* is pretty close to good. The problems people are hearing may be due to clashing effects, or effects on the master channel that or too "wet" in their mix. Just what I thought of when listening. I like it a lot though. Has fun 15 years ago sound about it. Nicely done!
Hi Spiv!
You are right about the brick form, it could be worse! I guess the mastering level is due to the audio effect device I placed in the master channel - it worked wonders. But I probably should tweak it somehow to get rid of the small clipping and also simply turn the volume down a bit before rendering. There is a wet effect here and there which you could hear and I agree about it being too wet. I failed with the automation but am going to look into it some more later.
Thanks for checking the levels in your audio editor!!
15 years ago sound!
Ha ha ha, I like that. I actally think this is the closest I've come so far to make a track sound the way I like it to sound. This is my ultimate taste in music. And it's sounding really old! =D
Thanks for listening and for all the feedback.
Cheers!
Hey buddy, this is interesting for sure. I guess I've read the few comments, and I think I'm still hearing a sour interval or two between notes of the bass and whatever the synth is. I think the timing and arrangement is cool, and it's got your signature all over the mix. Some more expressive sounds would really take the progression to the next level. Enjoyed listening!
90 BPM trance? Now that is something I don't believe I have heard before! I wanted to get past the long intro before I passed any sort of judgement. I guess I would call this trance in a way, but more in between ambient and tribal trance. I think it would be good at a faster pace, but at the same time you have some double time elements which give it a good momentum. Normally I would just think of this as ambient, but it is the sort of trance that someone who is going into a trance may appreciate, and not the pop uptempo EDM stuff. I like it! Well done! Fave!
Thankyou for your comment. I try to steer clear of pop Trance simply because mine sounds a bit naff lol Ive changed this track already I'm putting more feeling into the later part of the track to give it a more trippy sound, the double time elements are to stop arm chair dancers and hopefully get them to tap a foot too lol. But thankyou for your kind constructive comments. one ironic thing I lived in Rochester UK and your in rochester USA, Listened to some of your tracks and you got some serious stuff going mate. keep it up and catch ya soon
After I make a comment here, I'm going to download it just to check it in an audio editor... because my guess is that your mp3 is full of clipping throughout. I know it's hardcore and all, but it seems pushed really far. The parts with less going on, like just bass and drum are very cool... but when there are synths going on, things are so compressed and muddy (and my guess is clipping) that you can hardly enjoy the synths. Okay, around the three minute mark, the synth is pretty audible, so that's good. Nice drop there. I do love hardcore in general, and I can appreciate what you've done here!
Been working on a house sort of track in the last day or two, so I was happy to find house on your page! It really isn't a big favorite for me as far as genres go, but I can appreciate what it has to offer. You've built up a pretty dynamic mix here, with the dips and peaks and all. This is a fun one to hear, and I guess it would probably be good in a club. Great work!
Sorry I'm a bit late to reply. I don't recall hearing any house tracks by you so I'll be very interested to hear that turns out, should be good!
Also thanks for your kind words. I'm glad you said "I guess it would probably be good in a club". I'm not convinced that this particular song is club-worthy, but since I started working on this track I've been trying my best to make something that I wouldn't be embarrassed to play in a club so to have someone say that is very encouraging.
This is an enjoyable listen! I like the style of the mix very much. The subtle percussion elements add a lot, and make for a nice groove. Interesting vocal sounding loop in there as well. It's not the sort of music that I listen to a lot, but I'm having fun hearing it this morning. The string part around 4:00 sounds very nice to my ears. I understand what StaticNomad was saying about the transition at 5:11, it is very abrupt. It might be nice if some of the previous parts had a nice delay on them so they bleed into the drum break or something. Thanks for sharing this!
Well, I came back in reply to your reply and comment on my track. I guess upon listening again, I will try to be more clear regarding the high hats. What I meant about the crispness was regarding comparison to the rest of the mix. The hats seem like the loudest part of the mix, with the most "presence." The seem to make the other drums sound very distant, while at the same time masking some of the guitar frequencies. I realize this is an unmastered track, but I can't help but think that mastering would be more successful if the balance was enhanced. I also realize that this is funk, and that is often very punchy in the high frequencies. Don't worry about my opinions too much, as funk is not my genre of choice by any means, and my ears are obviously very strange when it comes to drums and percussion... Just ask StaticNomad...heh. Thank you for your reply!
Hey, really groovy sounding stuff here! Love the guitar tones very much! "I won't quit" sounds like me when talking about tobacco... heh. The high hat part is very crisp, maybe too much so, but who am I to judge? Having a lot of fun listening! Seems like someone around has made a bit of a funk craze happen. Good work!
Thanks...Man

And the drums are a little top heavy all together, I didn't

So I figure if and when I do that, I'll knock the top off a bit
