Do you understand that the Republican party today is the Democratic party back then? They have switched their view points. The Republican party is now conservative, whereas the Democrats are the progressive party. More proof of this can be found in the fact that the KKK members supported the 2016 Republican candidate, we all know who he is. Anyways, just wanted to clarify your statement.
