Description : This is an instrumental track I have been working on over the last few days. It features a full horn section in the chorus section, and a tenor sax playing the lead lines through the verse sections. I have dropped in a funky flute solo for the middle break. I have just re-discovered tremelo effect for the guitar, so I have layed down a trem guitar along with a clean guitar rhythm. The bass is my yamaha, which is active. This allows for a greater tone selection and depth, I have tried to get depth with the bass here. I'm a huge percussion fan, so the usual shakers, tambourine and congas come out to play, as well as a vibraslap!

A fabulous track shining out from the noise of wannabes. You know I'm a percussion fiend, so my double thumbs up here should carry some weight. I love the arrangement here - the drums and shakers are at EXACTLY the right level and really emphasize what else is going on. In other words, for me that flute really stands out precisely because of the percussion you've got supporting it. And your sax playing...I understand the expression about "giving up my left nut" when I hear this kind of playing. I love the quality of musical "dialog" throughout this piece. A favorite to be sure.
Hi n0mad, thank you for the glowing review. I have to agree with you on noise wannabies.. Throw some loops together with no thought of key and develop a huge ego.. I feel what with your love of precussion (as shared by myself also), we should do a collaboration.. If you could put together some form of track I would gladly lay down some melodies....
Haha... I can't help but laugh when I see the word vibraslap... cause someone on facebook started a vibraslap group for fans of the instrument, with forums discussing what songs use it.
This was gorgeous, I love that flute solo. Well more than the flute solo actually, but you know what I mean! lol
this is more than just luck. you have a serious talent. your music will be played well after you and i are gone. keep it up slap. think ill draw the girlfriend a bath and put this one on when she comes home.
p.s. the sheet music was exactly what he needed. he will soon be a member of looperman
what more can i say other than.....you have 81 tracks. which is a great thing, but i just can't review all. this is by far my favorite though. you really have a lot of talent with brass....much respect, youre a great musician. i like how you always have an undertone of ska in everything though. its adds a much needed flavor to songs that you never thought it would work with. keep up the good work!
(and as im noticing around here a lot)

Hi Filaofsoul, thank you for your supportive comments on my tracks. I am embarking on the RPM challenge in Feb. This means writing and producing 10 tracks in a month. Now that's refreshing...
Well, browsing the many artists on this site, A live sax section with brass was not something I was expecting! I can tell your a man of perfectionism, and obviously took some time over this song! and the flute solo was awesome! I have to say though, I was waiting for the drums to break into a powerful beat, accompnaied by the horns. But hey, suprise is the name of the game right? You are an upholder of the fundementals of music and dont let anyone else tell you otherwise!
Hi Lorin, thanks for your kind words. Point taken about the drums! I could have seriously built that kit up. Maybe time permitting I will revise the drums...
A great usage of ballad lines and slower tempo. You certainly seem to have a penchant for strong fills at the end of turnarounds and at new sections on beat 1, which shows through well on this. Have you though about changing up the rhythm of the tenor lines (in the way that makes the later choruses of the flute solo so effective), to indicate a bit more tonal movement and energy growth (perhaps a bit less reverb in some higher phrases?) A thoroughly enjoyable listen -- not often to I hear ballads done with this combination of soulful simplicity and energetic give-and-take. Keep it up!
Hi Npk417, the thing I like about your reviews are the understanding/constructive comments. I am a huge ballad fan (playing alot of jazz standards in a band for many years), Yeah I agree with you about the sax line, I suppose I was trying to stay simplistic, but I could have altered the rhythm without losing the flow. I'm still getting to grips with ableton, so the reverb trick I will try and sort for the next track. I will given time stop by your page and listen to your tracks soon.
Talk about a multilayered experience!..Brilliant Steve!..with this track you've bought out your best Bone China and cutlery...What starts out as a gentle march rapidly unfolds into an immersion of musical construction from a master....All your phrases blend and compliment each other so well..this really is a rewarding experience..and not forgetting the inclusion of your namesake instrument..the Vibraslap (sounds like a way kinky sex toy!)...I love this tune...Cheers Dave :)
Hi Dave, well buddy this track is all down to you! You little gift allowed me to get back in the driving seat and start making music again.
Thanks for being a friend and a great human being!
Yo end!! Yeah I played everythig you hear, apart from the drums which I bought! They are real samples of live kits. I think I should get a refund after your remark lol....

Description : Sounds of the sea and trippy acidy washes with a cool beat and some live acoustic guitar. Written in Cubase with live guitar and keys etc. The sound of the sea and birds was recorded on the beach where I used to live. After moving to the city one sunny day I was telling stories to a friend about living by the sea and started making this track.
Description : This improv recorded a few years ago powered my interest even further than I expected.....recorded using tc electronics pedal and tascam studio recorder and a Fender Squier tele electric....
Description : I used some new "Anthem" pickups from L.R. Baggs on my Martin acoustic to see how it performed, and it definitely beat my expectations. Captured the sound perfectly as I needed.
Anyhoo, this song is almost a prayer, hence the repetitiveness of the verses. As Christians, we believe that God will one day return and take away every suffering and all evil for good; in that regard, this song is almost one of waiting too. Very simple, with vocal harmonies and whatnot. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did making it. Made in 13 hours.
Someone else wrote the words, I was just inspired to use them. I only added the "Yeah" and "Amen."
Description : This is a track off of one of my EP's I dropped last year. It is based on True events. Sometimes when people finally take a second in life to slow down and breathe in..... The oxygen is deflated and it's too late. Take your time people, because time is what differs a good decision over a bad one. Life is precious!

Description : So a guy buys a nice guitar at a pawn shop but returns it a few days later after waking from a sound sleep to hear it playing by itself. When he tells of his experience he is shocked to learn the owner had actually died while playing it. Is it fantasy or truth? Is the guitar in this track that very same guitar? Its all part of the mystery and fun of Halloween !
EDIT: modified ending to a deeper voice
Description : This track describes a magical state that I experienced a long time ago. Maybe you also know the feeling that you can't describe something like this with words ... luckily we have the music for it!

Description : A progressive journey incorporating deep ambient chillout, swing jazz, hip hop, d'n'b, trance and a slight touch of acid with a thousand ninjas battling in space. Features a great deal of my lead slide resonator guitar playing. Also a whole load of synths, programmed acoustic drum kits and manipulated drum loops, big basslines, regular electric guitar, vocoded guitar parts and bass guitar (distorted right at the end). If you like deep chill, far out soaring beauty, fat beats and 170 BPM uplifting slide trance controlled mayhem, you might just get into this. In my heaven there is an endless supply of honey mangoes (an exquisite beauty of the fruit world) and even more slide guitar. A 1,000-year-long version of this track plays there on a loop (long enough not to get bored of it) but here I offer you the Earthly 11 min version. You must be very good to be accepted into my heaven to hear the full thousand year version so best start now. It may be heaven's main theme tune but it's not above criticism so feel free to let me know what you think of it. Maybe you prefer the soundtrack in hell. I hear it's pretty badass...
