That's very cool. It may take time to listen to all of your tracks but overall I enjoyed it eventhough it's basically the same theme played over and over again.

on Apocalypse 2015 - revolta2 version by joecramer
hi Joe, I am not religious as well. But still it is a bit dark sounding piece here so ultimately it's a kind of apocalipse going on when considering the middle age sound-image. reminded me of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYjJSEKtyvQ
nice take on one vst contest and songwriting. alex

Oh, Ingmar Bergman, wow.

Nice to here that you like the songwriting.

And right now, i am on a point where i can make realy much easyer/better music then i done it here :),
cause i checked out all my midi/audio/asio/daw/win8.1/vst problems and fixed them :)
.... NOW I CAN PLAY AND LISTEN at the same time and also can change things while playing ..... jippy :)

If i see or better say listen to the other tracks in this comp/contest, then i think i should do a real mastering and so on ;) cause noone does a real only one vst thing

Thanks for your nice comment Alex, i let me watch, at least 30 minutes, old Ingmar Bergman movies. (this new internet age is a real cool thing)

stay tuned

very smooth sounding and perfectly constructed song at first listening. I do not know why but it remided me of Prince from Purple Rain for some reason.

Thanks for being such a devoted listener and commenter Alex! Much appreciated.

And don't worry about the downlad. Since I have have decided that earning money in the music business has nothing to do with quality, but all with marketing and promotion, I decided it's all about sharing anyway :-).

on nepaul - perfection by doudei
hi:) this version is different but still very cool, I like it a lot. in a sense it's quite similar to 'while asleep...' maybe because of lovely twinkling e piano stuff in the background. simply much more complex from the previous version. I miss that short synth phrase a bit now, seems like it is hidden somwhere in the mix... Overall very great work here and simply positive and funky music. congrats. alex

yeah i think i know exactly which phrase you mean, had to make it a little less prominent.
i wanted indeed to try out something more upbeat and funky compared to the first one. in the end i liked this groove better together with the flow. cheers!

I strongly recommend you to discover older music. sorry to say but all that radio contemporary shitty compressed/limited music really scares crap out of me.

I understand your viewpoint, promenade :) But I must admit that the utter excitement I get at hearing a beautifully and emotionally-perfected mix on the radio with a crystal-clear signal steals my heart away everytime. It drives me to want to keep improving, hearing the perfection some radio songs bring. You don't understand my love for a beautiful mix :) I'm drawn to it like a moth to light. I will sit down and critique a mainstream hit - what I don't like and what I do like -and try to figure out what they're doing in their mix for hours. The emotion such beauty evokes within my very being is too intense to explain with words :P I agree that there are many old songs out there that are good though. I have a rock song that will be arriving on the Loop soon :P It's my first published work off of my new rig!

Thanks again for your reply. I entirely agree with all what you are saing.
Commenting of looperman stuff require a certain amount of perceptional stylistic 'filter', needless to say. Maybe that funkastic's loop reminded me of something that sounded strange in that specific context of the arrangement of your song... That may be a reason for my negative reaction. Also I found myself listening to your stuff in different times and some time I really liked it. The other day I hated it.

I am truly impressed by your work anyway. It is a kind of an ultimate 'complete musician' dream: constructing your own instruments, composing music, arranging, singing, playing instruments and releasing complete albums. What more is needed? I am using this site for so called self development too.
Personally I do not believe in getting very useful 'feedback' on lm. Its all superficial and generic. Usually '...some of the sounds could use a little more EQ to crisp them up a bit, but overall, I'm liking what I'm hearing' or 'I'm loving it!'.
Also I really believe in playing the real instruments because twaeking the daw is happening to fast to me to even realize what I am doing actually. Maybe I was listening to much to loops from this site... haha.

