No, no, no, no... F888 you!
Hahaha!

Don'tcha just love that word? It has so many applications and all that. Anyways, this is strange in a Tricky sorta way. Its kinda Glitchy, but it also has some Garage Electro qualities to it too. The "Just havin fun" part of the lyrics really struck a chord with me (or is it supposed to be accord, shrugs). That's what its all about, right- havin fun? Kinda like if someone aint havin fun with it then why they doin it at all, ya know? Lates!

on Electro Funk (Demo) by Krook
Now I know whatchu mean when ya said that you were a percussion junkie on my thing. This is def just as perc heavy as the last one I listened to. It's kinda interesting because its like I can almost imagine you during a mix session (playing with live controllers and what not).
I'll admit that its nice to meet someone with similar tastes in their style of music, ya know? Though at the mo' our stuff is just a touch apart (kinda like yer the lows and I'm the highs).
Oh, and I just had a wicked idea for this!
You know the bits where they're kinda isolated and all that (like a bunch of mini-bridges). I was thinkin that it'd be killer if ya threw in some vocal samples from some old TV show or something (was orig gonna say 'war movie' or 'sci-fi flick', but those're kinda played out, and then I thought- wouldn't it be cool to hear lil snippets from "I Dream of Jeanie" or something). Either that or lace in some kind of secondary track into the mix (you could follow the retro trend and add some Acid rock track from the late 60s or soundin like its from back then), that or old skool pop or something.
And I'm spent... Later on!

Hi Donnie
Thanks for the reviews and taking the time to give me some input. This was a very early track of mine and I was still trying to figure out what I was doing (I still am :)) but I get what you are saying about feeding another track into the mix I think I could do with something like that in a few of my tracks. Im hoping to get my APC40 at the end of May here in the UK hopefully that will help me to arrange better tracks.
Thanks again Donny

I'm thinkin that this has some retro Electro qualities to it. Circa 1989-91, give or take. The Drums on this have kind of a M.A.R.R.S. vibe to 'em. And the voc-sams ya used kinda have that cheesy 1990 dance-pop flavor to 'em (just think of Dee'Lite here). If ya ever mess with this again, ya might wanna tweek the vox stuff just a bit, because comin out my speakers their mix sounds a little hot (ie, too pronounced). Overall, this is a pretty sweet composition. Later on!

Whoa! Dude. I am totally reminded of that one track that was in the movie Blade right now (Blood Pumpin or somethin like that, can't remember now it's been so long).
And it's changed (sad face). Haha, not really. The transition was pretty decent. Though its another shorty (real sad face).
I wish this was longer, man. I'm thinkin it could easily hit the 5 or 6 min mark and still retain its freshness. Man, you've got to finish this one mate. Later on!

I really hope that I will make it longer and finish this song completely.. and maybe I will add some vocals.. ;)

Okies mate, just figured I'd letcha know.

Since yer using the same screen name as your stage name, you don't need to include it in the title of the song too. Kinda redundant, ya know? Just figured I'd share that with ya.

As for the track, Play 2= The track starts off kinda basic and I really didn't have any idea about where it was gonna go. I really dig the way it progressed (specially past the voc-sam of 'bass', though I'm not normally a big fan of vocal stabs and such).
Anyways, you said this is currently unfinished? I could discuss music ideas with ya all day, but I might have a quicker solution here (even as much as I hate doing it)...
Check out my song Lightswitch Rave 2 on here. Kinda has a similar vibe, maybe. And it might give you some ideas.
Oh, and another good track to check out is...
GameboiX- 1 Hour work (or something like that). Another one with a similar vibe to this. I think you'll dig that one too.

Also, would you mind if I used this maybe (prolly a remixed version) in my Lightswitch megamix? I'd shoot you a copy of the remix to use however ya wanted afterwards. Thanks for sharing. Later on!

Thanks for your reply.. ;)

As this song is my first real song I've ever made, it may not sound so good to some people..
I'm kindof ''newb'' at this producing thing.. so every advice I can get may help me progress..
Gonna check those songs later..

