I am never disappointed when I click play on your music. It's so different, almost quirky, and yet works so perfectly. I like your little vocal humming additions, they really add an entire new element to the song. I particularly like the rawness of your voice, this is a genre all it's own haha.

Great work, as always, my dear Spiv!

Hey Brado, thank you for taking a listen to this one! I'm getting the impression that it is far less acceptable to people than my usual track, and I take that as a good sign... a sign that I am breaking through barriers put up by things such as genre, "professionality," and machismo. The words meant a lot to me, and I wish I could have sang them better, but at the same time the words were especially relevant when the main takes were recorded, so it conveys the feelings well. The additional vocals were basically outtakes from attempts to do better, and yet they did add a lot. The vocals are actually not very raw overall, just audible. This is the first use of the new four channel gate/expander rack piece I picked up recently, and my first use of the Kustom dynamic microphone in quite some time. I suppose it could be considered a new or different genre, but it is securely influenced by early psychedelic rock such as Jefferson Airplane and The Doors, as well as some new wave stuff like New Order. In face the riff that shows up a couple times in the second half seems almost stolen from New Order, which was totally unintentional, and I didn't realize it until later. Totally appreciate you stopping by!

I think you got the radio sound down for sure. I like that the sax is panned a bit to the right, helps it to feel a bit larger, as if in a room. Great job, thanks for this one!

on Like this - ft Grotesk the subhuman by TeeGee1965
Wow, I was not expecting this. That bass tone is killer. I've never actually heard such a successful collaboration as this, especially between so many users. Definitely impressed all on its own.

This music is definitely unique. I really like the feel, has the vibes of chill but also grungy. The vocal sounds great, almost a bit too much delay but the words remain intelligible, which is good. I like it, almost abstract. Great stuff! The SFX sounds were a great addition and really added a nice, different feel to the track. Where did you get those sounds from?

Hey Brado, thanks for listening and commenting.

Yes, the bass tone is killer :) I think the secret to this collaboration is that we 3 have been working on quite a few songs already, so we get better at it. In addition, all of us are active at wikiloops.com, so we collaborate with othe people on weekly basis, that does let us hone our production skills. Try it out, you might like it ;) .

For the sound effects, I mainily use freesound.org , but if I am after something I will look at other places too, like soundbible. There are lots...

Anyway, thanks for listening and appreciate the comments :)

Wow, those guitars sound real! I'm definitely impressed. Did you use all Garageband plugins or have some 3rd party sounds? They sound very good for VSTs.

Haha really? Thanks! I'm always so worried they're sounding too fake. I just use the Garageband and Logic Pro 9 plugins and do a lot of layering and editing to get real-ish sounds.

Quite catchy, sounds a bit like early-2000s pop to me. Good stuff, man. I like your mixing, everything is nicely balanced, though maybe the vocals could use a different EQ pattern (rather than raising their volume) to help them cut through the mix a bit better. I think their volume is perfect as they stand now. You could experiment with boosting somewhere around 3-5kHz, or maybe even 2.5kHz. Just a small boost, around 1.5-3 dB.

Great track, I enjoyed the listen! :)

on A Fleeting Memoir Of My Youth by PapaNelson
Wow, built this bad boy in an hour? It's quite a fun track, has a ton of potential but does seem a bit empty as it stands currently! You could go to town with this one though! I do seriously like those drums in the next segment, they sound very big. Is there any bass in this track? I think that could really beef it up a lot and make it feel like a massive track. Maybe throw in some crispy synth pads in the back to help it feel wide. Just some suggestions! Great track to start off with though, the guitars do their job in keeping the track interesting.

on Nuance Is Futile by StaticNomad
Is this the new track you were referring to in your comment on my song? Dude, this track sounds AWESOME. Has your style written all over it, written with bullet holes and just plain ol' boss-ery (is that a word?). It's like, psychedelic metal meets acid lol. Idk what to compare it to really, it's just..Reminds me a bit of Metallica at some parts, if they were all your sons. Beautiful work here. Your cello additions really add a whole new element to the track itself and make it really stand out. I think my favorite part was the keys (?) that you played at 3:12. Ahhh, and that jazzy transition at 3:50, almost consumed by those wide pads (or stretched guitars?), was actually extremely clever. I really wish I could see your process of recording this stuff, it's really awesome to hear how you manipulate so many different sounds to make a track like this. I could definitely learn a thing or two. Ever thought about making a tutorial video? A "Sit In with Nomad" type of video haha. Just an idea, I'd love to watch it, really.

This song has no need of being louder. I think it's awesome as it stands. This is your style in a nutshell - taking something heavy and awesome and making it Nomadic and even more epic. Hats off to you!

Nuanced greetings.

Yes, this is the track I was referring to. Sometimes I listen to other people's tracks and they sound so much louder and clearer than mine and I feel just a little inadequate. I'm always not sure if my overall sound is loud, powerful and clear enough.

"plain ol' boss-ery"

No, not really a word. One I do like, though, is 'badassery'. The collective noun from 'badass'. Not a real word but makes great sense to me. I think there's quite a bit of it on display in this track.

"Reminds me a bit of Metallica at some parts"

Yes, maybe with the chugging riffage but you won't find Rhodes or synth arps in their music. I'd say they haven't done anything good in 20 years though their 80s and 90s stuff is still very good.

