Hey thanks man i appreciate the conment....umm sorry about the speakers, the next tracks coming are gonna be just as rough on the system...hope you got some good ones..lol
This is a trip from start to finish Sheen.Lots of great ideas and big compressed sounds, dirty, almost nasty! but it draws the listener in.Great job dude.
Yo Brado, this is as a wonderous backing track with a gorgeous chord movement, highly commercial, reminds me of something coldplay might develop.Great mix and playing, snare is solid.Pro-tools doing a great job-is there a pre-pro tools track on here i can listen to,just to compare the quality?Keep up the work but go easy on the cheese - bad for cholesterol you know :) Rhodsey
Wonderful energy on this demo Amaranthion!House is not my genre when it comes to music making but i love a good four to the flour banger, and this delivers. The rhythm's used are tried and tested but your choice of sounds drives the track forwards. Nice work.
You little legend! I can see you ruling the pop world on a yacht touring the Mediterranean in the near future whilst I struggle with the 9 to 5 day job. :)
Hey Brado, sorry for the strong worded review but it just sounds like a complete cheesy sellout to me which I presume is exactly what you are trying to achieve. The performance is spot on its just the genre.Good luck.I am glad I didn't offend and I shall keep these type of comments to myself in the future as its not the way this site needs to go.
Perfect! Thanks for explaining yourself :) I don't mind a strong-worded review as long as there is elaboration - we are all entitled to our own opinions! It is definitely cheesy and sellout, but I assume that is what most kids (the target audience for this contest is teenage/young drivers) listen to today - so why not meet them where they're at? :P Plus, I'll do it if it gives me a shot for $1500 :) Too many sad, after-the-accident-happened type song winners. Just wanted to change it up, ya know? Something more cheery, before-the-accident-happens type song and with a bit o' cheese :P
I think my view on this song is summed up perfectly in my reply to StaticNomad's comment: " I need the money for college or I wouldn't be wasting my time haha."
Thank you for the overwhelming comment. I had quite an emotional and spiritual journey while working on this track, so this means a lot. Now, I'll go dig for my Farfisa keyboard and see if it still works :-)
Hey Static.Great listening to your bowed experiments on this deep vibed cool statement. The scratch adds an edge and I particularly enjoy the Rhodes piano chords.Great work dude!
What's the scratch? Do you mean the very first note of the piece (and some others after it)? That's spiccato bowing on one of the higher strings. Basically, you don't rest the bow on the string and draw it across it, as with regular bowing. Instead, you give it a sharp sort of glancing blow, essentially bouncing the bow off the string. You can get flute and shakuhachi sounds using that technique.
Of course Rhodesy enjoyed the Rhodes piano chords! They're pretty simple and repetitive but work fairly well.
Hi there Static,i was wondering where you had gone,by the sounds of this gem not far from that cello :)
I must say that your latest cluster of cool chilled vibes have really made me appreciate your talents my friend.I personally see you as the most distinctive original artiste on this site. You have your own voice that is instantly recognised amongst the diverse talent on here.
Cool Cminor triad riff intro with a blues feel on the flattened third sliding onto the subdominant and dominant giving added tension.Nice riff that doesnt get monotonous.(sorry i had a bit of a muso moment!it had to happen sooner or later)
Drums are on the money as always with some atmospheric synths floating about the picture and some percussive or string sounds outlining the minor7 chord(0:48 onwards)your mix is always smooth its hard for these ears to pickout exact tones sometimes so excuse me.
Some nice bowing effects and layers at 1:21 with the clap or fingers on the beat although they sound like a pop at 1:26? i can imagine you sitting there playing the beast at the early hours to capture some of this stuff In the DAW!I wish it was tape on a reel!
Some grooves can just repeat all day and this is one of them as you experiment with that new bride of yours.
3:37 I like the introduction of the rasping synth fluttering about the stereo image.
4:09 nice bow/string moment
The last section is very euphoric with some very cool echo effects and trancey synth as the bow gets a hammering at 9:03!!
The end is excellent.Whats the low buzz sound i thought my phone was about to kick off lol (9:12)
Great job on this one Static.
I've not been using the site much and have been ill but still managed to complete this unusual piece.
"your latest cluster of cool chilled vibes"
All three tracks are from the same project so either you're really into my 80 BPM vibes or perhaps that tempo really inspires me to do good stuff.
"You have your own voice that is instantly recognised"
Cool. That's exactly what I aim for as I try to make music no one has made or heard before.
