Hey Abe...man I've got to say it's interesting coming back to your music after awhile away.....You do a lot of raves in the forums and constantly question your direction and musical connections, that's cool but it doesn't fool me for one second..your the sort of guy that's part of the musical equation,or more specifically your musical style is more akin to a chemical reagent..it's stable but volatile when mixed....I hear a lot in this piece, the past and the present...you don't need any advice, you just need instruments a room and enough air to breathe.....most of the listening public would trade their souls for that!...cheers Dave
I mean... I push myself, and I watch a lot of these young cats... And to me... It's like.. there's a MOTIVE for everything they do... Trying to sell me their ideal, their style, or their feel.
I am only interested in giving away what was so given to me? ... You know?... I get a lot of value out of that. Money couldn't buy that feeling.
Hey Vicen...cool catchy tune,it's very up and flows along nicely....thanks for the translation notes as well! always good to know what's being sung when you don't speak the language,I'm a huge supporter of people singing in their native tongues and hate it when artists feel obligated to sing in English..Your voice is great and has a strong midrange presence, when you mix heavy bass behind it you have to be careful not to wash it out occassionally..have the bass up in the pauses and maybe back it off a little in the chorus lines....great song, when is the video coming out! lol..cheers Dave :)
Thanks for everything. I am glad to confirm my conviction that sing in the language that I think and feel. Thanks for your honest review, Michael and I know that breaks break the ears, but we took it as an allegory of the lyrics of the song: We want to hear us and listen hurt (especially the end), but you're right Sounds very hard.
The video of the song is done ... turn on your TV, put the news and put our song in the background y. .. That's all folks. Lol.
I deeply appreciate your review.
Cheers.
Damn...the Scot in me wants to bear arms 15 seconds into the track!lol...Man your dabbling heavily into rhythm necromancy, your going to invoke some entity one day...this really works, the undercurrent of those metallic kettle drums or whatever they are is mesmeric...gives me the visual impression of some druid festival (or orgy!)..I see your using an APC40 now, that must be cool and really improve the work flow environment,I've often thought about getting one but I went the Novation Nocturn route combined with my midi controller keyboard functions, yet the desire still lingers! hahaha....Bloody marvelous track, you are the conduit for world music undoubtedly (plus great input from Salook and Nuada)....tres cool! cheers Dave :)
It is a genetic thing, isn't it? I've been playing weekly with my daughter's elementary school Drum Club and have really been thinking a lot about sections and the need of the heartbeat throughout and had to use it here. The APC40 has its own limitations, but for doing "live" the live recording, it's wicked! What I really love about it, is it allows those improvisational moments to happen in real time, something I think can be lacking in traditional arranged production, you know? I grouped tracks in this specifically geared towards how I was playing volume sliders and effects knobs, and it makes the approach more like playing some sort of hardware sampler than just playing with a DAW. I do use it frequently in conjunction with my Axiom-25, if just to use it as another MIDI controller. I think you'd dig having this rig. Cheers.
Hey Sean...as soon as I hit play I knew I'd be engulfed..and I don't mean by something like Steve Macqueen's close encounter with the Blob! lol...man this is organic music,it just spreads out and flows inexorably onward....throbmatic,a heartbeat groove..ah yes Dub!...it's interesting how past historical quotes are seamlessly inserted into the present,is it all just dogma or are we on a revolving political treadmill doomed to perpetually repeat the past..who knows, but there's one thing I do know...if FDR was listening to music like this or rather if he was a devotee of it....his character would have been different (but probably not his politics! hehe)...unreal groove, you can get hypnotised by this stuff,be careful!...cheers Dave :)
FDR most certainly made some real political mistakes in his career. The Japanese Internment camps was a bad call. Personally I think his cutting a deal with Prescott Bush and the Wall Street boys was even worse of a mistake, but such is life and political people. It's so weird hearing these ideals 70 years later, isn't it? I did a protest musical series a decade ago, and must say it's a lot more pleasant playing with FDR samples than it was with Dubya - lol. Thanks so much for providing a main part of the percussion for this one - you're a fantastic site resource Dave.