As for that remix,
I don't mind at all..
You may remix this song if you like ;)

cheers!

on The Swarm by sketch
Hey mate,
The synth treatment where I am now (@around 3:20) really does the name justice. So do the Guitar stuff ya had too.
Normally when I see that name I think of a bunch of angry Bess, but in this case it could be a number of things.
A Bird's Eye view of a ground battle.
A bunch of people running to escape a tidal wave.
And the length is really fitting for D&B...

Okies, play two= The drums at first kinda remind me of retro synth pop type of stuff. And the way you've got the synth and the percs interacting is choice.
Though again, I'd love to hear the Bass accentuated more (possibly even solo'd,).

To everyone else- yall really should listen to this with a subwoofer to do it any justice!

Thanks for sharing. Later on!

Play 2= Just let it roll through the first time reg. Kinda like giving it the once over before I'd say anything.

Okies, so here we go... I too am diggin the drum treatment on this and the synths on this are nice n gritty. Though I'm thinkin the bass needs to be pumped up a bit coz they kinda take a backseat to the other two (unless that's what you were goin for, if so, nevamind).
Did ya have anyone or anything in mind when ya made this? Just curious is all.
Anyways, this one would be interesting to see how it would flow if it were placed in a mix session. There's a few things the DJ could play off of. Later on!

Hmm, interesting intro mate. Those FX sound so familiar (shrugs). Anyways, if it were me behind the station I'd add some effects to the first kick loops to give a kinda blended fade-in kinda feel, ya know. I'm thinkin that the bass is dead on with this. And the synths kinda remind me of space klaxons for some odd reason or another. Decent length too, though if ya ever rework this ya might wanna throw some variation into it somewhere (say, starting around the 3-3:30 mark). Later on!

WB buddy. I take it you've been praticing/studying House a bit on yer down time? From what I hear here it sure sounds like you're making a beautiful transition from Garage to House.
Way to not hold back on them chords mate. Kinda like trading finger treatments and single key stabs for that. I also like the way ya break it up- having long constants and short periodic out bursts. Sorta keeps people guessing which way its gonna go next, ya know?
Daft Punk would be proud!
Haha, later on mate!

PS. any headway on messin with those 'Whooplash' samples I sent ya?

I like the way the vox change up on this between the chick soundin one to the guy one. The bass on this is pretty nice too. Though I'd encourage more scratchin or scratch FX on this (or maybe a scracth solo part somewhere). Other than that this is a pretty solid arrangement. Later on!

Haha, well, that's cool. I wonder whatever happened with that?

Anyways, I had an idea for it. How would ya feel if I used this in a special "DV Synergy revisit megamix"? I'd use this track along with others to do a session including most of the tracks submitted for it. It'd have a track list and be free for download.
I think I could def work my magic on this one. Coz it's such a nice mix. Later on!

on What I Dont Wanna Do by Spivkurl
This is like some off-the-wall 80's new-age synth-pop track. The vocals kinda reminded me the most of that. Kinda like a mix between the singers of Devo and New Order. The synth treatment of this is like something we'd prolly be likely to hear at some fancy art gallery that doubles as a lounge. Sorta like the evolution of those hipster coffee jazz bars of the 50's. Cheers!
Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied Unknown
Thanks for the good comments on the vocals, you compared it to some of my favourite vocalists of the new wave scene. That coupled with the last review comparing it to talking heads, I'm in heaven. The art gallery/louge you describe sounds like something I'd like to open if I wasn't broke living in a hick town. Thanks for the great review!

Yeah, I'm gonna shamelessly promote my own track while I listen to yours...
Pfft!

Anyways, nice in-and-out of the drums on that one part. And I'd actually like to hear a version of this track with just the bass synths. Not that I'm knockin the drums, it's just that I could see that stuff being used in another way. Kinda like give it a more Electro vibe, ya know?
And what in the world with the squirrels was that lady sayin in the voc-sam ya got on this, haha? Interesting mix mate. Later on!

