on I Can Manage by Spivkurl
Stop shaking the rabbit! lol

I thought about one of those things you shake and it makes noise...

Beatnik...
My favorite part of the beatnik generation was "on the road"
I think about that book all the time..
especially "into the wild" which was a modern day mythology.

This is kinda like mythology in it's self... it's like ....
...
I don't know...
lol
I love this
But I did hear a more realistic drum and sugar smoked vocals in my head..

Just my opinion..

I have an inert feeling that you and I are on complete opposites of the soundwave...
which I appreciate and love all the more..
Pleeeeease keep it up!

I love all manner of sound making toys, I guess that shows through in my tunes.

I too like "On The Road", kerouac wrote heaps of cool stuff. Do you think this song sounds "beat"?

I can see what you mean about opposites of the soundwave... maybe we're working together to fill a void... or maybe I'm just tired...

Thanks for the great review!

on All I Neeed by ReignMD
Wow, jholmes with the epic review!!
lol

One thing I noticed was how the spectrum of the sounds seem a bit deep? like.. not in a great way.
Drums are fantastic, right were they should be, definitely.
but the synth pad and the guitar feel almost hollow?
were they in stereo?
I think they would be better placed in mono functions, two tracks, with some panning techniques used?
Hmn... I don't know what it is, but the track doesnt feel "stereo-forward to me"?
That is more of a critique than criticism btw, I really dig the track.
Good stuff!
Definitely add on an ending of some sort.

I hope you choose to progress this!
ReignMD
ReignMD replied Unknown
I don't remember what exactly I did when I mixed down this track the first time, but I do agree that the synth and guitar feel a little hollow. I will definetly continue to work on this track and keep what u said in mind. thanks 4 taking the time 2 review it.

http://www.mymusictools.com/download/spectrum-analyzer/

along with abletons spectrum analyzers, you might be able to cut closer to the sound you seek?

Understanding these...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectral_analyzer

I hope that helps some?

Sounds really cool still!
:)

I would still really enjoy a melodic interval in here, which I know is a bit against your background.
You really do have something special Sean.

Can you hear my palm slapping my forehead? It was one of the first tools I played with and thought how useful it could be, then completely forgot about it as I explored other things. I'm on my way to check out the links you've provided. The melodic interval...show me? I think I need to rub the Buddha belly to grok it. Love you little Brother Abe!

on Can't Stop (MNML MIXX) by JackRipper
I love this one sir!
Remix is top notch
People should hear both of these pieces of art
https://www.looperman.com/tracks/detail/37893

I like this one more?
Does this make me a female dog? (stupid profanity filter)
hehehe, the advertisements on the left of LM right now have commercials for Jack the Ripper. the DVD, circa 1995
I wish it was your album that I would TRADE! 1 drum machine, my shitty harmony guitar, seriously I don't want it, 2 packs of flavored cigarettes, one ninja turtle figurine, 4 apples, and a F***** partridge in pear tree. ;)

Gotta love that.

on The Landlord is at the Door,He wants a Rent Cheque by bcway
what does a person have when he has nothing to lose?
nothing
but EVERYTHING they own?

heheh
I am lucky with my landlord, they live thousands of miles away and don't even know my name-- God Bless America! hehe

I really liked the end, there was an intensity that ...
was really great..
I think this would be better recieved as a piece of art if you chose to go from that point, and escalate into something bit more.. aggressive, and then into the "intro" which would be the "outro"??
of course This is a great piece of music. like art!

You are clipping pretty bad tho..
the effects are great, but they do some strange things to sound..
I wouldn't think to much about it tho.. I have more tracks to listen too, but i will definitely be looking out for you bcway!
bcway
bcway replied Unknown
Hey there, thank you for the review. You raise some points that I am still thinking about. Thanks to a thick skull ( and age [sigh] ) the thinking process is taking longer than it used to.

Anyhow, I am still a noob here ( and to engineering tracks ), I do not understand the term "clipping" as of yet.

Actually that is a very nice review you gave me.

