on My Mondays Be Like by VicaMOOR
I totally love the idea of this track! Although I am disabled and unemployed at this point, my wife still works, and she works every friday through sunday.... this means that to us, Monday is the first day of the weekend. It's very strange having this unusual feeling on Monday, when everyone else is angry and depressed all day... they even pick up our trash on Monday, it doesn't get any better than that, as long as you stay inside! Super cool interesting idea! As you have offered, I will be downloading this for when I start drinking before noon on Monday. Thank you for sharing this! Fave!!!

Aw man, Spivkurl. I don't feel worthy of your praise! lol But thanks for your feedback. It actually made my friday. Glad you liked it. And yea, download that. Share it with everyone :) haha. We got to try to look at our Mondays different. At least we're alive!

How did I miss this amazing piece! Very cool collaboration! Crazy high frequency stereo synths in here, love it. Oh, and it's downloadable! Thank you for that! Loved reading the lyrics, and your influence is fully evident in this finished product! One of new favorites here on the site!

Thank you!

Your reply was really inspiring. I am not sure I had a quite proper understanding on all the tricky techniques you applied by making that tune though haha. Thanks again for nice inspiration and discussing the details!

I used Microbrute in here (so far it is on the left channel only - I will need probably to get different cables to fix that) so there's some amount of analogue sound present. Not sure about the Electro label here - I do not listen too much to the proper Electro music - let us say it is my original/experimental take on Joe's acapella...

I am really happy you liked what I did here!

Thank you once again for nice words and the fave! As always it is much appreciated.

on Tongue Tied - Ft Dikaiko 1 Hr Challenge Update by BradoSanz
I did not hear this before your update, but the recordings sound impressive, especially considering you were limited on time. Has a good feeling throughout the song. I found the whole thing a bit on the loud side, judging by my speakers barely being turned up at all. Things were pretty clear in the mix though, so I have to give you that. I'm happy that I finally got around to hearing this, as it's a well written and performed song.

Regardless of what other's have mentioned, I find that the vocal is a good fit for theme of this music. A good bass line would definitely push it up a notch. Since you used a hip hop sort of vocal, I would love to hear a cool portamento accent synth in spots to give energy to the vocal bars. Legality could definitely be an issue here, so just be careful. I like the basic idea and mix you've done here, and I look forward to hearing to progress!

on Klandestyne and Searo K Sine Opsis by Klandestyne
Not familiar with Searo from what I remember, but this is a fab dance-tech piece so far! It's interesting hearing you mention "roll out drums" - that last song you commented on off mine contained a modified instrument called "roll-up" drums... is there any relation? Just wondering what you meant by the phrase. I like the mellow energy of this one, it's perfect for this rainy buzzed moment in time. Working on a new portable drum synth in recent days, and I could see it lending itself to a style like this. I love that subtle synth accent around 3:13... groovy and trippy, makes me listen ever harder. Fun old style synth music, love it! Fave!

on Life Gets In The Way by topvega
Very fun track to listen to! Regarding the title, you are so right that "life gets in the way!" This is the biggest reason why it is taking several months at a time to release each track I do lately, so many obstacles. I work hard to make my art a priority, but that is not always enough. As is the case with many of your songs, the guitars are the focus, and the most special part... I love how these are played! I am not a fan of things like addictive drums, or superior drummer in most cases, so you'll have to forgive me that preconception. I think of them in a similar way to virtual synth presets - they are standard to the point of being done to death. Regardless, the rhythm was excellent, mostly due to your guitar work. I like the dirtiness that you have incorporated, even though some of it seems unintentional. Personally I've been trying to get back to incorporating real amplifiers and effects in my guitar work... it gives me less temptation to use presets and over-process my guitar parts. Thank you for sharing this awesome tune!

Thanks for all the kind words my friend. Always nice to get some positive feedback. Yeah I need to sit down and really try and fine tune the whole drum thing. I think if I took the time to EQ and mix all 16 tracks of the Drums and add the right touch of effects I can get them to sound good. Will be working on that.

