Yea, I can dig this... I feel like the guitars just come in and their gone. They're a little quiet too, I'd mix em a little higher, and let em play a little longer. Keep at it!
Really really well done. I really changes about halfway through. As everyone has already said, fits together really nice, beautiful warm quality to all the instruments, and complex, without being too busy. Salud!
I really like these more "mechanical" sounding songs. Dubstep is pretty new to me still but I really like the style of this one. Especially the samples. Fav'd
Whatever the genre is, I like the sound. Industrial Doom/sludge seems like a pretty accurate description to me. Very heavy, love the minimalist drums. The bass drum especially has a killer dirty sound to it. Goes well with the guitars too.
Love love love this man, agree that it has a very western feel... As someone whose background is in all acoustic instruments these are the kind of things I've just never had the balls to record and put up on a site like this. What's the chord progression on this bad boy?
I gotta say nice track. I agree with dung that just a little addition/subtraction would really make it pop. Forget hate like Mrbillion, he just can't dig more spacey tracks like this. Love the snare too. Nice and dirty sound you used.
thx for your review!
you are right some changes the the beat could be good. but i have got a real problem, i often haven't got the patience to finished a beat right. i start to begin new tracks. i have got over 1000 startet projects!
Short, sweet, fantastic bassline and is that drum track a real kit? sounds like one and if so that's some tight chops on whoever that drummer is. Cool piece.
Soooo relaxing... I love this arrangement. Too many Jazz tracks on here have really synthetic sounding drums, or just sound like some straight up Kenny G elevator music (sorry to any Kenny G fans out there, the man may be good, but I do NOT like his style) This on the other hand was smooth smooth smooth. First Looperman Jazz track I've really gotten into. thanks.
He mate thanks, sorry for the late reply..I feel the same way about Kenny G it must have been his association with Michael Bolton maybe! lol..cheers buddy and thanks for the support..planet :)
thanks for taking the time to check out the riviera rockers, if we can help spread the word of DUB and inspire others .then jah gave us the light ..EACH ONE TEACH ONE. ROCKERS
So downloaded. I love the raw gritty sound it has. It almost feels like an analog recording which is just super tight. I also like where it touches on almost DnB. I don't just download or fav anything, but this one is definitely a keeper... Has anyone gotten back to you on vocals yet? If not I might be tempted to join the party...
Yo Scythe, Sick track, but actually my first reaction was the same as woundedbuffalo... I feel like the drums... Lack something? I feel like they're almost too muted or not quite as full as they could be. I guess I Like the beat, I even like the drums for an intro, but I feel like they really need to "kick in" at some point to really make this beat groove. Otherwise, those strings in thumbjam? damn son, what settings were you using if you don't mind me asking? I'm still having trouble with exporting sounds and the copy/paste function, but I'd love to how you use thumbjam so well...
Regardless of whether you change the drums, it's a keeper. Way to push the Itech
*Edit as far as the drums go, I think just adding over the top some bass with some "boom" and maybe a really tight clap over the snares would do wonders. Just a thought though
Yup, Im actually hearing it too now that Ive read your's n Wounded's perspective. Im going to go ahead and try and get more punch from them. As for Thumbjam, I commonly use minor scales because they sound much more sorrowful, which is a tone I really dig. I also do a lot of comboing between melodies and chords to really give the strings some depth.
Other than that, Id say just let the sound take you man. Most of the stuff I make, when it comes to melody, it's always just been me rolling with what feels right. I swear, sometimes I think Im getting possessed by my own mind and it's doing things I just can't explain haha.
Try just improving, having fun you know? and then build on it. Also, use both of those thumbs man, trust, it adds a lot of flavor to the sound coming from TJ.
As for the issues, take a vid yeah? send it to broken.scythe@yahoo.com and ill take a look and see if I can help.
