yah
really cool minor movement on this...

it's sampled in such a way that is really great...

I would add a hint of reverb to the drums.. plate.. in my opinion..

i love how open it is to my mind... it has ultimate possibilities.

you got something good.

sounds like how i feel!
lol

I enjoy the textures! they feel more than a bit abrupt.

Some space between the elements , implementing them in a way that ... speaks.. more so than for "production" value, woulda been nice.

It's really got arrangement down.. but this song needs more "segue" into each part? to be more effective "emotionally" as a piece of art.

keep it up!
this is some really well produced mixing!

ps.. fer example.. the only real "fades" i heard where on the outros... just keeping it real

it's odd to me how you are always in there Dave!

You definitely speak in volumes!

Is this in the Key of Black and White???
lol

this is Jazz for a new generation in someways!

I did hear something going on-- IN whole notes over this in my head which would have opened up the feeling --- at least in my mind. Just my opinion

Despite my criticism, the break was ENOUGH for me to fall in love with the track.
all in ten minutes!

You like any Squarepusher? You would LOOOOOVE squarepusher Dave.
seriously. Check him out, if you haven't.

(seriously, what key is this in?-- I love it, it's like a digital chameleon???)

Hey Abe..good question! lol..I'm sure in an expanded and scrutinized version a more repetitive key signature would emerge..I'm dabbling in Fsharp and A with a lot of flats thrown in...In these free form sessions I suppose I'm more concerned with timing..but I like to get the apparition of unexpected chords within the music by trying to play fifths in conjunction to what I'm hearing...in these sort of things I'm winging it..which I suppose in some ways is necessary if you want to fly..lol..ps...I'll definitely be checking out squarepusher..cheers mate :)

on Fuzzy No-No's. by JackRipper
Perhaps I could agree with BeyoundEvolution...

The one thing that comes to mind.. is perhaps allowing the music "to breathe" a little more?
But then again, I kinda like the onslaught of digital. Translates a strange paradoxical feeling ... organic and completely in-organic.

Also, I have to add, it's a bit like frying on Acid.
Great break btw!
Perhaps a gated crash cymbal on the down beats would make it more of a knee stomper/kneck breaker?

either way
I would give you a bottle of wine, two twinkies (in UN-opened packaging), 4 quarters, and 17 unburnt CD-R's for a disc with some album art.
fer real
:)

JackRipper replied Unknown
LOL, Abe youre a nut!!Throw in some bacon flavored cheese whiz and you got yourself a deal.. Thanks though man. When you say breathe, a paddy type breakdown comes to my mind, and maybe a different arrangement of the sections/riffs.. i dunno man. Any how purple must go on!

DD2?

I think you can get it still.
I am a gear whore at heart..
I can't even part with my guitars.. most of them are thrashed too.

To me..
to be honest
delay.. it's like disobeying time.
And I enjoy that about delay...
It allows this moment to become a "call" and a "response" in the most primitive way.

I can't even count on my brain, how often I have used delay to substitute/accommodate the littlest of little aspects of my music. It's a BAD ASS effect! lol

This reminds me, i need to check yer gallery!!!
arghhhh!

Hmnn...
I do feel
that ... this is not complete... It's missing too much to be... well
no
I retract that statement
it is complete
but
I need something to latch onto...
The amphibian part of me is too asleep to agree!

This was just an experiment, and from a collection of three solo pieces I tried at the time that I called "Nano-onaN". Though better than a "toss-off", it's not a song. Very incomplete - BUT a great example of how inherently psychedelic "primitive" instruments can be. Even without delay, my impulse is to play it in a way that imitates delay.

Now it's a temporary "listen and tell."

The best geng gong stuff I did was with my spouse in public performances. We'd play face to face sharing the same mic (no delay but with a gate). My favorite was a review of a bit we did at the Seattle Improvisational Dance and Music Festival one year. The guy said that he "kept blushing. The sounds and their proximity was just too intimate. I felt like a voyeur watching something more than sex." Nice one, huh?

on Factory Gnome Midnight Party by n0mad23
oh

lol

figures..

The depth with panning.. delay that you utilize...
there is something goin' on in your head.. that I don't think a lotta people could even grasp..

Again...
I need it to be said to me.

Like.. .. how could I explain

it's like seeing symbols but .. not correctly understanding the symbolism.

I think I do.. "But.. Do I?"

