I see you just joined Looperman recently...so a big welcome to you EtherBlu...its a great little community of diverse musicians...and what an intro you have posted...you obviously are an experienced musician and producer...this is a great mix...with all the dynamics intact and clear as a bell...fantastic work my friend...much enjoyed over here in my part of the planet....a big well done to you.....Ed
Thanks galore for such a warm welcome Tumbleweed! And yes its indeed a great community, and its great bcoz of all you musicians here. Appreciate for the thorough listen my friend... and thanks again for the wonderful words!
very cool intro...dam Kenny....you underestimate yourself big time...you`ve got the voice for this kind of stuff in spades...love it...got that wee touch of smooth grit that cant be bought....great listening here..and I note you have some very talented company on the trip with just the right kind of contribution in the right spots...this is top notch Kenny....definite fav....Ed
Taat spot at 5 min in hits it big time just when I was wondering where it was going to head.......nice change up around 5:30....I seem to be listening to longer mixes tonight...I dont think I could do one this long without getting a hell of a lot more reperative...this one was a nice easy ride all the way....so what do I think....hell yeah...keep on doing it....Ed
Thanks Ed, I do often wonder if anyone actually bothers to listen to the whole track but i like to squeeze every last drop out of the ten minutes or so that we seem to be allocated. I think it's a lot easier to do when you make electronic stuff as most of it is just looping and layering.
As always thanks for swinging by and commenting on my stuff. I seem to be getting much more downloads than i get comments at the moment which makes it all the more special.
Cheers again!!
FR
interesting EB....I like the movement and appreciate the drops & transtions you have put into vary the listening...but I have to say in all honesty that I did find it really repetative with the same little progression all the way...its really hard to make a mix running over 10 minutes hold attention without a few more changes in either key prog or instrumentation etc...please take my comment as constructively intended EB..I have much appreciation for artistic effortss and would not want to discourage a fellow musician...Keep on doing it your way..........Ed
You definitely have the soundtrack Mark...there are some parts that I think would make it ideal for one of those fantasy or midevil kind of scene sets with the flute sound & vocal pads etc......big mix here...and all sits very nice and clear on my speakers...well...now that Winter is at its worst perhaps it will keep you inside and doing more music....your year is off to a very fine start.....Ed
a big thank you, really pleased you like, and the effect I was trying to create, and yes it will be good to start creating again....and winters a good excuse for a drop or two of the good stuff!
thanks again Ed,
Take care,
Mark
I like the first part with just the flute and some reverb best....the delay/echo later does give it some rhythm and a subtle melody...it sounds very clean and light...my favourite flute part (from a long time ago) was the middle section of a song called "Nights in White Satin" by The Moody Blues..I hope someone will add more orchestratiion to this one....keep playing and recording...the more you do it the better you become (and its not difficuilt to record well)....nicely done....Ed
Love this one Soren...you`re right this kind of chill really lets you get the expression into the melody...and you do that well here...I like blues for the same reason....This is just a superb piece of work...really enjoyed...definite fav for me......Ed
its got that good old soul sound with a wee sprinkle of the funk...great choice of instrumentation...the acoustic kit. walk-around bassloines, keys and organ give it a very real feel thats mising in a lot of todays R&B...very nicely done Musicante...with talent & composiutional skill .....and you have a lot of good company in the mix....enjoyed....Ed
Thanks so much for checking us out and leaving your kind words for us to enjoy. We all had fun with this track, so anyone else who enjoys it is a plus.
let it not be said that midispark`s place here on the Loop is where you listen to the mundane everyday musical stuff...def experimental is the truest sence...with a sprinkle of funk keys..and a bucket of creative imagination..& that is an unusual key prog sequence you have going on...would have to be an acquired taste I think as far as listening pref goes but has to be tops of the year for the "Something Really Different" award....way to go midisparks...keep on......Ed
appreciate it Ed. I never really learned my theory as I should have so I've had no choice but to make it up as I go along. I'm glad if I can challenge a bit the SQ, but really my comp has been nurtured on this site by folks like you and a host of others.
Great track domr....the vocalist is really good (so are the lytics)...has a very live feel and that is always a big accomplishment...well done....much enjoyed.....Ed
this was an interesting listen Anders....I just finished doing an R&B composition using Farisha`s same acapella (I likely wont post it this year)...you did a fine job my friend...I always find composing around acapellas a bit of a challenge but isn`t it nice when you find one that just seems to fit what you are doing....great fob...much enjoyed...Merry Christmas...Ed
You are so right. This was just a lucky shoot that her vocal was on the same base key. I had to cut and paste and time shift, stretch and move around a bit to get it to fit into the beat. It's time consuming but it's really nice when it suits.
I like it RPS...and house isn`t even on my regular listening menu...but this is a cut above...has a nice laid-back kind of feel (almost a touch of R&B)....haven`t listened to the original yet...those hits at 1;21 and 2:31 are really effective....well done......(PS: apologies for not getting back some comments on your last post...I always like to return review when someone takes the time to leave a few words on one of my tracks..but for some reason I just couldn`t get it to play on any of my browsers....)
