Sorry I took soo long to get back at you

WOW.. why are the Pixies and Nirvana coming to mind...

This is beautiful..
Man why do you leave soo much lol!
looperman is harmless.

That guitar is being stolen at the moment by me... Sonically.
With my ears.

This is a great fusion / cinematic piece man!

Awesome break.
Amazing progression.
Levels are low, but that's ok!
:)

Better low than loud I think...

on Whatever feat George Bush and TruSki by djquickrick
Let me tell you about a Black man.
This man is a socialist.
He runs the lives of HUNDREDS of millions of people.. Maybe Billions.
He wants to give FREE HEALTH CARE to all.

NO, I am not talking about Barack Obamma, I am talking about Jesus Christ of Bethlehem my friends lol

Anyway..
I want to say.. that as a producer, I am really into your idea and style ..
But I want to say from an engineer's perspective (and take this with a grain of salt because I treat music like I treat a sport)
But maybe dupe up them vocals, and make it MONO, and drop the volume very very low... low, like -36 RMS and then sidechain it to the effects or something dynamic, and then notch the lows around 500-600 and shelf the highs low -3 decibels.
Give the voice a presence that is there always, because I was struggling just a little to hear the vocals...

I can't say for sure.
PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT take that as criticism. I NEVER EVER think of things in Absolutes. Reality is what we make it.. I could probably smoke a cigarette and then think the original levels were perfect, --- but there-in lies the beauty of music lol

Anyway.
Awesome.
I like your style DJquickrick!

In all honesty, I appreciate your suggestions. :)It's all encouraging actually. I want to get it right! haha It's/I'm a work in progress. I hear your recordings and scratch my head like, where is he coming up with all that space? You're telling me exactly what I believe already. Once again, I have a few versions and haven't had the time to especially work on this one.. Learning as I go, plus having limited funds for upgrading for proper headphones and monitors, (keeping fingers and toes crossed for near future) doesn't help matters much! lol. Thanks man!!! :)

Thanks again man. lol I have actually started to try and redo some of it. I already have a few versions and this one up is actually not my favorite mix. It's hard to get the real sounds I want right now, (lack of monitors, what else!!) but will send you a better version if i finish that project. i mean when i finish haha. Thanks tho for reading the description. I know it's alot, and i should try to summarize. It definitely has a place as a unique track here as far as I have seen. That I like. :)

Agree with the other sentiments.
Humn... Just trying to think and maybe offer something of value?

You know what I was thinking might sound cool?
Is on that sweet rhodes piany, if you were to maybe add some effects and start just messing with it's voice digitally?

Very cool. Reminds me of the backrooms at clubs when you are sick of the happy hardcore and need a cool place to chill out.

REALLY like that kick pattern that .. it's weird man.. It fits VERY well in the driving trance pattern.

You play piano correct?
Anyhow if you ever come over to the deadlands I would love to hang.
I swear I am just inches from dropping everything and moving to Seattle lol

Thanks Abe! I'm gonna mess around with this some more. I think I'm gonna put in some more breaks with white noise and sweeps. Make it sound more like a house track. I'll see how that goes. It'd be fun to hang out some time. ;-)

Hey wassup!
Yeah, I checked out the pen work on youtube... that was damn impressive. I have seen a couple cats do that kinda thing, ... Definitely dug that.

I dug the blues progression turned major that you used.
Definitely started grooving a bit more once ya thru the other beat on top of the other (which I always think is a good idea mixing two different rythmic variation)

Kinda curious as to what you use?
I think there's some things about whatever you are using that perhaps you should look into?

I would recommend experimenting with automation if you haven't already?

It's one of those things.. that after you "learn" automating tracks... your tracks just start to bloom. (endless possibilities and reiterations)

I definitely think you got something goin' for you.
Keep it up!

PS total guess .. do you use FL?

Been too long.
Ahh, I have heard this sorta .. kinda....
Damn.
Epic.

God those vocals are soooo enigmatic.
Great job with layering the drums.. Epic.

Uhhhnmn
Some quick thoughts.. Huge amount of headroom.. I love that... I think.
More lows on a mixing side.. don't be shy! I mean.. I know the crap about the loudness wars and all that, but there's a LOT of headroom!
Also, at 16000 hertz there was complete loss of frequency.

With the levels you have now, if you bumped them evenly with +6 across the frequency bandwidth, and then made sure nothing clipped you would have a really perfect track.

