Production pointers are just here and there...
But DAMN man.

I do not mean your EQ. But how you mix... It's NOT BAD

Thank you, thank you man.You are the first who tell me some real advice.I`m new in making music although i play guitar from the early childhood. It`s so,so much to learn in music. As I go deeper I see how much I don`t know. It`s very much hard to make it all alone.Write the lyrics, than record all,and than production...
Enyway,I have some cheap microphone for karaoke, and even if I scream it`s not as loud as i think it should be.Do you think that some better microphone will do better job...From what I read from youf profile I see you have good knowledge about mixing and production..and

I miss smoking weed.. sigh..

Anyhow.. Umnn I am listening on some hella expensive headphones.. And I am already really lovin' them drumy bitrate drop.

AHHH... awesome drums.

Bass is that wobbly soundeffect thingy?
Yeah.. A bass would be cool.. I would maybe only focus it on like the chorus or something after the vox. ...
Amazing work on the glitch work.
Damn near IDM.
Yeah... Where's the bass?
The "whaaaaaaaaaaaoooo" is awesome, but it doesn't round out the bottom enough for me personally...
Another thought, and this is TOTALLY just my opinion, I actually like to hear stuff "messing up".. Like fingers rubbing across the strings... stuff being almost "not perfect"...
It makes things more human.

Your mix is really good.
Soo them 40 dollar headphones ain't bad.. or the thing inbetween 'em.

Umn... Good headphones and monitors are really necessary..
But I don't even have monitors at the moment XD

Longer and a bassline.

Love the glitchery and drums. Almost "amen" drum and bass style. Love that sh8t.. I eat it for breakfest lunch and dinner with sides of death metal.

on Introducing Me by KapKurt
Wow!

I really like it! Kinda happy-industrial!?

Dang dude, You could probably take some of them takes and layer up?
That gets a really professional result in my experience.. especially with hip-hop.
It takes fer freaking ever, but you layer one up on the left and then one on the right, and keep the main take center and strong.

Then it's just a lot of cut and past to fix everything and you get this really huge sparkly vocal production.

I heard a few overdubs here and there, but I just "felt" like it would be a good move with his vox.

Awesome stuff man!

You guitar?
Nice!

I love your chill compensation sampling shidangle.

I was a little "ehh?" on the compression?... I mean... it's not a criticism man, I am just one of the kinda dudes that like to use EQ and Compression only to the point of "I can hear it" and then I roll it back a few notches so it's almost peripheral.

But I mean.. You got this analog vinyl action... very warm.

As far as the groove you nailed it.
I love it.
My only ehh is the compression? I like more dynamics......
But meh
You are underground for some ungodly reason man... I don't get it lol.

I really enjoyed it man. Love your style with percussion... You musta been a drummer in a previous life.. Me and yeshintea where talking about how you had such an impeccable way with syncopation.
Dopeness.
Me no drinky but me thinky.
CONEYISLANDRECORDS
CONEYISLANDRECORDS replied Unknown
No live guitar. Used Absynth and Albino 3 for all the sounds except the drums.

I didnt compress the track at all. I only added a limiter and 7 band eq to the main track. I do enjoy that warm sound though. Didnt get too much into the mix because I was drinking. Can always go back to it later though.

"You are underground for some ungodly reason man... I don't get it lol."

LOl,...gotta start somewhere I guess.
Who knows mabey I will be the first Hip Hop based producer to get the Artist Spotlight thing.

I do enjoy playing drums live. I rarely get to anymore but its always fun to wear myself out on a set for a little while. Alot of my drum influences are rock rooted. Danny Carey for instance. One of my all time fav drummers.. Love the drummer from Saosin as well.
Glad you enjoyed it man! Thanks for listening!!!

on Salvation by Tiltedbeats
:)
My favorite part was when it was "spakow".

You know.. the depth and whatnot... Dynamics.
Live. Good vibes.

Yeah... I love how it verges on synthesized and also just this live groove.
Attention to bass was MUCH appreciated, and I have been giving a lot of thought to the user create part of the production side, and then the listener side.
Personally I will say that I wanted more bass... MORE lol... that's just the west coast US talkin'...

