Don't mind MrBillionx, he's important to the site to just promote self-realization.
That being said, take it from a crazyimbecile lol

Definitely dug your choices in sounds.. I think that's the important thing to consider here, dynamically, I would maybe try and compress the vocal track with a gate... It's how I do vocals within ableton, like trying to keep that vocal presence? But not sound like "HIGH FREQS, and then off, and then HIGH FREQS" and then off?
You know what I mean?

I don't know what you use, but typically I like to run my vocals thru a compressor, and then a gate. That way I have a lot of room for volume.. Very specific. Breathes can actually be "pulled" out of the accapella this way.
You might know this stuff already and I do want to be a dick.
Music isn't a "challenge"
it's a form of therapy or healing.

So anyhow.
I like the idea of Dynamic Compression on the vocals, and then bumping the awesome guitar and drum work.
Why the drums soo quiet?
Bump them man.
BUMP them Hard.
Don't be afraid, just make sure they don't clip on your loudspeakers on the DAW mixer at -0 decibels, and they don't clip your speakers at -12 decibels live.
That's the way I look at it. But I am a whoretoheadphones.
Audiophile.

I am digging this.
Keep at it man.
You have the idea, just mess up some more.
:)

Thanks I appreciate it a lot. I'm definitely gonna try your suggestion on compressing the vocal with a gate. And also bumping up the drums lol. Very helpful comment thanks

This is soo powerful.

Love the stretching man... Gah lol

Hey, I wanted to ask you?
What version of Ableton are you rocking at the moment?
I updated to 8.2 and I wanted to just warn you, DON'T DO IT! lol
I can't really do anything lately because it just crashes with every other move.

Impeccable stuff tho bro.
Love this.
Haha I want to beg you to let me do a remix (and quite possibly ruin it lol)
but yea.
Thanks for sharing this!

Hey Buddy

I haven't yet jumped ship still rocking on Cubase, was going to try out Ableton till Cubase 5 came on the scene, its a good piece of software and i am just getting into rewiring Reason,

Iv'e got the protools Mbox sitting boxed, but i need to really get my hard drive and computer organised before i set it up, otherwise i will just kill my computer lol

Thanks again for the big digs man, feeling blessed that AJ would want to get on a track like this...she is awesome.

A remix? glitch this baby lol, i'll make contact with AJ and get her permission, the way she delivered on this track...man she owns it now lol

cheers.

on Vividly Living by Thethanx
Gonna dl, at work, will be back with a review lol... It's weird because I have to use the kiosk in the lunchroom to check the internet, and then I go back to my office and listen lol

Brb!

K, back

Yeah this is freaking nice. The work you did with Omar-s's drums are awesome.. I thought for a little bit that they were reason? But They maybe actual vinyl samples.. very nice full and warm.

I like how "TheThanx" comes right after Thelonious Monk :) on my itunes at work.

I thought to myself... As I am waaaay to hard on myself, but I should have uploaded some variations of that Rhodes. Some minor 7th lol... everything I do is in minor seventh... Hell maybe a major 4th... I felt that change btw.

I was thinking to myself.. Like When I come to those places in a mix where loops are changing?
I sometimes try a couple things, like extending the loop over just a bar or whatever and then do a volume fade in. Especially on the Koto? whatever that was, it would be kinda interesting, because then you get this feeling of "a live band" is playing, even tho it's loops.

Some other thoughts?
I like taking bits and pieces of mixes (loops combined) whatever, and then making very broad mixdowns of reverb heavy, or reversed, then SUPER heavy reverb, and then UNREVERSED, and put back into the mix?
So you get ... well basically Unlimited variations within what is capable of your iPhone (still FUKKING BLOWS MY MIND) and then re-interpret parts as so.

I want to thank you.
Because, really I have not been feeling music.... Only images, and ... like crippled melodies lol... that's what it feels like.
I totally love what you have done. You can totally "hear" that you know your way around your drumsets.

BUT, I would also like to see some focus put into your segues. From part to part. Just get a little smoother there.
You do better than most people I know, and you do it from a 200 dollar utility of communication. High Five!!!!!

Mastering sounds great, because after your track, I have some hella old school three six mafia, an yer track has a better quality on it then theirs!
:)

Still I don't have a spectral analysis or anything to reference these claims from... I would probably remaster 3 six before this lol

FAVED.
I am going to continue making these loops just to hear stuff like this.
Thethanx
Thethanx replied Unknown
Yo thanks for the listen and the extensive review.

I gotta rework the mix, dung mentioned it's pushing the red the whole track. I also wanna give it some more space because the bassline is getting a little drown out.

On my segues...

I totally agree that they could be smoother, but one of my BIGGEST gripes about Beatmaker is that if I play a sample, I have to trigger THE WHOLE THING.
I would LOVE to be able to take your advice and make them smoother by having more fading, or starting the loop a midway point so that I could get smoother transitions, but until I get a better DAW (eventually I'll be switching to ableton I think) that's one thing that will just be haunting my productions.

