Hey Alex,

Thank you so much! This is the first time I played with Harpsichord & Marimba and I enjoyed it. Looking forward to using them more often in my future tracks.

on Rock n Roll Empire by ScottB55
hi Scott. I really liked fine sounding guitars in here. I do not really get the choirs, probably it is a refference to the older rock music you mentioned... Overall a powerful piece with some very good riffs. NIce one! Alex

Hey Alex,

Many thanks for your comment. As I mentioned, I'm not an authority on metal, but I have heard some earlier stuff that had the choir. I know Gothic Metal uses choirs a good bit.

Cheers,
Scott

on Midiman007 and My03 - Versus - Alive by midiman007
wow. first time I can hear you making a dance track. the intro is interesting sounding and very chilled, I will stay longer with this. Vocals are good and powerful but I can't hear the keys as much as I want. Anyway it is a really good track. You can always consider working in reverse removing some elements to create dynamic throughout. It's a bit too short for the dance track and definitely needs some break or bridge or something like that. I am not very knowledgeable when comes to dance music but definitely this one needs some adjustemts if you're going for a pefectly finished production. Other than - really nice work! Alex

Alex Thanks for you comments yes it was little short I agree. but this is the radio version not the dance hall one which would have been a lot longer. Thanks for your feed back and your comments are noted.

on One for Bear by doudei
hi doudei;)

I love it because of the fun it brings me and it's so positive vibrations. Totally abstract sounding indeed but as I find myself gradually going into/inside that mix I can truly experience pure joy and aliveness. Nothing more is needed here. Excellent work my friend!

I greet you! Alex

dear alex! thanks for letting me know what this track felt like to you, it means a lot. i have very similar reactions to it as it seems, which i think is very very interesting. i played it to a handful of friends and happy or positive was not a common reaction. for me however this totally is and i am glad for you too :)
take care and catch you around pal

mystery meets curiosity? not much to say on this one other than it is abstract sounding. only sax is helping me to keep the tonal grasp. very cool and it is in very slow motion. I really like that.

on Emperor Tritone by StaticNomad
hello again,
I really liked peacefully evolving intro you have in here. there's also some sitar I can hear (or something very similar) which makes me want simply take the 0:13 - 0:19, loop it and make entire track out of it. True meditation eastern music. Flutes around 0:51 are characteristic for your music, sound used on many of your tracks - always in the background. Never heard it playing a longer solo phrase...it is probably an 'Ozric Tentacles' kind of inspiration I guess. I can hear vocoded voice at 1:21 as well, may be just a result of processing and effects. The e piano sounds good. I find that horn (or whatever it is at 2:55) very enyojable and the way you manipulate is fun. Nice. Smooth transition to the heavier section but I assume you would probably have many elements available for each future song so that's not a surprise to see so many variations of the same theme. Basically you seem to play still exactly the same sequences (ot let's say: pretty much the same tune) when comes to 'metal' sections, of course operating different volume and heavier articulations. That's how I see it at the very basic level. I can't comment on metal parts because it's not really a region of my competence and preference. All I can say is that this sounds much better from the metal I can hear on the site. Also there's a little more of electric piano playing at the very end which is very nice. Still too short but always good to hear you playing keyboards!
I think I can have some ideas you may like at some point in the near future, hopefully sometime they will materialize into an interesting track. I say that because I just bought real analog monosynth and really want to expand my sound. Less plugins and artificial manipulations, more true sound and real time playing. Also wanted to record my upright piano soon. Maybe some of this will fit your vision - I will let you know. I can read on your profile that you are still available for collab with anyone who thinks he can add something good. So it is safe to say I think I can. We will see.

Thanks for posting quality and simply good sounding composition.
Best to you, A

Hi. The intro before the Rhodes and cymbals arrive on 0:21 is just one evolving synth instrument, no sitar. I think it's also just one note. I automate a control to make the sound change and open up to become brighter (and remind you of a sitar). Yes, good for ambient meditation music.

Flutes are not used in many of my tracks, just 3 or 4 that I can think of right now. Yes, usually in the background though in Fly Yes Land No they are lead somewhere around 9 mins (flute metal). The Ozrics have more lead flute as they had an actual flute player (who I've hung out with a few times).