Keep up the good work. That is my only advise lol
Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied 3rd Mar 2015 - 10 years ago
I'm sorry if you felt that the funktastic loop didn't fit in. I guess I just liked the groove of it. Thought about removing it after I built my own drum patterns around it, but once I got the kick and snare arranged how I wanted, I thought it still sounded good in context. This isn't the sort of thing most people want to listen to every day, that's for sure. I understand your "self development" comment, and I definitely am satisfied on that account in regards to looperman. Lately I've been trying to help others develop more than taking what I can get though. There is so much talent here, but sometimes there is a lack of technical knowledge. I've gotten some great feedback from the people around here, but at the same time, I usually consider a track finished when I upload it, so I don't take recommendations into effect until later compositions. It's always nice to hear that someone just enjoyed it, and has no constructive criticism. Thanks for the good conversation, I can always rely on you for that!

hi. very nicely played! still I don't like some of the huge reverbs in the background. again it's only my personal preference. I had a chance to listen to your track earlier in the morning and again later. I tried my own arrangement on the accapella: https://soundcloud.com/promenade2239/silence-ft-courtney-odom-and-ferryterry it's very 'fused' haha.
Thanks for some inspiration. Alex

on Long Narrow Street by mrwolf14
hey MrWolf,
that drum loop from the beginning reminded me of At The River by Groove Armada. Also I had to think of 'Harlequin' by PJBass - you seem to have quite similar bass line in here. That happy chord at the end sounded a bit unusal, I thought you might simply still keep on 'suspended' mood but this is just my personal perference.
I really like the concept of an entire album here, will it be available somewhere to listen as a whole complete thing?
I was thinking of making a real CD some day with my current pieces and I will send it to friends and people who inspired me to continue my music production.
I say that because listening to tracks on lm is always very fragmentary and selective - I like listening to albums.

Anyway very good work on this little piece here. I hope I will have time for listening to the rest very soon.
Alex.

mrwolf14 replied 2nd Mar 2015 - 10 years ago
Hi Alex,
Thanks for the comment. After reading it I reworked a bit the end and I went for a "less happy" chord, which introduces the next song in the album (The Trees).
As soon as I am done I will release these songs for free on bandcamp: I like their platform, and even if there is a limit of 200 downloads per month on free stuff, I think I will never hit the limit :-)
I find the idea of arranging music in an "album" very interesting: this forces us to pick the best tracks and build a kind of "flow" which should make sense for the listener. I hope you will also compile an album of your tracks: I like a lot your style and it would be interesting to hear it...
Take care, Domenico

hi ant. it's quite original and unusual what you did here with the given loops. really interesting combination.
I like the way how you used that violin loop from the contest pack and developed it. I am not a big fan of so called 'cinematic' music in general but this time it sounded quite interesting. keep producing! all the best, alex

ok, so I said 'overproduced' meaning that some elements seem like they do not really work together in this song stylistically. That's just my very personal preference. So it is on the basic level of the elements of the arrangement... The vocals are very 'dry' but still they sound really fine with the short synth lines.
Truly I do not listen to electronic kind of music at all - that's may be a reason for my continuous cryptic feedback...
Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied 24th Feb 2015 - 10 years ago
Thank you for the clarification. I get what you're saying, I think "overproduced" means something very different to me. On the other hand, it is in a way the sound I've been going for... that mid eighties over orchestrated new wave gone pop sort of style. Stylistically, thought, I don't understand, as the style is mine and the song is mine, only those two loops were other's work. "Electronic" is just a catch all genre, and may have put it under fusion were it not for the purists around here lately... not pointing any fingers ha ha. I've gotten the reaction about the vocals from someone else, but really the vocals are more processed than usual. Just not autotuned. The guitar in the choruses may be bothering you, as I suggest Ab major for a moment, as opposed to the rest of the songs key. Thanks again!

hi. I think it is a way too overproduced one... where's the minimal approach? ok, still there's some very interesting single elements like a vocoder work at the very beginning of your song. I really liked it. nice tribal feel when the funkastic's loops come in.

good electronic track and really good songwriting work.
Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied 23rd Feb 2015 - 10 years ago
Hey there, thank you for your opinion on this new track! Overproduced in what way might I ask? It's really not far off in use of effects than my other recent tracks, and there are far less channels in use than most of my recent work as well. The vocoder is not actually a vocoder, just a couple samples of my voice arranged and effected a bit... I liked the groove and technical feel to it. The funktastic loop is present right from the beginning, and through most of the track really... it helped much to develop the swing of the track. Thanks for the positive comment on the songwriting! It went from a written lyric idea to a completed song in three days. I appreciate you listening and responding!