I love it.

Enjoyed making beats with ya in the past and hope we can do it again some day. I appreciate you dloading and fav'n this man. That really means a lot to me. You have been a big inspiration in my music. Keep doing your thang and I gotta get some of your new loops soon. The drum ones are pretty dope. You're getting good on the drums!!! Accidentally found this.

Drums I ... feel weird about the compression?

Guitar is awesome.
Bass really struck me. I love your bass tone... I wonder how it would sound with a little bit of distortion??

This song is awesome. Kinda reminds me of a lazer in away.

What kinda monitors do you use? I would double check your mids just a little, but that's not a complaint, just letting you know how it sounded on my system.

Sick.
I love it. Great solo/outro!

I have Kenwood KX999's on the front channels and Kenwood LSK-704's on the rear channels, and I'm pushin' 'em with a Pioneer VSX-3900S receiver at around 300 watts per channel. All four speakers, BTW, are floor speakers (VERY large).

And my computer has 7.1 Surround Sound with Altec Lansing speakers which are hung on the walls.

on Into The Sunset (DEMO) by StephenPotter
Love the super fast delay intro thingy.
Great melody.
Want to steal it.

K.
Here's my thoughts.

Take whatever the lowest note is on the melody line -- the first one?
and then count down seven notes to start on the 5th of the key.

I feel ... that i need a really good wuuuuuuummmmmmmmmbbbbbbbbbhphphphphph sounding bass... and nice sidechain kick snare pattern.

Being that this is right around 150bpm... I wanted instant DnB.. but I like that stuff..
But also.. I really felt a huge rock drum, but very much still trance?
That might be interesting.
I will make a loop and post it in a few.

Anyway, I don't know anything about music and I am an idiot actually lol.

Definitely let me know how this progresses!

I feel like I failed you, but I tried following the basic rhythm.. which for some reason I had a really difficult time following.. But you really need to think..

Like what does this mean?
What does "Into the sunset" mean?

If it's just, "Oh, well I came up with a cool progression, and it felt like 'into the sunset'"
That's not enough I would hope for you?
Altho... now writing that... I realize I am never satisfied with anything I do lol.

I want you to tell me a story?
Can you think of anything from a .. creative side that... would musically show me what it really means to you "Into the sunset"?

Anyhow.. I came up with this
it's at 150 BPM, and I tried to match it with a quick breakdown into the next part I heard in my head...

The title was a spur of the moment one, no thought into it whatsoever, so of course the title probably doesn't fit too well, but I have got plans to do lyrics for this one, so presuming I make some, I'll re-name the track with a more appropriate title.
I will be making a deeper bass for the drop, maybe turn this track into a slow DNB track (I tried it at 160 and 175, both sounded a little wierd).
The drumloop sounds pretty nice, sounds more like what I was going for.
I tried lowering the first note from a G to a C, but it sounds a little disharmonic and out of place, so I'm gonna end up keeping that the same.
Glad that you took the time to write such an in-depth review though, so thanks!

What I love about your music is the rhythm.
What I love 2nd is the dialogue..

BRILLIANT USE of the drone. Omg I am stealing that.

I love it. I have always thought about ... well ... everything we talk about, and I absolutely agree with the visceral quality of the bagpipes and Irish work in general.

I coincide with the other comments that applaud the old and new being thrust together like flint.

Particularly what I enjoy a lot about this is the whole-tone drop and the groove of the under area of the mix.

I also particularly love the drums. haha... I always love your drum work. I need to steal your secrets.

Biggest complaint, and I only offer this to you humbly .. is that you are always on the verge of alienating the listener... Which for me? I absolutely cherish about you as a creator.
But I could see how... it would be lost upon people.
They wouldn't be able to feel it.

And you know what. Fuckthem lol. They don't deserve it.

I do want to state for the record this is violent in all the right ways.
It reminds me of the best of hardcore and deathmetal from certain parallels.

I'm most curious about this one now in that people seem to either really like it or really dislike it. I'm actually guessing the latter is mostly the case, especially seeing who's listened and said nothing. I have had a couple of comments elsewhere about how "I've dropped the ball" with this one - lol. Personally think that working with Salook is about the best thing I could do about now - accessibility AND sonic weirdness - it doesn't get better than that!

I do want to point, that ...how the drums work, I would be happy to send you like.. more interpretations?

