Do you not get very annoyed when people bring up chord structures and all that jazz? I know that I have hear a version of this already, but it sounds amazing. What a horrible day, around here any way, but you have made it all okay. Walked six miles for cigars and alcohol today, and it was strange, but hearing this version makes my day more enjoyable. Love it!

Thank you! I think I am still not that very close to so called proper jazz even (unless I am playing jazz from the sheet) - 'jazzy' would be much proper label and in this track there is only some freely ascending /descending progression.
I am glad I made it okay with the music around the looperman last day that way, despite the bad day somewhere anyway! Actually those last few weeks were horrible to me as well and I was driven by some unpleasant 'patterns' of the mind too, making me unable to think positively even about my music. Now all this is gone. It was Sunday that changed a lot - I will explain more when I contact you. It is not that I attained the 'pure self' this time, so do not worry. I think I've made some good spiritual progressions though. After some break from my music-making I was finally able to sit with clarity and open head for sometime and this music came out. I am happy I could help you to feel better. Thanks a lot for a nice review and the fave! A.

Hardcore shit man! Dig it! This is the perfect length for an mp3 and yet LM makes it come up short. Hardstyle at it's finest. Sounds like a tracker!!! Love it much. So not what I expected to hear today, but in fact nothing is as I expected today. What's going on?! Crazy. Faved for sure!

10mb would be great and an option to set our own genres.. I would call mine "Abrasive or Abrasion"

As in the hillbilly trackers from Fallout 3? I agree XD

The Loop seems to be having a mini golden age.. Time to push out the best :)

Hey, this is awesome! StaticNomad and those like him were just not there when the shit went down, so they cannot understand. This is so early nineties, and it's awesome. Makes me look forward to the cure live that I will see in June. We love the music you do, deep and wide. Heavy and heart-full. Love it! Faved!

Well, I'm not really a clubber, aside from punk/grunge clubs of 20 years ago, but I can appreciate this. After grabbing a pad based midi controller, I am getting into this sort of rhythmic programming. It doesn't sound totally modernized, so I can really appreciate that! It seemed kind of limited in it's scope, but I know that software will do that. Keep at it!

on FoUrTeeNK - Excuse Me by FoUrTeeNK
This sounds pretty awesome! I like the more gentle mastering of this, and the power of the vocals is just about right for the dynamic range. Has a bit of an underground feel, and I can't complain about that. Those delayed high hats give a cool ambient atmosphere. Deep track! I like it!

Had to hear another of yours after that other track, and I'm glad I did, as this is another enjoyable one! Sounds a bit miami house to me, but what do I know?! Good swing to the delays, which lend to good groove and atmosphere. The vocals are not my favorite sort, but at the same time a song like this would be lacking without them, so I appreciate them for what they are. The arrangement and mix is working well for my ears! I might have backed of the threshold on the dynamic mastering, but it sounds pretty good this way as well... more radio ready at least. Had fun listening!

on Modnex - Sunshine wip by Modnex
Was reading your description during the intro... when I got to the part about "Steal My Sunshine" being an old song, I finally realized that I am becoming elderly. I've never heard that song without the vocals, but I can hear the parallels in style for sure. I like the crazy sample chopping in this. Not what I expect when clicking on a hip hop track, but it's a pleasant surprise. Had fun listening throughout!

Modnex replied 12th Mar 2016 - 9 years ago
Thanks Pat! I know what you mean on that note, I feel that way too sometimes. Hip hop usually doesn't have as much chopped vocals as this song does, but I like to keep things original so I'm grateful for that ! Thanks for always stopping, always appreciated.

Have a wonderful day!

Hey, I've got to be honest, if this was the way most pop-country sounded then I would be far more likely to listen in... this is nice and relaxing! All instruments sound nice, and the vocals are clear and well performed. I'm not listening on surround equipment (stereo w/ sub), but the stereo field still sound really good. Bravo for translating that to mp3 so well! Very enjoyable piece from you and the vocalist!

Sorry for not replying sooner.

Many thanks for your kind words. Glad it's coming through on your system ok. I actually mix my tracks on a stereo set up, so I know it will be fine for all listeners. When I'm 95% finished, I'll check it on my SS system.

