bass, you play bass. i'm hanging out at your place right now and as my memory recalls other tunes i've heard of yours, it is recording (yet again) the sound that makes Dave Planetjazzbass. maybe i wouldn't be able to close my eyes and listen to your muzic and "know" it's yours yet, but i'm getting there.
eshar's voice is so soothing, and that muzic, carefully calculated, made to transform anger to calm from 20 to 0.
Hey Pat...you know when I listen to this old material of mine..I cringe at how little I understood track mastering and production values....Eshar did a fine job of narration, and has a marvellous voice but it's a little fast in places, for my liking these days...we are all on a learning curve though...thank you for your kind review. Dave :)
Hi Pat....I would expect that any husband of yours, apart from walking around 24/7 shaking his head in wonder at how lucky he is,would say 'groovy baby' a lot! lol...cheers and thanks for the listen Dave ;)
Glad I waited till the end to start typing, nice fx. Interesting topic for sure, kinda reminds me of music by a band called Brand New Heavies, acid jazz band is what I would call them. Really a bunch of goodness happening here, except for the main character the track is about, hehe. Nicely put together and mixed, always a pleasure!
It's funny but the more I listen to your tracks, the more it gives me a dub feel... I think the background, noises, voices, etc, it gives me that kinda psychedelic feeling...
It seems to be common to your songs, so it makes me think it's an important part of the music universe in your head...
Well, to sum up, I like a lot this music universe in your head... It's captivating, it makes you chill, i makes you think... I like it a lot...
Haha, thanks mate..this track was made ages ago, before I properly understood digital sequencers, mixing and mastering...it was done on a portable 16 track Zoom machine(which I'd just bought)..I had the ideas but not the application skills....cheers mate for the listen! Dave :)
This one goes to my iPod with your permission... :)
The mix is brilliant. Bass and Sax meet at the perfect point... This track is so "cinematic" to me, that it reminds me Eric Serra's work in the early days... Awesome job on mixing your percs !!! Very smart overall mixing in fact !
This is Intelligent Art... There's nothing missing in the recipe...
And... WTF ! you both are very skilled musicians !
Playing a bit of sax, and a bit of bass, I can tell these players will rock your ass... !!! :D
Hey Pat...couldn't agree with you more for general public consumption, however being a painter you'd be surprised if you got inside my head..the visuals in there are in permanent 3D/4D? and dimensional colour! lol..cheers Dave :)
..not much left to say, it would appear...i do not seem to be alone in my adoration of this musicscape. the tension is definitely presence, but its the underlying current of cool confidence, especially present in the masterful horn runs, that really brings this piece to a whole new level for me. its all just so....gooooooooood.
heers for the much needed inspirado. you have been a rich source of it oh these many years.
Outstanding job!
Hey Oasis..your way too kind!...thank you for the glowing review all the same....I just try to channel visualisations into my music and hopefully succeed....cheers Dave :)
As Jimmy Kranky would say, Fandabidoozy!! (I dunno if you'll even know who Jimmy Kranky is but that basically means it's bloody brilliant)
What captures me the most is the clarity of this piece. Everthing sits in exactly the right place, the instruments compliment each other perfectly and i love the unpredictableness of the beat patterns.
I'm taxing a copy of this so i can play it when the sun comes out again. Cheers!!
Hey Nick thanks man!..never heard of Jimmy Kranky unfortunately,he sounds a bit like Karl in An Idiot Abroad (I really dig that guy and want to start a political party with him!..lol)..I'm off to google him!...cheers Dave :)
Dave this music plays out a beautiful and yet tragic mindscape! For me it really portrays the subject matter with the precision you only get with a master artist!
There are subtle light and dark elements which I think would reflect the thoughts of a martyr on his final mission?
Hey CS thanks man!...much appreciated...the thing is I've never met a martyr obviously so I'm projecting my own interpretations upon the subject...I didn't want to conjure up any stereotypical images and hopefully I've succeeded to some extent.....cheers Dave :)
A tremendous composition from start to finish. A wonderful music to enjoy listening. It is full of nuances and sensations that transport you ... A really great music.
That's really powerful... fits the described scene so well. His feelings, thoughts, environment, and the inevitable ending... everything is here in those 3mins.
Great track, thanks for sharing!
Hey ALXSIX thanks man!...glad you had some visualizations while listening,to me this is the most important facet..well hopefully!lol..cheers mate and thanks for your great review...cheers Dave :)
Hi Dave
These are just the little things between the bars that bring the whole thing roll into. But a film can be confusing if you do not know the end. The prelude has succeeded ........ But I want the end ......... lol
RESPECT! ! !