I mean, as you have this.. man.. .you are like Eshar..
Awesome.

But like on them drums, I usually intend the 1st half of the drum to be looped?
So you have have the loop rolling and then on the end of a 4 by 4 beat (16 beats) you have the roll for the change?

on Nothing Can Be Done by Cybertooth
I think one of the reasons that this is such an effective piece of music, is because it has almost a peudo-industrial feel, but the human effort of the back of the wobble.

It almost feels like a total interpretation of a cyberspace meltdown.

One domino falls and then all the others fall over in return.

Humn...
Still, great piece, I actually searched this one out, because I wanted too.

and it still counfounds me that its so well liked
this is like one of my simpler idea for a tune

and HOLY CRAP
when did it get the 700+ plays and 50 downloads?

but yeah, ive been doing a lot of experimentation with industrial dubstep lately

that certianly helps though, but i think i kinda figured another thing out, with that also in consideration in addition. its kinda like what my uncle said about rappers, they the go real fast then they break it down, i think thats kinda what this does but with a wobble and drumline. you got the big bass drum in the background with some pitchwork on a subtle drumline, and then you speed it up with those glitch drums and swap between it and the wobble. or... something like that....

ill try that out

thanks for dropping by.... again

I would like to collab with you, but under the circumstance I get to be the dischord in your melody.

Highly recommended.
Good trance. How it should be.

eek except those off kicks.. on an artistic level I can understand why you would do this, as two people never see exactly "I to eye."
but still, I would have taken something "on-time" to facilitate the continuation of the "trance" but do it in a more degrading way..
As I felt you were trying to show "discordance" thru rhythm?
I would have liked just jolting rhythmic passages at that moment instead of just the off-time, and maybe perhaps used glitch/bit-rate drop/ and or distortion.
As we are all experiencing one rhythm... I think.
Entrancing.

Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the track! Thank you for the constructive criticism as well. It's not that I agree or disagree with you both ideas would definitely work but this is only the 3rd track I've ever made and my first trance track at that. I'm still learning how to use the program and very new to the electronic world of making music so I'm not sure how to use all of the plug ins/fx and tweaks yet. With a little more experience I'm sure I will improve. I would accept any pointers you have for me.

You should probably call it "Always Looking Back"

Much appreciation on all the little tings that make this click.
I think that is what I appreciated the most. Your focus on letting the reverb ride or hold. How the treble on the track was with-held and then brought back.
The almost "industrial" clockwork in the beat that gave it a very sweet sampled feel, when I could tell it was original.

I don't wanna be a dick, but the chord progression makes me think of too many other songs?... you know?...
Which.. is not to say that's a bad thing, but for my retarded ears
(and I have no taste in music man)
this felt kinda plastic.

Like it's the same II-IV (that's not the key, but just saying)

I guess I battle that a lot.

You throw some vocals and this commercial ready tho!

Came back for some more.

Yeah man, I like your style.

A lot. Very cool.

Again, please do not think I talk crap, I have just taken a lot of time to learn stuff,...
So I get yer a piano player deffo. But on them strings, it's really obvious they are synthish you know?... I mean.. ON one aesthetic that's awesome, but from a another perspective, I am like DAMN!!!!IMAGINE real strings you know?

So,.. I wanna ... put something towards you?

Picture "not" just them notes on a keyboard/midi roll, and a simple vst, but actually picture the stringed instrument in your hand right?
and so not ever single stroke is going to have the same velocity/oscilation/amp/attack/release... Now I heard some here and there, but greater focus...
Like "SOLO" a track and then listen to it, and fix EACH individual track? You know?

I would have loved more dimension on the strings? You can fake this with delay (I am a whorefordelay and strings) and also reverb. Use it on a global level, and you can create magic.

Final thoughts are... Dang man.. This is POWERFUL. Amazing breakdown... Brutal. And beautiful.

You should definitely be proud of this.

dIG YER ahem sorry for the caps.. um I dig yer panning a lot. very wide snare on them left.

I like UK grime/rap or whatever. I would ... actually like?
Yer vox, I would even compress them more man... I don't trust the effing meters in Pro-tools and FL and Reason and Ableton and whatever... I just want more juice out of those vocals.

Some way to look at this?