But I ain't complaining.

The melodic elements, everything.
Professional level man.
Jussss need some vox!
But hell man, this doesn't really "need" it. But it would put it into that commercial territory.

Highly recommended listen, .... I wanna bump yer thread right now lol. I will later on tho.. People should hear this.

Ain't it crazy how much you grow exponentially just hanging around looperman?
Tiltedbeats
Tiltedbeats replied Unknown
hahah hey mate... MORE BASS xD well, i can definitely understand that west coast environment hahah... i could easily push the sub bass layering on this (jus for my west coast crew hahah)...

but really, thanks for the review...
im really hopeful here, pushing to get my mate to spit some lyrics on it.. i have also sent a copy to farisha.. she may come up with something... so it's looking up from here...

thanks in advance for the thread bump LOL.. and ur totally right, looperman has done WONDERS to my production potential.. and it's still improving... such a site... it's ironic you said that, bcz i love that pic in ur gallery of the frequencies to notes correlation... i use it quite often... so thanks heaps... the loop is such and awesome place.

I can do the beat if you want?

Doesn't sound too daunting, if just not sound designing it to be just like the original?

It's very cool man.
I love the style.. southern drawl... Kinda G Love.... Funk yes my man.
Awesome.
I saw them cats at a festival one time, and he was just chillin on a lawn chair on a stage drinking caronas lol... it was awesome, Cold Beverages.

Hell yea! I'm not gonna lie, I totally gave up on someone redoing this, but I guess it was just waiting for someone worthy of the task. I would be honored to have you redo it. No need for it to sound like the original... Maybe a close BPM would be nice, Other than that have at it! If you need it I'd be more than happy to lay down some harmonica on it (assuming it needs it) Hit me up when you got something going.

on Regrowth by BrokenScythe
I still can't believe you are doing this from your phone!!!
Gah
Like 20 years ago we were all huddled around huge quarter inch reel to reels!!!!!

Anyway
Throw some compression and sidechain a bass and you could fool me heheh.
Plus lest not forget the great 5th and 7th semitone drop which really grooves out the trance melody and bassline.
Needed a bass I think...
Yea...

Good stuff man.. You got a nice taste in the melody.

Drums would need some more layering I would think and "depth" thru 'verb and such....

But I ain't complaining or criticizing, only offering what I heard the birds chirping and relayed the message.

I am no "electronic" producer (at least I don't consider myself) soo these are just opinions as well.

BrokenScythe replied Unknown
Livid you always offer such great advice man, thankyou.
How would I approach the bass on this? Im so new to it lol.
5th n 7th semitone drop? Like a pitch wheel kind of drop?
I feel you on the drums, theyre simple indeed, need more depth.
Ill get on that Livid, thanks for the listen! perhaps you could check out a battle beat I made called Cherry blossom? Id appreciate you great constructive criticism on that one man.
Thanks again! Ill return the favor :)

jeez on bewl?

I don't think he listens to dubstep... But then again, I can hear that you are using samples, and usually it's better to create the wobbles using an LFO and whatnot.

I liked it man. I like hard shyte.

... Does need some love, but it isn't as bad as bewl makes it sound.

Candles burning... Paper with ink smeared on it.
Sounds soo deep.... Like humanity breaking it's heart... Stuck in a vice of eternity.
That should be the name of our collab. Stuck in a vice of eternity.

Amazing stuff man.
I am definitely a fan. Your avatars your songs,.. everything I have heard streamed over at mixposure, on looperman.
You have a powerful presence about your work.
Cybertooth
Cybertooth replied Unknown
if you cant put emotion into music, its kinda pointless to produce it. but yeah, if were doing a collab, thatll be our name..... its part of the reason i dont like pop, its not real emotions, its just false self importance and lust, hardly can put yourself into a song like that. no crap,or silliness, just pure music. but about something like love, which is practically impossible to accurately describe, music is a perfect way to convey stuff like that. and i think making electronic music just for the art of it has been an idea to largely ignored. if you got something you want to do, just pop me over an email

yep, the only drug im on when im making music is the song itself. i was actually really depressed when i made this, and the song brought me up with it. the "illegality" was actually a misunerstanding brought about Piano...er.. M2G. he was talking about how you couldnt use his loops in works sold without permission due to copyright, and in the following conversation it was highlighted that sites that sell loops dont require their permission as long as its royalty free (before i was like, okay, why would i want to buy it again?). but yeah, the loop is so messed up by me you probably cant even tell what origingally was anymore. but yeah, tahnks a bundle man (phew, im getting more in than i can give out with how much im working lately)