Farout!..straight from the source (your brain!)....Jazz jamming time in Germany.....Synthesizers are great but it's always very cool to get back to natural type sounds and just go with the flow....doesn't get much more of a live sound than this..love those drum sounds and the space..ahh space is the place...excellento man!..from an aussie musicano! lol..cheers Dave :)
Hey Bill...great to see the main man back in the driver's seat....super track mate! I love the blend of tradional music spiced up with contemporary style and pizzaz..where you have the bass sitting in the mix is perfect!..excellent growl and presence and the strings lay this superb undercurrent which just releases the listner's ears to a full sonic experience...fantastico!....so as not to deprive us in the future of your skills please wear crampons at all times during winter! lol...cheers mate Dave ;)
Coming to your ears like some funky apparition from one of the most creative artists on Looperman....Mr Bongartz no less! One of your best funky tunes man,I love the way this slips and slides over the fretboard..excellent production right across the board..I have to stop listening closely before it influences me too much! LOL...fantastic life's journey of your musical influence which distils into pure ambrosia....superb work! cheers Dave :)
Hey mate...if the horns were any crisper you'd have to put them in a plastic bag and market them!(SaxoCrisps/salt&vinegar flavour lol)...man I love this groove, the chord structure is so thick..the way you stack the stabs is unreal and you swing it with that baritone on the bars...every time I hear that beast it just hits your mid section.......There's one thing that surprises me,how did you ever get out of America?..if the pundits in Detroit,Chicago or wherever the hell the heart of Funk resides over there had of heard this, they would have chained you to a recording studio's door or made you George Clinton's right hand man!......Fuuuuuuunky stuff Men!..cheers Dave
Hi Dave, Horn crisps! I'm liking that idea... Maybe next year we could sell those to the people watching us at the Fringe lol...
I'm glad you're feeling the funkyness... The baritone is a great honk to add to a track, that rich bottom end always helps to beef up the sectionals. I think the bass needs to be up in the mix and a few have said which confirms it. I think a little more mix tweaks here and there are on the cards, but nothing heavy. George Clinton is one of the most groovy dudes on the planet, working for him would be an awesome dream come true..
Hey Buddy....Great sound straight off the bat Rei!...superbly balanced sound....your guitar riffs are just magically floating underneath that strong bass line, interspersed with harmonically rich keyboard fills..I think this is the perfect mixing template and very reminiscent of Bilbozo's production skills..there's a real frequency continuity..it has....Pizazz!..a life of it's own...excellent track man, totally together and not surprisingly..your one of my favourite muso's!..cheers Dave :)
oh, another great review from a great man!!!
how's life in Australia atm? I don't hear any good news from that part of the world, hurricanes and earthquakes and all that ... does Fukushima have any affect on Australia yet?
Hey man..a Rhodes always gets that blue note...quite a sensitive vibe you've got going on here,I also like the sparseness within the composition,it gives a very real quality to the performance and sounds "Live"...my only quibble is the very last note,it just cuts off abruptly,if you extend it with some fading delay it'll sound better I think.....whimsically dark with a little sadness thrown in..sweet! cheers planet :)
Hey Damien...cool vibe man!I'm glad your getting some airplay with this piece..I like the circular swell happening through the arrangement...I'm not surprised this is getting radio exposure, it's got a commercial feel to it and great production values...the very last note cuts off abruptly..I'd lengthen that with a little ping pong delay.(lol, couldn't help myself, always the critic!)..I'd stick with this 'commercial' type sound for awhile..and don't take me tagging it commercial as a criticism,it's completely the opposite..it's a very difficult thing to get your sound compartmentalised into an acceptable package that stations will play..more power to you man!..cheers Dave :)
Thanks Dave....yes I am trying to go a little more commercial....but still having fun with the music and thats the most important thing for me
thanks for the feedback

Hey Slap...I was at the Melbourne Zoo (which is also a fantastic facility) with my sister and her kids, anyway we're in front of the monkey enclosure (one of them) and my young nephew asks "what are they doing"..I promptly reply 'Shagging'..he turns to me and in all seriousness asks "what's shagging?"..I turn to my sister and say "lets go look at the Elephants, that's a safer bet" lol
Man your really hitting your straps now, this sounds great!.such a rich sonic experience and the fx's are way cool..superb playing..that's really a byword in any of your material.
