on Whats Wrong With Me by Planetjazzbass
Hey planet jazz, how do you get such a great bass sound?

I know this is live... (right?)

I really like! I like the vocs and the indie feel.
It sounds like it peaks a bit.. but that adds to the indie feel.

lol..
MY perpective.
I write from two places in my gut.
1. Do I want to write a John Lennon song?
or
2. Do I want to write a Brian Wilson song?
(Something I learned from sloan.)

But this is the John Lennon type of song.

I know I am a snot nosed brat. But I respect my elders!

MUCH RESPECT.
Favoritized and Downloadinated.

Hey mate thanks for your kind review...There's a couple of areas that effect my bass tone...Firstly I play with my fingers pretty much exclusively so I can get good dynamics with my right hand 80% of your tone happens right here..I also play a lot over the bridge pick-up (on a Jazz Bass)this lets me get heaps of attack..also my pup mix is about 90% Bridge.10% Neck...I only use passive pup's with the treble cranked full on...My strings are (Fretted Bass)D'Addario XL Pro Steels .045-.100 (Fretless)Ernie Ball Custom Gauge 5 String Flatwound .045-.130.....I play the fretless straight through Native Instruments Guitar rig then a compressor in my DAW (Ableton Live)...With my Jazz I first go through an Old Zoom 506 Bass pedal(which I have tweaked to my own herbs and spices) then direct into my interface and a compressor in my DAW....all my playing is live...in this fashion though occasionally I might over lay some Harmonics...I've also hand wound my Jazz's pickups so their super fat and juicy..I've got enough wire I think for about 100 pickups..so I'm set for life!...sometimes I might tweak the tone a bit post production but not very often...hope this answers your question mate..thanks for your interest...cheers planet :)

I am gonna give you the Sweeney speach.

"What are you doing here!? Why aren't you touring with your own band, doing commercials and getting down in a club near me??"

Blows my mind... Great arrangement. Cool vibe.

Straight up... My kind of style. I would love to see ya live.

.. I know why you are here. So you can hang out with us.
I am new too, but I have been getting obsessed. lol....
I could be doing a lot of things and I always want to just come and check out some weird new style I haven't heard, or relive the old stuff I like from this site.

Especially in between 3 hour mix grinds, and my ears can't stand me anymore.. You know the feeling I am sure.

I am glad you are here bro. Collab with me... lmao..

Dude I was totally almost convinced it was real into like 16 seconds, the lead, something sounded...synthed...

BUT dude...WHO CARES. I think your playing totally just Brings LIFE out of something that A lot of us have a hard time pulling the life out of. (well.. I am just speaking for me...)

You gonna cross switch genres in the future? Collab with people?
Give me a high five?

I have to agree with Bchris... lol

ummm... GREAT PANNING by the way.
PedroCasillas
PedroCasillas replied Unknown
it'll be my spazzy right hand being unable to play the melody making it sound synthy and shite haha,

im very new to the whole sequencing thing, i only bought my new computer a month ago, but i'm sure open to trying new styles and collabs, dunno how to go about collabs but im sure i can learn :)

So, good work!

You have such a good sense of movement and progression in your tracks.

I always have to add something critical in my reviews soo don't take this the wrong way,.. I would like to hear some different "tone-feel" synths on here... A bell or something... meh

Totally unexpected, ahh man you totally nailed the name and noise!

Sweet music. Horror Music (new genre? lol)
I love this kind of stuff.

I like that I was continually surprised throughout this one.

ohh just a suggestion.. Scratching sounds as a shaker? Like substitute the sound of a shaker with scratching sounds?
That popped into my head jamming out to this

Favorited.

on Hypervenom by Scriptique
Why did you choose those drums?

Jesus.. I wish I could play guitar like that.

This is a favorite.
You got something here.

What are YOU unhappy about with the mix??

I think you had a smile on your face when you did this fer shure!!!
Love it.
Scriptique
Scriptique replied Unknown
Guitar? There's no guitar in this piece =S Did you mean the piano? Harpsichord? Saw wave?