Or "Complex Pro"?

Thanks again for the review. This is the mastered version, you should hear the mix I made lol. This was a real big learning track. Saw first hand how to use Live much more efficiently and some tricks on how to mix. The description is missing the fact one guitar ran through a Reason 4 effect combinator. Also that Ozone 3, I think, was used aswell. Ozone also is just awesome. Funny thing is I started with the intention of making purely industrial metal or hybrid hip hop stuff. Somewhere I veered off. Not complaining though. Probably got lung cancer from standing at keyboards and controlers smokin a pack and hour lol. Cheers :D

on Downtime by MCHN
Downtime indeed!
I feel the same way about mine
"I don't feel its finished it's just one of those track that just kinda stays that way I guess."

I kinda look at everything I do as that building block, and I always learn something new every track. Keep pushing and shoveling it, until I get some gold you know?

Edits didn't sound to noticeable?.. You can alleviate any noticeable clicks or pops from edits by going really deep in Record and using a volume fade on them so the cuts on the waveform don't sound audible?

I really dig your style nonetheless... That's the most important thing. You have a feel to your work.
I find that more important than technicalities.
MCHN
MCHN replied Unknown
Thanks again for another review man. Yea there are some areas on the edits that have fade in set really short. Its mostly the guitar that, truth be told, was done in multiple pieces. Not really a soloist but I can jam a box(s) here and there. When that click starts counting down though my brain shuts back off. Wish I could say that was a one shot take even with some f'k ups in it. Yea tracks in my mind never are 100% finished. I just never wanna George Lucas them and take the vibe it had away. This will remain a WIP still. Cheers and thanks again man :D

on KORE - Ioka Flow by Ioka
I like your sense of ambience.
And also, your english is better than most Americans I know lol.

Yeah... I am siding with Clinthammer, and that gentleman is a monster producer, so any good compliment from him goes a long way!

I did ache for a massive wobble on the counts.. but I still think you hit some very good territory with this piece.
I like how you have such a "jungle" aesthetic about your recent work that I have heard!

But yeah... I don't nit-pick on the genre crap, but "technique" wise it needs a bassline.

But meh,
I loved it man.
You are good at greating atmospheres and that will take you a lot farther than any "technique"
:)

I really like your mixing!
Levels sound wonderful on my headphones. Altho duly noted with your talk with Numberjack... I did feel at times I wanted the drums to "punch" a little more?
Perhaps just a little more there?
I have been using the sidechain function in ableton and getting some good balance in freqs.. but I am that guy trying to mix metal and dnb lol
As far as the aesthetics and sounds.. You rule. I love the coldness and the jungle nod. The glitch synth solo... kinda "tranced" me out!!!
:)
I like your style man!
I am going to check out some more, I noticed you uploaded some more tracks.

on one more mojito by rei4real
Yeah.
The world needs more Rei in it.

It almost doesn't matter what you do, it always sounds sooo fresh and amazing.

Hah! I have these loops I think!
Groooooooovin'.

Really enjoyed the harmonics, such a great subtle thing that all guitarists need to remember! (stealing this for my dnb deathmetal madness lol)

I love how you harmonize with yourself. It's always this voice that doesn't get confused. I can think back on pretty much everything I have of yours on my HD/iPod, and every track is unmistakable and impeccable.

Sooooo awesome.
I won't be having a mojito but this track is just as sweet on my ears!

great that you used the word "subtle" ... I really focus on details, sometimes the two right tones together can do more for a song than complicated chords ... that's how I try to put together my guitar lines (and of course all the other instruments) ... lot of work, but it pays off ...
thx a lot for taking so much time Abe!!

