on Nature Haunts with Pete Tebar by DanGoldstein
Hey this is nice! Has a very classic sample-based feel for my ears. If I said it sounded like industrial, then I would feel like the people who tell me that my minimal techno stuff sounds like industrial, so I will refrain... oops I guess I crossed that line already! I see you already have a colab partner, and I'm eager to hear where this goes! Ambient has so many different meanings depending on the artist and the listener, which does make it interesting. This is a good theme for the artwork which you linked to. Very fun to hear, and I look forward to any enhancements!

well the FL Studio fx are classified as industrial so I don't mind you picking up on that. Pete Tebar joined the fun and he developed a groove that moves things into a new section (and out again) pretty well. The latest upload is the rough cut of Pete's work and he has kicked the ball to me so very much still in progress. I think we might find a new bit of art for it since Halloween promotion is through! Thanks, Pat.

Very well written song, and the performance is sincere and special! It has your style throughout, and that always means a large amount of personality. I have known quite a few people who have to live with this issue you speak of. It is good for you to learn and know yourself, as well as trying to help others understand. As far as the medical side of things, I am always so sceptical about the industry's explanations, diagnoses and treatments. This is probably partly due to living most of my life in the home of the Mayo clinic. I tend to look first at the underlying causes which may not be apparent. This seems discouraged in medicine, as well as in the forever hugging love affair between the government and the corporations. Only bringing up the thoughts which your song raised in me, and I will stop there, as I tend to offend people... you are definitely not some one who I wish to offend! I enjoyed the song thoroughly, and I love your honesty! Fave!

Thanks for the gentle words Spivkurl
Nice to read that you definitely don't wanna offend me.

To be honest, I'd been attacked for this text.
Honesty is not seen by all happy
and often I am also sorry to justify my honesty
But that does not mean I'm going to change it

when I try to explain that an unselfish act does not exist, then most people feel attacked. only because they calculate with feelings and do not perceive that a posetives feeling has a posetive value .........

And i think that you are right when you believe that it isn't a good idea to trust big corporations and or government. I would say, if you can count 1 and 1 together, then you can't believe that they don't cheat you :)

I always love to read something from your hand.

stay tuned

Reading through things, I found this..."I'm not much of a hooker." Had me laughing to myself for a while! Thank you for that!

Any way, I like your bass playing, as well as the overall theme of the piece. I wondered where the low frequencies were, and then realized my sub got turned down... heh. Still found the bass a bit "Toolish" if that makes sense... I know it's supposed to be a lead though, so I can't fault that.

Does you MIDI controller have velocity sensitive keys? It seemed like the MIDI parts did not vary in amplitude much, and I would have enjoyed those parts far more with more dynamics. Could have nothing to do with that, and be more related to compression or the like.

I had fun listening, and am not going to over analyse this. I tend to anger some people even without trying, and why do that when I know that someone knows both what they want, and what they are doing. Thank you for sharing the song with us! Hope you are well!

Greetings, Sir Patrick.

Funny how important the woofer is when it comes to bass guitar. I believe I will always get the "Tool" comparison, whether I like it or not.

"Does you MIDI controller have velocity sensitive keys?"

Oh, yes. I was using the drum pads a lot and had the "Full Level" on. Velocity means nothing then. I was trying to get some of the drums down and forgot to deactivate it. However, with all the mouse-fixing I did, I should have done something about the velocity. Now that you've said something, I will.

"I tend to anger some people even without trying"

Preachin to the fuckin choir. You should check out the forum thread "Grammar". I made a list of homophones and got an amazing amount of "Indignorance", a word that came about by my shock at the indignation shown by the willfully ignorant.

I am well, as I hope you are in turn.

Hey, I must say that this is beautiful! I've been into folk longer than almost any other sort of music, and I think you've done excellent work in song writing, performance, and recording! Gives me some reminders of Nick Drake, for example, who is one of my favorites. Enjoyed each instrumental part, and your vocals sounded great! I love magnetic tape very much, and would have a lot of fun with an 8 track! Sold my 4 track many years ago, something which I regret a bit. Happy that I found this song of yours! Thank you for letting us hear it! Fave!

Thank you very much! I really loved recording this way. It was much more hands on and allowed me to focus on writing and performance rather than predominantly on production.
I plan to make more folk-style compositions in the future, so watch this space.

on I know you - Purple Squares ft Minette Fourie by promenade2239
Loving this jazzy interpretation very much! The organ and piano make an excellent "duet," if that term works. Very please calm but complex sound scape. Funky, but chilled out. It's always fun to hear how you turn the work of others into something completely new and original, with your own signature, but retaining the artistry of your colleagues. Very pleasing to the ears!

promenade2239 replied 25th Oct 2015 - 10 years ago
Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed the listening!