cheers Dave :)
Great expressive touch with marvellous pianoesque overtones...spiritual vibe with some great chorded sections...the world loves a good musician and your definitely one of those...cheers Planet :)
Hey Mate..my friend zappo gave me a heads up to your presence..Far freaking out!..another disciple of the four stringed genie...love the fluid style Mark..wonderfully rich and harmonically super cool..welcome to the Loop..great to hear another bottom end merchant!..cheers Planet :)
You have been very busy musically....these symphonic pieces are some of my favourite examples of your work...they take flight and soar...I think you would be an excellent musical Director in many areas,Cinematography,Theatre,Dance to name a few.....superb work very exceptional!...cheers Dave :)
Hey Detlef..one of my favourite musicians....you!
The playing is full of light and energy and radiates a nurturing spirit...just like the sun!...beautiful guitar and great keyboard playing!.......you are the musical solar system!..cheers Dave :)
Hey Dave
Tones is not to make art, but they correctly assign to.
This is the art of the molecules in the body to vibrate, which creates a nice feeling.
Thank you my friend for listening and reviewed
Diggin this one Steve!....Man I think you've got new strings on that bass of yours, there's a great high end chime coming through on top of the growl....Super track,I don't know if it's the track description and I'm politically hallucinating but there's this African tenure running through it,got to be the poly rhythms maybe....I'll leave other people to comment on the mix,I just dig what's going on..this is way progressive,it's like a chemical reaction..it's on fire! lol..bloody creative groove that makes you want to invest in a pork pie hat factory......many of the great musical styles have come out of the UK..dare I say this is one more!...cheers Dave :)
Hi Dave, I just called it that because of what's going down in north Africa. I'm mean't to be going to Morocco at Easter lol... We might be embraced or stoned, who knows. I'm glad you enjoyed the track, it's not quite finished though. I need to add a few things to make it complete. The main thing is to let the thing breath, sit on looperman and let people comment. I keep coming back to it and if I hear something to add or take out I will do it, if and when I don't by my April deadline, it stays as it is and is committed to the final cd track list and pressed. Exciting times working towards this deadline. I thank you for your continuing support and friendship..
This is epic!...man this is a great piece of work...in fact this is where the uninitiated get to hear classic fusion in progress....There's a misconception amongst certain members here that I dislike HipHop,nothing could be further from the truth I just don't like crap....Ok enough with the preliminaries...On top of a throbbing orchestral groove which is harmonically rich and fluid you've laid down a virtual non stop vocal journey, succinct, emotive and delivered with a cool breathy style it ticks all the boxes of the top shelf area within the urban style..however it gets even better, introducing a counterpoint chorus with Mhyst's superb vocals takes this joint into the "way good to unreal zone"..there's a melding happening within the listeners consciousness, this doesn't happen very often...brilliant collaboration which as intimated will only get better with the final production......I'm a fan! cheers planet :)
planet, you was the last person i thought i'd see review or fav one of my tracks. haha lol. thanks for the feedback man - "There's a misconception amongst certain members here that I dislike HipHop,nothing could be further from the truth I just don't like crap" is a statement i can respect. i too, dont like crap lol. im glad you like the song. thank you for the review and the fav.
Frank Zappa's daughter Moon Unit did something called Valley Girl if I remember correctly..do they still exist in Cali? (I've never met one) lol..Interesting sound,it's very sine wave oriented isn't it,your voice sounds great,I bet you can sing as well... I know this is a genre that I've only heard a few times so forgive me if I'm out of line...I think the sound overall is a little too room based presence without any distance....maybe it's just the up front synth that dominates everything...it's well put together and judging by the reaction a cool tune..cheers planet
Hey bruva u bin walkin on de homie side of de streetz or sumthin!