Thanks again for giving it a listen and leaving some kind words.

on ARENT YOU CLEVER ft LAURIE WEBB by lechina
Interesting pop style track for sure! Some one mentioned the mp3 quality already, and I was going to mention it as well. I get the impression that the main drum loop was an mp3, though it may just be artifacts overall from the mp3 encoding... there are a lot of artifacts in this render though, to the point where it sound like a real audio or WMA file from 15 years ago. I think the arrangement is nice, and the underlying mix sounds decent for a start. I like those vocals you found. I never used FL7 much, but I seem to remember some of these samples from back in the day. I'm thinking without the mp3 artifacts, this would sound pretty cool. The upload limit is 10 MB here on looperman, so I'm sure you could encode it at higher quality, though that wouldn't get rid of any artifacts from mp3 samples/loops used. I enjoyed listening!

Thank you for the sweet comment man, really appreciate.Actually the song itself was not mastered or cleaned up.I did create the beat but never check the volumes and stuff when saving the song.So the quality you hearing is the volumes running into the RED CLICKING SOUND on the mixer therefore causing all the mess.I posted another ver of the song with a better quality sound, no clicks'. Thanks for the listen pal

on Romulus and Remus ft Stohgs and Phatkatz by DanGoldstein
Interesting vibe to this song! Very Audiosparks to my ears! When I noticed the title, I was actually thinking of Star Trek, but that's okay, ha ha. The babies are super scary, both in the art and the music, but that's just me. I like the organ sound, it's very prominent in parts. What sort of aspects did Stohgs add to this track? I think it's a really good effort you all joined together in! Fave!
DanGoldstein
DanGoldstein replied 7th Sep 2015 - 10 years ago
the wolf howl and babies are pure phatkatz. it is the music box melody that is courtesy of designed impression and then later the organ. It seems I did not really write much of this at all!

on Clear Skies by LosCoz
Has that classic deep house vibe to my ears, though I'm no expert. Good flow is what I hear. It's sad that you lost all of your projects due to the computer problems. It's things like this that made me get an external HD recently, so I'd at least have some chance of saving things... after all I've been collecting my sample collection for like 15 years now! I like the relaxed vibe in this, and it gives me just a touch of feeling of Bool's CD "All Night" which is one of my faves. I could see this being a lot better even if you would back off the threshold on the compressor/limiter and use the headroom. I bet you could increase the volume by 10-20 dB without losing any of the peaks to clipping. Very unique creative track though! Fave!
LosCoz
LosCoz replied 29th Aug 2015 - 10 years ago
Thank you Spivkurl! Yeah it's a shame I lost my stuff (and it's not the first time), but I always manage to rise above the ashes somehow and my next productions are even better than before. But as you mentioned, an external HD is very important and that's where I'll be saving my projects from now on, I just wish I had known it sooner. I can't imagine how I would have reacted if my sample collection had been in the making for 15 years and got lost like that! I probably would have quit music altogether! Luckily for me I only lost the project files and not the actual samples which I keep in an external HD. I have some mixes I managed to master which sound decent so I hope to upload those in future.

I hear you on your compressor/limiter analysis. I tend to be overly cautious when it comes to clipping, but your observation is duly noted.

I appreciate the positive review and thank you for taking the time to listen!

Hey, this a future Kikajon classic to my ears! Very cool walking beat feel, and that telecaster sounds very sweet! I've always wanted to jam with one of those, but then I think about the effect it had on my first three piece band back around 1994... I still have the epiphone les paul that my friend smashed so his parents would buy him a tele, ha ha! Always liked the sound we had before that better. I guess I got a free damaged guitar out of the deal. The Tele's do have a killer pop-rock sound to them though. Impressive that the vocals were improvised. I always find that hard to do, especially without a bunch of chopping and editing later. Totally cool track! Fave!

Hey Spiv! It's kind of fun how a guitar can change the way you play. I would never have made this song on my stratocaster. I've never used a les paul, I were more into explorer or the flying v.

Interesting to hear this! It actually does remind me of something a stripper might dance to, though my only reference is from television and film. I was trying to wrap my head around the tuning that you mentioned... since it sounded like the standard six string tuning, aside from the flat. Do you mean that the high E was flat, or do you mean that all strings were slightly flat from 440Hz? I did a song on my last album which was standard tuning, but to 432Hz, so I was curious if it meant something such as this. It was funny when I did that guitar recording, I finished the orchestration much later. Wondered what sounded off about it, then I remembered how I tuned the guitar! Adjusted everything else to match (praise the gods for synthesis), and then it sounded good again. I don't know, just wondering. I like the vibe of the track, even with the short length. Nice work!

