Howdy Evisma. I appreciate the kind comments, I do try my best to be an alright fella though I fail sometimes :)

Most people that have complained about EZ and Superior that I've come across really don't know how to use it after they've created their grooves. For instance, my newest song, "One and Only" is using Superior Drummer 2.0, as well as my other song as "Angel in Disguise." With proper (and minimal) compression and stereo widening, the drum kits sound quite realistic and natural - to the point that a professional drummer and close family friend that has been playing drums for various large venues across the U.S. was having a very difficult time deciding whether they were actual drums or simple MIDI grooves (they were the latter, though I've managed to get him to play using Superior Drummer as the VST for his electronic kit on my next album that I just started working on).

I hate to sound like an ad but I haven't come across better drum sampling than these the Superior line, particularly for the price. You're getting recordings from multi-million dollar studios across the world and having them delivered to you in a sub 1000$ package - which is already a steal in my books. Keep in mind that you may want at least 8GB RAM (16GB recommended imo) to be able to run your DAW smoothly as it consumes quite a lot of resources, should you decide to get it.

TLDR - Superior Drummer 2.0 is amazing if you know how to treat it. It's worth the money, despite some of the negative reviews you may have seen. I have tested it thoroughly and was quite, quite happy with the results.

All the best,

Brado

Ah, yes. The drums will get upgraded soon. I appreciate your opinion and will probably go that route.

Thanks again.

I really like how you balanced that lead at :45 against everything. It's subtle and yet doesn't get consumed by the 8-bit-style synth rhythm accompanying it. You'd be an awesome composer for video games in my opinion. Your music is different and yet very appealing. Great job.

Quite soothing song. The guitar was quite relaxing. This is something I'd definitely hear on the easy-listening radio station back home. Great job! Nice to see some deep-rooted jazz feels gracing the Featured section :)

The intro really spoke to me! I'm not one who listens to industrial but this was quite an entertaining listen! I like the changing patterns and BPM, really told a story using such strange effects. The highs were a bit harsh, as others have mentioned; this is my only critique of the song. The structure and the story, everything was done well. Great work! Thumbs on this one. You're pretty good at this stuff, if I may so myself.

Neither do I! Hehehe but I'm constantly told I make industrial, I refer to it as Abrasive.. Only so I can make the rules XD

Thank you, you'll be glad to hear there are more added now and, I hope, I've fixed the mix, it was quite lack lustre.

I really appreciate your generous comments :D

Wow, was that the Paulstretch effect Nomadobro mentioned long ago? The intro was quite epic. The guitars are on point as usual with your stuff, as is the bass. Is that bass layered with anything? It sounds wide so I just thought I'd ask.

The only thing I'd say could use a bit more punch are the drums. Maybe you could add a compressor and give it a bit more bark. The varying patterns of the kit are cool though, and while busy do not draw away from the little riffs you're doing with your guitar.

Thumbs up from me,

Brado

Greetings, Mr. Sanz.

We don't talk much. You seem like an alright fella. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Needs to be said sometimes. Positive music, helpful with forum topics, and great taste in headphones. All good stuff.

"was that the Paulstretch effect Nomadobro mentioned long ago?"

Yes, slowed 8x. Good old Nomad. Pretty neat program. It's at the end of Choon Bi, as well. There are several ways it processes, and they seem to be heavily layered like several delays are being used. I'm guessing that is to disguise the degradation and algorithms.

"Is that bass layered with anything? It sounds wide so I just thought I'd ask."

I get two separate performances with the bass that are close to identical, and pan them. If timing is off or I get frettbuzz, I cant use it. It wont sound like the single, wide entity that I want it to be. They have to be really together to work, and I despise quantizing. Takes actual rehearsal once I write a riff to get it smooth. I try not to record anything unless I'm comfortable playing it already.

"The only thing I'd say could use a bit more punch are the drums."

