Hey, Spuds. I've been enjoying your tracks. I've got a lot to learn from you I think. I can hear how you handle the kind of things you critiqued in my track, at least I think I can. Your tracks just sound a lot better. One request: It would be great to read a detailed comment from you on one of your tracks (e.g. this one) about how you constructed it, how you approached the mix, what you side-chained, etc. That would be really valuable I think.
Thank you ever so much buddy. I never mean to be overly critical of peoples work and I'm so glad you took what i said as it was meant.
With a track like this with so much going on I tend to use the 'Call & Response' way of working.
In the case of this one I pretend the the bass is asking the drums a question. and after the bass has asked (the bassline finishes) With the end or every 4/8/16 the drums answer the bass with something. Like a double clap, reversed crash, tuned up tom hit..... etc.. I know that sounds weird but its the way i organise sounds, hits, melodies. It gives the music an ebb and flow.
Bonjour, Laurent! This track was a pure delight! It was great to hear true musicianship. Thanks so much for allowing downloads. Have added it to my iTunes playlist. I don't recognize the names of your fellow musicians on the track. Are they Looperman members as well? I was very impressed (and envious! ) :)
Hello Eric and thank you for your gentle comment. This tune is the very first mix of my life. The musicians on this tracks are friends and members of my old band Cannibal Snacks (Youtube), they are not members of Looperman. One loop is from member ebae. Thanks again for your message, I really appreciate. Cheers and beats. Laurent
A great Deep House track! Pulls you right along. That's one of my favourite EDM genres. That and Trance.
You did a really good job on this. I was interested in your comment that in a club (I've never been to one which probably explains why I suck at making this kind of music)all people want is beats, builds, and bass. :) That's good to know. I always worry that my EDM tracks don't contain enough variation.
Very very nice, Dirtzilla! I see from your profile that you are fans of Parliament and Earth Wind and Fire. Very good taste! :). You really got the groove going on this one. I think Joseph (JosephFunk) would appreciate it. He's really good at this stuff as well.
Wuz Up, My Northern Brother in Music. ) Thank you for the comment and sentiment. Mr.Funktastic, aka (Joseph Funk), is a good friend and a Master at Funk.
You have composed a very, very nice piece of music, Masanori. Piano part is really nicely done. I ca see from your comments that you have a good idea of how to approach this kind of music. I will need to read them carefully so that I can learn from you. I can definitely see this being used in a film. Has a "Bridges of Madison County" feel to it. Music in that film was composed by Clint Eastwood.
Hi Eric!
I'd happy to hearing from you that You too are interested in this kind of film music which describes human emotions behind the images on the screen not so interfere the scene of the moment. We sometimes annoy with the feeling that this melody is so strong or not affecting the videos. I saw 'Bridges of Madison country'. Thank you for generous metaphor.
Very nice. I agree with Crucethus' comment You've got a very nice chord progression going with this track and your arrangement made it work really well. I particularly liked the melody lines you introduced. I'm big on melody. This track sounds like it was made for vocals.
Well, that definitely added to the holiday cheer! :)
Just kidding.
Yes, pretty depressing lyrics. Kind of a musical "reality sucks" vibe going. Great singing and backing track. I really liked the low intensity, intimate approach to the vocals. It worked really well.
Definitely Sergio Leone-worthy material, Jamid. Like Humps said, The Good, The Bad, and the Hobbit! :). I loved it! You did a great job with the arrangement, introducing new instruments and weaving the main themes in and out. Very well done!
Hello Eric,
Thank you very much for your kind feedback mate.

Glad you like it.
Mate, with talented people like your good self around I’m just tagging along.

Thanks again.