Listening to this one just makes me graateful we`ve got places like Looperman Scott...I can`t seem to find this kind of musical thoughtfulness on my radio..Yes...the vocal is really good...kind of laid back and the music really just fits to a T (& the little harmony bits)...imaginative choices in the instrumantation....there is a very long list of reasons why...but I just enjoyed listening to this one all the way...super bit of work mate.....Ed
Thanks so much, Ed. Your kind words are greatly appreciated, my friend.
I agree with your radio comment. I don't even listen to the stuff on the radio anymore unless it's an oldies station. I wonder what's happened to the music, or is it we are just use to the best and wont settle for anything less!
Enjoyed the trip again Orlando...my thanks to you...I have been congratulating myself for discovering you HaHa...I repeat the comments in my email...a stellar bit of work again....will be in touch on that question about the themed mixes....didnt get much music time this past year but hoping that will change soon....Ed
I guess the self-congratulative behaviour is mutual...haha...
Thanks alot for stopping by...your support is always most valuable regardless of the fact that we already talked via email...hardly waiting what you gonna tell me about the themed project in your next mail..:)
H TV...just stopped back for another listen & let you know that if you are looking for a decent FREE B3 organ type VST check out one called ORGANized Trio...its not as good as the Native Instrument expensive version but for a free one its pretty dam good...gets lots of good words on the blogs...besides I just enjoyed some good ol blues-rock again....keep on...Ed
Thanks Ed. Sorry I just got to this. Being a UPS Driver means a hectic 6-8 weeks during Thanksgiving to New Years. Appreciate the info, will check it out. Also appreciate you listening.
I stopped by here for some hip hop lessons Steve...you likely know its not on my regular listening menu, but since I`ve been around the Loop I`ve been finding these tracks that take it from the streets it originated on to some other place...and believe it or not its influence some of my own mixes to the point where I have concluded that a good hip hop beat layers in behind my more regular menu perfectly ( it does with most everything I think)...and puts a whole different spin on things...anyway...what I intended to say way...another fine contribution from you...built with your usual talent & creativity & enjoyed by this ol guy on the other side of the pond...good to hear a new one from you mate....great job...Ed
Ed I am learning many things on here and I hope that I am showing Improvement.I found a new home when I stumbled across LOOPERMAN and a new family too :)
hey ronabo...if this is odd...put me down as being highly in favour of odd..haha...its the kind of smooth R&B that you do well...you can`t go wrong with our friend Joe`s company..but this one is your own...its the way R&B should be...really enjoyed this one...guess having listened to several of your mixes, I knew I would before I hit play.....right on.....and the mix sounds just fine....Ed
well....dig out that old cd and do some more Larry....I am a big fan of the original R&B..I have even done a few R&B mixes that are still sitting on my hard drive missing lead melody or vocals..as its not a style that my old guitar stuff fits easily with...I may get one posted some day....nice post....and I could stand lots more.....Ed
well Mr P....I`m a believer that strong emotions and artistic talent are food for the most creative of results...and here you go and prove it again....big, rich, emotion-filled composition....that even causes old guys of my generation to use exclamations we are not noted for...like...beautiful....great job...enjoyed the listen....Ed
With a talent line up like that it should be excellent M.....and indeed it is...very pro playing & production...its the kind of modern approach to jazz (Latin) that I think makes the genre much more accessible to those of us who never really developed an ear for the old jazz standards ...and the fact thats its extra danceable is a bonus...bravo....a big well done to all involved.....Ed
Wow...Thanks so much, Ed. Your kind words humble me, as I'm sure it will my buddies on this project.
I'm glad you are finding a style of jazz you can appreciate. I'll admit, I love all styles of jazz, even the very first, way back in the 20s. Who knows, maybe in time you will start to get into it more. Some great guitarist come from the genre.
classic good funk Carrol....enjoyed this one big time...have to agree with Eric...like the vocal bits you have here but you could really nail a funky vocal for this one...way to go....Ed
Its obvious you have the writing/lyrics abilities EYEDYE...the vocal delivery thing is one I have never mastered but looks like you are getting some input from our Looperfriends who know more about that than me...I agree with Orlando`s comments about the music/voice combination having a bit of the rock opera vibe...are you using a vocal coach at all??...might be worth a thought if you can find someone...I only mention it as I hear all kinds of potential in the way you combine words & music...and sometimes finding the right genre nitch is a key to falling into that more comfortable zone...my initial observation would be that your style might actually fit a pop music style better??...hope that doesn`t bug you as I mean it in a positive way....just keep at it...I`ve been doing it most of my life & still have a long way to go....good job....Ed
Hey ED, I did have a vocal teacher when i was doing some college, but that was months ago. Ive been looking into getting another, but proves to be very expensive haha. Im glad you think that i have tons of potential. And its been troublesome to find my best genre, as i can do most and try all. But more and more i have found myself into a more pop/rock type, so i take no offense at all haha. I can see how you think saying that would offend me, looking at whats considered 'pop' nowadays.
Anyways, thanks for stopping by, and i hope to hear more from you soon :)

You're so right about the parallels to blues! Less is more sometimes. A good deal of drummers could take that into consideration, ha ha :-)
