I agree with referencing everywhere. My best mixed track "Angel in Disguise" was referenced in a lot of different environments and that helped me work out the flaws in my mixing. I wasn't able to do that with this mix so the effects are obvious. :) thanks again for the thorough replies as they are much appreciated. Apologies for any mistakes, I'm using my phone at the moment.

I compared this one to mine, and I must say that yours is quite superior, particularly on low-quality sound systems. I compared on my phone and everything sits perfectly. I admire that. I must ask what you did to get the drum to sound so stable and thick?

Hey Brado,

That was one of the things I wanted people to realize, that when you are mixing a record you are not solely mixing it for your environment or for your monitoring system and that mix needs to translate well on everything.

Nowadays people listen more and more on earbuds, laptop speakers, portable speakers, phones, tablets etc. so it's really essential to get a balance that works on everything. How you do that? well...you listen, listen on multiple playback sources, use reference tracks etc., of course after a while experience kicks in and you basically know without crossreferencing if it sounds good everywhere. A good way to set balances (at least for me) is to monitor at really low volumes as that clearly evidentiates to me atleast what stands out and what doesn't.

As for the drums sound, I almost always add samples, even if they are really low in volume. I might add a kick sample that has more low end and one that has a nice midrange and some top and blend those with the original then buss those to an aux and eq them overall as one piece so basically I'm using the samples as EQ. The same goes for snare although I trigger just one sample which is really close tone wise to the original snare and use that to emphazise lows and highs and trigger a reverb, that way I get a clean reverb sound without all the spill. Sometimes if the drums are clean enough I'll get my samples from the actual tracks.

A lot of my sound comes from my EQ curves, I tend to boost a lot in the low end and the high end to get a really hyped EQ curve (the smiley face curve if you wish to call it that) and then compress and use another EQ to round off any edges.

The biggest secret is automation though. I use a lot of automation especially in the overheads and the toms and the room tracks. Recently I've started using parallel compression as well so during the chorus I'll unmute the paralllel compressed track for more punch...or I just duplicate the kick track for example and use the second track as a parallel track just for volume.

Sounds complicated but the secret is really in riding those faders and making everything exciting and dynamic.

Cheers!

Thanks a lot Danke for your friendly words.
Always good to read something nice about my voice :)
I think that you are right that working with Burt is always something special but right now he hasn't no time at all. And so i just can work a bit with some of his loops he posted here ..... But he told me that he will maybe do some solo stuff to this one when he got some more time.

stay tuned

Well, its been a long time since I've seen your lovely presence on LM! Regardless of the other critiques, I absolutely love the energy this song contains. It sounds very happy and the flute really adds that lovely element to it all. I'm assuming you're playing this by hand? The synths are slighty - *slightly* - out of time and while this is no big deal, it was something I noticed. The vocal is beautiful, the way it's spliced and harmonizes with itself is great!

Yes, it has been a long time. Sorry for not responding sooner. Just got back from 2 weeks in Scotland. Basically offline the whole time. Yes, played it all in by hand. Other than drum parts. I agree that there are some timing issues with how the various parts sync up, timing wise. I need to work on that more I guess. I do use quantization, but usually give it some flexibility so it is not robotic. I should experiment with strict quantization perhaps and see if that improves things.

Anyway, thanks for the constructive criticism. Need more of that.

Thank you for the comment! The original was mainly with an acoustic guitar and it was beautifully done. I recommend a listen. I did kind of interpeted the song a little differntly but I was hoping that it still can come across as a hit. Thank you again for the kind words, much appreciated.

Thanks Brado! I do have the processed and clean files as well as pictures with the settings used available for download so if you want them let me know. There really isn't much going on in terms of processing as effects like delay, reverb and harmonizers make all the hard work. :)

So to follow ur track .... i stole a track and because of that i am famous now ? Thats the most dumb thing i ever heard .... quick example .. the singer who made barbie girl she should be elvis now .... because she had a one song famous .... and when u say stole... just explain to me on what are your background .... how can a man steal a song and get registered online everywhere .... u know to be on itunes and shazam u must be tye 1st prs who did that ... and maybe if u sold the song because u dont have rights for the audio to someone who has rights for it and u choose to remove it because of a deal .... but anyway ur no ine just a hater that need some attention ..... so fuck offf and do something that makes u proud instead of hating other people things because ur so retarted and ignorant to do so ....