Although your comment on my track was just a link to this unrelated piece, I felt the need to return the favour. This has good points and bad points, but nothing extreme in either direction which would make me love or hate it. Sounds like a lot of loops to me. Since you don't seem to care about self promotion, I'll hit you up with my new life industrial techno... https://www.looperman.com/tracks/detail/169752

This is fun to hear! Are these your and your girlfriend's voices? Very cool and creative stuff! It's especially enjoyable to me, as my wife and I are working towards new releases for Iris-T-Shirt, which is our band. We haven't released anything for like twelve years, and we weren't married at the time. Aside from the clipping, I think this sound awesome. With some different instrument choices this could easily be industrial. Nice work!

on I cant make you love me featuring Lisa Worth by RichieWinn
Just as when you visit my page to hear some high tempo electronic, I am out of my element when listening to a song like this. I don't know the original either. What I can say is that the recording on this sounds very high quality, and conveys the idea that you know exactly what you are doing and what you want to hear in the final product. Clarity and realism are to be found throughout this piece. Like I said, I don't know the song, but I bet Ms. Rait would be proud of those involved in this cover. Enjoyed the listen!

Hi and my apologies for taking so long to get back to you. I'm just catching up on the Loop.

Thank you so much for your comments and yes we sometimes do find ourselves out of our comfort zones with genres of music not familar to us but it's reassuring to know that the qualities I pursue in my work are regarded and noticed. It's very rewarding to hear them. Thank you.

This is pretty cool, especially considering ambient is not my drug of choice. I think you've created a great background track here, and I think that is what most of the best modern ambient is limited to. Interesting choice of sounds to fill the spectrum, and very cool stereo field. I could see this fitting in well in a dramatic film. It seems that you've been trying some new things, and I applaud you for that. This has moments that remind me of depeche mode, and that makes me happy. Enjoyable listen in all aspects! Fave!

Yeah exactly what i was going for. something not soo in your face just something for the background of a game or film like you said.

"It seems that you've been trying some new thing"
Yeah ive been experimenting with different genres and different kinds of sounds seeing what i come up with.

"moments that remind me of depeche mode"
Haha yeah ive heard that before, cant remember if it was from yourself. Dont know how that happens though, i dont listen to alot of Depeche Mode.. ill need to get listening though haha

Thanks for the feedback spiv :D

I finally got a moment to listen to the update you've done here. While I still enjoy this style of the composition and sounds that you've used, I have to be honest - I think I like the mastering of the earlier version more. I find this one is very heavily focused on the mid range. It is definitely a matter of personal preference, but I don't usually enjoy that in electronic genres, and even in most rock music. This may be part of the "boxiness" which Mahloo spoke of. In general, the impression I got was this being a bit more lifeless and narrow. Please don't take these as insults at all... you have asked for feedback, and I like to be honest with feedback, especially regarding mixing and mastering. With sounds, especially synth sounds which are strong in the whole spectrum, I tend to do a wider mid range scoop. This would more often be in the mixing stage though. Since I do it wide, I will focus on areas from say 300Hz to 650Hz, depending on the source material. Be sure to use your ears with this, and not so much other senses. You can start with a deep cut to sweep the frequency setting, but it will sound more natural if you do a more shallow cut after finding a good sounding range. One of the reasons I do this, is that these frequencies are very audible to most humans, they are present in most types of sounds in music, and the overall mix will sound muddy if all channels are left untouched in this range. An added benefit is that it will often allow raising of the volume of the channel or overall mix, with a result that lower and higher frequencies are more present without processing them a lot. Hope that makes sense. Keep working and you will get the results you want!

Hey, this is pretty sweet! Are you doing vocals personally, or do you just have a pella in mind or something? Curious to hear it with vocals for sure. Had to move my tall boy out of the way of my speaker to hear the full stereo effect, it sounded very good. Some classic synth sounds here. You wouldn't be using Analog Factory at all would you? Several of these sound seem covered by that rompler's list of patches. Just curious, because for a rompler I find that one quite comprehensive. Thanks for sharing the cool instrumental!

Hey spiv thanks man :)

Na they are being done by a local singer songwriter.

