first thing that comes to mind: inter city travel at 11pm in a 89 lincoln continental. sounds like it belongs in a movie or tv show. its the kind of music that plays when the antagonists are going to do their bank robbery or to meet up with their out of state connections. im glad you decided to use all your guitar takes, if you didnt i dont think it would sound the same. so damn good. really pro composition and mixing. pure quality.

though it is pretty relaxed music it has some tension, so I can imagine it in a gangster movie too ...

If someone had said who's track is this, based on pure listen only, then to my ears it's Rei's for sure. This is you at your vintage best; none of the instruments stand alone in the mix as you have blended them all in an unimposing way (wish I could get band members like this !!) and once again your production follows the same principle as the playing. Bringing in progressive changes as the track moves on. Simply superb and straight to favorites.

Again, you prove that you're a master. It sounds like you had some fun recording and the groove addictive. I really like those harmonies towards the end. You have your own sound and frankly; you have your own leage too.

Your so talented in production, but the guitar is truly an extension of your body. A seamless fusion of arm, to hand, to fingers, to strings with both hands. A Zen or Tao kind of thing.

Jimi was like that. It's your "voice." I can understand what you're saying with the guitar, too. But it's with "words" that don't work with spoken language - they're emotional aggregates. Like complex symbols or metamorphic rock. Many things contained in a small space.

You amaze me with every song.

I've been thinking about Funk and the Blues a lot lately, and decided they are each one hand of the same body. Two sides of the same coin. With this one, I think it's more like one hand washing the other. Or a coin standing on edge, showing that there are really more than 2 sides. Blues expressions and statements blending with the unbridled happiness of Funk.

    Faved and downloaded. Thank you.

well, I see it pretty similar: good funk music should be based on the blues ... and both genres benefit if you transport elements from one into the other ...
concerning my guitar playing: it took me a lot of time to be able to play without thinking what to play ... hard work!! some really gifted players have enough talent to play that way, I had to work for it ... but in the end it doesn't matter ... lol
thx a lot for your review Shane ... I'm always honoured if you take the time to write one!!!

Well I came to listen to Rerum Natura again and found this one.
I should have expected it to be great and it is.
The guitar layers are nice and you have a good feel for delay use on them,Like RN it helps the song and your signature.
Very smooth funk and you gotta love the drums and bass.
Glad I came back over,I won't stay away so long!

    Yeah.
The world needs more Rei in it.

It almost doesn't matter what you do, it always sounds sooo fresh and amazing.

Hah! I have these loops I think!
    Groooooooovin'.

Really enjoyed the harmonics, such a great subtle thing that all guitarists need to remember! (stealing this for my dnb deathmetal madness lol)

I love how you harmonize with yourself. It's always this voice that doesn't get confused. I can think back on pretty much everything I have of yours on my HD/iPod, and every track is unmistakable and impeccable.

    Sooooo awesome.
I won't be having a mojito but this track is just as sweet on my ears!

    wow!!!
great that you used the word "subtle" ... I really focus on details, sometimes the two right tones together can do more for a song than complicated chords ... that's how I try to put together my guitar lines (and of course all the other instruments) ... lot of work, but it pays off ...
thx a lot for taking so much time Abe!!

I will always listen to this genre of music! lol..Hey buddy a funk track from the guitar wizard! cool...you even have a "rei" signature bass sound to complement your great six string work....This is very funky and leans heavily into fusion territory as well..super arrangement man!..one to get on the car stereo and pump it up..too long between rei track uploads is my only complaint..but when they come it's well worth the wait!..superb work as on all your creations..loved it!..cheers Dave :)

    hey Dave!!!
especially when it comes to funk music the focus is on the bassline and the bass sound, funk only works with a solid fundament ... but who do I tell that???
it's great that you notice it ... and I'm happy with this compliment!!
you're right ... I shouldn't wait that long to upload tracks ... but quality goes over quantity!
wish you a great day down under ...

Description : This track starts off with some Jazzy Neo-Soul then gets into some Funk with a Rock Space-Synth solo, then ends with some straight Neo-Soul.
So I won't offend anyone that's hardcore into Funk, I'd say this track is "Funkish"
