on "come set us free" by lowblow
first of all: it's a brilliant song!!!
very very good composition and arrangement, well thought out track ...
the balance of the mix could be a little better though, the snare is very loud (louder than the vox!!) and the drum sound over all is too bassy, I would thin out the lower frequencies a little bit ... bass guitar is heavy compressed, too much for my flavour, of course this could only be a matter of taste, but it's also way too loud ...
these are all technical issues, the playing of the whole band is fantastic, timing is perfect, guitar is very good!!!
normally I don't review that detailed, but your high level forces me to do it this time ....
awesome work!!!

hey, heard this beauty on your myspace, slipped completely under my radar here on looperman ....
so thank you for your comment, otherwise I would have missed another brilliant song!!!
you already know how much I like your music, so I only say keep on doing your thing, and if you only have half of the fun with your music as I have you must be a lucky man ...

on Sinful Pleasures of OZ by iDude
hey dude!!!
you reached a fantastic level in the meantime ... your skills in mixing and arranging are really impressive!
though you've turned to the electronic genre it's still audible that you're basically a rocker, your songs are still rocksongs, but your soundscapes are so creative, this makes your work extraordinary ...
in the end you simply make damn cool music!!!

Thanks Man. I was going back listening to some of my mixes from last year. They are missing so much bottom end and in general the mixes are not as great as they could have been. I still remember downloading Music Maker with the intention of just recording song ideas. Sort have been pushing myself more and more with mixing and arrangement lately. Sort of fun playing around with electronic composition because it's so different from playing music out live in a band.

I hated french in school, but I love to listen french in music!!!
especially female french vocals make songs sound so fragile, which is very attractive ... at least for my ears ...
great!!

on Wait for Sleep by alkie
hey, you got a real good voice!!!
and the song is awesome too ...
though I would reduce the short delay a little bit ... sometimes the sound gets too sharp (especially the vocals when you use a word with an "s"), and that's a sign that reverb and delay are set too high ...
but that's a technical thing ... the song is absolutely great, top composition and arrangement!!
love it ...

thanks rei, the composition and arrangement are all down to Dream Theater it`s their song. The piano was done by a guy on you-tube and i added the vocals. As for the delay and reverb. I have it set to my normal 50 milliseconds and my plate reverb is only on at 1% mix, the vocals were recorded 3 times once in stereo which i left center and recorded right mono and left mono, which i panned each 60% opposite with my delay on the left. If i redoe this in the future i keep in mind what you said....... thanks again.

on Rock My World by Randall822
Randy, this one cries for vocals!!!
I wouldn't compare it with the Black Crowes, it's too straight and too less bluesy, but The Cult springs into my mind ...
awesome work buddy ...

Hi ya Rei,

Nice to wake up in the morning and get another nice review from you and others,
Thanks for stopping by, it is much appreciated.

If you'd like to put some vocals with it, your certainly welcome....or anyone else here for that matter.
I was trying to capture what was in my head for the uultimate rock tune. I think I got it. Maybe a little Hammond B3 organ sound, which I have access to, would have rounded it out?

Thanks again Rei,
Randy

Hello Rei,
Haven't heard from you in awhile. Am glad you came by and listened to another tune I arranged. These are the type of tunes I like, the sound, the chords, everything actually. Makes me feel good inside when I am done....I guess like the red wine your speaking of?

I had fun putting this together and hearing all the reviews thus far, just makes it all the more worthwhile to me in the end. So I am happy that it makes you also want to grab your guitar and jump in and play along. Means I have done my part.

I check out a ton of loops before I decide on which ones have the potential to fit together for an idea I have in my head, if I am not making a tune of my own from scratch.

Of course on all of mine, I use a drum set from Betamonkeymusic.com. This isn't a plug for them, but all their drums are recorded live and sound so real.
I never did get around to buying a drum machine like others have once I got those.

I have another tune simular to this I am working on and it will have more a rhythm section in it so people can play along easier and add in their own lead. I know poeople like to do that including myself, so we'll see what happens.

But that won't be for a couple weeks...or before the end of this year. I am not the type that can do a song overnight! I take my time and try to do it right so I can be proud of showing it off to the world. Afterall, my name is on it!
Thanks again Rei,
Randy

on Kanon in C, New Martin by blairrock957
yeah, this baby sounds wonderful!!!
you're a happy man at the moment, right??? it's great when dreams come true ...
I once had the chance to play a very expensive Taylor ... the first chord was like a sunrise, it was unbelievable, I almost startet to shiver ... so a Taylor is my dream ...

back to your song ... it's a very beautiful piece, reminds me of the times of my classical education, there's nothing better than playing things like that to improve your technique, I still do it myself from time to time ...
well done Blair!!!

thanks for listening. I love the guitar more as I play it. I also find that type of soft fingerpicking soothing to my soul. I'm working on lyrics with a Roy Orbison sound and style to them. I hope I can do it justice when I get around to it.