So which came first the chicken or the egg?
Or the Guitar work or the other aspects of the track?

Anyways, pretty interesting treatment mate. I'm thinkin if it were in my hands I'd add some quick rolling Pans (on key with the snare or everyother kick). And some primary lead/guitar isolation. Possibly some slightly Distorted Phase to 'em. Oh, and some cross fades between some of the sections. Though where it stands now is pretty bangin. Later on!

on Wannabe feat Donnie Vyros by Finn69
Sup Fin,
I absolutely love the retro treatment ya gave this. It kinda reminds me of those old Reebok Double-Dutch commercials (atleast, I think it was Reebok).

And you aint gotta say here, but I'm curious as to what kind of effects ya added to my vox?

Anyways, the drums are nice n 2 or 4-steppin fresh. And the bass pumps cleanly enough to where I could see breakers doin UFOs, arm walks, & flairs with precision.

On a serious note about the rap side, have you seen any of the new Futurama movies? One in particular comes to mind.
Bender's Big Score. Kwanzaa bot's part (voiced by Coolio) is what I was thinkin. Here's a link to a vid of it on YouTube...
This Trinity's Going To War
If you were to go that route...

Anyways, very nicely done mate. Thanks for sharing. Later on!
Finn69
Finn69 replied Unknown
Thanks man, I'd kill to see people breakin to this. Sick link as well, though I'm not sure I'd call it such a 'serious note'! Regards the vox effects, it's actually surprisingly simple:

1) copy and paste your vocals into 3 audio tracks instead of one.
2) transpose the second track up by 1 step
3) transpose the third up by 2
4) bob's your uncle! (you might need to turn the whole lot down, and i assigned all 3 tracks to one side of ableton's crossfader to make things easier)

Peace!

on Standard Issue Instrumental by CONEYISLANDRECORDS
Haha, I think I got it mate!

At first I was still in mic-mode so I was tryin to think of stuff I could add to this, but then my buddy Splish popped into my head (coz he's done a few game tracks) and then I had this really cool idea of where I could go with this.

Make it be like a 8bit versus remix.

Coney- Megaman Vs DV- ???

There are a couple of tracks that're pingin around my head now. Just gotta figure out which'd be the best to go with. Anyways, collab mode off, haha.

As for this track, the voc-sam on this is nutty. Kinda remindin me of that Poppin my Collar song from a few years ago. The drums on this just reminded me of somethin (I'll tell ya bout it when I respond to yer other email), but they're nice!
The only thinkin that'd give this track more bite is some throbbing bass thrown in here and there, ya know? The kind that goes- bow bobba bow bow- bowbow- bowbow (or somethin like that). Other than that, cool stuff mang. Later on!

on Paradise-Take 2 by DaMann
Haha, no I don't wanna wear headphones, phewy...
Anyways, I'll do that for play 2, okay?

As for ideas, hmm, gonna let this play for a min before I start shootin 'em off to ya.
Okies, I suppose it's played enough to form some schtuff. Alright mate, this does have some very mellow qualities about it, but I'm gonna haveta gig ya on the 'relaxation' elements ya touted above in the desc- it's too upbeat and engergized to be truly relaxing.
So there what I'm gonna recommend is that ya do a track like this, but kill all of the hyped up dancy elements (the drums... /play 2/ the pulsating bass {or just tone 'em down alot}, the hyperactive synth leads).
Just leave it at the pads, the beach effects, and some super silent bass and somewhat slowed down leads.
Now I hate to reference my own songs, but check out PSR3 (Mountain Wind) if ya want a perfect example of a 'chilled out' song.

