on Until your heart is beating by traz75
hello Traz

I remember listening to one of your tracks few months ago and it also must have been a loop merger for sure haha! Really nice combination here.
I like Slap's solo at 1:55, it is nicely placed. 2:43 point is interesting. There are some other sudden mood changes on the last section of the track, but overall it is very gentle and coherent composition. I like that the main theme returns finally, slowing it down at the very end was really a fine concept. Very effective.

I enjoyed listening to this one. Good work with the loops!

Best, Alex

on The Turn by Billydragon1
hello Billy

Some high quality samples you've used here, especially the drums (and some backgrounds). Also I like the concept of merging different elements in a cinematic sort of way, you're really good at it! Is that the Nirvava 'hello' from 'Smells like teen spirit' at 4:50? Haha. Also I like the processing that you always tend adding to the vocal, there is some filtering and delay in there I guess. Very cool.

I am inside the process of exploring closer the electronic territories right now. Hopefully I find some connections and will be able to produce some arrangements to your looperman acapellas because your spiritual message is somehow very familiar to me.

Congrats on the track and best to you, Alex

Hi Alex. So cool to hear form you.
Yes that was a Nirvana sample covered by someone else that i don't know.
The vocals are running through a Wah filter and also a Delay filter. Yeah the samples were carefully analysed for what could be used and chopped up then some Delay added.
Feel free to use or sample any of my poems Alex. Would love to hear what you cook up!
All the best brother. Blessings - B.

on Bounce - Original Mix by GoldenOokami
Hello Ookami.

It's good to have some new track from you. Very funky bassline, I like it a lot. Great material for a super catchy tune.

I mostly agree with all points by MrFunk.

From 1:57 there is definitely an overpower on the bass affecting hard the entire mix (see from 2:25) - maybe taking off effects and balance things would help? You may also try analysing what's really happening in the freqency spectrum throughout the track and consider. It is not to say that it is better to fix things by simply eqing them - in opposite: filtering is not that fine unless you're going for a concrete color of the recording. It is always essential to have the right sound from virtual instruments from the start as possible. That's just my opinion.

Those dry claps are quite fine to me actually but it seems like the reverb on them was somehow lost in the mix. See that each time you're adding an effect it changes the color of entire mix in one way or other, there's now way around it inside the DAW. It's quite touchy stuff and it is good to observe that sometime.

On the intro there are some clashings between strings and organ pad to me, strings are a bit too fat for my taste and played to low (I mean low range of the keyboard of course). They may benefit by getting more presence as well. Also you may try to find other strings with different/brighter sound and experiment with that a little.

Apart of all that that's a very nice effort so far. Keep up the production!

Hey man! Thanks for the feedback! The powerful bassline I have noticed is way to heavy and loud. This is because I worked on this using some earphones, where they had a much balanced sound. When using big speakers, that's completely different. I will fix that immediately.

The intro was a bit last minute for me. Before I had the fat strings, I had something much more thicker and a bit overpowering. But I'll see to it that it gets reworked. Thanks for your words! :)

on Give Me A Chance - Opinions Needed by BradoSanz
excellent track Epic.
In this arrangement I would introduce snare drum on 'bleeding out now...'. Using hi hats only on 'take a deep breath' might create more gentle transition probably as well (if is there a way to separate them of course), also you could drop that piano somewhere along the structure and change the color. When the second verse comes in it actually sounds to me like a bridge section (which is usually introduced later). It's probably because the drumming suddenly stops and there is that nice swell cymbal sound. Normally between chorus and 2nd verse there are no such dynamic changes if I remember radio songs, I might be wrong though. I think your vision is perfect anyway.
If you tighten the kick as suggested below the song may sound even more mainstream and epic, not sure what will happen with bassline then - just wondering because the balance of elements is already amazing.
Brilliant work on this one! Keep it up.

BradoSanz replied 13th Oct 2015 - 10 years ago
Thank you very much for your detailed analysis of my track, promenade :) You actually make a ton of great points. I'd like to boost the kick but I can't do so without overpowering the instruments - I say this because I can't access the old sessions because my computer is unreliable. :/ I really do appreciate your comment though, it means a lot :) Hopefully I'll be able to fix the problem soon :)

on Sweet Apple Pie and I by cellardoor
very nice effort! I really like both vocal parts, you did it very well. The instrumental will need some adjustments - especially hihats, crash cymbals, reversed cymbals and similar stuff sound a little strange with the wobbling bassline to me. let us say: it is very eclectic work but for sure there is some other way to mix it better.
Congrats on the vocal work! Alex

on Three Times Da Lady by DaCook
this is very gentle, elegant and very mellow production.
I love the slow beat and the piano is simply beautiful.