The synths are nearly all the Korg 'MonyPoly' from the old Korg Digital collection. I bought it about 10ish years ago and still love it. With a Ableton Operator as the sub i think.

I do have the analogue factory tho, very nice plug in some epic pads and bass's in there.

Thanks again man :)

Hey, this is cool and sounds good! I'm not too into dubstep any more, but this has a unique quality, in that it is not the generic pop dance oriented stuff. I like the unusual bass sounds you used as well. As far as the mastering goes, I can't complain at all, especially considering it was done with stock FL plugins. I think the overall volume is good, as I have room to turn it up if I want, but it's not so loud that I have to turn my speakers almost all the way down. You know... balance. I think for a simple EQ/limiter master such as this, a big improvement would be to procure and use a linear phase sort of EQ as opposed to PEQ2. There has been much talk on the image line forum about the possibility of PEQ3 being developed. Hopefully it will be linear phase like some more advanced plugins out there. An added bonus would be mid/side options, but I'm not holding my breath on either of these. But sorry to ramble... I like your song and how you made it sound.
EphyMusic
EphyMusic replied 14th Aug 2015 - 10 years ago
Well thanks, Spiv! I mainly used Parametric EQ 2 so I could get rid of pesky sounds that were only around in one area of the spectrum. Sounds I liked, but if I turned them down, they'd lose their quality or become nearly inaudible, so I used it to just dip down that specific area, keep it from resonating so loudly. The bass and the kick were especially hard for me to manage. I learned that it is better to sacrifice kick volume for bass volume when you're looking for a heavy bass sound, and I ended up using some pretty punchy kicks, anyhow.

As for the Basses, There was the basic sub in there, there was a gnarled bass sound that was FM'd to hell, and then that there wobble was just a re-purposed Grand Piano preset in Sytrus. I find a lot of cool uses for presets, I find.

Anyhow, thanks again, Spiv.

This is quite old style to my ears, like some hip hop from say 91-93 or so. I'm no expert, but that's where it hits me. One of my favorite times for pop hip hop... the last ten years or so is good for more underground hip hop/rap I think. I noticed your profile mentioned Roni Size, haven't heard any of that in a while, used to really dig it. Very cool sampling/scratching in this track! Don't know of HMS, but I like the rhymes here. Groovy bass line which gives me some energy. Very nice work! Fave!

Simply spectacular trance effort here! I actually feel like the orchestral/string elements give this a mostly modern feel throughout, but the are moments where they are not as present when it sound more like 10-15 years ago trance to my ears. Either way, it makes for a good combination. The drums are simple, but they make the point of the rhythm and drive. Mix sounds quite pleasing to me, and when this began it enticed me to turn it up... pretty much always a good thing in my books. Ear pleasing and too the point, I like it! Fave!

This is okay, and no you're not the first person to sample porn on electronic music. That sampled "guitar" sounding stuff is really far to artificial sounding, and you referred to this as natural sounding. You need to learn about velocity and key scaling to make things not so repetitive and unnatural. The dubstep parts sound fine and normal though. Sorry I need to go barf or something.

Very cool track! I saw you mentioned liking "violator" from depeche mode, and I can definitely hear that influence in this. Has a late 80's vibe to the electronic sounds and the tempo/rhythm. Hey, this is interesting. I'm liking the sample drums quite a bit, aside from there being very little center channel information. The wobble bass I am not a fan of, as it is very static throughout. Some automation, velocity tracking, or key tracking could really liven that part of it up. I think this has much potential, so keep at it!

on Beat Demo by ChaseMercata
Hey, it's a start! It takes time to learn how to compose. Keep in mind, a "beat" is synonymous with a "rhythm"... but that is not the same as a song. Take it one step at a time. You mentioned kicks on 1 and 2, and snares on 2 and 4... Not entirely sure about standard hip hop drums, but a kick on 1 and 2 only might sound a bit empty as far as a rhythm goes. 2 and 4 for the snares is definitely the most common pattern for 4/4 time signatures. If you are recording MIDI from a controller, don't be afraid to use quantize functions or manual editing for timing or note information. It can be difficult to get the timing right, especially if your system has a lot of latency (delay on recording/input). The sounds you chose sound good, just seems that you need to practice, which is what you are doing. Keep at it!