The organ is directly from Purple Squares which I used to build the whole arrangement around. Funky bassline and the piano were plugins which I played from midi keyboard. Unfortunately I couldnt find more fitting areas from the acapella so the composition feels a bit empty at least to me.
Definitely I will try to record some funk keyboard stuff sometime. Serious grooving takes a hard manual rhythm practise and I am sadly unable to do it at the moment.

Thank you once again! I will try to listen and explore your other works on looperman as soon as I can. I know you have many fine tracks here! Alex

on Feelin Good by Diskonnect
I do love a track that makes me want to move, or get things done, and this has both of those qualities! I'd say that, for me, all of the guitar parts or the feature of this piece. They give a realism that is important, and the groove they create works very well! The drums are potent and danceable. I'm not a super funk fan, but this has a very nineties edge which does it for me. Fun to hear for sure!

Diskonnect replied 25th Oct 2015 - 10 years ago
Hey, the little acoustic funk chord rhythm was the very first thing we made for this, it basically all revolves around that and everything was added after. The guitar groove sounds pretty cool I thought, with all the little 'tick-a-tick-a's'. Thanks for listening!

Oh, it's so good to hear your voice again, and the improvements you have made through life experience! I know that I have heard this theme before, and it makes sense as I used to listen to gypsy music several times a week. I feel for your dark times, as I know that there is so much pain in this current. I'm just happy to run across one of your songs in the rare moment that I feel like listening to streams now. Hello Spivkurl :)
Merci beaucoup for your encouraging and supportive words :)
I used to hang around with gipsy people once and discovered a brilliant culture, be it musical or cinematographic. Just wanted to pay a tribute to those friends.
I'm real happy you know (and recognized that theme, lol).
Thanks again,

Very very short, so I wonder why you posted it, but I can only assume you are making a video game. Just so you know, this track is heavily clipped almost throughout, and it is audible. That's why I downloaded it, to check in the audio editor. Work on that, and develop it into a full song, and you may have something.

Had to leave another comment, and to hear this again. I noticed today that Tumbleweed left a comment relating this to Talking Heads, and that made me so happy! I actually had just spent a little while listening to some random tracks from their albums, then to read that was pleasing. Their earlier work is definitely a huge influence on me, and I have some extremely well played records of theirs in the rack. I can understand the comparison as well, since our varying musical preferences, and the physical distance between us, adds to having a very worldly sound to the product. We've both shown each other new music for listening pleasure, and I think that is often a big part of intuitive collaboration. I know the next song is taking me a lot of time, but I hope to write you with a version this weekend. I think I have the guitar work in place, and I've got secure focus for the vocal part now. Thank you for working with me, and for your patience!

hello again! Firstly I am sorry for not responding to your comment earlier. To be honest writing comments became quite difficult to me last times and somehow it takes me much longer to construct anything consistent too. Also I promise to return to our private correspondence - at the moment all work commitments are simply too demanding and energy-consuming so I am glad I was able to make some new piece of music last days at least. I have some ambitious plans for this Summer regarding performing a series of organ concerts. That last one was a great success and I am really inspired now. Maybe I'll be recording music using organ and synthesizers in the space of church as well. This is all for the future summer months.
At the moment there is a project we need to finish before Eastern - hope I will be more in the condition of practising music when we finish this one. Hard winter here but there is a heating in the workshop so that's ok for making such kind of specific restoration work even.

Also would be great to make or at least try some another collaboration, if you're interested in making music with me at some point in the future.
Thank you for all your support and listening to my music!

Hey, I like the idea of this track very much! Your use of the vocal part is tasteful and interesting. I guess my only problem with this is that the whole song sounds really degraded, as if it is a very low quality mp3 encode. You may want to look into your encoding settings. For a song of this length you should be able to get very high quality under the 10M limit of looperman. Just thought I should mention it. The theme is very cool though. Thank you for using my loop and linking me to the song!

Interesting rendition! Was the inspiration for this taken from NES, or form a more recent version of Zelda? Haven't played anything since then (around '91 or so), so I wouldn't know. I'd probably enjoy it far more if it wasn't this over-amplified, but it is still recognizable. Good effort!

Hey there, this is very cool! I thought I hadn't seen a new song from you in a while, but did not realize it had been this long. All of the instruments really do jam with each other in this piece, something to be proud of! Your guitar is always pleasing to the ear, and the other parts are equally well performed. Like Cruce, I dig the reverb use on this one, subtle but effective. You are one of the most accomplished musicians around here, and I will patiently await your next song! Fave!