Jamid
Very very nice track, Neuromancer! Loved the groove. I guess I missed this one when you first posted it. Good mix, too. Like BadNputs, I just keep bobbing my head for the whole thing. Loved the Rhodes. I need to figure out those chords! :)
Hi, Kyle. Thanks for posting this track. Kind of unusual on Looperman. Real instruments!!!!
I really enjoyed the track and especially your vocals. It is a really pretty melody and I'm very big on melody.
I finally found somebody who does more processing than I do on vocals! :) Major difference is that you apparently can really sing!
I did like the song a lot. Personally, I would like to hear a version with a simpler backing track, highlighting acoustic guitar, and less processing on your singing. Less epic. More intimate. The strings were a nice touch, I'd keep them in the mix.
Hi, Joe. I really enjoyed this remix. Haven't listened to the original version, but liked this one a lot! I agree with you, Stephanie did really nice vocals on it. I see that you've got all sorts of detailed comments from other members. Crucethus' comments are great. I wish I got that kind of attention and advice on my tracks. I liked the mix. I did think the level of the drums could be scaled back a bit in the mix and still keep the driving dance feel that it has. If the high hats are on a separate track, I'd dial them back and maybe roll off the higher frequencies a bit with an EQ. But, that's probably a matter of taste. I'm recognizing more and more as I listen to tracks from Looperman members, that I'm definitely stuck in an "old school" zone. I had someone tell me once that my stuff sounded "old school" and I didn't realize at the time that he wasn't giving me a compliment! :)
Hello Eric. Thanks a lot for your friendly words.
In a way i am also often "old school" and i think it is ok as long as you wanna make some "old school" stuff.
But sometimes i love doing different things. Like a new genre or style or collaborations and so on and in this case a remix/master. And if you wanna learn something new about yourself and music, then i have to tell you that a remix from a pop song (if you are like me not a big fan of pop music at all) will teach you so much .... strange but true.
Very, very cool track, Silverman! I really liked all the variation you worked into the track. Mix was excellent. I especially like the ending section which started around 4:33. Really closed off the track nicely.
Hi, Zion. Nice track. I agree with Jamid and Silverman. This would work a whole lot better if you remixed it, dropping all levels down so it doesn't flatline at the max. I was taught that if the mix really isn't working, start over and pull all the faders down to the bottom of their range. Then start bringing the up one by one, but don't let your overall main stereo output levels get any hotter than -3db. Preferably a lot lower. I must admit, I hate starting over, particularly when I've locked in volume automation on the individual instrument tracks in a project, but sometimes it is the best solution.
Hi, Jamie. Very nice, tasty, track! I must particularly compliment you on the mix. Clean, decent dynamic range, different parts nicely situated within the frequency spectrum. I was very impressed. Track has a nice bubbly feel to it! :)
Definitely keep going with this one, Sheensheep! I think you are communicating the feeling/mood really well. I don't think you really need the "yeh" samples in it. I very much like the fact that you have a wide range of dynamics in the track. Makes it much more interesting to listen.
Thanks! Glad I'm achieving my goal so far. I've taken to adding the 'yeh' sample in my tracks as a tag, but honestly I think you're right that I don't need it.
Really, really nice work, Ludwigbroo! You clearly know how to make good dance music. Percussion parts were great. I think it might help to reduce the amount of side chain compression on the chorus part (also suggested by others), but I was impressed by how you handled that. It worked well in the arrangement.
I'm happy you think so! Thanks :) Yes I know that i have a hard chain on the chorus but I liked the sound it made. Everyone has different opinion and I am glad to hear and get feedback of what you guys think!
Loved this track. Just had to download it. So sorry I missed it 5 years ago. But I think that's when I first joined Looperman and was still finding my way around. Your track was suggested from the Looperman "you might also like these tracks" feature. I haven't noticed that before.
Did you manage find a vocalist for it? For me, I hear a really good female R&B singer on it. A melody line immediately jumped right out for me. When that happens, I know for sure that it is a great track. Will now need to check out your other stuff.
I totally understand your thinking on downloads, Paul. I have also noticed that some of the tracks I like best on Looperman aren't available for download. I was thinking this might be out of concern that somebody would take them and re-purpose them for commercial use without permission. I thought that your "Fire of Love" track had that kind of potential.
I'd certainly be interested in getting a MP3 version of the track and also, if it isn't too much trouble, the lyrics. I'll PM you with my email coordinates.
Hey, Paul. Haven't been on Looperman for a while. Just listened to your track. Really liked the groove. Good vocals! I'm not sure what Balzac meant by "more depth". I thought the instrumentation was just right for the track.
If you are ever interested, I've got an additional melody line that would work as a verse, to add a bit more variation to the track. Would have done a quick demo to send you but wasn't able to download the track.
Hi mate thanks for stopping by, I stopped putting tracks for download because they were forever being downloaded by "deleted" or "unknown user" without so much as a "nice track" or thanks! I could probably send you an mp3 or some kind of stem in WAV not sure if you could use!? I use Ableton live by the way. As for proper collabs I dont get as much time as I would like to devote to music production so I couldnt really commit to anything at the moment.
Nice track. I particularly liked the strings, which took me by surprise at first. The mix was very good I think. Each part nicely separately. I immediately thought it sounded a bit like a Gotan Project track, which is a high compliment. They are great. I do have one suggestion. I think you should consider introducing some additional structure with diffrerent chord sequences. This is such a good foundation. You should build on it.
Very interesting track, Allochtune! I like the jazzy feel. Nice beat in behind - ties in really well with the piano work. So, you need to tell us. What is it with lawyers in the Netherlands making electronic dance music? Law school must be really different. Over here in Canada, my view always was that law school was specifically designed to beat all the creativity out of you and crush any artistic sensibility that remained. Took me years to recover! :)
Thanks for listening! I'm glad you liked it! To be honest, it is a different kind of creativity, creativity with words. I like convincing people and composing music is just a different way of convincing people.
Law school here probably is quite different, because we don't need to follow other non-legal courses in order to get a law degree. Therefore there isn't really a law school, just studying law at the university! (I assume it works the same in Canada as the US)
At least passion for music is universal :)
I really liked this track, Mike. The beat was great and it contrasted really well with the very dreamy sounding synth overlay. Not sure if that's really the right way to describe it all, but that's how I heard it. Lots of interesting, subtle touches that kept coming in, keeping my interest up throughout the entire track. Nicely done!
