Hey mate...I'm liking this groove..plus it's great to hear a drum track on it's own and also give a good demonstration of the program...I use a lot of drum machine programs and always love inserting my own samples into their patterns..I have Izotope's iDrum is this the same?..Sounds like it might be...probably one of the best and easiest to use rhythm programs out their, which is a big plus, there's nothing worse than having to spend up to weeks mastering a program and then find your creative juices have stopped flowing!lol....definitely a cool groove box. cheers Dave
Yep it is, haha. Kinda where the track name came from. I hadta show it off coz of how cool the prog is (fav parts are the Bounce feature & song creation window). It just goes to show how powerful this is coz I was just playin around with it that night. Anyways, its cool that you've used the prog too and am glad you dig it as much as I do. Lates!
I actually have driven through Paris in a sports car! lol...unlike Marian Faithful who I could have sworn was initially singing this song!...There's heaps of influences running here,Jeez if I close my eyes Big Brother and the Holding Company float across the stage amongst others...cool stuff Marie! and cooler still that it's a Blues number, for some weird reason that genre hardly gets a look in these days..more power to you!..I dig it..cheers Dave :)
Thanks Dave!
Again with the Marianne Faithful comparisons, lol!
All that time I spent as a kid trying to imitate her paid off, LMAO! I'd love to do a cover of As Tears Go By.
So glad you like it, & blues is my preferred genre. I've written a couple of other blues songs, but so far only really have the vocal melodies sorted out! But I have been sent some great stuff that I'll either use for those or write more lyrics for!
This one was easier since I had the music to work from. Love mark's guitar playing!
TY!
Marie :D
I would imagine the hint of Hip Hop was generated by incumbents with their 'A' levels judging by the sophisticated sound! lol..seriously though,I really like this groove, mellow funk I would call it..and yet again we are faced with the hopelessly inadequate genre list,I understand why you chose fusion..however thats like categorizing Modern art under contemporary art...mind you my idea of what fusion represents probably is antiquated by now...sorry for the rant, odds are the upcoming changes will happen sometime after I expire from holding my breath!..cheers Dave
Dave I was on the verge of hitting the sack when I saw your review and rest assured I went to sleep with a smile on my face. Not that the thought of you expiring made me laugh but as we both know the full implementation of the "upcoming changes" might see both of us off :)
I have to say that I don't really like the Fusion genre...or that tag and I agree that it doesn't really do justice at times.
Thanks for the listen and review.
Elaine
Hey Ron,gutsy performance!..man you've got nowhere to hide when your going direct!..whoa what a great take!full of all the emotive energy anybody could possibly wish for in an acoustic set..it's very symptomatic of the covers you do that they always become "yours" and not just a motion....no doubt wherever your gigging the people are digging it big time...excellent man, heartfelt and true...cheers Dave :)
Dave, Greetings brother. Always great to hear from you and once again I am humbled by your kindness. My father was a jazz drummer and our house was filled with music each and every day. I have 3 older sisters who groomed me on all things rock and roll and 2 older brothers who appreciated the tight vocal harmony bands. So I learned from a very early age that it is ALL music. Cover, Original..really makes no difference to me. If a song touches my heart, it matters not if I wrote it or if you wrote it. I learn it, perform it, track it and share it. The expression is as personal as any. As Hendrix and Eva Cassidy make anothers song their own, I try to project myself as best I can. Thank you as always Dave. You inspire me. RG
Hey Paul...great track man!..super punchy and funky, excellent vocals with a built in tag that can't be ripped off, don't know why I mentioned that thought, guess it's because of all the whining the Looperman HH crew do! LOL..I've always liked your style and delivery, reminds me somewhat of early Beastie Boys, maybe it's the Old School vibe!..all I know for sure is material that I like and this stuff fits the bill....very tight and very cool!...cheers Dave
My style is definitely golden era. I don't care what's HOT these days, ima keep doing me! lol. Thanks for review Dave. I hope you picked up the EP too!
Hey Vicen..strong performance man..I familiar with Spanish history and some of it's political saga's..always great to get a perspective from an insider especially a musical one!...The lyrics fit seamlessly within this rocking groove,super!...and very much appreciate the English translation for monolingual dummies like myself! lol...cheers Dave :)
I have been fortunate to meet people of all kinds and with different visions of the same story. You already know the recent history of Spain is very complex and although many Spanish people think that there is only black and white, the reality is that there are plenty of shades of gray.
Thank you very much for your review and if you want any recommendations of books (I hope they are translated into English), please tell me.