Man this is better than great!...talk about a crossover for you,it's superb!..no other word for it.....A heavily accented urban beat right up in front of the mix means we're in Hip Hop territory and like the best this genre has to offer it's the perfect vehicle for vocals,Ciera Corr doesn't disappoint...with just the right amount of autotune to give her voice the contemporary sheen aficionados of this style love...but the real icing on the cake here is the guitar playing and arrangement, tastefully composed and articulated at every beat the listener is taken from Rock through Metal and deposited in a wide open vibrant soundscape....professional world class music...this has made my day Bill!....cheers Dave :) ps..I think you should categorise this as Hip Hop rather than Rock if for no other reason than to show that crowd how to do it! =7)
hehe Just for that...I changed the genre to Hip-Hop. Now Dave I hold you responsible if the Hip Hop artists tear me apart in a frenzy of critique ! LOL ! Seriously bro thanks as always for the kind words. Your rock mate ! - Take good care Bill ( Bilbozo )
Hey Sean..long time no data! lol..So this is Dubstep...personal tastes aside it's reminiscent of grime but then I've never really heard enough of both genres to be definitive..I've always liked Mhyst's voice and the synth line you've made is interesting, for a finished track I think it needs more maybe some electronic flavours shadowing the growl to give it another layer or two....but as you say in your description it's for a school project, which by the way is a great thing to undertake..I have no doubt when your finished the course you'll be kicking musical butt all over the place!...cheers Dave
How did I miss this one!...Damn this is great!..you've got the classic purple atmosphere vibe going here, which I might add is what Jazzers strive for...I love the bass line, definitely hitting the blue notes!Elephant guitar! yeah great..there is no better sound than an off volume note pushed up,this is a very skilful ability that not all guitarists have let alone know about(using a volume pedals is cheating! must be done with the little finger lol)..it just blends so well, this is a superb composition with excellent vision..downloading straight into my mp3 player..Excellent!..cheers Dave
Hahahahahahahaha..Jamie that is a very good description!lol.....this is a great mix and the levels sound great,it's interesting when I hear one of your tracks I try and put a face to the guitar parts..now I've listened to a lot of Larry Correll over the years and he plays a 335 pretty much exclusively I'm guessing (and I've drooled over your guitar quiver in your profile pics) your not dissimilar...the jazz tones could very well be this axe as well...you know I really am guessing here because you have two jazz boxes as well...I can tell single coil quack from a mile off so the Fenders are out...but you've also got a Les Paul and we all know what Dimeola can get out of that...please put me out of my misery and put a guitar face to your great tone! lol....a fantastic mix of uptempo smooth grooves that push the envelope into Jazz,Latino,Samba and R&B...you have the deft touch mate...cheers Dave :)
Thanks for your work on this Dave - it's great! You guessed right - I used the 335 for all the guitar parts on this - I love the warmth of the 57 classic pick-up's.
Well whatya know this is a cool tune too! lol(I like continuity)...you know Delta you've got a marketable voice, whatever anybody ever says about your music just keep doing your thing....I don't give a toss about whether we're proto aliens or what..but I always like good music in any shape or form and you've got it happening here....cool stuff man cheers planet :)
ElectroHop!... hey man this is my first exposure to your work..and I'll tell you right now within a nano second I was into it..Man you have a great vocal presence, articulate, keyed in,interesting and smooth....irrespective of a song's genre I always judge it on it's merits and there's a lot of boxes being ticked here...the joint is cool with an uncomplicated and catchy melody..the perfect vehicle for vocals..that's why this baby gets the seal of approval...you just got a new fan dude...cheers planet :)..oh and big ups to Steets of Neon excellent production!
YES! Hi-five for the listen and review. I appreciate your kind words and that was exactly my thinking behind this track, keep it simple, clear, and have a vocal melody that could hold peoples' attention. Streets will definitely appreciate the props as well. Thanks again Planet!