This is the only site that has successfully taken me away from World of Warcraft. Instead of playing for 3 hours a day, that 3 hours is now spent here, review and listening, and doing tracks - much more healthy for my brain cells. I'm still gonna download porn though..LOL
alividlife
Great production value all over this!

drums on the mids and highs more pronounced?
feels a little... "off"
but
despite that criticism

this is really really great stuff!

agree with mr.sean
but I really enjoy it either way

... hmnn.. I want to be real
Ok
Drums more in the mix (mono even) minus the ethnic qualities (high point was the bridge), then bring everything up around that stereo field wise around?
So you have a more focused groove?
Panning and such is great, the vocal I like-- but it feels too prominent in my opinion .
The ending outro thingy was awesome!

I like your style!

on Where Are You by d2d
agree with Coney (minus the cowbell lol -- but that is just me- it would fit the texture) and bcway , but I hear you in there!

soo nice!

Definitely play the bass with the pointer and middle finger!
no pick
in fact, if you have a stand-up bass you should use that lol
(wishful thinking-- right? I have been listening to a lot of MUTEMATH so that may be why)

sounds are definitely defined and in the mix
drums are layered in a fantastic fashion, great job with the mic placement!

Hmn... What is that... It's like.. I want...
http://www.massenburg.com/cgi-bin/ml/vocal_overdubbing.html?id=xffYSfdQ
vocal overdubs
but then cut volumes as accordingly
i would think that mono would be the best bet (which I am sure you are aware of- so you don't have anything phasing out in the stereo spectrum)

I mean-- I like your overdubs you have!
but - if you were to do multiple takes (identically) of the same vocal -- you would perhaps get a full round sound?

Like those big production techniques
fer example, I knew a guy that worked in a studio with Alice in Chains, and Layne Stayley actually had 40 tracks of overdubs JUST for his vocals -- CAN YOU IMAGINE?!?!

I know that Butch Vig, when he produced Nirvana's Nevermind; he had to convince Kurt Cobain to do overdubbing for a more shiny sound, by telling kurt John Lennon swoooore by vocal overdubs

I dunno,
It's a fantastic beautiful piece of work.
I would love to stare at the waveform
d2d
d2d replied Unknown
First, I appreciate passing on the link to the Massenburg site & the stories. I love true stories about recording!
So are you politely suggesting I redo the vocals?
Or are you saying I should double track the lead vocal for a thicker sound?
I know you def want me to redo the bass track without a pick. I realized today I still need to master this little track, too.
Second, I greatly appreciate the depth you put into the review. This helps me improve.
Thanks a million!

on Impromptu by Avail
I love how this song has evolved Sahin.

It's hard to really say... I think you are evolving kinda.. in a way as a musician.. Opening up your presence.

I know I have sent you accolades of compliments for your work on this. It has dark elements... Bittersweetness..

Full drums that almost ... DRUM like soft spoken messages (I do wish they spoke a bit more--- Some rolls? meh??? It works fine honestly... But COULD YOU IMAGINE IF YOU HAD A SESSION DRUMMER ON THIS TRACK!!!? Awesome stuff!)

NICE breakdown btw!

I can tell you had fun... I love the final result, e-mailing you soon!

on I gotta get my money up by MidwestMeach
eeek?

i hear the dreaded distortion?

it may be my browser...

nope
hmn.. must be the sample rate at the biggining!

definitely great stuff.
It needs a .. bit of ... depth.... feels too in there.. but then again.. that may be what you are going for?
when i say that, what i mean is, that I would prefer .... personally as a listener, that the horns have a character, that is constantly changing, via effects/automation... changes...
also, the high hats triplets/1/32nds kinda stand out via panning.. there are ways to make this more fluid?

just my opinion.

this track has vibe.
favoriting

on Take It Slow by The_Acidizer
'tis pretty sweet!

you are using Acid huh?
... there has to be a way to change the complex waveform on that prog...
i use ableton...

hmnn..
wow.. you have a brilliant idea here! this is solid as they come! even in pop music standards?

but what is up with the laggy loops?

otherwise.. a really standout track!
epic looping skills all over this
almost good as eshar looping skills

damn dude... aren't we supposed to be in a band or something like that? lol
The_Acidizer

hey thanks! came up with this track in about 30 minutes lol.
i noticed one of my loops had a little lag as well, and i did my best to fix it, but can only do so much when it affects the timing.

thanks again for the great review, im glad you liked it!