I have a real job that allows me to live my life comfortably and by honest work. Fame means nothing if it's all earned dishonestly - as you have done. State the "Facts" and yet can't seem to realize nor admit that you stole another person's work to help get you to where you are today. A movement has already been put in place to pull this track down from Looperman so don't be concerned about how popular it is :) It will eventually take the same route as your MixCloud and Soundcloud situation with this song :)

Haha, I make much more than that doing honest work at a real job. You can claim fame, but dishonest fame is not something to be proud of. There's a reason your Adele remix was pulled down on MixCloud and Soundcloud :) If your only concern is money, then so be it, but don't expect us to praise you for theft.

@cruthecus

You can tell this is his work, it's no way near as clean-sounding as the Adele remix he stole haha. It sounds much more amateur - overcompressed, muddled and very bassy.

yeah... I think so ... I can just send 1 picking gtr part 1 strum part gtr part, then 1 vocal track all separate .. which then you could put in your daw individually and summ dub, effect boost cut.. whatever ??? would that work ?? If so I could work on it tomorrow night ?? Maybe.. Im in Florida and Hurricane Mathew maybe heading towards us..lol.. so I might have to hurricane prep....

Wow, a Roland vs2480! I haven't seen those in a long time :) I really don't know how to explain it, it's fairly simple if you're working digitally but I'm not sure for the Roland! Do you send the Roland's recordings to a computer and then add effects to it before exporting?
KyleCarpetner
KyleCarpetner replied 4th Oct 2016 - 9 years ago
No.. I do everything in the roland.. tracking, effects, mastering.. etc. then after I master it I burn it to a CD-R then pop it in my computer and "rip It" then Down load it here and sound cloud.. to be honest.. this was the first time I ever even "ripped" a cd .. so..that gives you an Idea of how far I am behind ...lol.. But to give an Idea of the tracks.. I think I have 4 Seperate Gtr. Rythem Tracks, 2 Sep. Lead tracks and It hink I copied the vocal track or " Summed "? the vocal 6 times.. so 6 tracks... lagging 2 of the tracks behind trying a vocal thickening trick.. which I will prob drop out.. as it just gave it a hollow sound.. In my opinion.. I sent you a message thing .. to your profile thing here..After I had visited your page n seen you do acapella stuff.. wondering if you were just wanting basically a raw vocal track alone then a separate Download of the guitar tracks mixed but without effects ?? I havnt yet put it to the VS Planet guys yet.. Im sure they will know how to do it.. there pretty awesome at that stuff.. and very helpful to newbies like me..lol..

Your voice is wonderful. If you want, you can email me the guitar track and the vocal track, both raw and without any effects. I have a little bit of experience mixing this kind of music, I'd be happy to try my hand at this one. Let me know, my email is on my profile if you're interested.

Wow.. thanks..for the compliment and the offer.. I would love to do that ... However... Im not very well versed in all this computer and digital stuff.. So Bare with me and my ignorance.. .. This was recorded on a roland vs2480 not a computer DAW.. So I am not sure how I could send you the individual raw tracks ?? And This is my first recording on this vs2480 as well.. lol... Ive only recently got back into music after having left it behind in the early 90's. I.E. Ive got some catching up to do... so any direction on how to do it would be great.. in the mean time... I will check with my " VS Planet " planateers.. who have been extremely kind and helpful in this en devour..And see if they might be able to guide me in doing so... Soo.. if I can figure out how to do it.. I will and would love to do it.. thanks Kyle..

Did you expect heavy guitars and stuff? :))

Believe it or not I do work a lot with orchestra stuff as a matter of fact we are scoring an orchestral piece as we speak :D

I did a lot of stuff in chillout, symphonic, orchestra and movie scoes in the past. It's allways a pleasure.

There is a lot of bass on this track. Considering that it is consuming the vocals and just about everything else, I would suggest pulling it back a bit so that the track can breathe more. Overall, a good remix. The vocal was a hair too quiet for me but that is only my preference.

And DANG your voice is on PITCH! Haha!

My goodness, I am in awe. Im listening to this while working on homework. Favorited. Such a beautiful piece of work.