Thanks for listening Thanx! Im going to go check a track of yours right now man.
techno is definitely not my genre, but Looperman has opened me up to lots of electronic music I never listened to before, and this track is just something else... I love the use of vocal sampling, it all fits together sooo smooth. I guess as a drummer, I agree with the first review asking for a little bit more on the drums, but as I said I know nothing of techno really so far be it from me to judge... But seriously, this is something different. A+
Thank you. This is the only techno song I have really made. It was actually one of my first ever beats. It was fun to do, and I may add more to the drums, but putting the cut vocals together took about 5 hours to get right. I am glad you enjoyed it
Oh man, there are some things I'd love to do to this music... mostly have sex and smoke joints. I almost wish it had a little light scratching over it, but it's still totally a fav as it is!
Thanks for the review. Haha yea man. Now that's a reachable goal right there. Couldn't agree more with the scratches. Some real ambient scratch textures would be cool. This track still plays in my ipod alot so I might finally dust it off and update it. Been saying that for over a year now though. Just a lazy mofo sometimes though lol. Thanks and Cheers :D
Ahhhhh! My god your tracks drive me crazy with how tight they are... I gotta pick your brain on these percussion loops some day. Are these mostly loops? What kinda synth's do you use. This track has a very Aphex Twin feel, with it's super bouncy melody and downright dirty percussion... Total win for me.
lots of resampling and plugged into a sampler. but yeah, i made most of it. the drums are actually an REX'd loop so i could edit it in any way i wished (in otherwards, instant glitchiness, stretch, and i dont have to muck about to find the right drumkit either). but yeah, that isnt the first time i've been told i sound like Aphex Twin, minus well call me the dark twin. pick away if you can though, i dont know what im doing right or wrong, but if you want to try and interview me about it sometime go right ahead
I agree that the percussion is pretty fly. It seems to have a more major tonality than a lot of the dubstep tracks I hear here, but then again I'm no expert. What software do you use?
thanks for the review man. yeah i dont really let the genre get in my way I just kinda go with the flow. its not a normal dubstep type track, but the wobble is there :) i use reason 5( just recently got this, upgraded from 4..ITS AMAZING!! )
I'm always intrigued to see people that put up acoustic tracks, and the melody for this on is just fantastic. I agree that a bassline would complement this track nicely... But it also sounds great as is.
As a harp player, I love this track! It really has a lot of feeling man. You have a much more organic and real sound than I'm used to hearing here... which is what I feel more comfortable with myself. Well done!
Thanks so much for your listen. I think I do tend to like more organic sounds with feeling. That's cool my friend that you play the harp. I like it's sound lots. Thanks again.
Gord
Considering your resources (and I know what it's like to have very limited resources at your disposal) this sounds really good. My only criticism is a bit of the percussion stuff, really mostly the weird shaker/highhat sound that gives it a sort of computerized synth edge that to me detracts from the rest of it. Maybe you can find a nice sample of a really sizzly ride cymbal, or something that sounds a little more natural? It only bothers me so much because it seems to be pretty persistant the whole song and by the end I really wished it was something else. Rhythmically it's fine... I'd just say find another sound to replace it.
You're right about that percussion sound. It was kind of nagging on me as well. Taking your suggestion and will tweak with something different. Thanxs.
I really like the melody line, the whole song has almost a classic 16 bit video game quality feel to it, and I mean that in a good way.
I'm curious how much of this is samples, how much you produced yourself, especially when it comes to the melody line! Great track!
I'm interested in messing around with some drums/bass to add, maybe lyrics too... Mind telling me the key and BPM So I don't have to waste time figuring it out on my own? I really love the piano especially, and if you have that track separate I'd love to mess with that as well. If not totally understand. Great somber tone though, I really like the pacing and spacey guitar.
Thanks for the listen and review of my track. By all means use any of my tracks in your production, regarding the BPM its sort of ad-lib. Starts slow and builds up, truth is I hate that metronome thing, prefer to do things with a more live feel. I got wav files of original tracks using Cubase Essential 4, so if you let me have your e-mail I can send direct. If the files are too big I use an uploader service (sendspace) where you can upload any file up to 300mb, then get the link & download. Send me your e-mail and let me know, Cheers. Daniel
I really like this one too... Although I guess as a bit of a hip hop head I can totally see a nice fat beat getting dropped after a little while. But I like the quality of it (like compositional quality not quality of samples or whatever)