Also if you want that kit I stole from Omar (it's just a kick, snare and HH, but they're sooo dirty) let me know and i can send you the samples I extracted.

Epic.

Wow.
I would buy this.
These are those tracks, that you will look back on for the rest of your life, and then say to yourself
I MADE THIS!

Totally boring nit-picking thoughts...
Some pads lol... I hear it in the middle.
But then again. Space.
Dynamics.
This is Epic.

Salook replied Unknown
Cheers alividlife...I was hoping you would catch this one....as you know I am trying to master my mastering lol...big words from you make me feel good.. honestly man.

Yeah that middle break down, stressed myself over that part, it felt empty, even though it was for just a short spell, felt something could be added there.....tried a few things and opted for a single sound effect just to break the routine, anything to forward wanted to stay throughout the rest of the track and I didn't want to take attention away from AJ's vibe.....and you are right man, so proud of this...gotta make sure I don't lose it....one to look back on. cheers bro.

on Never-ending Track by KillaKeishh
You rock at drums.. I have a couple of your loops and they are soo freaking awesome.. I almost feel bad using them lolz

It's ... very happy, which is different for me as my personal taste goes.
I have absolutely no idea why, but I really saw this working well with Japanese Anime and/or video game.

Logic! I hear good things.... I am toying with the idea of moving to a mac platform.
You sound like you know what your doing.
Good stuff!
:)

PS, on a complete non-sequentier I was thinking of "Lamb-Chops" This is the song that never ends, it goes on and on my friends... etc.etc
KillaKeishh
KillaKeishh replied Unknown
glad you could use my loops it's fine lol

Logic is more complex but I'm just going to have to get used to it and I can' take credit for these drums they were actually logic loops because making drum patterns is a lot harder for me in that program but hopefully I can upload my own loops soon

lol at the lamb-chops but thanks for checking out !

on Reversing round a corner by bobbybooth
Yup. That's it.

Fantastic work.

hah.. Please DO not take this into serious consideration, but something I would do with them drums is take 'em, and then maybe dupe that intro left channel.. It works on speakers, but thru headphones, I would have liked the "clicky reverbs" slowly panning in, till it got to that break...

AND HOLY CRAP IS the bass cool on this.

You have an exceptional balance here, and that bass is awesome, but drums are really important to me as a listener.
I wanted perhaps .. not compression (that's easy) but to keep the drums in the mix, notice how at 2:30ish they get louder for a moment..
Still
Please please please don't think badly... This is AWESOME!!

YES.
I really really liked the bridge?... Awesome.

I liked the pairing of the sitar and the guitar... but I also felt with the context it felt jarring and kinda .... like one of those crazy anime cartoons. lol...

The fear of being alone?
I have given it a lot of thought... Like personally I got issues with people (like anyone), But I particularly like to be alone.

I think it's a good place to be as well. But furthermore, the concept of ones reality can either be judged from a half-empty, or half-full perspective.

Dope track. Piano was pretty.
I think... I dunno.. would it be possible to hear this as a rhodes?
I am suchawhore for rhodes pianos.

Beautiful!
I am faving this and downloading.
It's strange, I have been particularly liking extremes in my musical taste lately.. it's either insane death metal or drum and bass, OR, beautiful acoustic ambient pieces.

I loved the off note you threw in there, and the harmonics were beautiful
well done!

Thanks aqgain for yet another review. More often than not, my "off" notes are unintentional bujt I leave them in there. A bit like the imperfection bit thrown into chinese art, but I like what Cyrus said once about one of my off notes, she siad its a "blues" note so I'm sticking with that...Thanks again.

Stereo imaging feels a little weird?

I think it could be a little more interesting with the keys being a bit more wide in the stereo spectrum, and maybe thinking of doing something where .. oh there you did it lol.. but giving some dynamic space...

Hahah I was reading thru yer tracks, and I noticed you saying "If I could put a chime in every track I would". I think that's all good and such, but less is more perhaps.

on Form Of Art Prod By MplustT by Luckyfeatherstudios
Nice.

I likey!!!!

Can I be brutally honest?
Wanna point to two things.. and I do not want you to think "I suck"
because it's quite the opposite.

Compressor on yer vox, or .. well notice how like when you are given full attention at the mid section? And how your voice get's obviously louder?
But if you look at your DAW, what do you use btw?, but how no volume changes are going up or down?

The bass in the initial track is really really prominent, as it should be in hip-hop, but that "sucks" the mids and highs slightly.. .. just ranting for a moment, I kinda trip why it doesn't work conversly.. It's kinda counter-intuitive in a way. Bass will suck mids, but treble won't. Anyway.. humn.. you got me thinking ...

I am a nerd lol..