In the last months I am a "full-time" daddy, so there's not much space left for music. I still play (more or less) regularly with my "prog-rock-trio" project but recording music is (for me) a very time consuming activity which I can not pursue at the time.
Take care, Domenico

on 08 Enter Streets L I V E ft Venuslove by Eighteen
While I like the idea of the song, aside from it's overly pop influences, I do not think that this is live. Since your description does not state where or how it was recorded, then I think this sort of negates the L I V E in the title. No part of it sounds live, and the crowd sounds seem contrived to give the impression of live. I know that this is not easy to make believable, so you should be proud of that aspect. I just couldn't help but call BS. If I am entirely wrong, you can feel free to correct me.
Eighteen
Eighteen replied 28th Sep 2015 - 10 years ago
You are absolutely right about the pop genre, since I mostly make pop based music, and also about that it is not live.
I have never mentioned that this song is actually live. The name of the song is Enter Streets L.I.V.E.
Purely a song i made for fun with a theme that imitates a live performance. I think it is clear that all the shouts are exactly the same on this tracks, since I used samples. Same goes for the fireworks.
This is a random homemade song like most of the songs uploaded here.

on MSoundTech feat Iti Yati - Im Gonna Be All Right by mstmusic
I find the constant hiss to be a little distracting, especially considering that the only real recording is the vocal part. If it was mastered to cassette or something, I could understand, but I'm sure that it is not. Considering that the "uplifting melody" is probably not of your own creation, it makes me question the originality throughout. I don't like that feeling. I know that I'm being overly critical, but after the remix contest started up, I needed to hear what was really going on. It's like you want remixes of a remix of some stuff you found around the net. Well, keep trying.

"some stuff you found around the net" - it's sad for me after all that long hours spent on making up this track that means a lot for me. I'm the only author. Ripping off others ideas is complete nonsense for me. I wouldn't even call myself artist!

Read my reply to forum post and think about this again. Problem with layer was in broken plugin, not in idea.

Hey there Alex! Finally had a moment to leave a comment here, after listening a few times. I am really impressed by how you developed this idea from the simple clips which I sent! The processing/editing which you achieved with the vocals sound absolutely excellent, and it captures the feelings when recording them. They started out as just a pre-dawn quiet freestyle, then I developed the two loops with MED soundstudio tracker (which I've barely used for many years). I liked the glitchy randomness this imparted to the vocal loops, and you took that to the next level. The whole piece does have a spiritual feeling for me, and I couldn't have done that without you. Your piano and keyboard work is always awesome, and it shines in this track for sure. I thank you for working with me on some things, and I will contact you soon, when my head is in the right place. Amazing work!

promenade2239 replied 26th Sep 2015 - 10 years ago
hey Pat! Thank you for the nice words! I am really happy you liked what I did with this song!
Probably my favourite thing about the original idea was the vocal section. It sounds simply great! I was a bit hesitant to go with that processing even further when writing the piece but it came out naturally as something quite eclectic and strange at the same time. My choice of sounds was selective of course: the piano is only slightly outlining presence of E Mixolydian mode over the E note sort of pedal point (sampled from synth bassline) and at this point I decided to keep everything minimal as possible within that single mode, reverbs on percussions are different for every single layer, it is a sort of spiritual space when combined with hypnotic vocals.
I truly appreciate the artistical openness and your willingness to share some great sounds allowing this unusual piece to appear. Thanks a lot for inspiring me!
Best greetings to you, Alex

Due to my pre-existing mindset, I did not look at the art until just now. I can actually see what you did musically in the art work, and for that you deserve congratulations! One of the only reasons I work on making my instruments look good is that I have trouble with memory especially when it crosses the line between visual and auditory... I think it is due to early life brain injuries. Action is my strongest sense, if you can call it that, so if I can associate action with sight and sound, then it works out usually. I think you've done that well in this case after viewing the art work. I really like the instantaneous nature of this piece, and I think you are progressing in your works substantially. Thank you for your reply and for sharing your works with us!

you always challenge me - whether intentionally or not - to push higher. I spent more time on this one to work it out some more. I appreciate that you sensed some connection with the art. in the end, it is probably pretty subjective although I think there are approaches that work better than others. all the best Pat. Dan