You definitely need to adjust the gain/volume on the main bus. Please compare the loudness of our track with the standard - I just turned all volume knobs up to the extreme but still can barely hear all the details of your song.

on frederick by joecramer
hello Joe

At first I thought this track simply sounds like a kind of profound confession but then I googled FB. This would be your 2nd composition with him, if I remember correctly.
I really like the space illusion in the mix and kind of funeral spiritual athmosphere (interesting choirs).

The track is definitely a combination of many different stylistical elements. Maybe you should put simply a 'religious' label on it?

Very good music and also I liked how you tell this story.

joecramer replied 12th Oct 2015 - 10 years ago
You are right Alex, this is number 2. Here i use the words that i changed in the first track to this haunted voices.

After i had this "meeting" with F.B. i couldn't stop thinking on
- How does a man feel when he had killed two persons that way and watched them die?

Aren't all dark tracks in a way religious?

In fackt i didn't think that religious would fit for this one ..... This is more "human". Bad, evil, sad and pitifully - just like (some) humans are.

Nice to hear that you like the way i done this one.

stay tuned
joe

PS: two days ago i was thinkingon and start making a religious song. But i am not sure if people will get a conection to a religious punk song :) .... we will see.
After all this scary dark things, i need some fun!

hello Joe!
There is definitely something on your track that is reminding me of Herzog's Nosferatu ha! The main theme of your track is so similar to it's opening theme http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xxqjjv_nosferatu-the-vampyre-1979-pt-1_creation I absolutely love Herzogs movies and this one in particular. You perfectly captured that very special dark athmosphere. Great vocal work and the processing!

I love this one realy much :)

I played this track over the Herzog Movie :) that sounds realy good to and you are right, this isn´t to far away from the music in the movie - same intention - same solution :)

Thanks for the nice words and the link

Thanks for the listen. I spent a looooong time looking for quality samples on freesound. This was the result :3 I just did some tricks with panning and volume control to give depth to otherwise mono recordings :P The breathing was not mine, it was also part of freesound c:

on I WALK feat SJW and Fracas Grimm by facasgrimm
yes, it is extremely nice but there is a serious problem with volume levels and vocal mixing on this track, the instrumental sounds heavy overproduced to me. honestly it is too much. at least when compared with other music posted here. I understand that this is where overall radio music is still heading these days but truly this affects too much the genuine simplicity of the spoken word message and the listening experience itself. I do not listen to the modern mainstream popular music that much btw, I always preffer live played and recorded instruments so this is just a very subjective opinion of mine. see that others pointed similar things below too.

Thank you for your listen and constructive criticism. SJW put up this track with his verses and the space at the end for collab. I just tried to do my best to not fuck it up. I had a shitty mic at the time and realize it doesnt sound so good. Again thank you.

hello Joe

this is very fine tune from you! I really like a lot the speed of it and the energy. I'd love to make my version of this tune if that's possible - it has a great potential. Are you available for collaboration on this one? I have just read comments below and I think I can try help you to get more clear mix and overall sound of this version. I still have in mind working on the 'Agent23' project that you have sent me earlier - maybe I could try those 2 ideas at some point in the very near future.

Hello Alex

Sure, lets colab onece again.
Nice to hear that you believe this version has potential.
It just started as a kind of a fun production. Just trying to make it "different" and so i "played a lot with the stems around. Mostly make them faster and or lower and didn´t care to much the quality at all :) .......
I can send you for this project almost all stems you want/need, cause i have tryed to save all i done in dry and wet waves (this dosen´t happend often)
Maybe you didn´see it and or didn´t like it but i wrote some lyrics to this one. Right now i record some more clear vocals......

Just say what you want :)

And also this Agent 23 project, i realy love this track, so i would love to hear what you will do. Same thig, if you need any, just tell me

hello Scott,
very fine latin composition! Very nice drum solo in the middle of the track and super smooth piano. Somehow I find the bass a bit too let's say 'computerized' at places - maybe applying some processing/effects could help make it sound a little warmer and 'live'. From 3:25 I can here also some kind of sound shaking, something similar to the old tape recording I guess haha.
Anyway this is very enjoyable song! Congratulations.

on Brown Heath by DanGoldstein
hi again Dan and many thanks for interesting reply. I am glad that you liked Oraison! Around 15 years ago I became totally obsessed with Messiaen when studied music. At a time I had a chance to play several of his organ works, also I still own some amount of CD recordings. I know that Kent Nagano is considered as one of the most outstanding performers of his orchestral works.

This is extremely colorful music, Messiaen developed his own musical language based on 7 modes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modes_of_limited_transposition Oraison is definitely very contemplative, it actually sounds quite similar to the most ethereal section from the organ cycle La Nativité du Seigneur (1935) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5umJQZgQvU It is very characteristic sound for his earlier works.

