on magical thinking prelude by Prelude
I like the first part with just the flute and some reverb best....the delay/echo later does give it some rhythm and a subtle melody...it sounds very clean and light...my favourite flute part (from a long time ago) was the middle section of a song called "Nights in White Satin" by The Moody Blues..I hope someone will add more orchestratiion to this one....keep playing and recording...the more you do it the better you become (and its not difficuilt to record well)....nicely done....Ed

Love this one Soren...you`re right this kind of chill really lets you get the expression into the melody...and you do that well here...I like blues for the same reason....This is just a superb piece of work...really enjoyed...definite fav for me......Ed

Thanks TW.

You're so right about the parallels to blues! Less is more sometimes. A good deal of drummers could take that into consideration, ha ha :-)

Thank you for your kind words :-)

on industrial sleigh ride by DanGoldstein
let it not be said that midispark`s place here on the Loop is where you listen to the mundane everyday musical stuff...def experimental is the truest sence...with a sprinkle of funk keys..and a bucket of creative imagination..& that is an unusual key prog sequence you have going on...would have to be an acquired taste I think as far as listening pref goes but has to be tops of the year for the "Something Really Different" award....way to go midisparks...keep on......Ed

appreciate it Ed. I never really learned my theory as I should have so I've had no choice but to make it up as I go along. I'm glad if I can challenge a bit the SQ, but really my comp has been nurtured on this site by folks like you and a host of others.

on Don t You See Feat Farisha by aelmen
this was an interesting listen Anders....I just finished doing an R&B composition using Farisha`s same acapella (I likely wont post it this year)...you did a fine job my friend...I always find composing around acapellas a bit of a challenge but isn`t it nice when you find one that just seems to fit what you are doing....great fob...much enjoyed...Merry Christmas...Ed

Hi Ed,

You are so right. This was just a lucky shoot that her vocal was on the same base key. I had to cut and paste and time shift, stretch and move around a bit to get it to fit into the beat. It's time consuming but it's really nice when it suits.

Looking forward to your version :)

on CG5 - I Dont Despise - RPS Remix by RealProblemShuckers
I like it RPS...and house isn`t even on my regular listening menu...but this is a cut above...has a nice laid-back kind of feel (almost a touch of R&B)....haven`t listened to the original yet...those hits at 1;21 and 2:31 are really effective....well done......(PS: apologies for not getting back some comments on your last post...I always like to return review when someone takes the time to leave a few words on one of my tracks..but for some reason I just couldn`t get it to play on any of my browsers....)

on Pain You Will Never Know by ScottB55
Listening to this one just makes me graateful we`ve got places like Looperman Scott...I can`t seem to find this kind of musical thoughtfulness on my radio..Yes...the vocal is really good...kind of laid back and the music really just fits to a T (& the little harmony bits)...imaginative choices in the instrumantation....there is a very long list of reasons why...but I just enjoyed listening to this one all the way...super bit of work mate.....Ed

Thanks so much, Ed. Your kind words are greatly appreciated, my friend.

I agree with your radio comment. I don't even listen to the stuff on the radio anymore unless it's an oldies station. I wonder what's happened to the music, or is it we are just use to the best and wont settle for anything less!

Happy Holidays,

on MAGIX HIP-HOP LOOPS AND LYRICS by beerling1970
I stopped by here for some hip hop lessons Steve...you likely know its not on my regular listening menu, but since I`ve been around the Loop I`ve been finding these tracks that take it from the streets it originated on to some other place...and believe it or not its influence some of my own mixes to the point where I have concluded that a good hip hop beat layers in behind my more regular menu perfectly ( it does with most everything I think)...and puts a whole different spin on things...anyway...what I intended to say way...another fine contribution from you...built with your usual talent & creativity & enjoyed by this ol guy on the other side of the pond...good to hear a new one from you mate....great job...Ed

on Danca de Rua by Musicante
With a talent line up like that it should be excellent M.....and indeed it is...very pro playing & production...its the kind of modern approach to jazz (Latin) that I think makes the genre much more accessible to those of us who never really developed an ear for the old jazz standards ...and the fact thats its extra danceable is a bonus...bravo....a big well done to all involved.....Ed

Wow...Thanks so much, Ed. Your kind words humble me, as I'm sure it will my buddies on this project.