"vocoded voice" around 1:19 is filtered EQ swept violin, a sound have used in many tracks eg A Little Bit Of Infinity, The Bigger The Fatter The Better, Right Place Wrong Century etc.

Yes, synth horn at 2:55 has a very evil sound and I automate the effects (and MOD wheel) to make it more aggressive.

No, not quite the same sequences during the heavy sections as the riffs change quite a bit. MrWolf thought the metal section was very different, as if I had another heavy track that I just stuck inbetween two jazz sections. The metal section still had the emphasis on the tritone but the basslines do change as well.

I knew you'd like the jazz and also thought you wouldn't know what to say about the metal because you don't really know about that genre. Yes, hopefully better than most of the metal on the site. Probably a bit more unusual.

Rhodes playing at the end is maybe too short but it seems to flow comfortably. And I am trying to make shorter tracks these days. I hope you noticed that there is quite a bit of distorted Rhodes in heavy sections eg 3:04 and also 7:41. And there's a wah effect somtimes on the Rhodes.

Good luck with your monosynth.

I would like to collaborate with people but most of all in person, not online, so that we can share the experience and talk about ideas and not have to exchange emails. And so that I know who I am dealing with as I have had many collaboration disappointments. So I don't really look to collaborate online with people though I suppose I am still open to the idea. Maybe I will think of something to suggest to you. I could perhaps send you the start of a track that I am really having trouble taking any further to see if you could add anything I like (probably). Some good playing might then inspire some good playing from me.

Just an idea.

on Come As You Are - Acoustic Cover by BradoSanz
hi there. I really liked the simplicity of your version after listening to the 'original' one. They seem playing violins and pianos but I do not like the sound of the final production, it's simply plastic sounding and overproduced (and 'epic' for sure lol). Probably there's some original acoustic version of this song available somewhere from them, I do not know. If not it's good you created it! Your arrangement is quite gentle, I liked the use of string instruments and some nice percussion additions. Again I would preffer less limiting and clearer sound but after listening to original I completely understand your vision.
Really fine performance and arrangement! Congrats, A.

on Hunting For Gatherers Feat Fya Philly by Philemonster1
hi there. I really liked what you did with that track from Evisma. Very cool additions indeed and great work on songwriting. The only thing would be that there's no proper vocal mixing of course and ultimately your recording is sounding quite unclear at parts when compared to the original one but still I really enjoyed your vision. Congrats, Alex

on Stealth Matriculation Vocal Mix by Spivkurl
hey, the bassline is so similar to Year For A Year! It's a bit faster but still it's pretty much the same haha! I am thinking of getting some analog synthesizer in a few days, it is good you mentioned microkorg but I am considering minibrute as well. I haven't decided yet.
nice work here! I liked this strange sounds like this one at 2:04. It is a favourite track of mine. Best to you, Alex
Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied 21st Mar 2015 - 10 years ago
Hey Alex, thank you for your comment, and apologies for taking so long to respond. I've been deep in circuit design for the past week, so... you know... It is interesting to hear your interpretation of the bassline. I hadn't thought of any similarities to "Year For a Year," but I think I can understand the parallels. It seems that my bass creation has become a big part of my signature sound lately. That's cool you are thinking on grabbing some hardware! I looked up the minibrute, but didn't get much for technical information. It seems like the big difference technically is that microkorg is *mostly* virtual analog, save for the filters which are analog... while the minibrute is *mostly* analog, though I at a glance I couldn't find anything which said what aspects were analog or not. I've never used an Arturia hardware synth, so I'm not sure what kind of signature sound they have. Korg stuff definitely has a sound of it's own, which I can usually pick out of a song right away... for example many of Crucethus's tracks have a good amount of korg sound to them. I have two korg synths, so I guess I've become accustomed to the sounds they make. The filters and the digital FM waveforms both contribute to the uniqueness to my ears. Let me know when you decide what to get, I'd like to hear what you do with it! I'm thinking the 2:04 sounds you speak of are the FX hits I built on the microkorg. I used the sample and hold function of the LFO heavily to create that sound. The S+H and the korg is not as versatile as what I designed for my modular, as it's mostly just a random control source, where the modular one samples any control input based on any clock source, and outputs correspondingly. I'm happy this is a favorite for you, especially considering it was mostly just a "workout." The module I mounted two days ago will add a lot of capability, so keep your ears open! Thanks much!

on Wax on Wax by GRIMLOOPS
hi. I decided to check out your track reading that actual forum thread. Truly I do not really understand what's all about - it's too emotional and ultimately I do not believe in such a thing as originality in art/music at all. It's always kind of ego position, nothing else. I benefit from this site using the sounds of other artists and am simply enjoying almost the endless possibilities of free creating, remixing and like.