Cool bossanova sample!
Ahh.. reminds me of the days geeking out to Amon Tobin.
Make sure not to forget the balance of the drums on this! Of course probably another personal preference but I "felt" the bass (awesome bass btw) but the drums didn't really touch my ears enough... More kick?

Was thinking about a pad? Something on the long bar to frame some of the musicality going on, and then perhaps segueing your two elements (the bossanova and the break).
EzIcarus
EzIcarus replied Unknown
Thank you alividlife, as always your advice is spot on. The drums are easily the most neglected part of this track, its because at the moment I'm working with a very talented drummer from Ireland to give my productions more energy and life and Im ashamed to say the drums on my recent uploads were no more than pace setting fillers, keep an ear out for the new version with live drum loops coming in the next few weeks. Would really like to hear your review of the updated tracks.

on Makes You Wonder DnB by EzIcarus
AWESOME
:)

I know to trust your opinion now!

Yea, I will just say as a producer to another producer, I feel that this is still in the skeleton stage... Yet you have a really strong and quirky/fun skeleton to build on!
I really enjoyed the sounds you chose and agree with all the other reviewers. Some thoughts that immediately popped in my head was most definitely the flute and then delay on that... I just love a wind instrument with delay on it. But that's a personal aesthetic.

Another thought on my mind, was perhaps moving some semitones around so you got more musical movement out of the piece?.. There's always those trusted 5ths and 7ths that work sooo well in electronic music.

I will definitely keep my eye out for this, and I am going to listen to some more of your work!

on Transit Pow Wow (feat n0mad23 and Avonaco) by Salook
hehe my twisted mind thinks juxtaposing cold digital elements alongside.

You are really great with vocal manipulations... I just love that man.

It's odd for me.. because as an individual... I feel the context of what you are giving here... There's this spirituality about it. And I hear a lot of the talk with dub and it's spiritual roots. I get that.. that trance thru the transients on the delays and 'verbs giving the sound the largeness.

I really really respect you dubheads.. But I think when it comes to a social order in myself, there's something that screams an internal dissent. I can't explain it.

It must be something about how this track particularly has this incredible way of subduing the listener, as it has with the past few tracks I have heard.... And coming from my background, I like to reach out and just SHAKE the listener.... I really like the idea of tapping into that "spirituality".. almost shamanistic pose in the crossleg... Incense burning.

As a listener ... I had a fantastic feeling of association and disassociation with the music, and my reality.
That kinda experience hearing a piece of music goes beyond a favorite and a thank you.
Awesome stuff man.
Sorry for ranting lol
Salook
Salook replied Unknown
It's great people are getting the spiritual feel of this piece, i think myself when you hear the original Avonaco chant, he really put his spirit into it...along with n0mads drums which carried some of that spiritual aura he has over his own music...really makes the track what it is...

i was just the medium between these two spirits lol

Really though, glad you got something from the track it was a pleasure to work on. cheers.

Hey who did what?
... I have a feeling you did the groundwork and bass and oasis rocked the synths?

I dunno what it is about that girl, but she fkn rocks with melodies. Brilliant stuff.
I am just gonaaaa put this out there, but ... I kinda thought it was a little too wide on the headphones. Reverb?... I think I would have preferred a little dryer/shorter tail.. but that's not a complaint or criticism. Just how I felt listening.

Amazing stuff.

hey there thanks for the fantastic review.. as to who did what.. we both had input on the arrangement, Oasis did the melodies of course lol.. and i did the synth work, drums and effects and what not. If You Blow Chunks and She Comes Back, She's Yours. If You Spew and She Bolts, Then It Was Never Meant to Be.

I thought the choice in notes was cool and very interesting. The stabs you quickly do with the organ before the pre-chorus/chorus "we are to be booooorn again" part
(haven't figured that out yet lol)
They sounded a little "forced" ... and I don't mean that in a bad way but it was noticeable enough to make me look at it while I was doing the electric shuffle.