Very interesting expression here! I think I have some amount of difficulty relating to the visual art influenced music because of my own artistic endeavors. When I need to create it is generally either musical or visual, and the only time that they cross paths is when I build instruments.... however, they do not make music unless I use them as an instrument. Then again, there are my old "audio sculptures" which used the pattern blocks in FL to create an image, and a song resulted. Either way, the visual part is a side effect when combined with my music generally. I like the simplicity of the synth lines, and I feel that the whole track could be enhanced over time. Cool to hear some of your new stuff!

usually the art serves as a spring board. on longer, worked out tracks I am also just making music as best I can. this is a good example. the first half does speak to the art for me. as the track progresses, I am really just working out musical ideas and process. And as you say, this one has room to grow. thanks spiv

Interesting style for sure... I'm very curious about your reference to the "ethereal environment." Care to expand on what you mean by having made them in this environment? The sound is pretty good on the bass, but more "wet" than I usually enjoy, especially when I'm designing a bass sound. It's not super stereo though, so that is a good thing. Could be a cool song if you expand and develop it! Thanks for sharing, and I hope you get more feedback!

This is interesting! I'm pretty fond of the arpeggiated synthesizer that you use quite a bit in here. The "complextro" section was not my thing, as it seemed a bit slopped - though the bass in that part had a good low end. The other sections seem very lacking in low frequencies though. Usually if I want to listen to this style of music, I will want my woofers moving. I hope I haven't been to critical, I don't know what else to expect when clicking on an electro track, as it's become synonymous with EDM now (booo). Either way, best of luck with your release!

Hey man! Thanks for the feedback! Guess you can't please everyone though haha

I agree, the track could've used a little more low end, but I find that it still works the way it is.

Also, I wouldn't necessarily consider Electro to have become synonymous with EDM, but closer to Complextro. But sub-genres are stupid anyways lol Electronic music is electronic music

Regardless, thanks again for your input! Hope you'll show your support by purchasing the 'Codera' EP on September 17!!

Don't know if you played the guitar in this, but either way it is refreshing to hear a real instrument in a trap song. I don't really chose to listen to trap generally, but it so much a part of pop culture that it has influenced my songwriting to some extent in the last couple of years. The organ is a super-sweet touch as well... I'm a sucker for organs in any style of music, or just by themselves for that matter! Seems like you are looking for people to use your instrumental, but I think you've got a great start to a song here! Just write some lyrics and go at it! Keep doin it!

Hey, this is a cool first submission of a song for you! I really am digging the acid glitch groove in the looping! You obviously are handling the looping capabilities of DAW's well. Seems like promenare2239 has a bit of competition on the keys around here now, but I'm sure he can hack it, so to speak. Very cool textures in the mid part of the song! For some reason my browser is not showing the wave form for the middle of the track, so I expected to hear silence, but low and behold there is beautiful audio performances in it's place! I like the tribal percussion in this area, it sounds like loops I would use. Great key work! Groovy tune! Please keep at it! Fave!

Hey dude, this is pretty sweet! I'm hearing some flavors that I've come to appreciate from music made by the group "TuneYards." If you haven't heard them, I suggest you check it out on youtube or whatever, they have some cool songs/videos. I'm especially liking the slow attack string parts in this, they add a lot of tension to the mix. I would enjoy the overall song far more if the mastering was eased back a bit... as to turn it up very far I need to risk my ears a bit. I like chill out, and other music forms, to use my amps and speakers more fully rather than be boosted too much before-hand. I love the ideas contained here and the instrument choices! Great song! on Bringing Me Down with Vocals by topvega
Hey man, this is pretty rockin! As always, I get into your guitar style! Also it's cool to hear you jamming on a keyboard. Possibly it is just the drums, but it could be the whole mp3 render - I hear a lot of artifacts in this audio. Is it possibly a very low bit rate for the mp3 render? Why I mention the drums is because I hear the artifacts especially in the high frequency parts, such as the cymbals - but this can also be a common issue with low bit rate encoding. It does not take away from the excellent performances contained here though, just felt it was worth mentioning. You have a lot of talent, and it is shown with tracks such as this!

Thanks my friend for the listen, comments and input. I appreciate the chance to learn about stuff like artifacts and it was definitely worth mentioning. I checked the Master and I think the EQ on the drums was allowing too much high frequency. I brought it down and the drums sound better.
Thanks again for the really kind words of encouragement. I will render it again as soon as I finish off the vocals.

This is sounding pretty cool for a loop based track. Not my favorite style of hip hip instrumental, since it is quite modern, but I can appreciate it as well. It seems like you have left some room for vocals in the mix, so that is a good move. It seems that a few of the loops might be out of key with each other, which is common problem with loop based work... it just takes time to catch it and learn how to fix it. Keep doing what you love!