I really like this track and it's very mellow jazz sounding but also very stylish. Keyboards are tastefully used.

Also I had a chance to discover your loops a few weeks ago when some other member started discussion about possibility of making money from the loops. Man you have really excellent sounding loops in here! I am a fan of your work.
Best to you, Alex.

hi again Poppe. So basically I do not post unfinished tracks on here. Just a personal perference, or to be more precise: preference. Take your time. Use this site to learn something new - I see you're just bumping up yourself here currently. And do not listen on headphones, it may damage your internal ear for sure (forever?).
I am immune to loud music like this. Always. And please do not use 'lol' when replying anymore lol.

Thanks for your track btw. Always helping me bump up mine on the top of a list. Peace brother, Alex

hi, this is sooooo similar to what I can hear on the radio. Man I am listening on the laptop internal loudspeakers now and still can recognize all the elements. I do not think you could do that with my music therefore all I can say is: very nice work on this one. Keep producing!

My goal was and is to create radio-like music of current trending tracks but with my own spin on it, so thank you for saying so! It is quite hard to level the sound of each element and have them come together. I could give your music a try and see what I could do?

on Hunting For Gatherers by Evisma
hi. I am on my 2nd listening now. This music will work perfectly as soundtrack for me. That's how I see it and I say that because it's still not that kind of music which I wanted to play over and over again. That's a matter of some personal prefference and it's still very relative needless to say. Really nothing to complain about this production at all, you're doing quite well as piano player and arranger not mention your bass skills. Good to hear you work evolving and it's nice you simply keep producing.

Reading some comments below sorry to hear you had bad experiences when emailing other peoples from the site. I didn't have any. I make A LOT of private e mailing here and managed to produce a great amount of quite interesting songs with collaboration of some members reaching them out personally over these last months since I joined the site. The work I am uploading here over the time is only a little portion of the great amount of that collab action. Some songs are still just 'trials' and will never be published. But that's really great way for me to learn and develop my sound. That's basically how I am using this site.
Of course the most part of the music on the site is not my taste at all too but I am not afraid from listening to different genres, sometimes I can appreciate only some single ideas or simply the vision.

As for the sugesstions I can only recommend you developing your playing even more. I am a keyboardist and basically playing the instruments is much more sane for me than just fooling around inside the daw but there's no way around it of course when comes to construct good arrangements. Going out and find musicians that may want play for you is so a hard work. You can't imagine how much energy I put to manage all this but at the end the results were great. Still your musical taste can be challenged during this process but that's what I really like. It requires flexibility and so much patience.

I can't give you any detailed review this time. Just wanted to share some thoughts.
I enjoyed listening again to this one. Best to you, Alex

Howdy!

Seems you're more into collabs than I am. I really use this site for constructive criticism and creation sharing anymore. Started for the drum loops, then Good Mr. Nomad thankfully shamed me into trying harder with the drums, and now I rarely use any loops. Now, I feel like I have a few friends here who don't mind listening to my overly bassy music(which I'm trying to make less songs that's JUST bass guitar, been doing it for years, time to grow).

I'll keep up with the V.I.s, and I do play 90 percent of what I keep in the tracks. The midi keyboard controller is really great. I didn't cheap out. Also, I'm upon a forced hiatus. My headphones just blew out on the left side, so I just dropped about $170 lastnight on some ATH-M50x. Had old ATH-M40, so it's an upgrade. Got great reviews. I LOVE to read where Beats By Dre are getting shit on by music lovers. It warms me inside. 80 percent if the price pays for the "b" on the outside. That is what you pay for. $89 headphones are out-performing them. Good stuff.

Take care of yourself, and others.

I tried with kick, high hat, clap etc. It didn't fit, it sounded too hard and strange. Then I removed the kick, and it was still too much.

This track is without drums to keep the energy right.