Course, I just noticed that this isn't 'chill out' it's trance. And there you get a golden star. This is a very awesome trance track. And for the bits I suggested dropping- I love the double clap part of the drums (prolly the most) and the hyper synth leads too. The fade out, isolated one is nice too. /play 3- for closing statements/
The length is perfect and I could see a remix of this going well into 8 or 9 minutes (perfect session length quality). And I dunno if you've ever messed around with making super long mix sessions, but a track like this would be a perfect starter I'm thinkin. Since you've got all of the elements you can iso, extend, tweek with FX, warp the time sig, you name it. And with the way some of your other tracks are you could have a pretty cool mix session with an adequate time to land you radio spots, DJ gigs, etc.
Anyways, I'm rambling now. Great track mate. Later on!

on 1st RPM Track by DaMann
The intro on this (before the drums kick in) has an almost cinematic quality about it. Kinda like the end credit music they play on some films (you know, the time you usually walk out of the theatre). Okies, let's rewind this puppy a little...

Okies mate, I'm back to the drum intro part and I'm thinkin that maybe you could try easing 'em in with a slight fade (not drawn out, just long enough to kinda capture the leads you got on this). And maybe add some kinda whiney, siren-like pre-build on them (like a wind-up) so when they do drop it'd be like them bouncing at people like off of a diving board.

Sux that ya had to delete the orignal, but the quality comes through on this version.
Oh, and have you got a name for this one yet? If ya don't and want some suggestions I could throw some at ya.

Whirlpool
Jet Stream
Storm Front
A Leaf on the Wind
Balcony
And they Leave
Exit 1a
Cloverleaf
Traffic Patterns
Syncopated Flow
Organized Chaos
Okies, I'll stop now. Haha, you know me- once my mind starts goin it's hard to shut off. Ooh, wait... F*** all the rest. I just had an awesome idea for a name (and it's a nod to graphic technology)- Marching Ants! Yeah, that's it. What do ya think? Anyways, cool track mate. Just let my name suggestions fill in the blanks on what this caused me to think of. Later on!

Alright mate, this is play 2. There was a bit of a delay between 1 and 2 coz I got sidetracked by something.

Anyways, I dunno what it is, but the playback outta my speakers is superb! It has a crisp quality and the lows are comin out nice & bobby. This is a pretty decent composition you've got here mate. on The Code- Bangin Kick and Stompin bass technohouse by Salkizar
Rawk on mate. The name seems so fitting to the pulsating rhythm of this. And that one synth leads sequence I just was barely able to hear kinda reminded me of Morse Code. So cheers for that. The voc-sams are kinda cool, but seem a bit strange next to the overall mix (not knockin it though).

Oh, and have you heard about how I'm gonna start doing site Podcasts again? Yeah, I figured it was about time for me to.
Anyways, I'm thinkin this would go perfect for my type 2 mix session (where I take the track and remix it and play it with other remixed tracks, mine included). I'm thinkin this would pair well with my track- Tha Beginning.
So if you're cool with that lemme know and once I'm done with the remix I'll shoot you an message so you can reply (with addy) and I can re-reply with a copy of the remix. And once I'm done with the podcast I'll post something about it in the forums with a link to it. Off for know. Lates!

So how'd that go mate? How many tracks did ya end up makin for the RPM challenge??

Anyways, this started kinda sudden on the first go 'round (will see if it does it again on the second play, ay).

As for the track, you've done it again little bruv. In fact, I'm thinkin if ya uploaded the synth parts as loops on here they'd get a buttload of downloads.
I'm also thinkin that this'd be super cool to use on my upcoming Looperman podcast (that I should start workin on tomorrow). Lemme know if yer cool with it being used, okay? In close, how long did it take you to come up with this puppy? Later on!

I'm with you- I absolutely love these vocals. Haven't heard the original yet, but this has a super retro quality to it. So your choice of House was a perfect match. Umm, and now for somethin random...

Why does dood's one comment have a line through the last part of the text on it?

Was just going up to re-read the desc when I spotted that. So I fig'd I'd throw it out there.
As for the end cutting off sharply. Hmm, were you meaning the pre-conversion mix or when you were going to load it on here. I'm a bit confussed, sorry. Anyways, if it was a pre-conversion type of thing have you considered breaking the song down into parts? Maybe if your machine had smaller files to deal with it wouldn't go berserk on ya. Just a thought is all.