I'm glad you are finding a style of jazz you can appreciate. I'll admit, I love all styles of jazz, even the very first, way back in the 20s. Who knows, maybe in time you will start to get into it more. Some great guitarist come from the genre.

on Im Still Here Preview by MOONLYTE
Its obvious you have the writing/lyrics abilities EYEDYE...the vocal delivery thing is one I have never mastered but looks like you are getting some input from our Looperfriends who know more about that than me...I agree with Orlando`s comments about the music/voice combination having a bit of the rock opera vibe...are you using a vocal coach at all??...might be worth a thought if you can find someone...I only mention it as I hear all kinds of potential in the way you combine words & music...and sometimes finding the right genre nitch is a key to falling into that more comfortable zone...my initial observation would be that your style might actually fit a pop music style better??...hope that doesn`t bug you as I mean it in a positive way....just keep at it...I`ve been doing it most of my life & still have a long way to go....good job....Ed
MOONLYTE
MOONLYTE replied 8th Dec 2014 - 11 years ago
Hey ED, I did have a vocal teacher when i was doing some college, but that was months ago. Ive been looking into getting another, but proves to be very expensive haha. Im glad you think that i have tons of potential. And its been troublesome to find my best genre, as i can do most and try all. But more and more i have found myself into a more pop/rock type, so i take no offense at all haha. I can see how you think saying that would offend me, looking at whats considered 'pop' nowadays.
Anyways, thanks for stopping by, and i hope to hear more from you soon :)

on Loops And Stuff by FreeRadical
some really tasty drums here FR...the basic kit in the first section got my attention even though it was not the intended star of the part...bass takes a nice part at the end of the 2nd section..amazing how effective the right kind of bass & bass line can be...like the bit of jazzy-lounge vibe in the last part...oh yes...lots of old school vibe so its got this nice combination of a comfortable feel whils keeping the ears perked for whats next...bet you spent more than a little time thinking this one together...works well & sounds good...and as always its good listening entertainment this afternoon over my way....Ed

FreeRadical replied 8th Dec 2014 - 11 years ago
Hi Ed, cheers for coming round. You are right, it did take quite a while to put together but it's only a case of listening to loops and finding ones that match. I wrote pretty much none of it from scratch so I guess that makes me a big cheat. I don't care though. I figure if it sounds ok then who cares?
Thanks again for dropping in.

on Update3 Dance With You Ft Noemi by SeriouslyJoking
Its got a really nice groove SJ...those little drops/transitions are something I sometimes spend less time than I should on but I think they work well...I didn`t really catch enough of the vocal part at the end to get a good handle on it...I usually try to make sure it is in the same space or a space that is complimentary to the space/atmosphere of the music mix...I like it so far...like you...I do not worry about genres when I am trying to compose and arrange a mix...genres are fine for those who want to abide by a particular set of rules...beat styles etc...but i dont find them useful (so I have to think about how the hell to I classify this when I`m done most of the time)....afraid I woiuld not be a good source of advice on composing habits....I usually have about a dozen compositions on the go...and one I am am focusing on...some times I find a new idea I can use one for...some times I too get sick of hearing something & hit delete so it leaves me free to think of other things...its all fun anyway....but I guess a more diciplined approach would be more productive....keep this one going.....Ed

Ed my friend!
Thanks for taking your time, it's good to know I'm not the only one!

I've worked some more on this now but it's yet far from finished. But at least I'm half way there.
Not sure about the vox going with this style of music but I'll continue on this idea a little more before I decide whether to change the concept or to use an other vox.

Cheers for now!

on Dont Keep Your Love Away Parts 1 and 2 by EricMilligan
oh man Eric....this is way above and beyond good...I am sitting here imagining the kind of thought that went into the arrangement...the George Martin thing is quite prominent in the intro & 1st section & I really like the intricate instrumentstion...but the second part is just out-of-sight good laid-back listening...almost creamy with the rich instrumentation & really emotional progression in the backing...subtle melody development of the kind that creates mind pictures...the outro sounds fantastic & a great lead in to what comes next....If I sound like I`m gushing a bit....I am...no flattery intended...its just music of the finest calibre....Ed
EricMilligan
EricMilligan replied 3rd Dec 2014 - 11 years ago
I'm glad you liked the track, Ed. Yes, quite a bit of thought and experimentation went in to it, although the more I listen to it, the more I realize how simple it is. Used a fair amount of automation to get dynamics with the VST acoustic instruments, but I still have a lot to learn about how to use them effectively. As I told ProgRockDan1, I have not been able to find a singer to do the third section, so this whole thing is stalled indefinitely. Very frustrating.

I remember the day Scott....yeah...I`m way old....I can`t say I was ever a disco fan at the time...I was in the "If it aint rock n roll it aint nothin" mode at the time....but strangely enough it sounds much better today than it used to and my head has absorbed a much wider variety of beats, time sigs, etc...you do everything well my friend...this and all you do is the proof...very extra cool ending.....right on....Ed

No worries, Ed, I'm an old dude, too.

I was right there with you on being a disco hater, but I joined a 9 piece funk/disco band and learned to like it. It was really fun to play and I always love horns in a band. I just got out of the Navy and played allot of marching styles, so I really got into the different style.

Anyway, I appreciate you checking it out and leaving your kind words.

Cheers,
Scott