Hi mate..first visit to your page,G'day!..this has a very Film Noir intro to it,which is cool...then it slips into a more traditional groove..it's interesting listening to this, twenty years ago I would have said the drums are way too loud! lol..but everyone's perception of where the beat belongs has changed, including mine I might say..I like it!..the end notes need to be strung out a little more with some long tailed reverb and fade maybe..it was a little abrupt(a very small critique) .. nice one!..cheers Planet
Cool oriental motif running through this piece...an excellent vocal presence, you've obviously put a lot of work in on this track,it's got depth and polish...I think your starting to get up onto the level where you can compete commercially,I have no doubt if you were afforded time in a state of the art studio the finished product would really turn a few heads...excellent work by all involved!...cheers Dave
I like this track,I wasn't sure what direction the music was going in initially, but that was because it was listed under "Spoken Word" and I'd set a mental agenda for it....a cool progression musically and visually..The lyrics or prose are great, though to me this is an opening stanza for a larger work, you have the advantage of being able to successful vocalize your written material, not many people can pull this off and still retain the work's subtleties....writing is a capricious beast, unlike music which in many cases hides behind a facade of detachment..when you write it's a window far clearer than any assortment of notes can ever be...but you know all this. cheers Dave
Hi Dave,
what a lovely deep and insightful review. Thank you.
These days I mush prefer the idea of writing to music in some respects and it's strange for me to read things I wrote a long time ago and realise they won't have the same impact on me or the reader now, but I digress I think.
Anyway thank you again for listening and commenting.
Elaine
Hey Steve....Jeez man,is anyone in your family bereft of musical ability?..fat chance!lol..This is so on another level since I first heard it,Fiona as they say is the icing on the cake to a superb track.....I love the guitar work especially at play here but there's no doubt the added sensitivity Fiona brings with her vocals puts this track probably as "the single" on the album..do they still do that?..pick a track for 'single' designation...I think I'll only be able to decide when I get the CD and play the whole album start to finish, which will be great!(5 copies would be maximo appreciato compardre)..cheers Dave :)
Crazy man!...You've got a great set of pipes, and this is my only criticism of this super track..Bring the vocals forward in the mix!lol..people always tend to back off with their own voice levels(strange but true)...seriously fantastic track buddy,Baritone Sax is one of my fav sounds and when it's incorporated into your trade mark horn section it blows me away...bass line is wicked!...ahh the WahWah pedal..do you realize I'm a certified WahWah repair man (in my own lunch box that is)lol..give the modulation pot a good squirt of crc,rp7 or whatever brand penetrating spray into it's innards with the extension tube and the thing will be like new.....nuff said...super FunkoRhythmic vibes!!..cheers Dave
Hi Dave, just in the process of getting quotes for 1'000 copies of this album to be pressed. I have loaned a pair of Yamaha HS50M flat response monitors to try and get the best mix I can... We need to tweak one or two solos as Alexander's not happy with a couple of notes here and there ( That's perfectionists for you )! I change the vocals on be with you Dave, it might be worth your while having a listen as it now features Fiona. She has brought a wonderful sensitivity to the track.
I'm hoping to get the whole thing finished by the first week in July ( pressed and packaged ). How many copies would you like me to send?
Cheers, Slap...
Hey Larz..cool piece...sort of Zen'd out there while listening! lol....the intensity builds in this which is great, always better to be moving within the music...introspective with good vibes happening throughout...I dig it!..cheers Dave
Thanks a lot Dave! Appreciate the review. Thought you would like to hear your drums in action. ;-) Great job on these tribal drums! Very unique which is why I used them.