I guess I'm unhappy with the drums lol... I tried to make it sound uber synthesized, but as vicious monkey said before it then lacked a bass sound. Hmm...

Thanks for the review and the fave alividlife! =)

on New Era by Boson Havoc by bosonHavoc
Odd times! coooool

I was chatting with DJ vex about CRAZY time signatures and drumb and bass.

I am hella-naive apparently.

Some pads over this please? completely not on the beat just pure fucking FRYING balls acid pads over this?

Would tie in nicely with the rhythm extravaganza.... Bad ass
This toook a lot of work.
I like it.

I also wrote an ode to Albert Hoffman.. it's not on the site tho...
bosonHavoc
bosonHavoc replied Unknown
thanks man!!
some pads would be totally sick thanks for the advice...

this actually didnt take much work lol
i sliced up a Hoffman speech and sliced up a sick drum loop from DeadCome (of looperman).
i set my pads up with the slices then played a synth with it.. it was all done in 1 take and in real time. this is a total performance track.

i like dropping ideas here.
it reminds me to go work on them and i get some assume advice for further development.

cheers!

Nice... I remember your satie rendition... Great stuff.

This is great.. Damn.. Really moves!

Could you divulge some info on what that effect was at 1:40?

I know this is my dumb question of the day... But what is live instrumentation and what is midi??
But.. I guess that means.. you rock and could have had me fooled.

The drums are obviously loops but you did a really cool job on those.

And that was a great outro.

I think I just gave you your 10000 listen too ;)
PsychotropicCircle

thank you
theres no effect at 1:40 only drums and bass and maybe the rest of Mr.E loop

You are a master at your work.

Incredibly mind bending.

Are you playing with a pick? I guess a more highs on the bass would be my prefrence...

Incredibly intricate and dreamy.. cool switch on the rhythms on all parts (the birds, the old dude playing the bass, the drums)..
There's a lot of gold in this one.
;)

I am gonna have to walk this one off..

WOW.
Planetjazzbass
Planetjazzbass replied Unknown
Hehe the only time I ever play with a pick is when I play Metal mate..and that doesn't happen very often (twice in living memory)..got the 5 string Fretless happening here mate..when you've got that fat B you gotta use it!..cheers Planet

Sorry.. Fiona , gotchya.. I got pissed.

Umm, awesome. Check out my song Loose Lips Sinking Ships,

I would never ask anyone to check out my stuff except... I think you would appreciate it after hearing this, ... and...

lol

How do you not clip while recording your sax?

Seriously, horns have sooo much midrange bass, how did you keep the integrity of your hi-end on this?

on The Sky Is Bleeding (Version 2) by DJ_JEZZA
Is there a way for you to move the limiting factor on the bass. Soo it changes the amount of decay, because if you could move the feel of that "Wah" "Wah" "Wah" but then "Wahhhhhh"...

If you could too, do it musically, so it is off beat, and draw the listener.

I hear Randy, Slap, and Bilbozo on this.. am I wrong?

Coooool BREAKDOWN! lol
You have a lot of cool stuff going on here, and that can be a blessing and curse. But I like it.
Dude, you are good.

on cruisin on my 22s by mouko
Earthquaaaake. Does suck the life out of your mids, but fuck it.

Damnit.. You are sick.. twisted ass synth player.

You are one of my favorite loopers by far (Cyryus, Mr.E, Sweeney, and me hehe)

I like the tempo change, really worked for me.

The right speaker tom fill fits.. But it's kinda ehh... But at the tempo change it sounded coool.. I would look at what you did there and try to make it consistent around the track.. Just honestly..

I wish I could listen to this in my car.
Favorite.. all of your style Favored.

I listened all the way thru!

I like that you are starting to integrate your vocals!

I don't want to upset you, but I think if you used more swagger in your vocals, more aggresive, and a little down in pitch, (Not Volume)..

Then again it totally sounded like you were coming from the early ninety's... Cool man!