Drums are typically my downfall. Reading reviews, so many people bitch about EZ and Superior Drummer that I'm leery to get it. Also, I need to update my studio PC, DAW, and desk, so the software will have to wait till I'm happy with the other upgrades. I will, however, go into the DAW and add some compression to the drums, see how it sounds.

I appreciate the feedback. Quite constructive.

Take care.

The song itself was wonderfully composed. I can only imagine what you could do if you had the high-end VSTs. You told a story with the simplicity of two instruments and that in and of itself is an accomplishment. Great work!

Brado - I appreciate your appreciation a lot. I am hopelessly behind on the available sounds but have made a decent mix and basic musical values my priority even as I try to keep up. So I am very happy if you connected with this despite all. Thanks so much and by the by - there is an extended version out now! LOL. peace my friend.

Well that was a cool drum beat to start off, it had me hooked immediately. That bass is way compressed and it really adds a spicy flair to the track and accompanies the flute quite well. Thanks for gracing my ears with this groovy instrumental! Hoping you find the collab youre looking for!

It's weird, the bass really had nothing to do with the song, but ended up fitting nicely. The drums I didn't edit much just used the samples as they came.

on El Muerto by Neomorpheus
Dang, this sounds awesome and chunky as heck! I love it. It's just missing some awesome rock vocals, though being a singer I want to add vocals to everything :) The guitar tells a story all it's own. The shaker was a bit of a shock as it was too loud, but that is definitely an easy fix. Beautiful stuff, that bassline from SupaFreakShow really took this to a new level! This is by far the best rock song on LM I've heard to-date.

I'm only sorry I didn't come here SOONER. This is pro-level stuff.

Hats off to you, my good Neomorpheus!

Well, yes I agree that pretty much all songs are improved with vocals because of the added dimension and the meaning or message that is conveyed. I wish I was more brave or less particular about it and than I would maybe chance doing some. Haha, such is the plight with many of us here I think. I would welcome you, since you are a singer to add some if you like. Yes I also agree that SupaFreakShows bass really added some major kick to the track. I was really blown away by his gesture to do that, but it is a testament to the awesomeness of this community and its members. Looperman is damn kick ass, for lack of better words! Anyhow, thanks for your most excellent comments my friend, they mean a lot and I appreciate very much.

on Navigating The Neversphere by StaticNomad
Greetings, Nomadobro.

I am currently listening to this on my M-Audio BX8 studio monitors and your entry cellos sound HUGE. Wow. Is it electronic cello? Regardless, it sounds absolutely stellar. I am happy to say that this track is the first to grace my studio monitors and I'm quite pleased by how good it sounds on my speakers. 0:19 is quite warm, silky and has a very graceful dreamy atmosphere that those cellos provide; that pedal did wonders for it.

I also liked how you simply did single movements of the bow (for the most part) to create space. The drum beat is solid and keeps everything together nicely, while not standing out too much or pulling away from the other instruments, despite its prominence in the mix.

2:48 was quite ear-perking for me. I really like the sound of those keys when backed by that jazz-style beat. You have some really cool stuff going on in this segment. Your wailing cellos really breathe a different air into the song.

3:48 sounds like a jazzy bass is playing in the background; is that a synth or your cello doing the bassline? It's quite juicy, and I like juicy. The beat gets a little repetitive for me as this segment goes on, but that is only a minor issue for me.

7:30 - is that a guitar or cello? Haha, if it's a cello, you play it in a way that is quite similar to a guitar and that's pretty darn cool in my book if so.

Overall, a pleasant listen!

Good stuff. As always.

Best,

Brado

Yo, Bradobro.

I noticed that when you wrote this review you were writing loads of others around the same time. I never write any more than two, maximum three, a day. There just aren't enough Looperman tracks I either like or feel sufficiently moved to comment on.

Yes, it's a fairly powerful and distinctive intro.

"Is it electronic cello?"

Excuse me for potentially being pedantic but no, it's electric cello ie not an acoustic cello but still a real cello though it needs to go through an amp. So I put it through my guitar rig rather than using a mic, as you would with an acoustic cello.