It has elements.. (to me) of staring fear in the eyes.
The listless taste of ... indignation
the joy of victory, but... a sense of ... doom

all through the kaleidoscope of music
it's very well done..
something in me still secretly wishes
that it transferred from the musical psychedelia, into HARD rhythms and grinding grooves..
lol

would buy your CD if you supplied some cool liner notes

Yes, you would be the one that gets it! The language choices - uncanny! My instrumental nonverbal ballad about the Language Elves. I'll write you about the provocative stuff, but your last comment/critique - this is the hard limitation of iamthemightyjungulator. Very, very limited platform that can only be played as an instrument. One shot - get it right with a max of 6 loops. No vst effects, no sends, nothing. It's too bad, too as it's got serious potential. I'm thinking that I owe M. Oden a huge dept of thanks as I wouldn't have pursued this type of music at all hadn't that program been so much fun to play with.

The sunlight spotting thru the trees...
Rain falling softly from the leaves..
The hunted and the hunter!

Very cool and interresting textures that groove into pure smooth time!

I have a good feeling about the track!
I can't wait to hear the tunes that you will have in the future!

I would like to hear a mix with some elements cutting out, and an EVEN more .... "darker" jungle would sound COOL too!
In my "musical-minds-eye" I picture some cool contrast with some more industrial sounds.. and then a mix with an acoustic soundfeel too...
The ability of this track too me make me think about the creative process, makes this an INCREDIBLE track in the first place.

It is kinda... a decentralized... techno ethnic ambient song... of the FINEST quality.

I would buy your CD if you included some art in the packaging
:P

Dude,--- Vocals on this(???)... that would be a FULL production with the right lyrics and singing on top!?
Love it.

Abe - I love your reviews, not only of my tracks but the others, too! I love stepping outside myself and "seeing" through your eyes. Your comments are all spot on, and I think my Definitive Pope < 3 min. piece will have to be one version. There's going to have to be the Dance version, the extended Ambient version, and the dark belly of the Black Widow version (a frightening beauty). I'm kicking around lyrics for it right now, and will send you some drafts when it's time. Thanks for your encouragement - it means a lot.

on When The Boat Comes In by Planetjazzbass
hey dave...

i had heard this song months ago, and... i liked it...
but bass was soo powerful.

and the compression was ... almost too sharp.. post edit**NOT TOO sharp.. but less threshold

and. this is a song of joy. something that i naturally don't feel aligned with often. but i really do LOVE the changing keys and pace.

i ... don't want you to take this ... baddly.. but let the music speak? let it have a moment DURING your playing to draw emotion?.

i still love it!

edit
Try and speak with your mouth, a statement with you bass in your hands, and record a solo style thing there??? ... for me?

Hey Abe...I hear you man...that's one of the best reviews I've ever received..I think a lot of what your talking about is the true actual fundamentals of good music..clearly when I created this piece I had a vision of what I wanted but in the application of it...it fell down in a few critical areas..I put it down to at that stage not being totally up to speed with my recording software and techniques...so rather than delivering a piece that breathes..it got cobbled together..I think I've reached the stage now where I'm a lot more aware of this...and there's more light and shade in my work....and please whenever you think I might take something badly..go in even harder!..I'm totally aware that music is a learning process..man sometimes I feel like I'm still on the first page!...cheers buddy..Dave :)

wow...

i am really... thinking.. about... that... moment...

i remember... not being able to look myself in my eyes...

but.. i love.. how you have framed this!
it.. makes my little.. sadness. my negative inertia.. my pure distaste for my body, my life, and my mind, seem.. inconsequential to the great depression of many.

I love it.
wow... this is one of those moments i won't forget.

wow

*post edit*
ok, i have to be real with you.
these are some of my production points.. the song is AMAZING

This is AMAZING.
but, i want to add, my pella may be flat? or is the composition sharp a little? you can adjust that with some automation?

also.. I think some velocity sensitivity on the piano would draw more emotion out of the Pianos. Add a room reverb to it!!

Great MIXING. Unusual and Fantastic arrangement.

I wish I could sing it better for you now.. but there is no way. I am not that man anymore.
I love it.
Steevo
Steevo replied Unknown
Thanks for listening, there pitch problems, but I kinda reckon they don't take too much away as the vocal has a dischordant feel that fits the track, but the pitch issues where not deliberate, and would probably be easier on the ear if fixed.
Glad you like the mixing cos I gotta say, some time was spent on that element, and some good advice was passsed to me by SuperClutz (Thanks)
to add some background (Crickets were suggested but ony had brids and dogs so had to make do LOL).
Really worked tho, cos it took the whole thing outside. Pleased with the end result.