Cheers,

The intro sounds very much like something from a film or video game, and then the electro gets rockin and everything changes. I like the minimalistic depth in this one! Some crazy atmospheres around 2:15... trippy. A lot of this reminds me of some reaktor instruments that I'm just experimenting with lately. Did you play this on an actual guitar, and if so, what kind? Fun to hear! Keep at it!

on Another Day With You x The Days With You EP by bitronix
Very pleasing and uplifting piece here! Has a kind of modern pop vibe, which I wouldn't normally listen to - but it also reminds me of popular music from other eras enough to get me into it. I was reading the comments regarding sidechaining... since you use FL, you are in luck! I find that sidechain sort of work is one of FL's strengths in recent versions. If you haven't worked with Peak Controller, then I suggest you start experimenting with it. Compared to gross beat, there are almost endless things which can be done with it, since you can control almost any parameter with the peak/envelope of any sound in the mixer... plus it includes a nice LFO. One of my favorite ways to sidechain with more subtlety is to place a peak controller on one mixer track (such as a kick drum), and make sure to turn of the "mute" so you can still hear the track... Then I'll place an EQ (like fruity PEQ2) on another track (such as bass or synth pads)... if you set up a low cut or low shelf on the EQ, and then link the gain of that band to the "peak" output of the peak controller (using "inverted" for the formula in the link to controller dialog), you can sidechain just that EQ band instead of an all encompassing gain like in gross beat. Just tune the proper frequency on the EQ band, and tune the settings of the peak controller to taste... keep in mind that with the inverted formula, you will need to adjust the "base" setting in peak controller to a more centered setting, or else the gain on the EQ band will peak REALLY HIGH. This is nice for leaving mid and high frequencies alone while providing space in the low frequencies for the kick drum and similar situations. Sorry to ramble about that, it's just a technique that I love to use. Either way, I like the composition of this track, and it was fun to hear. Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for the feedback! I'll try my best to understand what you've just said (because I'm not familiar with most of the functions you have said, but I've already seen them.)
I'll try that technique if I've experimented on such.
By the way, thanks for the compliment, and cheers!

on GryllaQ - The Greatest Feeling by GryllaQ
Pretty cool stuff! Been listening to an old Paula Abdul cassette lately, and if the modern synthesis were left out, then this would remind me of it a bit. Of course that was more centered around verses as well, but I realize that people don't have the attention span now. Enjoying the feel of the mix very much... minimal and a little bit deep. Fun to hear!

Thanks for the reply! I have avoided getting any of the volca stuff, especially since I have a bunch of other korg stuff. Sounds good though! I recently picked up bare PCB's for the xox-heart and xox-heart pacemaker projects. Once I get me new lab completed I will be building things again, and it will be on the list. It's pretty much like an analog and digitally controlled 303 voice... so it fits in a modular environment well. Looking forward to playing with that one. Enjoyed listening and reading your reply!

RogueAi replied 26th Feb 2016 - 9 years ago
It's the stutter knobs that give that delay sound. It's sounds interesting because the way I used it here it sounds like I'm slowing the tempo but I'm not.

That xox-heart thing sounds interesting but I need the sequencer as that is a very huge part of that sound. I'm currently using my MMT-8 to sequence the acid but it can't do polyrhythms (step length) like the 303 can. Well it can have odd time signatures but then everything is.

Well, I decided to listen to one of your other ones with my green smoke instead. While I do like this style, it's not quite as chill as the last one I heard from you. Good message to it as far as I can tell though, and that's important. Assuming that the new instruments you were trying are virtual, but if I'm wrong I'd love to hear what you are using. My assumption is because the music sounds very modern. I'm glad you're sharing the reggae vibe around looperman, it's a good thing!

Indeed, the new instruments are virtual but are samples of real instruments. For me it's always a pleasure to produce some Reggae, Ragga music.

Very interesting vibe here! You don't hear much modern reggae really, so it's refreshing. Makes me wish I had lit a joint instead of this cigarette... oh well, maybe I'll come back for another listen in a few minutes... ;) I'd like to hear it with proper verses, but I don't think I'm qualified. This definitely sounds as if it were of a different time, and I can fully appreciate that! Reminds me of some of the records I've got which have been around long enough to discolor from ecstacy laced clove cigarette and virola smoke. I'm sure it would sound far better on vinyl, or at least in uncompressed form (because of the length and size limits here). Impressive way to handle the ending, with the glitching delay stuff! The biofeld sound cool with this acid use as well. I would say that you are definitely getting good at the strict hardware live stuff! Had fun listening! Fave!