I think electronic cello would be a synth/sample-based cello patch. I occasionally use some of those but they sound nothing like my played cello, which is new in my music in the last few months.

"0:19 is quite warm, silky"

Yes, that's where I layer probably about 4 bowed parts together to get that big, emotive rise that takes us neatly to the arrival of the bass and drums.

"single movements of the bow (for the most part) to create space."

Yes, that's because I'm still a total novice when it comes to bowing and don't really have sufficient control of it yet to groove doing alternate up and down bows. I wish I could.

"drum beat is solid and keeps everything together nicely"

I agree. Two loops that mesh together perfectly. Strong groove but doesn't get in the way of the more interesting stuff on top.

"2:48 was quite ear-perking for me."

Cool. I love to perk your ears.

"You have some really cool stuff going on in this segment"

I agree but I was strongly considering getting rid of it to cut down on the the running length. It was the last major section that I came up with.

"3:48 sounds like a jazzy bass is playing in the background"

That's the synth sub bass. It provides all basslines in the track apart from the first bassline around 0:20, which is cello going through my octave pedal so that it sounds like a proper bass.

"It's quite juicy, and I like juicy."

You've heard that exact same synth patch in many of my tracks. I know I shouldn't keep on using but it does such a good, solid unobtrusive job though I do sometimes also bring it to the fore and make it sound pretty badass.

"The beat gets a little repetitive for me as this segment goes on"

Sorry - I tried to vary that swing jazz groove in subtle ways but maybe I have failed. My drums tend to vary a lot so I'm trying to actually make them a bit simpler. You still hear much more drum variety in this track than in most people's music.

"7:30 - is that a guitar or cello?"

Definitely guitar. No way it could be cello. You can hear the sound of the guitar strings in there. I kept the guitar real minimal in this one though the playing in that section isn't great. Maybe I'll go back and try to improve it.

"a pleasant listen"

My pleasure to be able to offer you a little bit of pleasantry. It's why I do it...

What a fun song lol. I really like the groove. Your vocal fits it perfectly - for some reason, the low quality really helps the atmosphere. quite creative piece, as franko noted. Has a very assertive sound and quite catchy to me. 1:20 is my absolute favorite part. This is definitely a fun track. The drums are quite satisfying - I've become accustomed to hearing subpar drums from some producers in this genre and you passed the test! There are a few spots that are a bit empty to my ears but the song is well-produced. What do you use for your sounds? They're very crisp.

Thanks for leaving a cmment Brado! I always use a lot of time to make the drums as they are the backbone in a (dance) track. I am glad I passed that test :). I use the best vsts available. For this track I used serum and spire. Serum is for a lot of people the nr1 at the moment but for a novice I find spire easier to work with. Can you give me an example of a part where you feel is too little? I can maybe change that. When you hear a track more often you are getting used to the flow of it and dont see the things that can be changed or enhanced.

Ah, classic Spiv style :)

Has a sense of discord that I appreciated, your main lead was quite quite catchy. Do you manually program these patterns yourself? It's a fun track with a dark sense of loss and confusion behind it all. Great stuff, never cease to surprise me with your unique spin on music. I like the effected vocals you sprinkled around "What is wrong with the world?". What is the robotic voice saying at 2:58?

Good stuff, I appreciate the details in this one.

Spivkurl replied 22nd Jul 2016 - 9 years ago
Hey buddy, thanks for taking a listen and living through the long track! The main lead was started with a simple four note sequence, which was transformed with digital assistance into a more complex arpeggiation based around the intended mode, then this was manually manipulated to induce time shifting and a more complex note structure as the arrangement progressed. I'm glad that you can find some fun in there, which I'm thinking must be found in the fun I had creating it. The dark sense of loss and confusion is definitely paramount in almost every aspect of life at the moment. The robotic voice became sort of the response portion of a call and response, so the entire lyrical expression would be - "What is wrong with the world? It begins to crack." I'm happy that you find it detailed enough, I wish that you could have seen and witnessed the details which were fleeting and escaped me on that day. Thank you for your words!