It takes some amount of patience to 'be with' regarding to such a long phrasing indeed but the pieces are in fact quite traditional designed melodically and harmonically and therefore very listenable in my opinion. It's a sacred music at the very core, the connection with the visuals present in Cristianity is always very prominent.

so I keep going posting links again haha hope you do not mind...
All the best greetings to you, Alex

on Brown Heath by DanGoldstein
hi Dan
the painting attached is very fine, I really like it - especially the sky textures. To me the listening experience outside looperman is always different - being detached from everyday blue and grey also many waveform-shape variations always in green and orange I can focus on the sound itself much better. But seriously the piece you composed here is interesting, fluctuating. It is reminding me of an improvised collective drumming for some reason (with nice electronic additions at places). The first part makes me think of old electonic instruments like Ondes Martenot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRJmJzWibzA or Theremin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5qf9O6c20oprobably probably because of melancholic tone of some melodies present inside that section of your track. What kind of sound engine did you use? Anyway it was very nice!
Best to you, Alex

There is a synth that is about 14 years old called 3xOsc in FL Studio. There is also the FL Studio "minisynth" that I used for a few loops. I also used an external synth that had some following back in the 1970s and 1980s by BOSS called Dr. Synth (DS-230).

Oraison is amazing. It is music for a somewhat more patient generation, I think, than ours, but the build is subtle and amazing. thanks for reminding me about Messiaen. i dated for a while the sister of a modern conductor who became quite known for his recording of messiaen. do you know the conductor Nagano?

on Resinous by Evisma
hello Evan

I really like this one a lot, your productions are always very enjoyable to listen. The vocal-drum loop from the start is interesting and makes
me want to hear some similar elements later along the track. There are fine bass riffs in here and overall I like how you envisioned the entire composition
also different guitar upper parts somewhere in the middle are fine too.
The time was divided strictly into 16ths but it is not really a funk territory (no need to be funk of course). I think you might always consider playing with dynamic of the track even more (for example by taking off instruments at parts) or create more rythmic variety - some of the passages from this track may sound overplayed and overlayered, even too busy sometimes (at least to me). Introducing different phrasing from the standard and usual 2x4 bars long 'question and answear' type of melodic work could be a nice change as well... so I am only trying to say something useful here.

I have downloaded some of your bass loops and tried to construct a new composition based on 'dark-flow-bassline-palm-mute'. It is not finished,
maybe I will sit with it again today later and eventually upload here.

Best to you,
Alex

Hello, Mr. Alex.

"makes me want to hear some similar elements later along the track"

I put it on the outro but it never sounded right. I make find more meaningless stuff to add at other points in the track.

"The time was divided strictly into 16ths"

I've never been a very groovy bassist. I struggle against the urge to lock into 8ths and 16ths. I need to work on my grooviness.

"playing with dynamic of the track"

I've also always been bad at leaving open air in tracks. I make dense shit to hide my lack of good tone and playing.

I appreciate the listen and the feedback. I did try the vocal idea. Thanks!

Evan

on Lounge About by Mokeone
hello.

this is very fine song, relaxing. to me from about 1:17 strings in the background are clashing with lower piano notes. there is no harmonic clashings of course but kind of overall mix 'overpower' happening. The sound is simply too fat (at least to me haha). It is good to somehow separate the layers to find the proper frequency range for each instrument inside the mix by equalizing instruments and analize the proper amount of reverb of them etc. That low acid bass that you are using seems to generate a kind of a distortion at places. synth melodies (from 1:56 and later along the track) are sweet and nicely played.

again overall this is very nice song but you may always consider adding drums and re-organize the material (to me there is not so much of space here regarding to the repetitive nature of this song). hope some of this is useful anyway...

I enjoyed listening. it is a favourite track of mine.
Greetings, Alex

this is extremely very simple music and kind of annoying even. howerver all lead-ins (or whatever) were far too present (evident?)- at least in my view.
Let's keep it simple: there is a kind of overall overpower of instrumental/mixing issues going on but I can't help you with this as I do not make trance or dance. Sorry to say.

I had a chance to play your recent tracks on sc and this one is no difference. I find some of your works too abstract sounding, at least harmonically. hi

Firstly I am not very knowledgeable in dubstep matters too much but overall this sounds much closer to smooth chillout or a kind of slow-step music if that makes sense.
Someone said below that drums are 'too weak'... I would rather say that there is a lack of diversity and complexity of those energetic drum patterns typical of the genre.

I enjoyed listening to this one! Good luck with your music! Keep experimenting