Yeah I'm mostly inspired from 80s and 90s techno futurism (what would be considered retro-futurism these days)Or in others words, wanting the world to have a brighter future. A lot of techno these days seems to be dystopian except for some of the founders of techno still have the positive sound: Juan Atkins (Model 500) to name one.

Yeah it would sound better and vinyl for sure, but I don't have the budget for that. Working on a new album though which I will sell on bandcamp.

They delay at the end isn't actually a delay (just sounds like it) it's from the Korg Volca Beats which I use a s supplementary rhythm rather than as normal drums.

Also, I plan on getting a TT-303 or x0xb0x 303 clone soon so I can get a more authentic 303 sound.

Hey dude, sorry about my comment. I think you caught me on a bad (good) day when I heard this. My track comments were colored by other writing I was doing, and my thoughts about the difference between "acceptance" and "approval." Taking things to heart and memory and moving on now. As such, I can appreciate the song for what it is more today. I'm happy that you are still making music and noticing a good amount of success and respect out of it! Oh yeah, just remembered... Visited a thrift shop last week, and I always look through the cassette tapes there. Discovered the Miami Vice soundtrack tape, and bought if for 25 cents. Listening to it made me think of you. Some really out there tracks on that tape which I didn't expect! Hoping all is well for you!

on Someone is inside my head by Rhodesy
This is an interesting style of track! Gives me some reminiscent feelings from the eighties in a way. The guitar seems similar to something Jan Hammer might have composed if he actually picked up a real guitar, rather than playing a keyboard to sound like a guitar. Some cool sparkling harmonic content in parts which is pleasing to the ear. This also has some nineties rock vibes to it, you know when psychedelia had it's real moment in the sun. Very enjoyable piece throughout! You really jam and groove on that guitar. Dig it!

on Catatonia by crucethus
I found this track to leave me without words a bit, which is a pretty uncommon way to feel in recent times for me. I can't complain about the feeling at all. This is one of those songs which encouraged me to wait until it was finished to react, and I take that as a good sign. I saw that Alex mentioned "Nerve Net" as a reference, which I understand, though to me, most of the sections here bring back flashbacks of "Selected Ambient Works..." from Aphex Twin. I found the first half of the song was speaking to me far more than the second, which may be intentional feeling of catatonic state. (?) I enjoyed much of the instrumentation throughout. I did find some of the drum loops to be a bit disjointed for my tastes, but from reading your responses, it does seem like it was intentional. I can't judge some ones intentions in art! All in all, a very interesting musical journey. I'm thinking on faving and downloading this one. Thank you for sharing!

Hey Sorry for the late reply.
Yes this one is a very personal and cathartic song that I made. The structure of What I wanted to do was in my head way before I even started to produce it. Mental illness is a serious, strange reality for so many people in this world. I wanted to express how the different states affect the people who love and care for people with brain injuries and issues. I want to spread awareness that mental illness is an illness of an organ called the brain, no different that someone having a lung issue (asthma) or Kidney (dialysis). The only difference is that the normal cognitive experience will change for a bit and that person needs your love, support, guidance, strength, trust, whilst the storm rages in there mind, and to know there is hope and help as the brain heals after these episodes. I saw a dear loved one deteriorate before my eyes. Luckily I had educated myself on the warning signs and was able to convince this person to get help voluntarily before it would become messy and difficult. During that first week this person experienced Catatonia for a few days and massive memory loss of that week. It was a combination of the Bi-Polar episode and the massive drugs that were given. For me my relief of stress and worry is in writing music. So you see that I have produced a lot of tracks very quickly just indicates I am reliving the stress of the situation. I am lucky that I have a great support team behind me and I reached out for professional advice early on and it has helped beyond belief. Also I am Highly educated on what can and will happen so we can survive this storm together, and I am happy to say patient is recovering very well now. I am aware many people here suffer from various mental illness and from time to time may or may not be in the most lucid state, but I just wanted to reach out part selfish cathartic release, but also part "you're all not alone" and there are some of us who understand what you are going through even if we don't feel the pain, or euphoria, or the depression, or the voices, we see the fallout. And people like myself are the safety net so someone doesn't cause too much damage to themselves and can get rest and help to allow the stormed brain to re-load. So musically this song has a shit-load of emotional baggage and yet an almost wondrous approach to what the subject might be experiencing. I thank you for listening and fav and downloading this was a very personal song for me.