on PB And Grace by Spivkurl
haha just listening again to the first 14 seconds of this one (it's all solution, it's all halucination?) there's a kind of a hihat sound but with added harmonics at parts (very high, barely listenable short notes). it's really hard to come across the sound like this in the nature. so it helps me understand now what 'industrial' label means.
then I can hear processed rhythmic drum noise. filtered and looped. that's all very creative but still I can't find any reference point to say something interesting. that's 'just sounds' for me. some of them seem still operate as the 'basslines' or as 'hihats', anything goes. overall it doesn't challenge my 'musical taste' at all, do not worry. 'that's what experience is'!
Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied 1st Mar 2015 - 10 years ago
The line is "It's all illusion, it's all hallucination; that's what experience is." I guess your interpretation of the high hat sound as being indicative of "industrial music" is pretty accurate. To me, white noise, and other types of random or semi-random noise are some of the most common and ignored sounds in nature. For example, take a field recording almost anywhere, chop a section of it, then stretch it down to the length of a simple waveform... play this in an endless loop, and I guarantee it will sound pretty much like random noise. Not to mention the "static" that runs through my brain on a regular basis or the deceptively "silent" background of the electrical grid which connects us all. The wind which brings the rain, and the thunder. Sounds *are* just sounds, they only become something they are not when interpreted by nerves, and ultimately a brain. Thank you again!

Thanks a lot for the reply and sorry for cryptic type of commenting btw. 'Zank' is a refference to ZankFrappa and I actually meant the dark side of one's looperman personality (Zank is not me btw). Basically I come from very 'acoustic' type of music - that may be a reason why I see all so called 'edm' or 'electronic' sequenced music in general as something different. I remember my start of 'laptop music making' journey about 2012: a friend of mine sent me his vocals and guitars recorded using shitty dictaphone and my mixing/mastering skills were very poor at a time. I was using free version of daw called Mulab with only 4 tracks per song and many other limitations for quite a long time. At some point there must be some a kind of that limited field/grid workspace anyway...
You're right, there's some difference between strictly real-time improvised/performed instrumental music and 'programmed' but you can also think about the PC and daw as an another, more advanced musical instrument/sequencer. I saw some older live performances by JMJarre the other day and that 'live' human factor is definitely lost there haha.

Listening again I find your song very 'decadent' and experimental eventhough you respect the rules of the 'traditional' 4 bar song structure etc.. You start from very first level of creating the 'very sound' which I find really inspiring but also it makes your music sound maybe too 'original' and hermetic. That's very fine - I listen to it as a pure creation not through the filter of 'musical styles' anyway!
Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied 1st Mar 2015 - 10 years ago
Hey there, thank you for the replies! I understand where you are coming from regarding the "acoustic" and "electronic" sorts of music. I guess my thinking is a bit different. It is hard for me to think of any sound as anything other than a collection of vibrations (wave forms) of differing amplitudes, shapes and frequencies. For that reason, I have little problem using whatever gives me the type of sound I'm looking for; electronic, acoustic, or combinations (electroacoustic). I fully agree that a DAW is an instrument unto itself. I just got a MIDI to CV converter the other day, so now I can play my analog stuff from any of my midi keyboards, as well as sequencing full parts from the DAW. This will change things for me, as up until now it's been mostly sampling one shots and using them in the DAW as an instrument, or sampling longer loops and finding a key that works with them then building a song around that. Decadent is an appropriate word for what I've been doing lately. Happy that you can listen beyond musical styles, and appreciate it for what it is! Thanks!

on So Long Bound by Evisma
another very solid production from you. It seems to me like you really mastered this 2,4,8,16 bar sequencing structure. That's all very nice and very enjoyable to listen to. Most of the popular music is made using that formula, not a deep insight... but you can break that, simply by applying some irregular melodic guitar phrasing on the top of all that or combining different drum patterns like 3/4, 6/8, 5/8 etc on the main 4/4. I say that because I tried this on my actual track and it is actually quite simple to do just by loading more midi stuff into the daw. Hope it's useful.
I enjoyed this one. Best, Alex.

Sounds like my next track should be some Math Metal. The band Mudvayne were awesome at that, back before they started sucking. "End Of All Things To Come" was an awesome album with tons of layered rhythms and time signatures.

Were I a more patient man, I'd have that in every track, but I'm still trying to learn how to make things sound really heavy and aggressive. When I try, it sounds plunky and lifeless. Learning.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try to incorporate it into future tracks.