But ok, on your vox, if you throw a compressor on there, you will be given a balanced line of volume within that take. So everytime you say somethin' and it doesn't sound as loud as the last syllable -- it will sound just as loud. Which is great. I think almost every pro track vocal needs good compression, with very few exceptions. (It would get compressed in mastering anyway)

Oops, forgot, IF YOU can, I would sidechain the mix to your vocal take. Sidechain is... it sounds complicated, but it is like someone is riding the fader for you and pulling down the mix ever soo slightly soo you sound out over the mix.
If I had your take of vocals, and I had the awesome mix from MplusT, I would sidechain, with a narrow bandwidth focused on the frequency range of your voice. I would probably put a really easy knee on that compressor and make it very subtle, but with the compressor on your voice, and the sidechain to the mix (NOT FROM-- very important) you would sound better I would think.... Dunno for sure lol...

But yeah..
Now I want to say something, and this is coming from an artist to an artist. So do not think I am talking trash.
Practice your lines sooo much, that you don't have to think. That it becomes like... this statement you would tell anyone. You could look someone in the eyes, and just spit it.
Because It "felt" a little like you were reading it.

There's almost a comparison to acting in a way. You gotta kinda put yourself in a mental state where nothing matters. NOTHING. Not even the beat lol. Seriously, I have seen rappers Become almost someone else in the studio I haunt when they really get down to the emotional level. All the little things of their reality are stripped away man. All they have is this ONE moment to prove they are worth a damn.

....

Little did they know they could go buy a good software and do the whole thing for free lol

You got something man, just keep at it.
Do not get discouraged.

Yeah Livid, thats actually a GOOD idea. Capturing life in sound is amazing. To me, nature can include the habitat we have created, society.

Lol you Id really dig collabing on this! Im unsure how we'd pull it off though? I used a program called NanoStudio on my iTouch to create it...I could export the melody loops I made as wavs and send them to you, with an arrangement chart? Yo thanks for the review and the loop! I think with all my songs my plan is to eventually get them on a comp with a real DAW and a graphic EQ and remaster everything I've done...

The drum hit being on the "and" of 4 is intentional, I guess as a drummer I get a little bored of just a standard 2 & 4 feel.

As always I appriciate the advice and take the constructive criticism as a sign of respect... I'm sure there's plenty of tracks that you don't even bother to say anything about so the fact you'd offer me any advice is a very good thing.

I think I'm gonna search the forums of resources on mastering advice. Thanks again!

Heheh.. You know that a dnb loop is basically a hip hop loop times 200 percent right?
lol

Awesome.

You sir are really cool.

I really like all the input you put on the forums and what not.
But I don't like to take it easy on cats (not a literal terminology or profiling to your avatar, but something I call all musicians- and yes loopers are musicians) I am a little concerned with the levels. Awesome work with kudlips I think?
Anyway.. Yer bass sounds like it's clipping, but there's a ton of headroom, which is totally cool, I know this isn't post production, but I think maybe sometime in your future it maybe something worthwhile looking into?
I typically render a track with nothing clipping, sometimes tracks that are really extreme like Death Metal Drum and Bass and ambient textures I render almost -20!
And then I bring them in again and focus on compression and/or imaging and whatnot.
It gets into craziness of mastering, but I am that dude that is always messing with the car stereo lolz

Hey, thanks for the review, and glad you like my input on the forums! I can get a little long winded, but only cuz I wanna make sure I'm being clear and not steppin on too many toes!
kudlips? You lost me there... What's kudlips?
No worries about being harsh! I asked for reviews on my mastering and you gave me exactly what I asked for! You're totally right, it is clipping (you mean the bass drum right? not the bassLINE?), and I need to go back and revamp the drums all together to eliminate some of that.
I think I've got the "headroom" because I added compression to the drums... but that doesn't fix my clipping problem. Still gotta figure out how to fix that. I'm really pumped to start working with a real DAW that will have a better visual EQ so I can really refine my mastering techniques. This really was a huge help though! I'll be updating a remastered version ASAP!

This is EPIC WIN.

Downloaded and Faved.

On a quick note about glitch... I think a lot about glitch... and how it's by far my favorite type of ... thing in music...

I remember being a kid and being excited when my CD's skipped.. or when processors where soo small that they would glitch on the bottlenecking...
Then Aphex Twin and Squarepusher blew up big... Totally dug that stuff...
Personal note, but I have been trying to think of ways to syncopate glitch rhythms slightly off the tempo... which is a real defining moment when I hear glitch... Kinda like how delay is pulled around ... or like .. .hmnnnn.. when you have a guitar pedal and twist up the knobs so the delay causes all these nifty glitches...
Kinda would like to experiment there.

Anyway... By far my favorite experience in these last two tracks has been your sense of rhythm... I really like your detail to the percussion elements. It's no-nonsense but very enjoyable.
