I obviously dont know for sure, but I'm willing to bet your dad would be proud of you and this track. The end product will be great i'm sure. keep putting your heart and soul in it, and it'll all fall together. Talent is def their. The break at the end is sick.
Firstly, sorry for your loss. I can't imagine what it's like to lose a father, but I hope you're doing well.
Secondly, this is great. I love the beat, the samples, and I just generally love hip-hop that sounds like this....you know, soulful retro-futurism or whatever you wanna call it. My only one criticism would be that this is too long [that's what she said?] and ends up sounding repetitive. My suggestion would be to bring the chopped up bit around 4:25 to somewhere around the middle so the ears don't get totally used to the main melody, before bringing it back again. Other than that though, this is excellent work and I genuinely enjoyed this.
Sorry to hear about your Dad, my friend, I empathize. I am sure he would have loved this tribute.