I would perhaps duplicate the vocal track, and then drop the volumes on both respectively both by -6/-10 decibels? Followin me?
Then after doin' that, thro a compressor on another and then work down from a 2:1 ratio and see if you can't squeeze some more "ooomph" from the vocals.

I would go on further about perhaps sidechaining an EQ and following the compressor off the beat and melody so you get this pulling breathing call and response.

With fruity loops,.. I don't know how to do this, but I know you would drop a send track, and then throw the sends out there, and then have a compressor referrence the send track from a narrow bandwidth .. probably like 300-1300 and then mix volume accordingly so your vox are the main focus, but there's always the music.. I like doing stuff like that.

Furthermore, I would perhaps consider doing some more reverb on the chorus, that's a effing nice chorus you got there.

Anyway, don't take this as crap talking, it's just stuff I would do.

I am faving this, you took on the form of Jesus and Fergie whilst I was listening.

on Digital Aboriginalism - Osmosis and the Veil by n0mad23
Yeah.

K.. my thoughts...

Throw the Sine "THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP" on every kick you got trance

But what seperates this track is the "trance"dental properties of human perception. We are absolutely one.

I find it odd, when someone wants to fight me because I flipped him off for him calling me a pussyfaggot. It's like ... well who are you referencing?
I could pull the whole Freudian concept of mother/father relationship, But lets take it further.

To quote "Waking Life", a very difficult poem/movie on life...

I've been thinking also about something you said.

- What's that?

Just about reincarnation and where all the new souls come from over time. Everybody always say that they've been the reincarnation...of Cleopatra or Alexander the Great. I always want to tell them they were probably some dumbfeuck like everybody else. I mean, it's impossible. Think about it? The world population has doubled in the past 10 years, right?
- So if you really believe in that ego thing of one eternal soul,
- Mm-hmm.
then you only have a 1 in 4 chance of your soul being over 150 years old. And for it to be over 120 years old, then it's only one out of six.

-So what are you saying then? Reincarnation doesn't exist... or that we're all young souls like where half of us are first-round humans?

No, no. What I'm trying to say is that somehow I believe...reincarnation is just a-- a poetic expression of what collective memory really is. There was this article by this biochemist that I read not long ago, and he was talking about how when a member of a species is born, it has a billion years of memory to draw on. And this is where we inherit our instincts.

-I like that. It's like there's, um, this whole telepathic thing going on that we’re all a part of, whether we’re conscious of it or not. That would explain why there's all these, you know? seemingly spontaneous, worldwide, innovative leaps in science, in the arts.
You know, like??? the same results poppin' up everywhere independent of each other. Some guy on a computer, he figures something out, and then almost simultaneously, a bunch of other people all over the world figured out the same thing.

- Mm-hmm.

They did this study. They isolated a group of people over time, and they monitored their abilities at crossword puzzles... in relation to the general population. And then they secretly gave them a day-old crossword, one that had already been answered by thousands of other people.

Their scores went up dramatically, like 20-50 percent....
So it's like once the answers are out there, you know?, people can pick up on 'em.

It's like we're all telepathically sharing our experiences.

Very cool.

Very cool.

I like the western stylization and plus one for the court on the choir.
Psudeo wobble on the bass-end.

I like that. integrate it all.

I was thinking ... either that is Ghu Zeong or was it a nylon.
(I don't know what either of those are lol)

At this point in the production, (if you are satisfied, and it's not going to have vocals thrown on it?)

I would consider just RIPPING into it and automating anything you could?

Solo-ing every track, and editing it, and then checking it, and then making more automations or edits, and just keep going.

Go as far as you can.
Go deep.
Go big.
Do a musical faceplant or handstand?

Faved!!!

ewww I likey yer little piany reverb magic!

Yes, How did you do them horns?
I think ... I was at a crossroads, because I really struggle with finding good samples and softsynths that can effectively pull off the "brass" sound.

Humn.. I may just rent them. I do that with instruments occasionally.

I actually did some studying into the theory of it all... It's based off some of the work Oliver Sachs and Sean Bennet did on the study of neurophsycology and music.
Things getting stuck in our heads.
Not surprisingly, most of the work is funded by advertisement stuffs...
Catchy indeed!
Nice and sugary and sweet!

Thanks Fam! Everything is done in Reason 4, and the horns are from refills for the NNXT. I love to use brass and other traditonal instruments because I tend to approach it more as a musician than a producer. I'm still waiting for you to rent a harp and lay down some samples and loops!