on I Wish - ft The Entranced by MegaTone
Interesting style of dubstep in this track! I've been mostly avoiding dubstep lately, but it seems that some people are innovating a bit finally, such as yourself. Really, if it weren't for the half time beats, and the wobbles, I wouldn't have called it dubstep at all without your direction. It's a cool dance track to my ears, with some cool synth work. I wish it were more dynamic (less compression/gain), but I can appreciate the work that went into it as it stands. Pretty cool, and appropriate vocals which you found as well. Enjoyed listening!

MegaTone replied 21st Feb 2016 - 9 years ago
Thanks very much for the review!

Yeah, dynamics and over-compression are some things I have issues with, and retrospectively I can think of about ten different tweaks I would've done regarding the 'master' compressor and the gain, not to mention the EQ.

Regarding the style, its more or less my interpretation of the 'Dubstep' I grew up to (despite "growing up" being only four or five years back). I enjoyed some of the screechy-growly stuff that people put out, but I was always really impressed with the more 'melodic' side of dubstep. If you're interested, the track "Blue" by Gemini is one of the key tracks I keep in mind; the side-chained pads on the beat, a great chord progression and just a little of that gritty bass to keep it dubstep.

Whew, ramble over. And once again, thanks for the review!

Very intersting stuff here, and not what I expected to hear at all! For rap, it is super cool and true in it's realism. Has the roots of hip hop well represented, and is modern in all of the best ways. Some of the recent albums I've purchased are rap, and this would give them a run for their money. I'm assuming you rocked the bass here, because it sound freekin wicked! Inspiration flows from this, and the cannot be bad! Deep, deep, and heavy. Love it! Fave!

Hey Pat...thanks man!..yeah I played all the instruments on this one (minus the drums obviously)...Wordybum/Michael goes full on, pretty awesome vocalist if you ask me, I don't know how they do it and breathe at the same time!...I've always liked spoken word and HipHop/Rap as long as it isn't that misogamist gangsta crap or thug life self centred consumerism, I liked it best when it was more politically/socio economically orientated, there's such a stigma associated with how it sounds and who actually produces it these days..I think HipHop's barely scratched the surface of where it could go...but try telling that to the kids of today....cheers mate thanks again for the listen, glad you liked it! I was pretty hooked in from the first moment of barely audible sub bass, and it just got more interesting after that! Very groovy instrumentation, and the vocals fit great! I find the mix to be very enjoyable to hear, and a far cry from much of the overamped, clipped junk that shows up every day. You made me turn it up, and that is one of my favorite characteristics in any song! I guess that the only suggestion I can think of is based on the waveform image. It looks like you have some dB of headroom available in this audio. If you chose to use this headroom, you could go one of two ways - You could keep the master as is, but it would be louder without any added problems or artifacts... or you could adjust the mastering to allow for more dynamic range. Either one would probably sound really good... but with that said, this sounds excellent in it's current state! I'm happy to meet another trip hop fan here on the loop. Thank you for sharing! Fave and DL!

Regarding your question about length of track and quality... I was only speaking in relation to the 10 MB limit to the track uploads here on looperman. I'm not sure what mp3 quality (kbps) this was exported at or if it got near the file size limit. If you exported at less than 320 to get under the limit, then cutting the silence at the end before making the mp3 would make the file size smaller, and possibly allow you to increase the encoding rate. It wasn't a big deal at all, I just know that the file size limit can get in the way at times. Thanks for your reply!

Hey there, welcome to the site! While this is not my favorite type of trance, I do enjoy some qualities of the song. I guess I say "not my favorite" mostly due to the high gain, clubby sort of feel to the mix and master. I do really enjoy some of the synth arpeggiations. I think I would like it far more if the drums and bass were more prominent. The vocals are a good match for the composition though, and fits the style well. Seems like you have about 20 seconds of silence at the end of this mp3 as well, so maybe removing that would allow for a higher quality mp3. Keep doing what you're doing!
