as always entertaining, musical, fresh, great guitar work, the guitar sounds amazing, and your sax well you are the man every body would want in their band to blow away the blues, I will never be able to do a track in 10 or 15 minutes I've tried your challenge and failed, you are the one man band. Peace Love and Freedom to jam away the summer.

Ahh..it's very interesting when I'm listening to this I isolate the guitar..think of what I might do...when I hear what you do..it blows me away...that fluttering phrase in the middle is insane...it's a great shame that Rob Whilhelm isn't here to discuss the philosophical aspects of improvisation with you and where they can be nurtured technically...it's way over my head....cheers mate

Very sweet tone...I imagine when your laying down the guitar chords your hearing the melodies simultaneously...The guitar is spot on here with perfectly measured timing and pauses....a fitting vessel once filled with your flowing flute and saxophone...It just proves that you don't have to slave for hours and hours to create something special...It does help to be certifiably brilliant though!...too good man! :)

Nice track as usual. Didnt know you played guitar as well. Jack of all trades huh? I usually play an instrument all the way through a track and just keep the pieces I think came out good. Kinda like freestyling but with instruments instead of words. Again nice track!

Hey man..cool chops!..am I hallucinating or can I hear a bit of Sesame' Street in there?..lol..just kidding but it's ringing a bell...Hell,I have to start at the end of this tune..the lead out is fantastic..it's very interesting listening to what is essentially a musical sketch...these exercises exist in their own right and would be great blueprints for expanded productions..I'm getting visions of Slap wired up to a brain scanner showing what parts of his grey matter lights up when he plays..lol cheers Dave :)

Hi Dave, It's baking hot over here now baby! Sesame street (Big bird and chums) lol.. Maybe in the deepest part of my melody mind that song creeped in...I love the freedom of these pieces/works, just play what comes out twice and render... Simple! Or is it? More to follow.
Thanks for the support and interest..

I like the way you keep on pushing yourself to create on the fly here again, very uplifting vibe here, reminded me a little of early Sanborn with Hiram Bullock R.I.P, one of my favorite all time guitarists.. enjoying this alot, can't wait to hear your next jam!!
thanks for sharing your artistry again!

Hi Victor, Dave Sanborn's one of my top players!! I love the early works of Sanborn. Hey man you dig Grover Washington? And I'm listening to Joe Lovano at the moment (Monster)...Thanks for the comments buddy...

Hey man...interesting formula...retrospective..or breaking down the cellular barrier between thought and action...I think one of the magical things about music is that it represents the future and the past at the same moment....It could be argued that the responses of a musician are governed by his tutelage and ability. I'm more inclined to believe that once a certain intimacy and understanding is achieved the brain takes over in that wonderful knack we humans have..we extemporise....I've met few musicians that can do this as creatively and successfully as you can....Like many of your students we are lucky to get an opportunity to learn from as well as enjoy your music.......planet :)

Hey Planet, nice words from one so wise and musical. It's a strange one to digest this improvising/instant composition. I'm having to think about what the sax/lead instrument will play while recording the guitar foundation, and trying to accomodate the interplay between the two before I get to that stage. Does that make sense? Anyway I have done another five done, so watch out for more spontaneity coming real soon..

For years, improvisation was the only way I'd play. This track you've uploaded reminds me exactly why. The slightly effected sax is to die for, my man! Also, and more significantly, you've managed to avoid the trappings of most solo work - it doesn't sound like someone tossing off at all! Cheers.

Hi nOmad, I'm glad I don't sound like a tosser lol... I will have to grace my ears with some of your work. Anyone/everyone should improvise, ideas must come from somewhere.. Thanks for the review..

on Nice one Dave; Saxobones by SLAPJOHNSON
Hi Slap,

Hey, I really like your tune here. Very nice sound and playing throughout. The saxes are great sounding and the mix is very well done. I am not sure I was even on Looperman when this came out so I missed it.
A few folks have asked me to try and do 'funk' type of tune so I am working on that, as I have time. Not sure it will be up to your caliber tho. I am gonna mix it with some slide guitar/blues to make it a little interesting since funk really isn't my normal genre.

Great job here and thanks for sharing this great tune.

you murdered the genre. daaaamn!

ive been touching on the problems of today lately aswell. i find that if there isnt music to uplift the people and speak on subjects they can relate to then who's going to speak for them?

i love the way you did it too, like James Brown shit man. lol
you spoke on something important but on a uptempo beat. people can dance and be rebelious with this song. lol

Love this song Slap, beautiful piece.

i can be a bit cynical about love...

but somehow, you kinda convince me to come to the light side...

not yet not yet hehehe...

i really love the solidity of your horns... fantastic job keeping the levels clean.... i also really appreciate the stereo imaging... things are placed nicely like it was a live band.... which also... drops my jaw...

great song!

This is impressive indeed, the thing i like the most is that it has a improvised, stream of conciousness type of feel, a bittersweet memory....or the finish of a long night's work? Your tone and versatility on the horn speaks for itself! Burnin'! Thanks for this and putting everyone up to an interesting and difficult challenge!

Hey slap, that collab is around the corner as soon as i get my beat running properly. (and call me jez :P)

So what can i say about this ska track, hmm, being in a ska band once, i can say this is awesome work mate, the melody, your horn/sax work and mastering are just sky rockets to the moon, with jelly and icecream for all :)

As always ska is close to my heart and thus, you've made me a happy bloke today :P

I love these lyrics, first and foremost. I can actually really relate to them... I'm on that road right now.

You have a radio-ready sound on all your tracks.. it makes me realize how much I need to learn about mixing lol. Again, I love your voice. I remember when I first joined I think you only had one track that had you singing on it at the time. Glad to hear you using it more :)

This was a really beautiful song, especially for being sparked by a comment about a picture ;)

Hi Lisa, wow girl! You really know how to make a guy feel special. Firstly thank you for taking the time to listen, and review mutiple tracks, I feel somewhat honoured by the time this must have taken you! Thank you! I have not been around much of late, mainly because of work, but I feel a real sense of loss over loosing bilbozo from this site. One of the highlights recently was your return, and I'm pleased to hear things are working out for you now. I was looking through the pictures section the other day, and came across some of your beautiful images (non of this standing looking like a gangsta rubbish), but you have a real eye for a good picture, and it was a joy to look at your uploads.
Holding your chin up can be a pretty hard thing to do, when the world keeps making your jaw drop. You have helped me stand firm and still call this place home. Kind words of truth and support from one so far, but yet only a message away...Thank you

Cheers Slap...