CHEERS Zappo
Hey mate..it was for a very very short film!...3 minutes LOL..it's over before it has begun! lol.....I agree it is only the prelude....together we could do a feature length film and get rich!..thank you my musical compatriot! cheers Dave :)
it took me in pretty deep. i suppose the groove very well might suggest the mindset of the soon-to-be suicide. a coolness, a detachment, a resignation.
technically awesome work.
hope the film is coming together and there are bucks $$$!!
peace.
Hi Midi..thanks mate, yeah lots of introspective flash backs interspersed with his planned course of action in a very mobile/static sequence...money of course is always welcome! lol..cheers mate :)
Wow,those drums...I know others have said it but they are superb and I wanted to ask if that was guitar swelling in with part of the intro?
I knew with a track from you I had to plug the headphones in instead of these worthless tiny Altec Lansing speakers I use to just play music... not "hear" music.
Hey Al thanks man..the drums easily consumed most of my time on this track..In a lot of my tracks I lay out and program the drum groove first as in this case...all the instruments apart from my bass and the drums are synths...I was using a few guitar patches within layered multis...their ok for subtle nuances, but as you well know mate nothing beats a real axe!..cheers mate and thanks for the listen! :)
This is excellent - really enjoyed listening. Great sounding drums and the whole feel is very very good indeed. It's tense and full of foreboding too. A touch of Miles Davis? Good luck with the film - hope it materialises.
Hey Ritchie thanks man....the trumpet tone was a product of BigFishAudio's First call Horns Vst....I've often thought about doing a full on Miles type number..but I wouldn't dream of plagerise his name,I'd be cursed forever!...I hope the film does eventuate, but it's not up to me,I'm just helping out...cheers mate :)
The subject is serious but, you have knew here, provide elements, of a certain of hearing lightness .... Highlighted by pounding drums. Two contradictory elements, but you have done here, a subtle and well mix ....
and if he doesn't find his way - there's got to be something wrong with him, because i sure did......a very enjoyable piece of excellence....everything just flows on its own in the same direction.... thanks for sharing this
very very refreshin........background story was amazing...the changeups and progression is somethin you rarely hear in hip hop so listin to this made me envy your craft and genre....music like this heals and soothes and i feel very glad that i chose to listen to this one....very nice....keep inspiring and motivating raisin the bar for all genres to respect.....~thez
Hey Zman..thanks for the great rap bro, much appreciated!....a great aspect of Looperman is the different genres one's likely to be exposed to while strolling around the site...which reminds me,I have to get a HH track together and nudge it your way real soon!!...cheers mate :)
Great track..love the story behind it,as unfortunate as it was,it sets the mood and creates the perfect imagery.very nice, clean sounds and rhythm.the Bass and Guitar bring this to life, with endless possibilities, mayhaps some vocals....
Great job!
Really cool tune. I like the thing going on with the panning...of course the fretless really brings the gel to the track. Who played bass on DAvid Gimour's About Face album???can't recall but the bass feels like something from that era,,,,,and that's a real good thing. I too thought the 12 string was a little thin in spots, but that's just on one listen. Won't be the last though. TK
Well, I don't know all the technical lingo but I really enjoyed that intro. The atmosphere of this takes me to a relief of some sort, a lifting of the spirits because of something left behind, something you didn't need, baggage.
Good vibes on this! May even have yourself a vocalist ;-)
Hey Mizz Muzical marvel thank you for the listen!...at some point a little light will go 'bing'in my creative cortex and manifest into something that I hope will be just the right balance for you. :)
Thanks Mizz Muzic (or is that Mizzuz Muzic..don't answer that! lol)...Guys like me that mainly play instrumentals spend a disproportional amount of time cursing their complete lack of vocal skills and seek convoluted ways of addressing this shortcoming.......it's true! haha..appreciate the listen! cheers Dave
AWESOME!!!!! This track deserves to be heard in an outdoor stadium!!!! It's large, and soooooo funky!!! Is it just me, or does it get better and better as it goes!? I love it!
Hey mate thanks!....I always try (though not always succeed) in building a tune so it's second half has built on the first and gathers some inertia..whereas most pop songs do it the other way around, and have that annoying or successful habit (depending of which way you look at it) of staying in your head! lol..cheers man, appreciate the listen.

this was a bit of a cool tease for me. tantalizing my senses, keeping me on the edge of "whats next", from sax to flute...
a cool mix of instruments, simple, and that breakdown, mwuah.