"Cool Cminor triad riff intro"
I don't know what triad/dominant/subdominant mean, in musical terms, but I'm sure you're right. That intro is based around cello harmonics and I love it.
"Nice riff that doesnt get monotonous."
I agree so much that I felt it needed to play a lot in the track, sitting underneath other layers.
After a break , from itwith cello and bass g doing other stuff, you can hear a nice return to that riff on 3:12.
"some percussive or string sounds outlining the minor7 chord(0:48 onwards)"
0:48 a trancey synth arp arrives panned left as well as a chimey lead VST guitar panned to the right.
"its hard for these ears to pickout exact tones"
I agree and I'm good at merging multiple sounds in such a way that it's hard to tell what's what.
"although they sound like a pop at 1:26?"
I did have some big problems in this track with pops but at 1:26 it's just a hip hop percussive hit. I don't hear a pop there.
"Some grooves can just repeat all day and this is one of them"
Yes - it was a fun to keep listening back on a hypnotic loop though, as always, I felt I had to take the track on an exciting journey and stop it from feeling too loopy.
"3:37 I like the introduction of the rasping synth"
Yes - I'm trying to make things start to go a bit "trance euphoric".
"The last section is very euphoric"
Yes - I wanted it to be uptempo and exciting but not too heavy.
"Whats the low buzz sound i thought my phone was about to kick off"
Just cello. At 9:12 the cello note is ending but very low in the mix under that chimey guitar.
Great to hear you enjoyed this. I enjoyed making it though I did get a bit bored with it in the end as I think I perhaps spent too long on it. But I was trying to complete it when ill, which is not easy.
Really feelin' this one.Has a lot of depth and the sound choice is superb.
1:15 - great sound!and then it goes nice and dark,a kind of half time feel.
You have experimented a lot on here and it has an industrial vibe towards the end.Bowie in berlin springs to mind :)
Another 'ocean of emotion' my disciple of the keys.
Some very soul searching minimal piano which sounds great on here with the superb production and the drums, are they Eds?
The acoustic guitar is so delightful and colours the journey, and its one of my favourite of your journeys.
There is a little drum offbeat at 4:18 which threw me a little but apart from that congrats on another masterclass.
Some very generous words here....thank you so much !:)
Yup, you got it right , Ed is the drummer since the drums for Orlando are like garlic for vampires..:)
Really glad you liked the piano and production cause I'm responsible for both and ofcourse it's more than obvious
who is the master on the exquisite guitar...:)
Oh, yeah...that slight offbeat....Ed was taking another beer...haha...
Really enjoyed these funky vintage sounds.Very refreshing to hear all real instruments on here, almost sounds like vinyl. The groove at the end is very surprising and could be a great main riff for another tune.
Looking at the waveform the output level is fine M.H
I enjoyed the track, has some good sections and put together very well.I believe it is lacking a little with dynamics in places but that is part of the mix and easily rectified.Sounds a lot cleaner than previous tracks.Take care.
Thank you vbery much for your view on my track. I think you are right with the dynamics on teh track. Still learning how to make the track sound more vivid. But one step at the time :p
Hi there Spivkurl, you really have developed an original out there compositional voice with your musical journey,i could tell it was you straight away with my eyes shut-this is not easy to achieve in todays climate.I admire your vision.Great track sir.
You are too kind with your words! To be myself, if anything, is definitely paramount in almost everything that I do - so it means a lot to me. At this point, I feel that I have more tools at my disposal than I will ever be able to fully immerse myself in, and it is somehow comforting. It's somehow like a dream of youth in the studio, which is comforting in, as you put it, "todays climate." It's interesting that you mention "eyes shut," as that is definitely meant to be a large part of enjoying my music. Audio can be sensed very deeply when other senses are deprived. One thing lacking about youtube, I suppose. Thank you very much for the pleasing comment!
Sounds lush to me Brado.Oviously the vocal melody is the make or break at this level of creativity.Yes as said before maybe a harder snare to open up the chorus and I do feel a picked bass guitar with a more melodic movement through the chord changes could add to an already top backing track.Good luck,
Always a great raw/real experience upon a visit to your place Joe!
I wish i was sitting in an old bar in Berlin watching you guys play this all night.Beer mugs raised to you!Cheers.
That would be cool if Burt get some time and we both could do a/some gig's in an old bar in Berlin. The last stuff we both made would be great to played there.
If we ever do that i would enjoy for sure drinking a or a few beer with you there.