" the keys (?) that you played at 3:12"

Yes - Fender Rhodes, a very rarely used instrument in any heavy music. And with good reason, as it's much more of a jazz/funk/chillout type of sound. I add it for odd and unexpected flavour, something you know I love to do.

"that jazzy transition at 3:50"

Yes, those swing drums there are entirely just a transition. I really didn't want the track to start becoming jazz as I thought it would spoil the asskicking vibe but I did need a way to bridge between sections. That little drum groove seems to work nicely.

No, no timestretched guitars there, just a synth pad plus some cello underneath. No guitar anywhere in the track.

"Ever thought about making a tutorial video?"

I have not but it's an interesting suggestion as I may well have some unusual little techniques and/or music making philosophies. As I work alone and never see how others work, I wonder if I have developed some odd, little ways of doing things that might be of interest to others. I'm not really planning to do it but I'd probably call my tutorial video series something like Production Tipz n ##### with Tha Mothafuckin' Nomad.

Great to hear you'd be up for watching it. Maybe one day, if I can be bothered. I'm not the type of guy who's much into promoting himself.

A new cellout dance track coming next week.

Take care,

Wide stereo sound that I really love. I've been trying to make a video for you to show you what I do to get bigger vocals but it's not recording my audio!! :( I'm still trying though! Your music is getting better and better everytime, man. Keep at it, you're quickly becoming a serious contender on this site. Even though you don't think you're the best at singing, your voice works perfectly for this track. Fun-lovin', raw and relatable. Great job!

Hey Brado thanks for the compliments I really appreciate it. I am going to be teaching an audio engineering section in my communications class next school year so I thought I should probably buckle down and start learning some of the technical stuff so that my students can hopefully make some decent recordings. By the way I found this website that allows you to make video recordings with both system audio and microphone audio simultaneously for free. I tried it on my windows machine and worked great, here is the site:http://www.apowersoft.com/free-online-screen-recorder hopefully this will work because I am really looking forward to seeing your process. Anyway thanks again for checking out the track.

An oddly happy tune for someone who sounds like they end up sick of human interaction at the end of the day haha. Not bad man, a lot of your musical talent seems to flow during these times of drinking haha. You got it bottled somewhere in there (no pun intended :P)! Where did you get the vocals from? Is that you? It sounds really good. Seriously, kudos to you on this one! I really like how you chopped them up. Quite a catchy tune.

I like this one. A lot of the quality of the master really falls back to the quality of the mix. If the mix isn't perfect it'll affect the master. Any good-sounding song is really 90 percent mix, 10 percent master.

on The Warm Glow Of Yesterday by StaticNomad
Greetings, my celloist Static.

How are you liking your cello? I wish mine worked, but I've been to busy to take it to a shop as of late. Fairly disappointed that it came with the soundpost out of place OUT OF THE BOX. That was very frustrating for me. A rather salty first experience. Anyhoo, onwards to the song. I really like your slides. You managed to make the cello sound like a fretless bass and all the reverb really makes it glossy. Minimalist drum kit that I really like, as it lets your cello skills shine. Simple, yet beautiful. Thanks for this relaxing piece.

StaticNomad
StaticNomad replied 17th May 2016 - 10 years ago
Yo, BradoBro.

Sorry to hear of your cello problems. I had problems too, which is why I put off starting to really play it for about a year. Definitely not the same sort of problems as you're having but I seem to remember you saying that you weren't happy having bought something that was just too cheap.

Yes, the slides in this are nice and probably pop up all over the place, though I'm employing a bunch of other techniques as well. First time that I've actually bowed the top two strings. I find it kind of awkward to reach them (mine is 5 string though I think I'd prefer only 4) so only make simple chord shapes (5ths) and limit my movement so that I don't screw up too much.

"Minimalist drum kit that I really like"

Yes, it's mostly a hip hop drum kit, with rock kits taking over towards the end. It's quite busy at times but, yes, I've tried to make the drums a bit more background to allow all the cello activity to shine.

Glad to hear you found this cello track relaxing. I think so too.

Next cello track will probably be the opposite - cellometallo.

Good luck with your damaged cello.

Darknives
Darknives replied 19th May 2016 - 10 years ago
Yeah, I think so too. My problem with mainstream hiphop is the drums and bass, being so punchy, so full all the time. Stoner, like older hip-hop, is more soft, more details, more dynamics, it's not as in your face but I prefer it a lot, more natural, breaths and flows more.

I'm glad you like it man :)

Wow, such a lovely piece from you promenade :) Was the guitar also a patch? Sounds pretty good for a keyboard :P The drums sound huge and crispy which I particularly love. thank you for listening and nice comments Brado. It is much appreciated. Yes, beside 2 tracks/instances taken from others that I mentioned in the description I played everything directly on the keyboard on the first track. Guitar is also a Casio sound but with lots of virtual effects on it (reverb and time delay candy and such). The 2nd track was made entirely on Casio as well - it's just an earlier take of the same musical 'project'. I am really looking forward to experiment more with sounds and definitely to get more seriously into hardware in the future. Currently I have some other, classical keyboard music projects running quite surprisingly (in my 'real life') so it seems I will probably invest more into hardware synths later this year hopefully. So far I can't say I am anywhere even close to the point of using creatively the possibilities of the hardware I collected. At least this is how I actually think about my current musical condition - there is so much to explore in terms of going 'inward'.

I am really glad you enjoyed this little piece (or pieces) and some percussive work I did on the keyboard. I didn't quantize timing nor velocities of my playing this time.

Thanks for your very nice review.