Stay well.

on Charm On by Lux Divon by bosonHavoc
Dude..

i remember seeing this when it was fathers day, and .. i am really bad about fathers... (think cigarette burns and buddhism and alcoholism)

Soo.. naturally, i was very turned off about .. someone preaching about ... their father.. IN fact.. it makes me think about God. And mortality. Time.. Time.. Time......

The song.. It makes me think about .. deserts, and evergreens... The pines.. when I would listen to Bach in my dad's volvo in the middle of the mountains. And i fucking hated his guts. Interresting lol... Perhaps later, when I listen on my iPod, I will have a different perspective...

I think it funny, how,... to me.. i can draw my own rationalization of what this music means.. hearing the lovely IMPECCABLE voice, (it must drive you nuts just watching her sing) and the perfect mix that you laid out.

I really commend you. Your music is Amazing. With Lux Divon or not.

I hope someday I can shake your hand.

on Leon Bolier - Ye Remix by Avail
i hear glitchyness??

thanks again for pointing out Leon Bolier to me, it's fantastic music. damn those dutch with their awesome raves lol

to be completely honest, the baseline works and it doesn't...
at the break, it really takes new life, and i really really enjoyed the build.
the baseline felt more effective at that encompassing fullness?
but at the first part, ... i almost want to suggest that the baseline be a little bit more sedate?...
then again, the whole musical piece is damn good.

the arpeggio from left field at 4 minute-ish area was really cool!

Awesome dude, you are becoming an artist, it's pretty cool to see how you have grown over the year

Avail replied Unknown
Glitch the drums!

Yea, that guy is awesome. At least when he's solo, most of his collabo's suck.

I get what you mean about the bassline. There was some guy who reviewed this tellin me about the bassline, he knew what he was saying. Seems like he left tho :(

I wish I had gotten more creative with it, I just threw the midi bass in there. I may change the bass synth and some lil note change ups in there. The lead synth isn't that satisfying imo too. My fav part is definitely that 4ish synth.

Thanks dude.
alividlife
ahh yah!

hmn.. the bass bugs me a little.. but not in a bad way?
i would like a rounder deeper bass personally

have you tried a lower freq. bass? i noticed the "work in progress" ....
ahh

and.. this is more ... personal opinion, ... it would be cool if this transitioned into another key or soo... but.. that is refutable.. it may work, it may not.. just my opinion

solid mix, great track!
the breakdowns are very very effective

I deffo could see the Hedgehog slamin' to this... lol

victormusic01x
victormusic01x replied Unknown
kwalaa, is just a made up word...right now it means life and always living it and not worrying about all the mundane bs around us at any given moment! the bass could be heavier, the slap bass sample reminded me a little of Bootsy Collins though, have u ever heard his funk fusion produced by Bill Laswell(Material, Axiom)..thanks for the kind words and listening man!

on Fuck You by Spivkurl
i love the tons of rhythmic stuff goin' on in this..

there is soo many rhythms... pulling and pushing

i really really wish you would put a demonic sounding pad on this kinda like ultrabase mentioned.

shoot dude.. this is the kinda track that just speaks from an artists perspective.. it don't matter what style this is considered.

"F*CK you!" indeed, something i say almost everyday
:)

oh, btw,

can you tell me a little bit about the "circuit bent" sounds??
what is that? what do you mean?
that sounds fascinating
Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied Unknown
I think this song is all about the rhythms. I never added pads or the like because at the time I was very interested in limiting my sound sources. It has been suggested that I release a single with remixes of this track, maybe I should get to work on that.

As far as circuit bending goes - it's a way of modifying electronics especially toys which makes them usable as musical instruments. I have been modifying electronics for a few years now and have lots of toys to sample and chop. You can see some of the gear that I use in my gallery here on my looperman profile. It's a great hobby, almost an obsession.

Thanks again for checkin out my tunes!

that whole talk about the 5 waveforms gets me thinking all the time...

ahem, ranting,

this track is definitely beautiful, the piano harmonizing was enough to make me favorite this.
it verges on professional work. It has this... "Listen TO ME" feeling about it.
Something i can really identify with, and truly appreciate

i just wish i had the HUGE system right now to blow fireworks up with your track as the background music.