Hey JW...big sounding tune you have here man!..Stephanie's pella fits perfectly,I'm not usually an Autotune fan but because of the instrumentation happening within the track her voice effectively "plays" itself seamlessly...a very "up" piece that's way enjoyable..careful or the cast of Glee might rip it off! lol(it does have a commercial sound, which is a very hard thing to achieve believe me,I've never been able to do it!)...excellent production! cheers Dave :)
Let the boy do it!...is that the vocal stab I can hear?..if so that needs to be the title of this track!lol (apropos of Alexander's presence)...Man(men)what a lyrical funk feast this is....you know after I listen to one of your tracks the next day or something,I'll be walking along or whatever and suddenly one of your riff's will go dah, dah, dah, dahdeli, dah in my head!..this is so much better than having an ABBA chorus loop in your brain endlessly like what used to happen in the 70's!...no doubt scientists have a perfectly rational explanation for this phenomenom...the music sounds like a drop of mercury sliding around a plate, people will love it....super musicianship!...ahhh the formative years of brilliance come to mind! lol...cheers Dave :)
Ahh yes...I'm a big Tolkien fan if that's where 'Kili' came from...beautiful,emotive track I suspect there is some sadness attributable to this production...excellent,poignant track.....and we all move on..life is strange, there is rhyme and reason we just can't grasp it yet...cheers Dave
Cool mate!...definitely an interesting take on this cover..the tone of the guitar patch is almost Sergio Leone Western....would have like a little distortion or feedback occasionally on the turnarounds, but it sounds great as is..as Bear mentioned MJ material is not something to be taken on lightly, and you accomplished it like stepping off the curb!..cheers Dave :)
Cool man!..got a slightly jazzy undertone that really floats my boat..excellent bass line..fully sick as the saying goes!hehe..I do like the way this winds throughout, top shelf groove glitch!..also you did an exemplary job in your track description, giving full props to the loop maker(s) where applicable is very cool....Excellonto!..cheers Dave :)
Yes thank you! I do my best to give credit where it is due. It wouldn't be the same without them. Thanks for give it a listen, I'm really glad you liked it!
Man this is great!..made even better by the use of the vocalist's native language(I hate lip service to English when the dude(s) performing speak another tongue)..Damn the drums are totally mint!..Definitely needs to be longer but as you've stated you were baking hot! lol..nothing beats people getting down and doing real music with real sweat!...excellent work! very impressive!..cheers Dave :)
Swear the god brutha - we were roasting in the studio but such an unforgettable little session :p. Btw; im def willing to work on a collab with you in a near future - Ill give you a heads up; cheers!!!
Hey man..I dig this track, the bass line fits it like a glove..it's got a forward questing attitude that picks up the synth and other elements in it's wake and just grooves along...cool tune literally! hehe..cheers Dave :)
Hey mate...sorry to hear about your bike accident compromising your bass playing,bummer!....Cool track with a funky groove..Jeff Beck is a fav of mine and I can hear some of his tone bouncing around here...like that breakdown!..cool track with alot of funky legs!..cheers Dave :)
Never used an Ipad but I've seen them....technology never ceases to amaze me....Well chaps I can see(hear)the emergence of Alexander's own sound happening and it's a very cool thing to behold indeed..love the phrasing, filthy bass line and signature Saxophony but the synth playing floored me..wow!....Look,if this is an indicator of whats to come,is there any chance I can buy some shares now! lol...Quite apart from enjoying this very groovy music,it's a privilege(not trying to sound soppy here, but it's true) to witness the growth that's happening within your musical family.....one day in an interview you'll be reminiscing about tracks such as this one....FDUB! (fair dinkum unfuc*ing believable) Dave :)
Now then Dave, hows the epic track coming along with the Geoff Boycott narrative lol.. The world of ipad and apps especially for music related projects is pretty vast mate. The two Alexander used on this track were just scratching the surface, time permitting over the next week we should have this whole album in the can and finally mixed and ready for pressing. I have to thank you for your continuing support on so many levels, your wise words mean a lot to us both. Edinburgh best look out when Saxobones arrive in town from August 5th....
If it shakes Booty's I'm for it!....Pretty heavy track that's deceptively timed..more like a waltz on Red Bull or something! lol...cool sound with great production(as usual)..cheers Dave
Fanatastic timbre!...a pleasure to listen to,the voice is an instrument, and complete like it is here when there is vision behind it...Martin's playing always lifts things as well..excellent!...cheers Planet :)
Thank you Planet for stopping by. I have met some wonderful talent, such as yourself, here on Looperman.
Although I been a member of Looperman since 2007, I primarily used the site to find a particular sound I was looking for. It's been just recently that I uploaded my music, and "Wow" it's been a blast. It is really uplifting to find a music community that support one another.
It's an enjoyable experience listening to someone that understands where they fit in a song....finely balanced right across the board..you've definitely got it Twanna, you float!
cheers Planet :)
Dammmmnnnn!....this is way deep..it's like a vision of groove swimming through an ocean of emotion......reading your bio I can appreciate the musical integrity resonating throughout your being....A simply superb piece!..having recently lost my Father I can understand the wider implications of the emotional content and the ongoing focus it brings to one's attitude......uplifting and very very cool!..cheers Planet :)
I am so sorry to hear of your loss, Planet. When my father passed, there was a huge hole in my life, but thank the Lord there is a vehicle, called music, we can use to get us through the void.
